As we stand midway through the term–at least, counting from the first day school started–it is the perfect time to reflect on the opportunities we've been offered and lessons we've learned through Key Club. Perhaps you have made some new friends or helped out at a marathon for the first time or even created a new family in Key Club consisting of people you depend on; memories like these are meant to be remembered, and I hope they will last you a lifetime, motivating you and your passion for service. If you haven't begun, do not fret, as there is still time to make more memories and give back to our community. One way you can start: Help out with our next recycling collection on Monday (11/17) after the meeting! We will also have an alumni from UC Davis come in to talk about Circle K experience. Also, district contest information is now available; please check out the club and/or member tabs under contests if you wish to participate or help out our club. If you have any questions, please ask me, or one of the other officers! In service and in friendship, Pauline Tze

Member of the Month Give a big monster applause to our November's Member of the Month, Joshua Diaz! He's been in key club for 3 years and he enjoys reading, loom-knitting, thinking, and sometimes playing video games. He enjoyed the Santa's Gift of Service at Sac State because "the first thing we did was get into groups and start a bonding activity. We played a couple of games then went back inside to participate in stations where we made certain crafts for charities. The crafts were fun and I got to meet some new people." Throughout these years, Key Club has helped him get involved, meet new people, and form new friendships. Joshua finds that community service is important because "I believe it is important to contribute to something meaningful. I believe it is important to help make the world a better place, as cliche as it sounds. I also think there are a lot of issues that can be resolved if people come together to service; if people worked together to solve the world's problem." Thank you for having a monstrous enthusiasm for Key Club. You constantly attend district events, division events, school events, service events. You are a true key Clubber who plays an active role, who steps out of his comfort zone to accomplish various tasks, and who serve his community with spirit. Congratulations Joshua! Your dedication is both admired and appreciated! -Lesley Wong

Key Club Week: Connect the Ks

Kiwanis

Eileen Eto | Treasurer

iwanis is a close group of adults dedicated to making a difference in this world. They provide K temporary housing for injured or sick patients, plant trees, clean, make dolls for children, and so much more! Not only do they do all of these amazing tasks, but they also assist Key Clubbers, Circle K members, and K-Kids in being better leaders as well as being our chaperones for many of the social events we attend. Mr. Ortega would be our beloved Kiwanis advisor.
So if you're already head over heels in love with Key Club and are sobbing over the fact that one day you'll graduate and will no longer be in Key Club, don't fret! First of all, once you're a Key Clubber, you're always a Key Clubber. And second of all, you can still help your community and have a family support system in college as well as beyond thanks to Circle K and Kiwanis!

“I am a Kiwanian (Greater Sac Kiwanis) who has had the privilege of working with Key Clubs and Circle

K, and I can tell you that all the branches of Kiwanis, including K Kids, Builders Club, and Aktion Club, have their own unique charms. What they all have in common is that they attract individuals who are passionate about building better communities and making a difference in the lives they touch.

Connect the Ks Circle K

Eileen Eto | Treasurer

All of you may have heard what Circle K is, the “college version of Key Club.” However, Circle K is so much more than that. Ryan Tom, president of UC Davis Circle K describes it as, “finding your home away from home. In college, you're faced with many new and different challenges and you'll be surprised how much your parents provide for you...Circle K is that group of people that are always there for you, and will do things unconditionally.” Nick Stringfellow, beloved alumni, and freshmen at UCLA excitedly exclaimed that “Circle K is such a blast! After coming from Key Club, I expected Circle K to be a lot different and harder to fit in to, but I was totally wrong. Everyone's really inviting, there's a lot more freedom for going to events, and there's so many ways you can get involved! I've only been in CKI for a couple weeks, and I already love it with the bottom of my heart.” As you can clearly see from the collages of the colleges, Circle K isn't just a “college Key Club” but a support system and a beloved guide to many of the students.

Like Andrew said, Circle K definitely changes that "go to school, then go back and do whatever you do" mindset. It's a great outlet to connect with people within your college, whether they were in Key Club or not! Andrew has a lot more experience than I do, but, as always, I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have! Once a Key Clubber, always a Key Clubber, and I'm here to support you all even if I'm 400 miles away in college!

-Nick Stringfellow

How did you FEEL about Fall Rally?

“ My Fall Rally experience was again, amazing. I was very happy that our

division made it to the final round in the rally and I'm very grateful for all Key Clubbers from each division coming out. Although I didn't get to go on all the rides, I enjoyed most of my day hanging out with friends and I look forward to going next year to enjoy the next and last Fall Rally. -Sunny Hsu

Capitol Apocalypse 5k Zombie Run experience at Capitol Apocalypse was truly fun and exciting. First and “My foremost, the director and all of the supervisors were very friendly and welcoming. Just watching the runners try to escape the clutches of the gruesome zombies made me want to run in this event next year. Runners had to go through obstacle courses throughout the race, and at some of those obstacle courses were soldiers who were ready to fight the zombies to help runners pass. The event was well-organized and put together by great people. I can't wait to attend the Capital Apocalypse next year. -Caitlin Tran
