1 Pixeled Brewing Co

I tried out Fargo's newest addition to the bar and brewery scene, Pixeled Brewing Co. They are loaded up with beloved arcade games, and their brews are customizable, with an extensive list of puree flavors to add to their house beers. I tried the Coruscant Kolsch with key lime and vanilla bean puree in it, a combo similar in taste to a key lime pie.

2 How Fargo of You

I finally got around to reading the local favorite, "How Fargo of You" by Marc de Celle. I admit that I began reading it out of a sense of loyalty to this city, but found myself unable to put it down. I burned through it in two days!

will be the first to confess that I am not a Fargo native, and I can't pretend to recall what things looked like here 10 years ago. However, in the period of time I have called Fargo "home," I have seen changes and growth everywhere I look. From announcements of new residential buildings to new local government officials to new shops and bars...there are signs of change throughout.

With the city's growth comes the growth of the businesses and communities that exist within it. Not one to fall behind, Fargo Monthly's parent company Spotlight is following suit in this growth. In just the past two months, we have added 10 new staff members to our team and even more within the last calendar year. With this, we have also expanded the breadth of what we offer as a business.

I can already hear it, "So you're telling me there's a bunch of newbies around? How am I supposed to trust these folks I've

never seen before?" Not to worry. Within the pages of this issue, we have set out a framework to let you get to know our staff.

Our yearbook of sorts will allow you to see who we are as individuals and what we are drawn to in the community, including admirable tidbits big and small.

We invite you to grow with us and welcome in the fresh faces (myself included!) With the snow that has become a regular staple on the grounds around town, we hope you will take time to find a warm spot and settle in to let us share all of Fargo's treasures we have enjoyed in 2018. I can't think of a better way celebrate the holidays and ring in the new year than with celebrating what made this year oh so merry.

4 Minn-Kota Pawws Portraits

This month I brought my dog Lance to Natural Pet Center for a frame-worthy fall pet portrait session. Donations of this event benefitted Minn-Kota Pawws to assist them in offering low cost spay/neuters and community outreach to those in need. A cute picture AND a donation to a good cause? Sure!

For the first time in my of-voting-age life, I lived in the state I am registered to vote in (thanks, out-of-state college!) It was exciting to live out my civic duty and submit my very first in-person ballot...which also meant my very first "I voted" sticker! My polling station was at the El Zagal Shrine, and the process was smooth, quick and fulfilling.

I loved the Pet Issue this July especially because I recently adopted a dog. It was so great to have a "guide" to ease myself into new pet ownership. Jack, my dog, loves it because we scope out the pet-friendly places.

I just recently learned about Plants for Patients, but I am so excited about their organization. Their mission is to provide a framework for communities to support their neighbors, to sow gentle seeds of compassion into our cultural abortion conversation and to provide an alternative discourse rooted in pro-compassion humanitarianism.

Each patient receives a plant with a homemade pot and handwritten note.

What's an ideal date night for you?

My boyfriend and I LOVE Lucky's 13 Pub - their Cubano and stuffed tater tots are the go-to's. They also have such a great patio, especially on the 4th of July.

I loved Who What Wear in the September issue. This was my first issue as editor of the magazine and I loved getting to dive in a topic I am most interested in: fashion.

I got to visit Anna Lake Animal Sanctuary for a piece this year, and I love their mission. They educate the community on animal rights issues and save farm animals in need. It's my secret dream to own my own animal sanctuary someday.

What's a fun weekend getaway you love?

In July I got to go to Eau Claire, WI, for the music festival, Eaux Claires. I had never even been to Wisconsin before this, and I loved getting the take in that Midwest scenery on the drive there. Plus seeing Francis and the Lights, Justin Vernon and Pussy Riot all in one place was pretty memorable.

Favorite Fargo hidden treasure I'm properly obsessed with the obscure collection of large statues and lawn ornaments outside of The Woodchuck Furniture Restoration. Why are they there? What is their purpose? Can I buy one for my living room?

