Desperately Seeking Matthew Matthew Ludwinski Hunted in New Film Matthew Ludwinski’s latest film, “Seek,” is about a mistake many of us make every day when we allow our hopeful view of the future to cloud our vision of the real beauty that is right before our very eyes. Directed by first-time filmmaker Eric Henry, the film centers on a group of twenty-something urbanites all longing for approval. Whether it’s by the guy they find attractive, the gay in-crowd, or the industry they work in, all of the characters strive for the proverbial higher branch, failing to recognize the fruit that lies within their reach. Matthew Ludwinski plays Jordan, the dreamboat underwear model that main character Evan thinks he desires. But like the old adage says, “be careful what you wish for.” We caught up with the sexy actor in Hollywood to talk about his latest role, making the transition from modeling to acting, and why he can’t seem to keep his pants on in films. Mark Dawson: Where are you doing at this very moment? Matthew Ludwinski: I’m having breakfast. What are you eating? An egg on a sesame bagel, a banana and a coffee with vanilla flavored International Delight. How has your diet changed from the days when you were a model? Well, I’m currently trying to get a little bigger so

I drink a lot of protein shakes and I allow myself to eat starch. Many of your roles require you to keep in shape. I read you’re playing a Naked Man in the short film, “Little Consequences.” For that film I’m actually wearing a yellow jock strap. What is it with you and nudity? You do it often in film. Not just film. I’ve done it on stage. I performed off-Broadway in Naked Boys Singing. I don’t know why I get cast in so many nude roles. I think it’s because I’ve done a couple of gay genre films and if you are the love interest in a gay genre film, there is a pretty good chance you will be required to show some skin. Are you comfortable with nudity? I don’t have any negative feelings about nudity if it serves the story. And I don’t mind playing the sexy guy role while I’m in that category. It’s fun! Has showing skin hurt or helped your career? I’m not sure. I’m an actor. I take the parts I’m given. But for the record, I’ve done a number of projects with all of my clothes on. (Laughs) You actually don’t take off your clothes in “Seek.” Well, I play an underwear model, so I do end up removing most of my clothes. MATTHEW LUDWINSKI continues on page19 guymagtube

MATTHEW LUDWINSKI continued from page 16 And you look good doing it! What is about Jordan that so enraptures Evan? Jordan is one of those people who sweeps in and out of your life and you are left wondering “what the hell happened?” I think for Evan, Jordan represents something he is missing or wants in life. How did you get the role in Seek? The director, Eric Henry, saw me in a film I starred in, “Going Down in La La Land.” He offered me the part in “Seek” without even auditioning. I loved the script so I was very flattered and excited to accept. When you first read the script, did you think you were perfect for the role of Jordan? I did. Not that Jordan and I are completely alike, but I knew that as an actor it would be fun to play this guy who was kind of a bad-ass. He does what he wants without regard to consequences or other people. I got to be the cocky guy which was fun because that’s not usually me in real life. Also, from my modeling days, I know what it’s like to be the sex symbol other people fantasize over without really knowing anything about you. That happens to Jordan too. The film is about the torment of lost love. Have you ever been tormented by love? Oh, yes. I’m a sensitive guy and my emotions are a bottomless swirling fire pit. I find at regular intervals in my life, I am deeply tormented by love. Have you ever made the mistake of letting a dream love slip through your fingers? Maybe. How can I know? I guess I’ll know at the end of my life, when I’m looking back. When you see something you like, do you go for it or do you wait for love to come to you? A little of both. I find I have more success when I make the first move and just go for it. But then, I’m not going to work too hard for someone who is not interested. I do like to get pursued a little. Are you cool with guys coming up to you for your number? If I like them. Are you single right now? I’m seeing someone.
What are you working on next? A new web series for Logo that takes place in Montreal. It’s called Poutine Out. It’s due out in the spring.
What is it that you Seek in life right now? Peace, stability, happiness, friends, career. Basically, everything and at the same time.
Will you be keeping your clothes on? Nope.
Are you on your way to achieving your desires? I have to at least think I am on my way to achieving it. It would be pretty horrible if I didn’t.
Matthew Ludwinski stars in Seek, releasing soon to theatres. Visit SeekTheFilm.com for more information.

