It’s Heating Up!
I
don’t know if you are going to believe what I am about to say. FM Spotlight has become a diverse empire and is about to blow you away. A year ago it was just FM Spotlight Magazine. Now we have a health and fitness magazine (FM Stride), websites with the same functionality as Facebook, and a mobile application for droid, blackberry, and iphone. With our team up to 9 people, and distribution at over 300 locations a month, our support and quality of the product grows every month. I can’t tell you how crazy excited I am! This is a dream to me. I don’t even use an alarm clock anymore. I wake up excited every morning to go out and do what I love. The best part being the community of Fargo-Moorhead is the reason behind this all! I will fight to make sure this community benefits from everything I do. Everything I have created has revolved around making Fargo-Moorhead a better place to live. We are plagued by the worst weather situations ever! Depression, alcoholism, drug abuse, and anger grows at an abundant rate each year in the winter. My desire is to reach out and help someone realize that there are some amazing ways to enjoy life, look better, feel great, and just experience happiness in this area. I can see it, now I want you all to see it as well! I will challenge anyone who is FMSpotlight reading this to email me with a time you have seen me look depressed or not full of excitement. I am blessed to have that ability, but it was not always like that for me. I have found happiness and want to show you the way. The first step is to become involved! Enjoy this spring, go away flood, get here sooner warmth, and cheers to you all. 1 year anniversary Edition

Pick up Line?
What is your favorite part of bartending?
My friends bet me that I couldn't talk to the hottest girl/guy in the bar…Wanna go get a drink with their money?
It’s so much fun! I love the diversity of customers. Anything from drug dealers to stock brokers! (Laughs)
What can a guy do to get your attention? Toast? I have known many and liked not a few, But loved only one, and this toast is to you!
When can we see you at fort noks? Usually I am at Noks from Thursday to Saturday.
Why Fort Noks? It's downtown, it has a patio, it's clean and classy and has a ‘big-city’ feel to it. Noks is a great place to socialize. It doesn't have loud music or just one type of crowd. You never know what each night will bring you.

Any new products coming out this spring? The popular "Jerimiah Weed" Ice-Tea flavored vodka launched a canned version. It is really refreshing and light.

Beer Hoegaarden Pour out half into a glass and Joke A man was drinking at a bar one evening. Every time swirl it around. Then apply the he ordered a drink, he would pull a picture out of his rest for foam. It tastes like wallet and gaze at it for a moment. "Old girlfriend?" “Fruit Loops!” the bartender asked."No," the man replied. "It's a picture of my mother-in-law. When she starts to look attractive, I know I've had too much."

BAND 24SEVEN
24seven Jason Brekhus Guitars & Vocals - Kenmare, ND
Joey Muchlinski Bass & Vocals - Jackson, MN
Jim Julsrud Drums & Vocals - Moorhead, MN
24Seven has been rocking Fargo-Moorhead 24/7 since the 90’s 24Seven has established themselves as one of the Upper Midwest’s most demanded cover bands, playing over 1500 shows since 1999. With a setlist ranging from Keith Urban to Kings of Leon, Outkast to AC/DC, and Sublime to KISS, you will hear a diversity of music simply not heard from other bands. FM Spotlight sat down with 24Seven to find out more. Go to www.fmspotlight.com for more! Favorite place to play in FM: Really? You’re gonna make us pick?! ;) I would have to say Spirit’s Lounge (Holiday Inn) or the M&J Saloon. Two great places to see a band. I just have a soft spot for those smaller bars. Much more, shall we say, “intimate”? Yeah, we’ll go with intimate. Why the name: When the band started in 1999, we were playing over 300 shows a year. It pretty much consumed our lives. That’s all we did. 24Seven music. How did the band start: Jordan: I had been in a couple other bar bands, and I just wanted to make a “supergroup”. I found the best bass player, best guitar player, and best drummer I knew. The original members have moved on to other bands, but I’ve always kept the philosophy of hiring the best musicians that I can find.
What makes us unique: We’ve always tried to be as diverse, and as true to the recording as we can. No style of music is off limits here. Country, rock, metal, hip-hop, you name it, if we like it, we’ll try it. Also, I think we have some of the best production (sound and lights) of any band in the area. Favorite part about performing in FM: All the friends we’ve made that keep coming out to see us over the years. It’s really cool to look out in the crowd and recognize half the people. Also, I love the comradore of all the bands in the area. We help each other out in a pinch. Everyone is family. This year: We already have 8 to 10 street dances lined up this summer that we are very excited to play. Also, we will be branching out our setlist even more. Some pretty crazy stuff, that I
guarantee you won’t be hearing anyone else do, is coming to the show! Promotion: We have to give a shout out to Boneskot Design for doing our shirts, logos, and posters. Awesome guys. Any band out there looking for merchandise, look them up. You won’t be disappointed! Also, Marguerite’s Music for hooking us up with the killer PA and light show. Website: 24SevenLive.com