What's an ideal date night for you?

My fiance and I love Twist.

They have a full vegan menu for me and countless drink options to enjoy. The environment is nice and mature, but we don't feel the pressure of having to dress up and get stuffy for it.

I love spending a long weekend at Lake Blanche.

The water is crystal clear, and everyone around the lake is like family.

When I go out for a date night, there is no better place than Mezzaluna.

They always have a new, innovative menu, and their service is exceptional.

My favorite local place to have an amazing signature cocktail is Cork and Clever. Their bartenders make the best French Martinis.

April's "Beer, Wine, & Spirits Tour." My friends and I are still trying to check all the "To-Do's" from each brewery off.

Hands down, Wild Terra Cider & Brewing. I’m a sucker for the Lilly Dipper they make that’s infused with strawberries and brown sugar. Plus they have a vegetarian/vegan menu, and their upstairs seating has couches and games, making it a really cozy spot to hang out in the winter.

Rosey’s Bistro. My boyfriend and I love their cheese plate and specialty mules. Plus, some nights there is someone there playing the piano. #Romance

For food, I’m a sucker for India Palace’s Mushroom Balti. For drinks, you can’t go wrong with a locally roasted pour-over from Youngblood.

What's a fun weekend local getaway you love?

Organiz I've had the opportunity to attend both of Audience of One's Fargo events. It's incredible to me, as a football nerd, that Wentz, especially after a relatively rocky rookie season, decided to give and give as aggressively as he is before he even signed his second NFL contract. The NFL is a no guarantees league, and for him to give that much of himself so early on in his career really shows you what kind of person Carson is and what kind of representative for the state and for the University he is as well. I believe in the message of AO1, and I believe in Carson Wentz.

Lakes Country. Fargo has incredible options for anyone who wants to enjoy the lakes experience for any reason. Golfers, fishermen, boating enthusiast, watersports enthusiasts, it doesn't matter. Pelican Lake, Detroit Lakes, Lake Lida etc. are all within an hour's drive and offer beautiful scenery, active game & fish opportunities and wonderful food and drink options. Even if you don't own a cabin, the lakes have easy access for boats, public beaches and restaurants like Zorbaz, Hotel Shoreham and Spanky's.

Favorite Fargo hidden treasure Graver Barbers. It's a little downtown barber shop, but the people are awesome and he's the only guy who's really been able to get my beard cut the way I like it. It's also been recently remodeled with a bit of an industrial feel, and my wife and I stole a few ideas for our new basement.

Favorite weekend getaway Last year, we visited Aberdeen, S.D., and went to Storybook Island - that was a lot of fun! I was surprised how much they had there, and it kept the kids busy for hours.

My husband loves to hunt, so he had plenty of other things to do there as well!

We also love heading to any of the many lakes (typically up to Devils Lake unless we want to make a quicker trip) for some fun family fishing. We do this all year 'round. Brewer Lake is also fun to take the kids ice fishing at because there is a ton of action even if the fish aren't huge.

Porter Creek is always nice - especially when it's nice out and you can enjoy their back patio.

The kids also really enjoy Yunker Farm - I love how they have rooms and activities for all ages!

What's an ideal date night for you?

My choice is technically two spots, but they share an alley, so it should count as one: Mezzaluna and the Fargo Theatre. The atmosphere at Mezzaluna is such a perfect place to share a drink and a meal with your sweetie; it feels so romantic and personal.

Part two of date night is only steps away at the best place in town to see a movie: the Fargo Theatre. It’s the kind of place that distracts you from the movie you came to see because of how unique and beautiful the theatre itself is.

My favorite local hidden treasure is without a doubt Fargo Pinball. Growing up, I had a huge love for arcade games, but pinball in particular held a special place in my heart.

