Key Club 411 Key Club International is filled with many terms, it is sometimes hard to keep them straight! I would like to use these pages to go over some Key ones. District Project: The NJ District has once again chosen The Eliminate Project which immunizes mothers and their future children from MNT. Major Emphasis: Major Emphasis is a Key Club International focus that is based on the idea of helping children. Its slogan is “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” Advocacy Focus: Advocacy is speaking on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. The New Jersey District Board has chosen hunger in the United States as its advocacy focus for this service year. This campaign aims to conduct service projects rather than fundraising. Service Partners: Or preferred charities, our service partners are Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, UNICEF, and March of Dimes. Clubs are recommended to volunteer and fundraise for these charities.

DCON: District Convention (DCON) is where about 600 Key Clubbers from NJ gather at Ocean Place Resort in Long Branch NJ to celebrate a successful service year with many awards and to kick off an even better service year with contests, the election of the new district executive board and more! This event is also full of sessions and informational workshops! Did I mention it is right on the beach? It is the must go to event of the year. DCM: DCMs are Divisional Council Meetings. At these, Lieutenant Governors meet with their clubs to update them about divisional and district events, and other important information. It is open to all members in the division however each club in the division must be represented by at least one member. OTC: Or Officer Training Conference is when the Lieutenant Governor trains officers in the division. RTC: Regional Training Conferences are biannual training conferences with workshops and fun that are held twice in the spring and 3 times in the fall. In order to be distinguished, officers must attend at least one. CMRF: Club Monthly Report Forms is a report form due the 10th of each month that is used to see how clubs are doing. They are very important. Fall Rally: Fall Rally is the largest gathering of Key Clubbers to motivate them for a great service year at Six Flags that includes a day at Six Flags after the session!

Words From The District Project Committee Salutations Key Clubbers! This year, the New Jersey District has once again chosen the Eliminate Project as the District Project! The Eliminate Project is a global effort to eradicate maternal and neonatal tetanus, a life-threatening disease that takes the life of one baby every 9 minutes, from this world. A baby that is infected with tetanus only lives between 3 and 7 days, dying after suffering excruciating pain and sensitivity to light and touch. In 2010, Kiwanis International teamed up with the Eliminate Project to help in the effort to rid the world of tetanus. With 25 countries remaining still afflicted with the disease, and one more year left in the Eliminate Project campaign, Kiwanis and Key Club International are making their best efforts to help the Project reach its goal. This year, the New Jersey District of Key Club has set a fundraising goal of: $109,325.15, representing the following: • 10: For 2010, the year Kiwanis and the Eliminate Project joined forces to eradicate tetanus. • 9: For the one baby that dies of tetanus every 9 minutes. • 3: For the series of 3 vaccinations needed to immunize a mother and her future babies. • 25: For the 25 countries that remain affected by MNT • 15: For 2015, the year the Eliminate Project campaign ends. The only way to achieve this goal is with the help of all of you! Do what you can to benefit the Eliminate Project. Throw some of your biggest events yet, like sports tournaments, pie-eating contests, or Penny Wars; even small projects, like bake sales and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF are all great ways to benefit the Eliminate Project. Every donation matters! To find more information on fundraising ideas, visit keyclub.org. Happy fundraising!

RTC Recap

Spring RTCs proved to be a success at Roxbury High School on May 4th and Cedar Creek High School on May 10th. Each day was filled with an informative opening session presented by the district board about Eliminate, Advocacy along with other district events. We then went to sessions each with a little Greek twist ranging from How To Get Citizens To Your Toga Party to Bringing In The Drachmas. The day concluded with a raffle where Southern’s Kailey Bertelson and Christine Suddeth each came home with a Key Club prize. Overall, Spring RTCs were full of fun and learning for all! Missed it? Fear not! The Fall South RTC will be on September 13th and the Central Fall RTC will be on September 14th!
