Johnny’s, South Florida’s First All-Male Dancer’s Bar Turns 31

Johnny’s Fort Lauderdale is celebrating anniversary number 31 this weekend. We can think of no other all gay entertainment facility that can claim that number of years in operation. South Florida’s first all-male dancer’s bar has been under the direction of entrepreneur Sean David who recently brought a new branch of Johnny’s to Miami. The 31st Anniversary party begins tonight (Thursday) and will run through the entire weekend. At the same time that Johnny’s Fort Lauderdale celebrates number 31, longtime Johnny’s employee, the loveable Uncle Al , celebrates his 25 year connection with the club. Johnny’s originally opened with a beer and wine license only as Johnny’s Village Inn in 1980 and was located in what is now the Riverwalk section of downtown Fort Lauderdale right behind what was then Backstreet/Ft. Lauderdale, the sister establishment of the famed Backstreet/Atlanta. Due to the redevelopment of the area and the creation of Riverwalk in the mid-1990s, then owner Johnny Moses moved Johnny’s to its current location, then known as the Glow Lounge, obtained a full-liquor license and shortened the establishment’s name. To celebrate this milestone, Johnny’s will be featuring free drinks and hors d’oeuvres from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., $3 Chambord Vodka cocktails, 60 house dancers performing nightly starting at 6 p.m. and free admission if you bring a copy of their ad from Mark Magazine or Florida Agenda.

By Charles Rockafort Manhunt.net, the world’s leading website for men to meet men, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this month with a club tour hitting twenty North American cities. Presented by Dick Dorm, the MANHUNT X TOUR 2011 tour will feature leading circuit DJs, door prizes and some of the biggest names in porn. The party hits Key West at Bourbon Street Pub on September 23 with everyone’s favorite twink, Brent Corrigan.

a broad plate chest, massive sturdy arms and a seriously sexy furrowed brow. He’s the kind of guy you don’t settle for. He’s the ideal!

Why is Manhunt still the #1 spot online to hook up? Because it separates the men from the boys and a boy can always find the man he wants!

What can your South Florida fans expect when you host the Manhunt X Tour? I don’t need gimmicks and tricks to get people interested in what I’ve got goin’ on. I’m just looking forward to socializing with everyone, having a drink or two, signing autographs, taking pictures and handing out giveaways. Being genuine and approachable got me where I am today.

What has been your favorite Manhunt experience? Are you really asking me to broadcast my sexual exploits where everyone can read them? Oh wait. Never mind. How many more years of hooking up do you have left? I have many more years of hooking up - with my husband. Oh no, you’re taken? It’s true what they say: all the good ones are taken or straight. My Papi is Italian, French and Mexican with

How do you keep the romance fresh? One of our favorite things to do is find a quiet spot in the park in the dead of night. It’s naughty and the thrill is unparalleled! I say, if you’re gonna be arrested for anything it might as well be indecent exposure.

Do you have a special birthday wish for Manhunt? Just keep on keepin’ on. Manhunt connects the hottest guys online so they can get together and do what the universe intended. Cheers to many more years, Manhunt! For more information on the MANHUNT X TOUR 2011, visit http://manhuntroadtrip.com/manhuntx/.

The suit led to a landmark decision that held school officials accountable for not stopping anti-gay bullying. Captain Rick Wierzbicki, of the Sheriff’s Office Hate Crimes and Anti-Bias Task Force; and Andrew L. Rosenkranz, Florida Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League, will also be in attendance. CABARLESQUE FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY

