Dear Opinion I was dancing and chatting with that man that I just met. Things seemed to go smoothly and fun until he went quiet. I suspected that he was IM-ing someone else until that girl came standing in front of us IM-ing me and basically asking me to step aside because she wanted to dance with the same man. Confused, I asked the man if that girl was really waiting for a dance. The answer was yes! How rude of him to invite a girl to dance when he is already dancing with one! Dear Mr Opinion, We were in business with someone who was very talented and he got offended because a guy sent a request to his wife but didn’t send one to him. This caused him to loose out of a great business deal because of his attitude and taking out what happen on us when we had nothing to do with it. It also left us with having to find someone to replace him. How do we correct this problem without getting involved or dragged into drama with him and the other guy? Humans love leashes (and I don’t mean BDSM or leashing pets—we love to restrain ourselves). Why else, in a virtual world, would we happily confine ourselves to the bondage of mortgages, restrictive clothing, race and cultural norms, like family and marriage? There are those, of course, who reject these “leashes.” These cybernetic revolutionaries share the belief that virtual worlds represent the opportunity for true freedom.

So, who are these people? Well, I can tell you that most don’t think of themselves as rebels, or even “people” for that matter. The truly unleashed among us are a group of enlightened individuals who identify themselves as furries. Generally speaking, furries are human-shaped avatars with unmistakable animal-like characteristics. For example, a wolf furry will stand upright on two legs as a human, but will have the fur, paws, and head of a wolf (in other words, a werewolf). Most of us are at least acquainted with the idea of furry-people, but the popular misconception is that the furry lifestyle is a sexual eccentricity (either people want to have sex as animals, or people want to have sex 'with' animals). When asked, Bunny Kahanamoku, a rabbit with long platinum blonde hair, rabbit ears, and an incredibly voluptuous female human form explained, “Some people think being Furry is based on bestiality, but for most [furries] it isn't the desire to want to have sex with an animal, but channelling their own
animalistic persona in Furry form...It's a way of getting in touch with the animalistic part of our nature that most of us try to deny.” I am all for women getting in touch with their more animalistic tendencies, but not all furries are revolutionaries, some don fur for the fun of it. Daphneavalon Resident, a full time furry, did not start out that way. Three years ago, while still in human form, she first became attracted to the furry lifestyle as a fun new way of expressing her personal style. Apparently, fur, ears, and tails offer more creative styling options.
“I really love when I walk into human sims and get IMs from people with curiosity,” she said. Like many human avatars, Daphneavalon offers escort services in her profile. She proudly services human and furry men alike, which can’t be bad for business. She encourages anyone who is bored or looking for a new way to express themselves to consider going furry, even for a day. “SL was made [for people] to try new things, new fantasies. If one doesn’t risk trying something new, one will never know how good it feels.”
According to Daphneavalon, the main advantage of being furry is the opportunity for uniqueness. She said “The advantage [of being a furry], I think, is the appearance. [We] move lovely and are different from the typical…unique.” Daphneavalon, a pink Tabby cat who is indeed lovely, enjoys the reactions she gets from humans and furries alike.

“We came -we saw- and everybody had fun,” Xi Alpha Phi co-founder Angelous Amante said while describing an Aug. 24 event that raised L$25,000 for charity. The lines between real life and Second Life have been constantly blurred since the program’s inception, and the paintball competition held by Xi Alpha Phi showed no exception. Amante organized the event and pledged all proceeds to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. The Baltimore-based nonprofit organization holds a mission of continuing to make a coordinated national approach to the relatively new disease, according to the group’s website. Over the course of the paintball event, Amante estimated that the competition saw about 100 people and were able to donate L$25,000 to SCDAA, an equivalent of $100. “I’m very happy with those numbers,” Amante said. He continued, “We have other events in the future and if we could do the same thing, I would
do a real life back flip off my balcony.” The winner of the paintball competition received a star studded championship-wrestling-style belt covered in diamonds. Ruby de Rosemont, Coeditor of Flavah Magazine, took home the coveted prize by out-shooting her opponents in group competition and last man standing events. “I’ve never had that much fun in my Second Life,” Rosemont said. She joked, “Angel forced me to sit down and to stop killing,” after showing her dominance over the ‘battlefield.’ Looking to the future, Xi Alpha Phi will be hosting a greek games competition in September along with its sister sorority. As for the paintball event, Amante said, “This was our first event and we will do it again in the future. We will either do it semi-annually or quarterly. We don’t want to do it too much but we want to keep people excited about it and keep raising money for charity.”

The Serious Business of Fun Spotlight on Princess Zelmanov, Owner of Seductive Allure Estates Princess Zelmanov, a successful SL real estate investor and developer, reigns over 22 adultthemed sims, collectively known as Seductive Allure Estates. However, after meeting her, I quickly got the impression that this property princess is much more than a landlord, she is a hedonist, who is serious about the business of fun. When I first arrived at Seductive Allure Estates, I was approached by a petite blonde, wearing a crown of flowers in her hair, and little else elsewhere. To my surprise and extreme delight, she was the property tycoon I was sent to interview. Flavah 18

Friendly and talkative (and nearly naked), it was easy to like Princess Zelmanov, who goes by Zellie. After sharing pleasantries, she insisted on showing me a tour of the estate via speedboat— an incredible way to start an interview.

