As we turn the spotlight to the wide variety of exciting business launches and expansions in our area over the last year, it feels like a true celebration of our local entrepreneurs taking some big steps in business.

In our cover story, we'll introduce you to the fresh faces and ventures shaping our local economy's future. Additionally, we dive into some exciting developments with longstanding local favorites. You'll find the latest updates from the VBOC of the Dakotas and Pavewise, whose latest projects continue to pave the way for growth, and from the University of Mary, which is expanding its educational programs through a new collaboration for the next generation of young entrepreneurs.

We also spotlight Kari Dunn in this month's "Women You Should Know" column. Lastly, this month's issue also highlights the nonprofit development of Haven Hills Foster Care Community and its mission to establish a neighborhood of foster homes and on-site services just north of Bismarck.

ounded by Deidre Hillman in 2021, 13th Hat was born to serve the returning demand for community events in BismarckMandan post-pandemic, and now serves clients statewide. During COVID, many businesses were haulting their events, due to restrictions on gatherings. Once the world began to settle back into its familiar state, the events scene had changed; staff shortages and budget cuts meant many local businesses were no longer doing events—Deidre saw this as an

opportune moment to begin 13th Hat—a culmination of her entire portfolio and career experience in project managing.

"I wanted to leverage on [the current staff shortages] and become an extension of organizations much like a project manager," she said. With this approach, Hillman can partner with any size business and assist in a variety of event styles from ribbon cuttings, open houses, and staff retreats, to large community-type events, including fundraisers, conferences, trade shows, and more.

With over 20 years of event planning experience, Hillman understands a successful event relies on several moving pieces all coming together. "I always say, you've got to wear a dozen hats at all times. I'm thinking about the guest experience, the vendors, making sure the keynote speaker is on time, and more," she said. "I'm constantly juggling all these hats, so my pitch to my clients

"We were working on resurrecting a largescale fundraising event that had been very popular pre-pandemic. However, I was new to the organization and had never attended the event myself. It was kind of like starting from scratch with just the event name.

Bismarck YMCA location in 2017. In the fall of 2023, they opened a new kiosk inside the Kirkwood Mall, which expanded their team and reach.

While the venture may have begun with only Brian, they now have over 20 employees. "I'm passionate about what I'm doing and don't want to do it anywhere but here. I love everything about it here. The idea of moving our company further into the community is too hard to pass up," Brian said.

| We began a podcast, "Another Day, Another Adventure," featuring the successes of people living a good adventure in the area.

| We added a new location at the Kirkwood Mall.

| We added our first-ever full-time salesman, Austin Link. He and his family were formerly in missions, so building relationships—the important stuff—comes naturally to him.

| We were featured by Google Small Business and invited to Washington, D.C. to participate in Google's Small Business Week, which was a career highlight.

| We marked over 10 years in business.

| Growing our team is as much an accomplishment as it is a challenge—especially for a business that's first and foremost about people. I look to good leaders (there are many!) in town who have navigated that well.

| We have a lot of moving parts since we began as a one-man coffee roaster. That means delegating things ("letting go"). By putting the right people in the right places, we're on track.

| Managing a growing company takes a lot of bandwidth. We began working with a consultant to go from growing a business intuitively to growing a business based on industry standards to help manage some of that growth effectively.

| We had to learn how to lead with culture first, something that doesn't come naturally to any organization. As a result, we redid our employee handbooks to reflect our company values and guide our staff.

| We changed many of our company's mechanics— payment systems, and a brand new way for subscribers to get their fresh roasted coffee on a schedule and directly to their doors. Change is always an opportunity!

We host the BISMAN Triathlon, which is taking place on Saturday, June 22 at McDowell Dam (bismantri.com).

| Starting a business is easy. Growing a business is an enormous effort. That said, year ten won't look anything like day one, so don't wait for everything to be perfect to begin. Learn as much as you can, and do as much research as you can, but start.

| Maintain a journal as you work on your startup. It's crazy how many details come together and people rally by your side. When the going gets tough, those are helpful to look back on.

| There are many, many incredible business owners in Bismarck, and while it might feel like you're alone, there are plenty of people who have done it well. So don't be afraid to ask for help.

| Don't take yourself too seriously. Businesses are risky and they often fail. But don't let the success or failure of your business become your identity. And then, when you remember that the success or failure of your business is not who you are, make decisions out of that headspace.