Friday, October 14 at 8 p.m. The Little Haiti Cultural Center Theater (212 NE 59th Terrace, Miami) will host a one-night-only performance of “Cabarlesque,” the original production from the Miami performing arts troupe Blending Cultures, a non-profit live performance company created in 2006 to entertain and enlighten audiences to the vibrancy of hybridized cultural traditions. “’Cabarlesque’ is a fusion of two different art forms--cabaret and burlesque,” said Blending Cultures president Nelson Polanco. “It’s a story of the need for self expression told through vignettes from musicals and movies such as ‘Chicago,’ ‘Cabaret,’ ‘Fosse,’ ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ and ‘The Pajama Game.’” Singer/songwriter Polanco, who also stars in the production, co-created it with Miami singer/ actress Amy Alvarado.”We created this show very much as a tribute to Bob Fosse’s legacy of brilliant choreography,” said Alvarado. “The show is sexy and a little bit naughty, but mainly playful and tongue-in-cheek.” Alvarado and Polanco will sing the majority of the numbers, although guest artists such as Lennis Sabatino are scheduled to appear. Tickets are $15.00 in advance at ticketweb.com or 1-866-468-7630, or $20.00 at the door. For more information, contact Nelson Polanco at 954695-1163, or blendingcultures@yahoo.com.

fitness By Tom Bonanti

Free Weights Rule! But machines aren’t so bad either… Even serious fitness enthusiasts and body builders need some variety in their training sessions in order to prevent boredom and guarantee solid results. Supersets (working two opposing muscle groups at the same time) and compound sets (using two or three exercises for the same muscle group until fatigue) are great ways to insure a burn. Intersperse heavy training days with lighter training days now and then to prevent burnout. Experiment with different exercise routines and if you like them add them to your regular workouts. Experienced trainers and athletes alike, however, agree that free weights--namely dumbbells and barbell--are the best and most versatile way to train!

o

Here are a few reasons why free weights should be the basis of everyone’s resistance training regime no matter what: When you workout with dumbbells and barbells, it’s easier to take your joints through their full range of motion as you work out the muscles. Standing, with your feet spread apart at shoulder width, back straight and head looking straight ahead is the preferred stance when lifting weights.

This way you are more effective in developing the smaller synergistic (helping) muscles and stabilizer muscles when you are targeting a muscle group as you perform your rep. Barbells and dumbbells are more versatile and convenient. You can easily grab two 35 pound dumbbells and do three sets of curls for biceps and then move a few inches down the rack and do triceps kickbacks with the 40 pound weights. Just make sure you rack your weights when you’re finished! Power is improved more efficiently and to a greater extent through the use of free weights. Other crucial aspects of fitness including lifting for size, improving flexibility, reducing body fat and muscle toning are all achieved more efficiently through the use of few weights. There are a couple of disadvantages to free weights. Dumbbells and barbells are sometimes clunky and have to be maintained and stored (if you pump up in your apartment or garage). Most importantly, in certain exercises, it is a little more difficult to derive maximum isolation of a muscle or muscle group. Here are a few good reasons to use machines: Some machines, like the pec deck for the pectoralis major, are more efficient in isolating the muscle group. For group use, some machines are better in terms of space utilization. A case in point: one jaunt around the Universal machine and you can practically get a full body workout. Plain and simple, machines are more convenient to use, and therefore faster workouts are possible. Less time is wasted changing plates and waiting for your spotter to get his butt out of the locker room. The disadvantages of machines are many. Most machines are very large to store, extremely pricey and tend to isolate only one muscle or muscle group at a time. The majority of these muscle building contraptions are built to serve an average sized person. Very short or very tall people find it almost impossible to use many of the machines currently on the market. Finally, the space-age appearance of many machines lulls users into believing that high technology equals maximum efficiency in achieving fitness goals, a sentiment that is definitely not true. Nothing beats hard work and good old fashioned sweat! Tom Bonanti is a certified personal trainer and owner of Punp’n Inc Gym at 1271 NE 9th Ave, Fort Lauderdale. Thinking about selling?

Here is what two of our clients had to say about their experience:

All realtors are not created equal! In our experience Rick is the best. I was both selling and buying so it could have been stressful, but without being aggressive with us, Rick was tenacious with everyone else to be sure we were protected at every turn and understood every step. We watched him work closely with all the different people and personalities in our families and treat each one with respect and incredible patience. His passion, energy, professionalism, and the fact that he always was a step ahead of any problem sets him apart for us from any competition. I am proud to recommend him to anyone looking to buy or sell. We are so happy and love our new house...thanks to Rick and his amazing staff!! - Bryan and James, 2011
