School is here, so it's time to get rolling right along with our lives. Work hard, study hard, and come to our meetings (First meeting 8/18 Make sure to come!!!!!), socials, and community service events! If you want help finding scholarships or studying groups in general, always remember that your fellow Key Clubbers are here for you in service, academics, and possibly even the future. That's about all I have to say.

Member of the Month August’s Member of the Month is Alison Tom! As an incoming senior, her favorite key club event in all of her years is the annual A Midsummer Night’s Dream & Crystal Ice Cream Fantasy at Fairytale Town because “it has such a fun atmosphere and I enjoy making crafts with the children—plus eating ice cream in between!” Hence, she enjoys eating when she is not doing community service as well as enjoys swimming. Alison likes the “continued dedication to help out the community and fundraise with service projects” about Key Club the most and likes volunteering because “the feeling after all the effort put into helping out is the greatest moment of the day.”

Whenever a task coordinator is in need of more help, Alison confidently goes and helps. If her task is finished, she isn’t afraid to ask again what is needed of her. Although her goofy nature entertains fellow volunteers, she remains focused on Key Club's most important purpose which is service to the community. Congratulations Alison! Your incredible work is well respected! -Lesley Wong

Past Events-HIGHLIGHT Kiwanis Family House Clean Up David Keet The Kiwanis Family House Clean Up (8/3) was an interesting experience; working together to wipe, broom, mop, pull weeds, and even cook our own lunch made such an unbreakable bond between us, the volunteers.

Eileen Eto

The Kiwanis Family House Clean Up was a unique event for me because rarely am I ever told to do things like vacuum or mop for service events. It was fun being able to help clean up and to find out about the noble things the Family House does. It was also pretty funny when we all tried to annihilate the weeds at the side of the family house because there were so many large ones! Past Events (continued) Brides Against Breast Cancer

At Brides Against Breast Cancer (7/27), Franklin Key Clubbers worked with Key Clubbers from Division 7 North to organize dresses, protect the racks with tarp, and load all materials used in the event into a truck. “We got to see all kinds of incredibly expensive wedding dresses and sort through them. I ended up drowning in a sea of white dresses and blue tarps several times! Overall, this was a really unique and fun experience and I'm happy I signed up for this service event." -Eileen Eto

Hot Summer Nights Concert Today (8/1) we helped kids in the obstacle course and lead them out of it. It was fun but exhausting. Overall I had a decent time at my first community service event and will definitely be signing up for more. -Irene Dich

Past Events (continued) Color Run Left to Right: Jennifer Tham and Pauline Tze unpackage KIND bars; Alison Tom shoots yellow cornstarch at runners. (Courtesy of Alison Tom)

The Color Run (8/2) was fabulous. My brother and I were two of the special three people who were assigned to help pass out KIND bars. We had fun opening up boxes of them with Alison Tom and Jennifer Tham until they had to leave to throw yellow cornstarch at people. (Lovely right?) Later, I found out that each of those boxes we opened was probably worth $100 each. Who knew energy bars could be so expensive! The perks of handing out food include hearing wonderfully punny phrases like, “Oh, you are

too KIND and "KIND bars from KIND people, how sweet!" However, the job wasn't any cleaner than the colored cornstarch throwers; I got nailed in the eye with white powder from behind! (Ouch). Luckily, I was carrying a bottle of water that the KIND lady gave me. By the end of the race, there were no KIND bars left. I'd say we did a pretty awesome job. Afterwards, we went to help Albert Le and the other people from Pleasant Grove hand out water bottles to people. It was a pretty fun day!!! -Pauline Tze

The Color Run was super fun. Even though I wasn't that stoked to get the color yellow in the beginning, it turned out to be amazing because we got to brighten up the runners' shirts by the time they got to us! Plus the corn starch felt like clouds. It was really cool to see people of all ages running together; it was definitely the Happiest 5k on the Planet! -Jennifer Tham