Rick Williams
What Is DS beverages
D-S Beverages is a beverage distributer located in Moorhead off 1st Ave. We distribute products from Anheuser-Busch, Monster Energy, and over 15 other suppliers, brewers, and importers.
Any new beers to look out for this spring/summer?
1. Look out for Southern Tear Brewery. (Coming out with a Raspberry Wheat Ale this summer) 2. Boulders “Kinda Blue” (A really light blueberry wheat ale) It’s awesome!
Anything D-S Beverages Promotions Coming UP?
Yes, we are launching our “This is a Bud Town” photo promotion. Anyone can post a photo of themselves holding a Budweiser to our facebook.com/fargobud page and enter to win some great prizes!
What is a pilsner?
Pay attention to the temperature of your beer. To achieve full flavor keep your beer at 38 to 42 degrees. The colder the beer, the more flavor lost! Ditch the frosty glass.
Steak Drifter Pale Ale Bell’s Porter Red Hook ESB Michelob Amber Bock Seafood Widmer Drop Top Amber Ale Bud Light Golden Wheat Kirin Ichiban Landshark Chicken
A pilsner is just a “hopped” up lager. Meaning more of a bitter and dry flavor.
Shock Top Michelobe Ultra Bud Light Lime
Explain Wheat Beers?
I am sure you’ve seen Shock Top, Bud Light Golden Wheat, and more. Basically, along with barley, they use wheat in the brewing process. This tends to leave a more fruity and full flavor.
Beers of the Month