There just is something about the tangibility they have as opposed to traditional video games. For that reason, Fargo Pinball is simply heaven to me. They have everything from the classics to brand new units to play or purchase for your own home. Plus, their membership model makes you feel like you’re part of a special club just being there, which, frankly, you are!

I’d start my day at the The Shack on Broadway with a hearty, delicious breakfast to prepare for the day. After that, it’s off to Thunder Road for mini golf, laser tag and a few laps around the go-kart track. All that action can work up an appetite, so best to head to the Bowler for some pizza and bowling. While I’m in the area, why not head to Fargo Pinball to rack up some high scores? Once my pockets are a little lighter after dropping some quarters, I’d head downtown to the Fargo Theatre for a matinee. Salty popcorn tends to bring on a mighty thirst, so best to quench it during a tour of Proof Artisan Distillers. Now that I’m no longer parched, might as well grab a bite in Proof’s Tasting Room before heading back out for some Fargo nightlife. To cap off the evening, nothing beats some aimless wandering through downtown, hitting up whatever catches my eye.

After living in North Dakota almost all my life and hearing how great it is from everyone who has visited, I’d have to say the Medora Musical.

This season marked 60 years since the Burning Hill Amphitheater was built, and it is a truly breathtaking location to see a show. Even in 108 degree weather, the cast didn’t miss a beat. A must see for anyone who loves the Old West and wants to know more about North Dakota’s history.

FAVORITE LOCAL DRINK Since I started working downtown, I've become a frequent visitor of Babb's Coffee House. Their daily special drinks are always so delicious and creative, and the staff is super friendly!

What's an ideal date night for you?

My husband and I love Izumi! They have great hibachi, appetizers, sushi and more on their all-you-can-eat menu.

I went to a lot of concerts and events this year (shoutout to Jade Presents for bringing so many great acts here!), but being in the second row for the Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats show at Bluestem was definitely a highlight for me. I've been a huge fan of theirs for years, and I got to interview keyboardist Mark Shusterman ahead of their show for FargoMonthly.com, which was basically just like the cherry on top. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it!

Did you learn anything new about Fargo this year that is fun?

I got married in September, and I learned what a fun but also stressful process that can be. My husband and I had our wedding and reception at Sanctuary Events Center, and our day could've been a lot more stressful if it wasn't for the wonderful people who work there. They all made sure everything was taken care of so we could have a perfect day. Also, we got a crazy amount of compliments on the food from Chef's Table, their in-house catering company. If you're planning a wedding or other kind of event, I can't recommend that beautiful venue and the delicious food highly enough!

One of my favorite things about Fargo is all of the options for community gardening. I have a plot downtown, and it's the perfect activity for the summer months (plus veggies!!).

FAVORITE LOCAL FOOD This is such a hard one because Fargo has so many great restaurants! One of my new favorites is the Himalayan Yak. The Tikka Masala is SO good.

What's a fun weekend getaway you love?

Duluth, Minn., will always have a piece of my heart! Lake Superior is gorgeous and there are so many nice breweries in that area.

learn about fargo this year

After spending the last five years in Seattle, I hardly recognize the Fargo area. There are so many new things for my family to explore — but, I think we’re going to start with the Red River Market when the next season rolls around!

I’d wake up to an Atomic Bomb from Atomic Coffee, and head to Sandy’s Donuts for a maple and bacon bar. Then, slide on down to JL Beers for a Humpty burger, add bacon and special sauce. Now, I need to recover at a park before I go to Red Pepper for an Everything Grinder — grab the white sauce bottle.

Phew. Okay, now it’s time to meet my friends downtown for some drink specials while reminiscing about the glory days. Finally before the clock runs out, I have to hit up Taco Bros Food Truck for a Trust You Bro Platter and Mexicorn. Did my entire day almost entirely revolve around food? Yes, yes it did. No regrets.

What's a fun weekend local-ish getaway you love?

A 20 minute drive to Buffalo River State Park in Glyndon, MN, is a perfect way to spend your day outside and watch the seasons change. There’s swimming, picnicking, camping and 12 miles of hiking trails.