1, 2024, in the Bismarck-Mandan area. Motivated by significant waitlists and an opportunity to acquire Lunn's Kennel Club that they couldn't pass by, the expansion aimed to bring their operations into town. The business now employs 21 individuals across both locations, providing dog and cat boarding, daycare, gohome baths, and an exclusive underwater treadmill for pets with mobility needs or post-surgery recovery.

We were in the Google Economic Impact Report for 2023 and we are expecting a piece to come out on us with the Small Business Administration at the end of April. We used the Veteran's Business Outreach Center's Boots to Business to help us develop and start our north location, Bed N Biscuit Ranch, and we used the knowledge gained from that business to set up Bed N Biscuit 2.

Our underwater treadmill for dogs! We've seen amazing results; we're so excited when we hear about dogs that couldn't jump up on the furniture that are now playing and jumping into their owner's lap at night.

| Ensuring appropriate staffing and that everyone was trained. We hired the majority of our staff the month before opening and trained them at the north location so that the transition would be as painless as possible and they did an amazing job.

| Installing the underwater treadmill for dogs. It required some significant remodeling right away but has been well worth the effort. Seeing the mobility improvements in the dogs that have used the treadmill along with the weight loss has been incredible. We knew it would be a useful training tool for dogs but even we are astounded by the improvements of the pups that have used it.

We've only had the new location open since January but we continue to grow each month. We have a great staff that loves the animals and is diligent in their care. We couldn't be prouder to be offering the cleanest, safest, and most engaging boarding experience for the pups in our local community.

We use Facebook, Instagram, and Google Analytics to see what is being said about us, how many people are searching for us and then connecting to our services, and how often we are recommended in different forums. It is always a great feeling to see your company being highly recommended when new people to the community ask where to board their furry family members.

Gentle Paws Critter Care is a pet-sitting and dog-walking service that was initially launched on April 8, 2024. The founder, Mariah Konchan's, journey into the pet care industry began through a mobile app for side gigs such as dog-walking, initially as a means to earn some extra income. Over time, Konchan realized a deep passion for pet care, stating that she equally loved the work and the pets, as it felt fulfilling to her.

"I started out taking care of pets and walking dogs through a gig app," Konchan said. "I loved the work, I loved the pets, it felt fulfilling, and my clients and I felt that I did a good job. I realized that the gig app was holding me back in terms of who I could provide service to, because it only advertised services for cats and dogs, although I have plenty of experience caring for rodents, and some experience caring for reptiles and birds, even."

| What is a bigger success than becoming friends with dozens of pets?

| Deciding to become independent and start the business was a very happy moment. I knew that this was something I'd want to do long-term.

| Even before I started my business, I decided to start doing pet sitting as my sole source of income. Before that, I thought I should be doing pet care around another job, or around being a student. The day that I realized I could do pet care only was very relieving.

| In building my website, which is still a work in progress, I was having trouble with how I would integrate a Client Relations Management method. I knew that whatever I did would have limited functionality compared to what the gig app had. Then, I stumbled across CRM software for independent pet sitters—who knew that was a thing? It was perfect!

| One of the biggest lows was the 20% cut that the gig app took out of the rates I set. I could have set my rates higher to counteract that, but that would have been a disservice to my clients. Becoming independent and ceasing the use of the gig app was the best way to increase my earnings without increasing the price to my clients.

| I've struggled with knowing what I wanted to do with my life ever since expecting that I needed to go to college to do anything worthwhile. Even at the beginning of my petsitting career, I didn't think it would be anything permanent. However, just sticking to it and realizing how much I loved it was enough to push me in the direction of making this a long-term career.

A: We were motivated to offer something different to the Bismarck-Mandan area for a change. We've always been interested in unique and one-of-a-kind items, as well as the hunt for those. We went to a few of these in other states and thought it would be good in this community. This is a small family-owned business that is run currently by myself, my wife, and my daughters.

Sapphire Gallery & Custom Framing, owned by Jill Edinger, opened in March upon relocation from Bismarck. The gallery began as a venue to spotlight local artists, and over time, has expanded to include custom framing services, driven by Jill's commitment to growth.

"I opened Sapphire Gallery in Jamestown as a small fine art gallery to showcase North Dakota artists," Jill said. "The opportunity arose to add custom framing services and I took advantage and have grown a faithful customer base that has followed me as my business has moved."

Today, Sapphire Gallery offers a range of services including custom framing, glass and mat cutting, passport photos, and the sale of artwork. Additionally, Jill assists her customers in creating personalized canvases, acrylic, and metal prints, among other items.

