Welcome

Hello New Jersey District! I hope you had an awesome month! The first almost two months have been very exciting for the New Jersey District. We have held our first board meeting and Spring RTCs. These events are recapped in this newsletter. Also, clubs across our district have been busy changing the world through service! One of my biggest goals throughout this year is to bridge the gap between club and district. I hope to do this through my blog, newsletter, surveys, and by attending as many club and divisional events as I can. Please don’t ever hesitate to invite me to an event your club may be having. I would love to try and attend! If you would like to learn more about my goals, please see my letter of introduction on the district website. Let me know if you have any questions and happy reading! Yours in Caring and Service,

Josie Suddeth 2015-2016 New Jersey District Governor

RTCs

Spring RTCs were a great success! Everyone “Pumped Up the Volume of Service! There were two RTCs this spring: one at Morris County School of Technology on May 9th and one at Southern Regional High School on May 16th. Attendees reinvigorated their passions for service by learning more about Key Club through the general session and workshops. Attendees became more prepared for their upcoming positions, made friends, and of course had fun! All attendees were very happy that they attended Morris County School of Technology and Southern Regional were both outstanding host clubs. The NJ District thanks you for your passion and hardwork. Missed Spring RTCs? Have no fear! There will be 3 in the fall. The locations are subject to change but as of now the Fall RTC locations are as follows: September 12th: West Deptford High School September 13th: Phillipsburg High School September 19th: Millburn High School

Governor’s Project

I am also pleased to announce that my Governor’ s Project this year is K-Family Relations and KFamily Building. I think this is especially important since we are in Kiwanis’ 100th year and Key Club’ s 90th year. The bond between K-Family clubs is so important. When you support each other, each club grows and changes more lives for the better. Also, by giving community members the opportunity to be involved with the K-Family, you give someone the opportunity to change the world. You would be part of the reason a club does all the good it does. How cool is that? I will be doing more throughout the year to promote this. I encourage you all to get more involved with your nearby K-Family clubs and build new clubs!

Governor’s Blog

As I promised in my campaign, I will be posting a monthly blog on the district website about pertinent Key Club updates! Topics can range from Key Club International, to NJ District, to divisional happenings. I will be posting a lot of important Key Club updates on this blog so please keep an eye out for it! I will post the blog about mid-month every month. Your LTG will always notify your club when I make a new post. There are two posts as of now. I hope to make this blog another way to keep everyone in the loop with what is going on in the Key Club World! Link: http://www.njkeyclub.org/news/blog/

April Board Recap

From April 18th-19th, the New Jersey District Board of Trustees held its first official district board meeting. We set in motion a lot of plans for the upcoming year. The minutes of the meeting will be posted on the district website and will include what was discussed in great detail. Here are the highlights. The District Project Steering, International Programs, District Programs, Public Relations, Regional Training Conferences, Fall Rally Programs and Fall Rally Registration Committees all met. All committees put plans in motion to ensure a successful service year! As many of you know, the district project this year is the New Jersey Federation of Food Banks. We discussed ways to further promote the project, Hunger Awareness Week and Students Change Hunger. We also decided on fundraising and service hour goals. The fundraising goal is $90, 077.85. The 900 is for the 900,00 NJ residents who rely on foodbanks. The 77 is for the 7.7 million times a year someone is fed by a foodbank. The 8 is for the 1 in 8 people in New Jersey who struggle with hunger. The service hour goal is 18,630 hours. The 18 is for the 1 in 8 people in New Jersey who struggle with hunger. The 630 is for the 630,00 children living in impoverished households.

The District Advocacy Focus this year is Autism. Throughout the year, the district will inform you of specific events the district is promoting, but we always encourage you to help out with local autism events and your school’s autism programs. Right now we are publicizing Go the Distance for Autism: a biking event in Paramus, New Jersey that is fundraising for several autism programs. The Fall Rally theme this year will be “Oh the Service You’ll Do”. We will get to kick off the start of a new school year with a great session with a Seuss twist. All Key Clubbers are encouraged to dress up like their favorite Seuss characters.

Governor’s Spotlight

Lieutenant Governor of Division 18 Josh Mariscal has been doing a great job since he took office! He has already had 3 club visits, trained officers, held a DCM, targeted a club, sent lots of information to his clubs and he was the first to hand in the April LTGMRF! He never hesitates to talk to me about his questions. His genuine love of Key Club is felt by all who meet him.
