Welcome.
I first heard about the "Faces of" concept in 2016 from a publisher out of Omaha, Nebraska. They had created a magazine that helps promote local business by featuring a "Face" of a specific business type (e.g. "Face of Architecture"). This publisher found that the publication was able to connect community members with local Omaha businesses. From there, I talked to other publishers and wanted to see how the publication was received in their markets. Overall, we found that the feedback was really great in those regions, too.
Of course, I love and will always champion the idea of promoting community. That's why in 2021, we decided to bring this concept to the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo, and Bismarck-Mandan communities. And in 2022, we continued to create this publication in those markets while also bringing the concept to Sioux Falls.
And we continued in all three markets for 2023 as well. At all of our stops along the way, we have received such great feedback that we are bringing it back for our fourth annual issue.
We hope you enjoy this publication and take the opportunity to get to know some of the people behind our thriving business community.
In 14 years, we have been able to create over 500 magazines. All of which are solely based on telling positive community stories! This is another piece to that puzzle and I truly believe you will enjoy reading about your friends and neighbors in the ensuing pages.
This publication is considered a "native advertising piece" in the publishing industry. This means that each "Face of" is a sponsored page and paid for by that advertiser. However, this is not a "Best of" publication—it is simply a way for our community to see some of the "Faces" of respective businesses. In turn, we are connecting our readers to businesses they may not even be aware of.
By making this a sponsored magazine, we were able to produce the publication at a high quality and provide 30,000 copies free to the public. Our sales and editorial teams worked to ensure that we reached out to credible "Faces" of the categories we chose. Our goal is for readers to enjoy learning more about some of the people behind the businesses that make our community flourish. Hopefully, it will create a better sense of community and also encourage more of us to shop local!

Jody is the second owner of Bridal N’ More, which opened more than three decades ago. Two years after

Destination Downtown, owned by Jody Freeman, is a one-of-a-kind small event venue located in downtown Bismarck. Being a bridal boutique owner with more than 25 years of experience in bridal wear and special events planning, she always heard about the need for a small venue in town for special gatherings. After considering it for several years, she finally decided to go ahead and make it happen.
A few years ago, she redesigned a 1,500-square-foot portion of the building where Bridal N' More is located, and it was transformed into a truly charming venue. The restoration included uncovering the original 100-year-old hardwood floors and brick walls and bringing them back to life.
The space can accommodate up to 75 guests and has become a favorite for micro weddings, bridal and baby showers, graduation parties, rehearsal dinners, pop-up shops, and corporate events. People love that they can do their own decorating and bring in their own food, or hire it from their favorite place. The setting has brought many people back to downtown Bismarck, where they rediscover local businesses and the community atmosphere.

Camp of the Cross Ministries, located on Lake Sakakawea near Garrison, ND, has been serving the community for 70 years.

Central Dakota Humane Society
Central Dakota Humane Society (CDHS) has been helping pets and people in the community for 65 years. They rescue stray, abandoned, neglected, and injured animals, providing shelter, a warm bed, nutritious food, veterinary and medical care, socialization, playtime, training, and love—with a final goal to match pets with loving, forever homes.
All adopted pets are vet-checked, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and sent home with a goody bag and comfort items to help them adjust.
CDHS works to keep pets in homes and reduce the number of unwanted pets entering shelters/rescues through
two programs. The Buddy’s Bowl Program helps to fill the bowls of pets in need through donations of pet food and partnerships with several human aid organizations. The Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) provides nearly 1,200 assistance coupons every year to encourage spaying/neutering to stop the cycle of pet overpopulation.
“We are thankful to serve the community and grateful to those who support us through things like volunteer hours, donations of money and goods, and participation in our events and fundraisers,” Shelter Director Sue Buchholz said. “The number of pets in need never goes down so we must continue rescuing and matching pets with people who will love them. Animals give us so much love and comfort. It’s
the least we can do to be there for them when they need help.”

The Capital Gallery, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, has been dedicated to celebrating North Dakota’s art, history, and culture since 2016.