As the sole operator, Jill continues to embrace the art of custom framing. "Although the former owner of the frame shop trained me in the art of custom framing during my first year in business, I am still learning and growing," Edinger said.

Jill Edinger first launched Sapphire Gallery & Custom Framing in Jamestown in the spring of 2020. A move to Bismarck brought Edinger to the Capitol City in March 2024. In her spare time, Edinger enjoys photography, selling her photos at Pride of Dakota shows, the Bismarck Street Fair, and more. Furthermore, she's a supporting member of the Bismarck Downtown Artist Cooperative.

Atomic Sealing, a business launched in April 2024 by experienced tradesperson Adam Hewson, specializes in fluid-applied foundation waterproofing and elastomeric or siliconized roof coatings. The founder's journey into entrepreneurship began while working for an insulation company between 2013 and 2019, where he first encountered waterproofing applications.

This experience sparked a recurring thought about independent operations, especially for mobile home roof sealing—a market with significant demand in the BismarckMandan area, known for its high concentration of such homes. "Through asking around, I realized that I could potentially help a lot of people," Hewson said. "I'm an independent owner and operator, and for now, I'm just excited to see how things go if there is potential for growth and expansion in the future I'd be more than happy."

Cafe Noko, located within St. Alexius Hospital but welcoming to the public, was launched on May 15, 2023, by owner Brian Steckler. Starting with a team of 6, Cafe Noko has already grown to employ 13 dedicated staff members.

The café offers a hearty range of meals throughout the day, starting with breakfast favorites like the "Gochu Bagel," homemade quiches, and caramel rolls, acclaimed as some of their best. Lunch and dinner features an assortment of sandwiches, fresh salads with in-house dressings, and flatbread pizzas, along with daily specials and homemade soups.

Unique to Cafe Noko are its gourmet coffees and signature drinks, crafted from a local roaster’s blend that was chosen through a blind taste test. "The blend we use won by a landslide and you can taste the difference in every cup," Brian said.

We had the challenges of opening a new business; learning all of the nuances of the ebb and flow of customer traffic, getting used to an entirely new menu, and getting trained as a barista took some time. Now that we've been at this for nearly a year, we are fully staffed and we are hitting our stride. The team is consistent, competent, and reliable day in and day out.

Q: In what ways does your business engage with the local Bis-Man community?

A: We have been a part of some fundraisers and donation events. We contributed to the 'Night with the Stars' event last year and plan to do the same this year. We also contributed to the upcoming "Brave the Shave" event and will be even more involved in local events this year.

Q: What has been the response from your customers since opening/expanding? How do you gather and utilize feedback from the Bis-Man community?

A: The response from the customers has been tremendous and we feel the support every day. The Point-of-Sale

A: I wish I had known more about time commitment. I've heard stories about being "married to the business" and spending all of your time there. I certainly underestimated those stories, or at least at first, I did. Managing the café at the airport was certainly time-consuming, but owning a business is completely different. I was no stranger to 20+ hour days when we first opened, so I was extremely tired and worn out. Balancing work and family life was incredibly difficult. Now that we are settled in and have seemingly hit our stride, the work days have shrunk to about 13 hours. A vast improvement from the first few months. Who knows, maybe there will be some "days off" soon!

Haven Hills Foster Care Community

Nonprofit organizations are oftentimes overlooked in the community due to a lack of promotional funds and advertising, amongst other reasons. To help spread awareness of these efforts being made, we feature a local nonprofit in each issue that we believe deserves a spotlight shined on the great work that they’ve done and continue to do within the community.

Haven Hills Foster Care Community (HHFCC) is an entirely volunteerrun nonprofit working to establish a neighborhood of foster homes and on-site services built on 80 acres of land, 10 miles north of Bismarck. It will provide the support, encouragement, and resources necessary to attract new and retain existing, experienced foster families, as well as bring stability to dramatically improve the quality of healing for children in foster care and their entire family unit.

I had the pleasure of connecting with Amber Bohl, Founder & Executive Director of Haven Hills Foster Care Community, to discuss the HH's ambitious plans to make an impact on our region's foster community, the funds they're in search of, how you can help, and more.

Over six years ago, Amber became a foster parent and saw firsthand many of the struggles in foster care. She experienced and heard from fellow foster parents about their struggles, lack of support and communication from social workers, isolation, and burnout. She heard from social workers about their day-to-day chaos, the case overload, not being able to do their jobs of helping the families and children because their time was consumed with transportation, and the constant staff turnover. Lastly, Amber spoke with the children in foster care. She heard from them about their lack of consistency, stability, loss, family trauma, and identity issues.