Sarah Brightman: Space Phantom oIn the 1980s Sarah Brightman was a gay household name. With her legendary performance as Christine Daae in The Phantom of the Opera (reportedly a role written exclusively for her), Brightman won the hearts of gay men everywhere trying to have their own romantic entanglements with the phantom or, more healthily, Raoul. Not only was she a superstar performer, but she was also married to the superstar composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber. Like most famous men, he cheated on her, and they have since divorced. Her career lives on, though, and she is considered the bestselling soprano of all time. Her fame has increased to such a degree that even the earth isn’t enough for her—she is currently preparing to journey to outer space in 2015. Come check her out before the universe beckons. 8 p.m. BB&T Center. 1 Panther Pkwy, Sunrise, 33323.
Vampire Ball of Florida 2013 o Even if our cultural vampire fascination is waning, Halloween time still calls for a resurrection of those seductive, sexy, and ultimately violent figures. This yearly event is a must for the fetishist set and anyone fascinated by vampire archetype: whether in

America’s Got Talent Live o The best thing about watching America’s Got Talent Live is that you don’t have to fast-forward through any of the annoying judges’ comments. Instead, you get to be dazzled by the array of acts, sans pressure. All of the favorites from the last season will be there, including this year’s winner Kenichi Ebini. The first dancer to ever win the competition, the 39 year-old Japanese performance artist relishes in creating work that combines acting, storytelling, and a number of different dance styles. Some of the more popular other performers, including the acrobatic Kristeff Brothers, will be performing as well. The show starts at 8 p.m. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. 701 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, 33401.

Gospel Brunch oAlmost two decades ago, the allure and fun of gospel music entered the general public’s consciousness with Whoopi Goldberg’s starring role in “Sister Act.” With happy-go-lucky nuns ready to break some rules, let loose, and clap their hands in unison, the movie was a smash and a favorite of choir-ready gay boys everywhere. The sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, was maybe a bit more forgettable (it’s name, though, who could forget that?). Every Sunday drag queen restaurant/entertainment venue Lips hosts its popular Gospel Brunch in which the Sisters of Sequin perform and indulge in some not very holy worship. Hosted by Nicolette, the show includes a worthy brunch drink special of $18.50 for unlimited champagne or mimosa with order of an entrée. It is recommended to call (954-5670987) and make a reservation in advance. Lips. 1421 E Oakland Park Blvd, Oakland Park, 33334.

of bookstores. Dame Edna began as a drab Australian housewife but has evolved into a superstar, megastar, and gigistar. Luckily, South Florida’s own Dame Edna takes some time off from her various performances to entertain gay bar patrons. At Alibi, Michael L. Walters performs as Dame Edna – not quite Barry Humpries, but close enough. Drink specials include 2-4-1 cocktails and $2.50 gold margaritas. Shows start at 8, 9, and 10 p.m. Alibi. 2266 Wilton Dr, Wilton Manors, 33305.

Johnny’s Twink Factory Tuesdays o Some factories produce household items intended for pragmatic uses. Whether it be cleaning supplies, gadgets, or even food products, the idea of factory connotes hard labor with minimal down time and loads of stress. Car manufacturing factories in Detroit helped contribute to both the ascent and then descent of the city. Here in South Florida we have a totally different factory producing a household item intended for mass consumption: the twink. What other area of the world produces such a large amount of twinks in such mass quantities? Fortunately for us, Johnny’s continues our legacy of creating the most durable twinks with their Twink Factory Tuesdays. With no cover and $5 “twinkie” shots, the night is sure to be useful. 4 p.m. Johnny’s Fort Lauderdale. 1116 W Broward Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, 33312.

Portugal, The Man o This independent American rock band has achieved noteworthy success in the last year. Their new album, collaborated with Danger Mouse, entitled Evil Friends was released to wide acclaim on June 4th. This album is a darker detour for the psychedelic rock bank, complete with mournful lyrics like “I’m a creepy in a t-shirt and jeans. I don’t f#$%ing care.” Vocalist John Courley’s angelic voice emits a sense of optimism, though, and other songs veer into positivity. Opening for the band is Crystal Fighters. 8 p.m. Revolution Live. 100 SW 3rd Ave, Fort Lauderdale, 33312.

