First off, thank you for everyone who participated in the Homecoming Parade for Key Club; I hope we can make this a tradition at Franklin Key Club as the perfect practice for Fall Rally North. Just a reminder, Trick-or-treat for UNICEF boxes are in, so be sure to pick one up at our meetings. Remember that every $1.80 you raise will promote Project Eliminate and pay for a set of vaccines that will save a mother and all her babies from neonatal tetanus. Additionally, Division T-shirts are in, so please pay at the concession stand and turn in your receipt to one of the officers; you can pick up your T-shirt after school on Friday or after the meeting on Monday. Fall Rally participants: be prepared for a weekend of cheering and fun! If you take any photos or want to share your experiences to the club, please be sure to email them to me or one of the officers. Recycling: the next recycling collection is on Monday next week, be sure to help out after the meeting! In service and in friendship, Pauline Tze

Member of the Month Who could the October’s Member of the Month be? …Lawrence Lee! He is a junior who has been a part of Key Club since his freshmen year. He enjoys witnessing the enthusiasm and spirit of fellow Key Clubbers while volunteering. As a diligent member of Key Club, he has attended so many events that he finds it difficult to remember which ones he liked. Although, Lawrence does admit that he enjoys “helping with school fundraisers [because] they always have interesting things going on.” He has no official hobbies but has an affinity for photography. To Lawrence, volunteering in the community is important because “it exposes me to the workings of the real world. I get a better understanding of how community events are possible. The experience also teaches me responsibilities and how to interact with adults.” Lawrence's sense of responsibility, dedication, and interest in giving back to the community have greatly contributed to Key Club. Over the past couple years, his attendance and assistance at many community service events have contributed to the overall success of those events. Although he may seem reserved, that does not hinder his ability to serve and his care for this club.

Keep at that excellent dedication. Thank you for doing all that you have done! -Lesley Wong

Past Events-HIGHLIGHT Grassroots Soccer Tournament Fundraiser

This was an event to support the Grassroots Soccer Foundation, and participants at this event helped to kick HIV and AIDs out of Africa [through their registration fee and donations]. The [number of] people who showed up was great, and although it was a hot day, everything was fun under the sun. Thank you to those of you who showed up and thank you to our sponsors: Raley's, Costco, ECA, Cosenza family, Starbucks, Leatherby's, BJ's, and Safeway. -Cindy Lam

Past Events (continued) Elk Elk Grove Grove Giant Giant Pumpkin Festival

The Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival was a great experience! I was able to interact with the friendly people of our community and help out the staff that were busy managing this event. I had a lot of fun running a game booth for the festival. In the game, kids would "catch" the pumpkins and receive prizes based off of the numbers on the bottom of the pumpkins. If available, I would definitely volunteer again next year for the Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival! -Emily Jang

Discodonut 5K At the Discodonut 5K, volunteers helped set up the race, passed out donuts, and cheered on runners.