"Foster youth often have unique challenges and need additional services that are difficult to navigate," Bohl said. "Foster parents are often balancing children from multiple families in addition to their own family, marriage, jobs, and activities. It can be difficult to get the support they need since there is only a small group of people who understand the unique challenges of being a foster parent. In the last 15 years, the gap in fostering services between need and resources has grown and will continue to widen unless innovative resources are added."

According to the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition, research has proven that retaining foster parents is one of the most powerful ways to dramatically improve the quality of healing for kids in care. "Haven Hills will be a community of united foster families making it their mission to care for foster children until they can be reunited with their biological families or obtain permanency through adoption. There will be an extensive vetting process to become a foster family at Haven Hills. We require families to be licensed foster homes in good standing, willing to bring at least four foster youth placements into their homes and be in good financial standing. If approved, housing would be provided at a minimal cost so that families can better support the youth in their care. The minimum residency term is one year, with the goal of multiple years."

Overworked social workers lead to frustrated foster parents, which causes a shortage of foster homes and adds to the social workers’ stress and inability to support foster parents. Amber knew that something needed to be done, and in February 2022, she started developing a vision for Haven Hills.

She and the HHFCC organization have been in constant communication with the North Dakota Department of Human Services (NDDHS) and their Human Service Zones in the area. According to Bohl, these organizations have been very supportive of Haven Hills' mission. "We're here to partner and fill a gap in services, so staying in communication with these state entities is vital to us."

Another piece of HHFCC's unique mission is to provide support to the children aging out of foster care (those 18 and older). Bohl wants them to be able to stay at Haven Hills, in a concept similar to a tiny home, allowing them to find independence while still having their community support system around them and cheering them on.

"Ultimately, children in foster care, foster parents, and social workers need a community to help them thrive and not just survive," Bohl said. "A nurturing community will inspire and equip each child to break the cycle of trauma and brokenness and will show them what a healthy environment is supposed to be like. It takes an entire community of people to intentionally care for children in foster care."

We're connected with ND Region VII Foster Parent Association, which pulls from 10 surrounding counties and provides training to licensed foster parents. They act as a support group of sorts for foster parents in the community. They host a monthly virtual and in-person training with a free meal and childcare for foster parents. Consider partnering with us to provide and serve a meal at one of these training sessions."

Seattle Seahawks Offensive Guard, Phil Haynes (#60), participated in My Cause My Cleats 2023, where players have the opportunity to pick a cause that is important to them and represent their chosen organization on custom-designed cleats. Haynes chose Haven Hills as his cause to support!

Q: How has HHFCC's journey been since the beginning?

A: As expected, it has been a lot of work. It has been “slow," but productive. Do we wish Haven Hills was an up-and-running community by now? Absolutely! But we have made a lot of great connections and are intentionally building community relationships so that a foster care community can be sustainable and have the support of the community. The support that we have received to date has been incredible!

Q: How has HHFCC's mission changed?

A: We have strategically pivoted to not just have our main goal of building a foster care community to provide onsite services and amenities, but as we raise the funds and support to build the community, we are working on implementing a platform to be able to

better rally the community to support the current needs (like clothing, furniture, diapers, school supplies, groceries, etc.) of foster families and struggling biological families that encounter obstacles that can easily be met by the community's willingness to fill the need. This platform makes it easy for the community to see a need and fill it, and we will be helping fellow communities across North Dakota implement this platform as well.

By The Numbers

In North Dakota, there are approximately 1,500 children in foster care on any given day.

In Burleigh County, there are an average of 200 children in foster care and only 80 licensed foster families.

We are entirely volunteer-run!

This project is an innovative concept and the only one of its kind in the state of North Dakota; one of only a few similar ideas across the country.

We have been receiving so much community support and commitment from companies wanting to donate services towards projects once we start building, but our biggest obstacle currently is raising the money to buy the land so we can start building.

The majority of foster parents are licensed through the State of North Dakota or Nexus PATH. Both of these licensing agencies are statewide, so both foster parents and children in foster care from across the state of North Dakota can be served at HHFCC, even though it is based in Bismarck.

Q: What sets you apart from other organizations in BismarckMandan, or other organizations with similar missions?