TRAVEL
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee More Than Just Dollywood by
Rick Karlin
o
In Pigeon Forge, Tennessee’s version of Orlando (thanks to Dollywood), there are a number of options for lodging, including cabins, luxury hotels, inexpensive motels and a wide variety of B&B choices. There is even a gay-owned facility in the nearby city of Gatlinburg (check out gay-gatlinburg.com). Gatlinburg’s about the only gay thing you’ll find in the area (but with all the entertainers Dollywood employees, I bet you can ferret something out). Pigeon Forge and the surrounding area do offer some special events, which are a big tourist draw. Among those are the 9th Annual Gatlinburg Fine Arts Festival (Oct. 4 – 6) and the Great Smoky Christmas Arts & Crafts Show (December 2 – 8), which brings together a multitude of artists, musicians, and craftsmen and admission is free. For more information on the Gatlinburg Fine Arts Festival, check out gfaf.net. Even without those special events, the area offers hundreds of ways to keep you busy. Among some of my favorites are; Bluff Mountain Adventures, which offers guided ATV trail rides on 6,000 acres of mountain trails. Country Tonite Theatre features large-scale production numbers with singers, dancers, musicians and comics. The 1,500-seat multi-million dollar theatre is equipped with state-of the art sound and lighting and often features well-known country performers. The Elvis Museum is almost as campy as Dolly herself. It houses over 15,000 square feet of all guymag.net
Elvis, including his last limousine and his world famous $250,000.00 ring. A visit to the gift shop is a must. Record-A-Song Recording Studios allows you to go karaoke one better by recording your favorite song to any of thousands of background tracks. You can be a recording star for less than $20! Smoky Mountain Ziplines has some of the best zipline and canopy tours in the area. Wildwater rafting, tubing and kayak rentals offer a chance for outdoor adventures as weather permits. For information on these and other attractions, go to mypigeonforge.com Of course, my main reason for going is to experience the change of seasons and the best place to do that is Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Whether you delight in a strenuous hike to the crest of a mountain or prefer to sit quietly and watch the sunset, Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers a myriad of activities for you to enjoy. Try biking through Cades Cove on a misty summer morning, or choose from over 800 miles of trails ranging from quiet walkways to multi-day backpacking treks through the backcountry. The hardest part may be choosing which auto tour, trail, waterfall, overlook, or which historic area to explore. The park also has hundreds of miles of horse trails and four rental stables provide mounts and guides. For more information about the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, call 1-800-3652267 or go to nps.gov/grsm.

FITNESS
A Mighty Pump…Without The Iron! by Tom
Bonanti
o
Sometimes a guy just needs a good muscle pump to bolster his confidence by the pool or at a party. At times the last place you want to go after work is a crowded noisy gym, but your muscles need a workout. You can still get pumped and primed and it only takes a few short minutes a day. It’s called isometrics and it goes all the way back to good old Charles Atlas himself! Isometrics is a sure fire, dynamite way to get those muscles pumped without clanking or pumping an ounce of iron. Isometric exercise is defined as muscles working against a static resistance (a wall, a tree, or even another muscle group), expending energy but not moving. Muscle strength and power increase as muscles contract. The great thing about isometrics is that it’s resistance training without weights. All you need is that great body of yours because opposing muscle groups do the work. Perform each exercise slowly and intently. Build tension gradually and do only 3 reps of each exercise at a time. Isometrics can give you a great ass without doing a single lunge. Simply stand with hands behind head, and clench your butt cheeks together as tightly as possible. Hold for a few seconds, then slowly release tension. You can do these bi and tri exercises anywhere, even in line waiting for a cocktail! First, pump those biceps. Stand with the left arm bent at a 90-degree angle, hand fisted, and the right hand grasping the left wrist. As the left arm pushes up, the right hand pulls down. Hold for a few seconds, then slowly release tension and switch arm positions to work the right bicep. To work triceps, stand with the left arm bent, hand fisted. Grasp the left wrist with the right hand and push up with the right arm as the left arm presses down. Hold for a few seconds, then slowly release tension as you swap arm positions to work the right triceps. For boulder shoulders, stand by an immovable object like a wall or a tree. Step forward and lean on the surface with arms straight. Push against the surface with your hands keeping your arms straight for a few seconds, then slowly release tension. Pump your pectorals by standing with palms against each other in front of the chest, elbows

out. Press palms together with equal force. Hold for a few seconds then slowly release tension. Attack your back by sitting on the ground with your left leg straight out. Raise and bend the right leg and grasp the flexed right foot with both hands. Pull the foot back as it presses outward. Hold for a few seconds, then slowly release tension and change leg positions to work the other side. Combine these isometrics with push-ups, crunches, lunges and chin-ups and you’ll have a mighty pump in no time! For more ways to get pumped, contact trainertomb@aol.com or call Tom at 954-557-1119. Set up a free intake today at Pumpn’Inc. 1271 NE 9th Ave. Fort Lauderdale, Fl.