In the early days of SL, she created and ran a popular club, Romantic Starlight Ballroom, which quickly became an SL hotspot, even though it never earned a profit.

Ironically, it is Zellie’s commitment to fun and friendship that has led to her incredible success in real estate. When asked to explain her rapid success, she explained, “I have invested literally tens of thousands to create a fun land with the most amenities and high quality animations anywhere, that also is affordable for anyone. But the real key [to my success] is staying humble and friendly. I personally respond to most customer issues and I am here every day. This is my RL job and I LOVE what I do” Flavah 20
At the end of our interview, Princess Zelmanov had a few words of wisdom for anyone seeking to duplicate her success in real estate or any SL business. She said, “Don’t mislead people and don’t ever become a big shot. Second Life will throw you plenty of challenges, but if you are creative and humble, you will succeed.”

and I had "Kya" in my IM telling me to talk to her sister "the one who added me". I was confused and didn't even know where it was heading to, all I could say was "what do I tell her?" lol, Kya said just say Hi Duh !!!! What else, so I did. Foxx Pawpad Aka Maya George. Yes Kya's sister was Foxx, I told her may be we can just hangout somewhere and talk, simple and crisp, didn't even know what else to say. She was pretty quick to say yes to it. She ended up teleporting me to her land. We started with dancing and talking about several things. But this time second life had something different to offer, I ended up spending 10 hours with her. Sleep took the best out of me but it was couple of hours and then I was back again. Relationship grew and I was delving into it, though I had moments where I wanted to call it quits as my logic was haunting me but with time we came to an agreement of living one day at a time and live it till the time we can. Its been about two years that we have been together and we have come out of many misunderstandings, manipulations and arguments
which had less to do with us and more to do with other people. Since the day I have met Maya, there has not been a single day where we have not tried to do something productive because that's what she is here for and my intent was quite the same. Maya has always been very talented and creative in second life, Landscaping, Photography and Building has been her main passion. Steadily I learnt a lot from her and researched a lot for us to grow together in what we do now. Our love leads us to a way where we become strengths when the other is down and try our best to overcome every negativity around. We do tend to argue as we are worst when we compete and that competitive attitude gets to us against each other as well. However we have never let it sink down under our skin to have anything negative. We do have our romantic encounters too, I lack expression and she hates that about me but with time I have learnt to let her know in my own way how much I care for her and love her. This virtual world has taught me a lot and I give all credit to maya, she has been patient with me and has given me every reason for me love her everyday and I hope it will go on forever. 23 Flavah

Beauty in the eye of the beholder But how did the beholder learn what beauty is? Second life thrones us as ruler of our own world where we create the commandments of what is and is not acceptable. Second life is where anyone can become the person they have always wanted to be. The perfect version of what they consider is beautiful. Some of us take the abnormal and flaunt its beauty. Although who decides what normal beauty is‌second life is a free zone where no one person can dictate what is beautiful because in second life we have no normality of beauty. Yet there is a large trend of the slim and tall with dazzling long hair and the muscular and handsome. But there is a different standard of beauty in each world that second life is composed of. We have the beauty of elves, fairies, furries, urban hoods, steampunk, vampires and so many

more. Then we have the few who enjoy a bit out the “norm�, those who have the look that make you alt and zoom on the avatar and stare. A lot of avatars are completely opposite of the person behind it. Different races, hair colors, genders and even species. Because sometimes in SL we need to finally be able to portray who we feel we truly are. Who we have ever wanted to be in real life is created or maybe a character in a story we infatuated over, some of us even make our avatars into exact replicas. These we imagine into our world, these characters we are able to make possible because in second life we are the Gods to mold our avatars in our image. Who dictates beauty in second life? We do.

I came to Second Life nearly five years ago. Originally I did the normal things we all do to acquiesce to the game. Then on August 24, 2011 my brother passed of a massive heart attack. Our lives are filled with experiences but its how we react that define our characters. I chose to make my Brother’s death mean something more. I started making Gospel music. Then as I found it to be more Flavah 30
of a passion, I brought it into SL. Along with it, I began my clothing lines. The first one was Dryft Kingz for my bike/car club. The second is KingDom Wear. It is a Clothing Line for men and women that allows one to represent the God we serve in a practical way. Soon, we will be offering clothing for children as well. I am happy to say that my brother’s life has had an
enlightening effect on me and I choose to live my life in a way that exemplifies Christian values. One thing our store emphasizes is value. We see it as a cornerstone of our future success. KingDom Wear outfits come ‘all-in-one’ and with an iPod filled with music from my RL album. Each comes with a HUD system that allows you to change on a whim. We feel that
it keeps our Line upscale while simultaneously adding to our customers experience. As KingDom Wear has grown, I’ve kept an ear for good advice that helped grow my business. One of the first things I did was recruiting Models and use them as the store’s personal ‘Street Team’ or guerrilla marketing unit. Another thing that many have requested was an In-World store.
Since I’ve already seen some growth from our Marketplace endeavours, opening a store In-World seemed the next logical step. Yet one thing I have learned is any moves toward progress will always present unique challenges. Being InWorld provides me a greater opportunity for exposure, but that exposure also opens avenues for criticism.
"...maybe you need to sell or market to churches they may be your only buyers.." or "... maybe you should take God out you might sell more that way..." but my faith will not allow that. I serve a God that has is ever present in my life and He will always be a part of KingDom Wear. To drop into the vernacular, ‘God will be in it.