A: We don’t just want to provide a service in our community, we want to be the community. We want to go above and beyond to show hurting children how a community can rally around them and their biological families. We want these children and families to thrive, not just survive. This is not a Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. organization. Foster care is 24/7, and foster parents are often balancing children from multiple families in addition to their own family, marriage, jobs, and activities. Being connected in a close-knit community with neighbors who understand the peaks and valleys of foster care and are there to assist when situations arise will help end the isolation, diminish the struggles, and benefit the social workers, foster parents, and the children in foster care, as well as their entire family unit.

As we continue to raise the funds necessary to establish this community,

we work to raise awareness about foster care in our state, and we find opportunities to recruit and retain foster parents and social workers. Our platform to fill needs will launch soon!

Q: What services will a donor's money go to when contributing to HHFCC's mission?

A: Donations will go towards:

• Establishing the Haven Hills Foster Care Community of homes.

• Covering our platform costs to connect the community with the tangible needs of foster parents, children in foster care, and their biological families.

• Fulfilling some of these needs and supporting the retention of foster parents and social workers.

Q: How can people donate to Haven Hills in other ways than money?

A: If you want to donate 80 or more acres of land, a house, a passenger

van, or something else on our wish list—we won’t say no! We are always looking for people with specialized skill sets to advise and be part of the mission. Whether you are experienced in property management, project management, interior design, marketing, grant writing, baking, event coordinating, photography, networkers, and more—we need all hands on deck!

We also have various events throughout the year where volunteers are needed, and once our platform is launched, filling the posted needs would be such a blessing to the families we want to support.

Q: What other nonprofit organizations, local to the Bismarck-Mandan area, have shown support to Haven Hills?

A: The 31:8 Project has estimated that 60% of all child sex trafficking victims have histories in the child welfare system, and we can attest to their being children in foster care in North Dakota who have come out of trafficking situations.

The Dream Center provides free meals and groceries to anyone. A lot of the struggling biological families of our children in foster care can find community and help through the Dream Center. We are so thankful for how they assist families in our community with not just food, but health screenings, taxes, support groups, and more.

Haven Hills Foster Care Community stands as more than just a project for many foster families and children in need. The initiative showcases the strength of a passionate group coming together to uplift our community's foster care system. BISMARCK STATE COLLEGE AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MARY UNVEIL GROUNDBREAKING TRANSFER AGREEMENT

Bismarck State College (BSC) and the University of Mary share a common aim. “Bismarck State College will be a leader in polytechnic education, improving lives and building sustainable communities,” reads BSC’s mission statement, recently updated to reflect the school’s focus on statewide workforce preparation. University of Mary’s mission statement opens with a parallel affirmation: “The University of Mary exists to serve the religious, academic, and cultural needs of the people in this region and beyond.”

Both BSC and the University of Mary have the common goal or mission of striving to enrich lives, meet needs, and foster a healthy sense of community by expanding access to educational services, primarily in the southwest North Dakota region, but especially in the Bismarck-Mandan area. The "Mystic-Marauder Community Commitment," a trailblazing initiative spearheaded by institutional leaders Dr. Doug Jensen and Monsignor James Shea, represents the two schools’ latest and boldest effort toward this united goal and endeavor.

“In recognition of the historic bond between our institutions, our

student-first approach to higher education, and our shared goal of serving the Bismarck-Mandan community,” said Jensen, at a January press conference. “This initiative provides a seamless and affordable pathway for BSC alumni to further their education, advance in their careers, and ultimately make a lasting difference in the lives of their neighbors.”

Besides streamlining enrollment for BSC graduates, the University of Mary’s tuition-match agreement promises to boost the metropolitan area’s supply of skilled professionals year by year. According to BismarckMandan Chamber EDC president Brenda Nagel, such an influx of leaders and innovators would promote prosperity and stimulate development in in the BismarckMandan region.

“[BSC and the University of Mary] give our business community a priceless gift each spring when they graduate hundreds of wellprepared students. The more that they work together for the betterment of our community in that way, the more every one of us benefits,” Nagel said. “As business leaders, we’re responsible for doing something with that annual gift by not only giving BSC and Mary students excellent jobs but also creating a community where they would want to live and thrive and raise a family.”

To Nagel, the undeniable financial advantages of transferring from BSC to the University of Mary under the Commitment incentivize local students to put down roots in the Bismarck-Mandan community. “This agreement gives our students a really fantastic menu of opportunities. Based on conversations I’ve had with students, I know that there’s a temptation to move somewhere else, either for school or for work after graduation,” Nagel said. “But I think financial responsibility is top of mind for today’s students and

their families. And thanks to this new initiative, a lot of these young people—whether they’re from Bismarck-Mandan or elsewhere— can start to see a series of stepping stones: they can get their associate at BSC, make that natural move and finish their education at Mary, and then stay in the community to take advantage of our job opportunities.”