Retreats. You see them everywhere nowadays, and you’ve probably been extremely tempted to partake in one, but things get in the way like time, money and the energy to travel. If you can't make it to an organized retreat, treat yourself to an at-home retreat. To do this: be sure to plan it out and let your loved ones know of this scheduled "me time," set an intention for the time, disconnect completely (yes, from technology, too!), prepare your meals and create a set schedule to keep you focused. This is a great way to show yourself love, care, compassion and a much-needed recharge.

For A Healthy Winter Vacation or Weekend Getaway

1. Get enough sleep. Don't let fun adventures sacrifice your sleep schedule!

2. Keep moving and stretching, even if it's just a brisk walk in a new neighborhood.

3. Don't overindulge in adult beverages, and try and stay away from drinks loaded with sugar and mixed boozes.

4. Do something fun and different in the area you're visiting to stay active.

5. Pack natural anti-inflammatory aids like ginger tea or essential oils to keep you healthy.

Eat Plants, Drink Wine

The Frosting On The Cake If there is an ingredient list of lifestyle choices that make up your weight gain cake, then there is also frosting — the one ingredient that can make or break even the best cakes. Your significant other is the frosting that can make bad things sweet or be so terrible you can’t even finish the cake. For all things big or small, this person’s influence is tremendous. In choosing your partner, make sure you encourage each other on your health journeys. In all of C.J.'s years of helping people lose weight, she noted that none have been successful long-term without genuine support from the individual who shares their bed, their kitchen and their life.

Adaptive-Thermo-What?

How do you not sabotage yourself and your dietary goals when cheat meals are all around? C.J. says to go for the cheat and suggests, "If you’re going to fall off the wagon, I suggest falling off so hard that you hit your head and break your leg." Doing this will: 1. Make you feel so sick and gluttonous that you won't be tempted to cheat again

anytime soon.

2. Begin a process called adaptive thermogenesis. When you reduce calorie intake,

your body responds by decreasing calorie expenditure. Instead of continually cutting calories to lose weight and engaging in a fight you will never win, go ahead and eat that fry bread taco with all the fixings. Order a beer, too. A cheat meal every once in a while will let your body know there is enough food coming and no need for it to preserve fat, which makes your body think you are starving and need it to survive.

Hungry Or Just Unhappy?

Losing weight is easy; keeping it off is more difficult because it requires you to incorporate an often overlooked factor: happiness. In order to lose weight, you have to change your mindset. You have to re-wire your thinking, change your relationship with food, ask yourself why you eat and, most importantly, you have to find happiness. One factor stands out among those who meet their dietary goals is that they are truly, intrinsically, happy. Be happy, and health will follow.

C.J.'s book, “WTF am I supposed to eat?

A dieter’s manifesto,” outlines many tips for a healthy diet, including the note to incorporate wine into your daily ingestion.

C.J. notes that a late night glass of red wine each night helps curb her cravings for unhealthy snacks that she might have previously reached for. "What I’m saying is that there is nothing in my pantry that I’m going to pick at nine at night that is less harmful to my weight and health. There are much more detrimental things a person can do in their diet besides having a glass of wine every night," she says.

If you stop eating after you've had your dinner and go for a glass of wine instead, your weight loss journey will thank you.

Healthy Substitutes Don’t Mean Weight Loss One misconception C.J. has seen from her clients is the notion that packaged, baked goods when made from healthier ingredients like almond flour and coconut oil somehow contribute to weight loss. Chips are chips.

Cookies are cookies. Bread is bread. Cereal is cereal. When you compare the calorie count, the glycemic value, carbohydrate grams, etc… they are often only slightly different. Instead, choose when you’re going to be bad.

If you want to have pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, have them. Don’t mess them up with some weirdo substitute no one wants. Enjoy them as they are meant to be enjoyed. Love them and get your fill. Then be done.

hen it comes to holiday dinners, turkey is the usual choice as the focal point of the meal.

