There are fresh winds blowing through the corridors of Seartec, the proud distributors of Sharp. Some would add that these are gale force winds......
The name was derived from : Sear (part of the Seardel Family name), T for Toys (the long standing relationship with Prima Toys), E for Electronics and C for Company.
Tasked with the repositioning and reenergising of Seartec and indeed the Sharp Brand, it's been an action packed six months and all things are pointing to dynamic new strides.
When asked what was the defining moment in the history of Seartec, Tim Atkinson (outgoing CEO) and who has been with the company for over 30 years replied, “Now. This is the positive and defining moment in our history!
The history of any establishment is integral in shaping its future. It was Sharp that brought you the first clutch pencil, the sharp carousel microwave, sponsored the Man United Team and Seartec has enjoyed a long association with Sharp. The Seartec name was established in August 1987. Before that it was known as Sharp Electronic SA PTY LTD from 1973 and the only non-Sharp subsidiary in the world authorised to use its name.

OFFICE AND HOME PRINTING AT THE LOCAL SPAR? That’s the great initiative from the Spar Group in providing all their dealers with this one-stop-shop opportunity within their stores country wide. Seartec, proud distributors of Sharp, were recently invited to exhibit at the annual Spar Western Cape Expo at the CTICC. It was a great opportunity for the team at Seartec to show off the ‘Spar Print Centre’ concept that they have been working on together with the Spar Group.
The joint venture looks to add a new dimension to the Spar retail product offering. Already a strong community orientated group and by adding the print centre concept, will further strengthen the Spar’s important relationships with local communities! The next few months should be a busy and exciting time as we look to build on this with the www.spar.co.za as well as begin the rollout of the print centre concept. – Andre Coetzer
RUGBY & BUSINESS The Rugby Business Network set the background for another successful event in Cape Town, South Africa. The venue was the Toad & Josephine, Mathew Pearce was the MC for the evening and kicked off the formal events by introducing Nic Haralambous, the techie turned entrepreneur who kept the audience captivated with the tale of his rags to riches background in tech entrepreneurialism, as well the story of his online sock company, Nic Socks. When the time came – the crowd were treated to three guests of exceptional quality, Crusader, All Black and Leicester Tiger player, and now Waratah backline coach, Daryl Gibson. Wallaby and Waratah Nathan Grey and then South Africa’s highly decorated and international refereeing record holder, Jonathan Kaplan.
The accents and antics of Matt were a highlight, as he guided the players through a question and answer session that revealed tons about their ability, unquestioned love of the game and passion for spreading the word. A donation was presented to Jonathan’s chosen charity “Blow the Whistle” campaign. SHARP Middle East FZE and Africa doubled the collection and R5000 was donated to this foundation. Alongside is a pic of the PE RBN attendees, who were all treated to a Q&A with Luke Watson. Luke was engaging and enthusiastic, a star guest! Check out: www.therugbybusinessnetwork.com

OVERSTRAND GREETINGS FROM Hello All Taking on a new executive role at Seartec has certainly provided the challenge and commitment that goes with a new job! Delighted to see that the Overstrand has certainly not slowed down from the amazing energy and buzz that continues to abound …the tourists and holiday makers just can’t get enough of this magnificent region! I’ve followed and shared your amazing ventures on social media and from the response from mates across the globe, it’s clear that this is no secret destination! Chatting together with Janet Marshall on Whale FM, has allowed us the opportunity to touch on your exciting events over the past few weeks….the music, the food, the wine, the markets, the penguin waddle….you’ve certainly got it all! I enjoyed some recent cricket and golf with the Proteas… even pulled in to bat against them at the Cricket Festival (after my warm up at the Stanford Sixes) and had the pleasure of seeing them play in the recent Test! A big thanks to Councillor Ben Solomons and his
wife for attending one of the Test Days with the Seartec team. That was most appreciated by all! There have been a number of business trips to Dubai and with an upcoming one to Japan in May, I take great delight in promoting our special region. Colleagues and friends know that this is my destination of choice! Congratulations to Lorrin Jarvis who won the Team Talk prize to the magnificent Grootbos with a visit to Abagold. Next up is a prize kindly offered by Nell’s B&B, Marine Dynamics, Sir Robert Stanford Wines and Abagold. Thanks for the extreme generosity in these prizes… Possibly the best news of all, my wife Debbie and I, became proud parents to baby Johnny Skinstad who joins Anna, Tom and Charley to make up our very special family. Look out for us in the village over the holidays! – BOB SKINSTAD

HARNESSING THE POWER OF NETWORKS AUTHORS: RICHARD KOCH & GREG LOCKWOOD
“
The search for individual expression is genuine enough, but it takes place within groups and it is spread by networks. And, in many ways, networks are the antithesis of the lone individual. Even when they are spontaneous and anarchic in origin, networks favour big concentrations and bind people together in ways that no individual intended or can control.