Monsignor James Shea, president of the University of Mary, shared his own optimism, noting the Commitment’s timeliness and underlining its fundamental purpose.

“The Mystic-Marauder Community Commitment comes at a critical moment for us as a community— BismarckMandan and North Dakota as a whole,” Shea said. “We’re in the business of community-building, and our greatest resource is our people. This innovative

pathway commitment honors the important relationship between BSC and the University of Mary, enabling us to serve the Bismarck-Mandan community united together by providing flexible, affordable access to higher education for our local students.”

Shea’s take on the Commitment’s significance offered a clue as to why BSC and the University of Mary remain two of BismarckMandan’s cornerstone institutions. “Sure, we need to

attract new people,” Shea said. Pointing to a key prerequisite for stable community growth, Shea added, “More than half of Mary’s students come from beyond North Dakota, and many of them stay. But retaining our young people who already call this area their home is crucial to building a truly vibrant place to live here in Bismarck-Mandan.”

Follows Passion for Business Ownership

If you’re all in on your life and goals, making a permanent change is easier. When you realize that you have the potential to change your life and you feel compelled to do so, it is important to trust your gut and work hard at your goals to show up for what matters.

“So many people are only halfway in,” said Kari Dunn. “Whether that’s with a company, employees, or even hobbies.”

Sometimes we must follow our own advice. Kari Dunn felt like she wasn't all in on her life goals and that there was more she could be doing for her community and herself, so she took the leap and moved on from a decadeslong financial career and, like the name of her company states, went all in to open All In Development Company. Dunn realized that giving her all meant moving beyond financial advice to businesses and leadership coaching that empowers individuals and teams with strategic and collaborative solutions to reach their full potential.

Crunching the numbers

Dunn always had a respect for numbers and helping businesses pursue profits. This led her to seek a bachelor's degree in business management and employment in the financial services sector as a young woman. She found a home in the banking world, working her way up through the system from a management intern at Bank of the West all the way to overseeing business development for the Western Region in private banking at Bravera. Along the way, she had an opportunity to develop a passion for leadership training and development.

“I got placed into a supervisor role at a really young age,” Dunn said. “I think we've all seen where someone gets put into a supervisor or

management position just because they're good at what they do, not because they’re good at managing people. It can be overwhelming. For me, it sparked a passion for helping those up-and-coming supervisors, managers, and leaders with accessible training and the tools to make sure they have open lines of communication.”

While she may not have been, by her own definition, all in, Dunn found satisfaction with her career and personal life by following her passion. She was helping her team, and her clients think strategically. Outside of her day job, she found opportunities here and there to apply her coaching and leadership skills to benefit the Dickinson community. However, when her mother's health deteriorated, Dunn found that even being most of the way in still left a lot of room for improvement.

"She suffered from COPD and congestive heart failure,” Dunn said. “Taking care of her, I realized how important every day is. She kept telling me how she wished she’d done more and how life goes so fast. I got a heavy feeling about how I'm in my early 40s and if I don't go all in now, when am I ever going to be able to do it?”

Going all in

When Dunn decided to go all in on her new enterprise it meant that she would start to use her networking and leadership skills to communicate with others and not give up. With her years of experience as a consultant and strategic planner, she was excited to help clients of any size live their full potential with empowering, motivating, and collaborative coaching that is meant to improve the culture of a workplace.

“Professionals should start bouncing ideas off each other, mentoring, and helping each other do well instead of establishing a hierarchy of fear and competition," Dunn said.

With this new outlook, Dunn works to help employers bridge communication gaps. She teaches managers to look for ways to utilize the fast pace of the younger generations to help businesses continue moving forward.

“If I help empower people at all levels within the business, those employees are more all in with the company,” she said. “In turn, they go home and they're more motivated. They're better parents, right? Like the circle of life,” explained Dunn.

Reaching 100% potential

Dunn will be the first to tell you she doesn’t have it all worked out, but she's excited to be making her dream a reality and supporting a wider part of her community.

“Life is constant learning and it’s okay to have no idea what you are doing," she said. “It is normal for everyone at least once if not more, to question what you want to do.”

An important message for everyone. Whether you’re 25, 38, or 50, you need to start by choosing what you love to do and be all in on your goal. Even if that means forging a new path.

“There is never a right time because the time is NOW,” Dunn said.