Growing up, turkey was never my favorite part of the meal. I usually would go to the other end of the table to grab heaping amounts of canned cranberry sauce and grandma's mashed potatoes. As I started to get more into cooking while growing up, I kept trying to get my hand in the kitchen during holidays to try and help cook and maybe make something of my own. But once I graduated culinary school, my family let me finally cook the turkey. It still never

• 1 (15-20 lb) turkey, split into three (crown and two leg quarters) • 2 gallons water • 2 cups salt • 2 cups brown sugar • 10 cloves of garlic • 2 fresh bay leaves • ½ cup black peppercorns • 2 lemons

turned out the way that I wanted. But after a few roasted turkeys that turned out a little too dry, I have found the best way to get a juicy and flavorful turkey for the holidays.

Usually the staple way to cook the turkey is to throw it in the oven at a high temperature initially and then turn it down and cook it for hours. When the turkey sits in the oven for hours on end, it will tend to dry out. To avoid the dry turkey, there are a few steps to take. First, start off by removing the leg quarters on each side and reserve them to make roulades. Then, brine the whole turkey in a salt and sugar solution to tenderize the meat. And finally, when roasting the turkey, keep the oven at the high temperature, which helps cook the bird quickly and give it a deep, brown color on the outside.

A roulade is a stuffed and rolled piece of meat. Think of it as a Swiss Roll, but instead of chocolate, this one is made with turkey. With turkey roulades, you won’t be able to eat turkey any other way after trying these. The most moist and flavorful part of the turkey is the legs for sure, but then filling it with an herbed filling and then poaching it to slowly develop its flavor will bring it to another level.

Holiday traditionalists might go against not doing the same old roasted turkey, and not being able to see this huge whole turkey come out of the kitchen on a platter might be a disappointment, but hopefully this recipe will change their mind.

1 lb of ground turkey 3 egg whites ½ cup heavy cream 1 tablespoon fresh sage 1 tablespoon fresh thyme Salt and white pepper Butcher’s twine Plastic wrap

Preparation • Boil water, salt, sugar, peppercorns and garlic. Cool and pour over top of turkey, citrus and bay leaves. Let sit for 24 hours.

• Remove turkey from brine and let air-dry in the fridge for another four hours or until the skin is tacky.

• Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees. Separate the brined legs and thighs. Set aside the thighs, and add legs to sheet tray with the turkey crown. Put the pan into the pre-heated oven.

• Make Mousseline filling for the roulade.

Set up food processor and add in ground turkey. With processor running, add in the rest of the ingredients until the mixture is smooth. Cool.

• Assemble the roulades. Heat up a large pot with water, insert a thermometer and heat until it reaches 180 degrees (or, if available, set a sous vide machine to 180). Lay the thigh flat on the table. Spoon filling on top of the thigh meat (try not to overfill) and roll each thigh around the filling to make a tight bundle. Tie off with 2 sets of butchers twine. Then wrap the roulade with plastic wrap until airtight and twist the ends with twine. Add roulades into the water bath to poach for 45 minutes. Remove from water, throw away plastic and pat dry. To finish the roulades, cook with clarified butter in sauté pan over high heat. Cook until thermometer reaches 165 degrees.

• To present, remove cooked crown from the oven, fabricate breasts out of the bone and slice roulades into discs. Put both onto a platter and serve with a gravy.

We are grateful to have the Salvation Army as a valued neighbor and thankful for all they do in our community. We look forward to feeding the kettles as we enjoy the cozy, dazzling holiday displays downtown this season.

The holiday transformation of downtown Fargo is the result of the efforts of so many. The Business Improvement District, which is funded through assessments on downtown property owners, is the force behind the dazzling tree lights.

They also keep the streets safe, clean and maintained year-round. For more beauty, shop owners spend countless hours dressing their windows to delight you. They also create a steady stream of events as a continuous invitation to visit and enjoy your downtown.

Kilbourne Group’s role is to take care of a number of buildings that have been part of our community for a century and to build new spaces to accommodate the growing number of people who choose urban walkability as their preferred environment in which to live, work or shop. But beyond the buildings, we know that the magic happens when people take the leap and create something special that adds vibrancy to the neighborhood.

Take the Broadway Garage. Kilbourne Group purchased the site when Goodyear closed in 2015. We did so, knowing that it may be a couple years before we were ready to build a mixed-use, multi-story project, much like the one that existed on the site, the Fargo Mercantile Company, until it was torn down in 1966. Rather than turning out the lights and locking the doors, we invited the community to decide what it could be in the meantime. And the magic has happened. It’s been a brewery, a gallery, a painting studio, a theater and a farmers’ market… all created by local neighbors.

Another example is 225 4th Avenue North, the former home of a military entrance processing station. Nearly two years ago, we were fortunate to partner with The Arts Partnership to create a temporary project to activate the space for two and a half years. They immediately began working tirelessly and passionately to fill the space with artists and creatives of every medium you can imagine… visual arts, culinary, music, performance, healing and so much more. The result is APT, a creative incubator. It truly is magic what they’ve created, and you are invited to see it for yourself. The Holiday Art Market at APT runs from 5 to 8 p.m. December 6 and 13 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. December 1, 8 and 13. It resumes after the holidays from 5 to 8 p.m. January 3 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Plains Art Museum has a wonderful program called the Art and Business

Breakfast, which is designed to bring artists, business leaders and cultural leaders together to explore connections between art and business. In November, we heard from Peter Remes, founder of First & First, which is committed to reimagining historically significant sites within the Minneapolis and St. Paul urban landscape by facilitating creative and cultural experiences. After sharing that he thinks TEDxFargo is way more amazing than the Minneapolis event, he talked about the magic that happens inside their development projects.

“Buildings start to create their own life, their own energy, their own vitality,” Remes said. “Our goal is to create spaces that resonate with the community, filled with people and activity.”

We see this happening all over downtown Fargo. And there’s no time like now to come check it out. Street re-construction season is ending. All lanes in and out of Roberts Garage are fully open.

Construction activity is being contained within defined sites, and developers and contractors are doing their very best to manage change, including street sweepers, flagmen and barricades.

Construction will not get in the way of enjoying a holiday stroll through downtown Fargo. Add The Red Silo’s horse-drawn carriage rides on Thursday nights, and downtown really is a winter wonderland.

Downtown Fargo is open for business, and the trees are lit for you.

It is with great honor and pleasure that I introduce to you Kalley Norr: a woman of a thousand and one skills...I am sure she has many more. I tried to count but I stopped at a thousand and one!

Kalley and I met in the Fall 2016 at NDSU when I started graduate school. Immediately, I was fascinated by her involvement on campus and in the community. It is usual for people to say of someone, “she knows everyone!” But in this case, I can attest that not only does she know everyone, but EVERYONE knows Kalley!

Because she paved the way for others like myself who were new to the area to thrive, she is one of the reasons why I am as involved on campus and in the community.

This is something really praiseworthy because she came to Fargo from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota and once she had made her mark in Fargo, she made sure other new faces of the area felt included as well.

She is the ideal neighbor: a connector of great minds, a super volunteer of the FM area, a great event planner, a recruiter/inviter, a friendly face to anyone fortunate to cross her humble path, confident, a great host, a voice for many of us that are sometimes forgotten, a woman of conviction... I could go on and on!

She recently moved with her fiancé to another exotic state: Florida. Selfishly, we are not pleased with her departure, but we

are excited to see her spreading her wings to make an impact with her stellar personality in a new community.

In Africa there is a proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.”

Kalley will go far in life because in every stride she makes during this eventful journey we call life, she always includes the members of the community fortunate to call Miss Norr its resident!

The pastor at my church growing up once told our congregation that the issue with the church is that people come with a mindset of “what can this church do for me?” They become disappointed or upset when they do not receive and consequently will leave that church in search of what they feel they are missing.

He encouraged us to always ask first: “what can I give to my church?”

I came to the Fargo-Moorhead area in 2013 with the intention of spending one semester at North Dakota State University and immediately transferring to a school closer to my hometown of Edina, Minnesota. Five years have passed since I moved into the dorms, and my outlook on what it means to be a part of a community has drastically grown.

It’s easy to tell people to get involved, but I’d like to break it down into two simpler parts for those of us who find it difficult to just “get involved.”

And for those of us who don’t get involved, the places we live don’t give us the sense of belonging that keep ourselves, our students and our neighbors here.

My first piece of advice is to show up.

Show up for your friends, coworkers and for your community. Is your friend hosting a writing workshop at the local brewery? Show up. Is your colleague hosting a benefit? Show up. Is there a free event downtown that a local business is hosting?

Great, show up. Being physically present for those around you and for your community is one of the easiest ways to begin fostering a sense of place.

I’ve found that in the past two years since I’ve really begun to just show up to events, my perception on Fargo has become much more pleasant. I no longer hear myself saying, “there’s nothing to do here!” and when people ask why I’ve stayed in Fargo, I don’t question my decision.

This magazine is full of things you can (and should) show up to. You can even start slow, by showing up to one new thing a month that you’ve seen on Facebook or you heard about from a friend. I guarantee that you will wonder why you haven’t shown up sooner.

The second thing that I will encourage is to give a little. This doesn’t mean money or excessive amounts of time necessarily, but giving a hand as a volunteer, giving feedback as a participant in the event, posting a photo of the event on social media or even just giving those who put in their time and resources a compliment for their work in helping create the community around them.

I found very quickly that the moment I began giving to my community is when I felt ownership in the place where I live. I began to connect with the places and the people more than I thought that I could. There was excitement in seeing the potential for my own self to impact my community.

I was even able to achieve the label of “super volunteer” at the Red River Market.

I can only look forward to the next community that I will be a part of, and I am grateful to Fargo-Moorhead for giving me more than I gave.

I have two simple things for you to challenge yourself with in the next year: show up and give a little. And when you ask, “what can I give to my community?” I can assure you that their response will be nothing less.

Art and Poetry Workshop with Dr. Denise Lajimodiere Monday, Dec 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Inspired by the overhead electric power lines, specifically the parallel circuit lines that look like dresses, help create a sculptural poem with artists Denise Lajimodiere and Laura Youngbird.

Poems composed during this workshop will be embossed onto circular tins for a sculptural jingle dress. The dress will be built out of chicken wire and other materials. If you attend, please bring forlorn pieces of hardware that may be floating around in your junk drawer to add to the dress. e've all been there.

You have a vision, you know what goals you want to achieve...but what next? Sometimes all you need is a push from some likeminded individuals to help you truly reach your potential.

Stampede is a young entrepreneur monthly meet up here in Fargo.

Designed for the dreamers and doers who might need accountability partners, an honest community and fellow do-gooders.

Stampede was born on a late night where founders Dexter Dutton and Morgan Schleif ran into each other at the library. They had both recently gone full-time with their own businesses (Thunder Coffee and M.Schleif Photography, respectively) and asked each other how things were going. This conversation continued on and they expressed how they were both exhausted and inspired by the beginning stages of entrepreneurship.

After a long discussion, they both felt refreshed to get to share in all the learning curves they were experiencing and figured that they couldn't be the only ones needing conversations like these. Thus, Stampede was born.

Typically, every second Monday of the month you can find them in the Prairie Den, a Co-Working space located downtown. They meet from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning with introductions, followed by either a worksheet or presentation that goes along with the month's theme and closes out with questions, brainstorming and connecting.