1
Traditional Bud Light with a hint of 100% real lime.

Cover Story
Del Hofer and the Fargo Harley-Davidson is grabbing life by the handlebars in their 50th year of business! Del, founder and owner has devoted his life to Harley-Davidson, building relationships and truly enjoying the ride! His motto, “Ride and have Fun, is a staple of how he conducts his life and business.
Website: fargohd.com
Phone Number: 701-277-1000
600 West Main Ave West Fargo, ND
Who is Del Hofer?
Fargo’s Del Hofer, Founder/Owner of Fargo Harley-Davidson, was born south of Huron, South Dakota. A farm kid until the age of 12, his family relocated into Huron only two blocks from a HarleyDavidson Dealership gearing up his interest in bikes. Del tells us about his childhood tricks to see the motorcycles, how he fell in love with the Harley-Davidson, his double honeymoon with the company and his wife, and the long open road that lead him to the 50 year anniversary of Fargo Harley-Davidson. Del Hofer’s kick start with Harley-Davidson:
“As a kid I would always intentionally drain the air out of my bike tires for a chance to get a peek inside the mechanics shop and see all of the motorcycles. Once, during one of my schemes, a big burley guy caught me and said ‘Hey Kid you wanna ride?’ I accepted and immediately was hooked! I rode for the first time at age 14 and two years later, dropped out of high school and bought my first motorcycle. In the 50s, like everyone else, I was drafted and had to sell my motorcycle. It bothered me so much I bought
first bike age 16 1947 Knucklehead
another Harley-Davidson without hesitation. When I came back from the military I began working at a motorcycle shop. The guy said to me one day ‘Do you want to buy this place?’ I really don’t really like motorcycles and I did. In February of ’60 I went to HarleyDavidson Motorcycle School in Milwaukee and that is where my wife and I took our honeymoon. When I completed my schooling I moved back to Huron where I rented a place for my Store for only $24 a month. I was a dealer in Huron from ’61 to ’71.”
“Hey kid you wanna ride?” Del’s first trip to Sturgis, age 17
Del Hofer on his favorite bikes:
“In all the years I have sold HarleyDavidson motorcycles, the 50’s and 60’s bikes were the most interesting. There was no electric start and you had to kick start them to get them going. They were very well made bikes but you always needed to be prepared to fix them on the spot. You basically needed to be a mechanic to ride.”
Del’s first motorcycle sold 1962 XLCH
Cover continued
Why Fargo?
“After 10 years in Huron, one of my goals was to have a “Nice” HarleyDavidson Dealership. Huron was not the place for it. My search lead me to Fargo. I called John Davidson, grandson of Harley-Davidson’s founder, and he lent me his support. August of ’71 my family and I made the move.”
What was your biggest challenge?
“The late 70’s and 80’s were the toughest years of my life. The bad economy lead us to diversify our product. We sold everything from snowmobiles to golf carts. By the early 80s it was almost a complete disaster and we were simply ‘surviving’. With 20% interest rates all of our money went straight to the bank.”
“...it was Brooks and Dunn.” How is HarleyDavidson right now?
“Harley-Davidson is a stable Ameri-
Del with his two son’s Todd and Kory
can company and we have an excellent product. We have a dynamite 78% of the big bike market. And in all of my years we have not come close to the quality of our product today.”
Got any funny stories?
“I had a gentleman come in one time looking for a motorcycle. When he was ready to purchase I went to my office and grabbed a sales receipt and ask what name I should put on it. He said “Dwight Yokum.” Also two more gentlemen came in and it was Brooks and Dunn. -- True story.”
A little Fargo HarleyDavidson History:
“When I started I had one employee,
1969-1970 Del racing
myself! I was the parts guy, the mechanic, the salesman, everything! Four years down the road I hired my first employee. We now employed 25. We have 139 different types of motorcycle options with about 100 in stock both new and used. We have the largest parts and accessories inventory than any other dealer around because of our longevity of business.”
Del Hofer on the future:
“Experience has given me a sixth sense and I can pretty well foresee what is going to happen in the future. We will continue to be precocious but confident in the motorcycle market and what will come out of this store.
Del’s annual birthday ride - February 5, 2011
Our refusal to gouge people for prices in ’02-’05 when there was a year long waiting list for bikes has paid off tremendously in support of our business.”
later, sold that baby a motorcycle. Simply put, we have the knowledge, experience and relationships to make us the best!”
Any perks for hitting the 50 year benchmark?
“January 26th Harley-Davidson Motor Company came to town and took myself, family and staff out to dinner. In July, Harley Davidson Motor Company is presenting me an award in Anaheim, CA. And August 10th I will be inducted to Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Rapid City, SD joining others such as Evil Kaneval, Jay Leno, and more.”
What separates you from the other dealers?
“Experience! Just write down the numbers 5-0 and that explains it all. For 50 years we have built awesome relationships. I have watched customers come in this store with a baby (actual child, not bike) and then 30 years
Huron, SD - Del and his wife Renee sitting on their bikes.
What is next, 100 year Anniversary?
(Laughs) “I just want to keep going as long as I can. Two goals I have in life are to sell R and F. Ride and have Fun! That’s what life is all about.”

Del’s Shout out to FARGO
“
50 years has absolutely been a wonderful ride. It kept me young, it gave me a chance to accomplish something I’ve always wanted to do my entire life. I never asked for help and accomplished it through determination. Life gives you an opportunity and you get out of it what you take out of it. There are no freebies and you should get up every day and accomplish things and help others.

DINING GREEK/ ITALIAN
Santa Lucia Greek & Italian Restaurante`
Fargo-Moorhead has been known for having a great selection of dining. Santa Lucia’s unique Greek/Mediterranean & Italian style restaurant is one of a kind in this area. Located in the heart of Fargo, north of West Acres mall, the Greek style atmostphere will ensure a memorable experience. We are pleased to include Santa Lucia this month as our dining feature . The best experience was the blast we had putting this story together! See more photos and information at www.fmspotlight.com.
Exclusive interview with owner:
Maria Wilson Lived in Fargo for 20 Years! Fav Dish: BBQ Greek Syle Baby Back Ribs Fav Wine: Amethystos Merlot
History?
My parents owned Santa Lucia before I was born. I believe one of the first sentences I blurted out, at age four, was “someday I wanna have my own restaurant!” I grew up in the business and it’s all I know!
What makes Santa Lucia unique?
The fact that it’s not a chain! It’s owner, operator, and employees are like family. We are all very passionate about giving our customers a unique dinning experience with food that will make their taste buds dance!
Signature dishes?
1. Chicken Sourlaki (Kabobs). This Mediterranean dish is cooked with lemon, garlic, and olive oil, making it light, tasty,
and healthy. 2. Award winning Pizza and Ribs. 3. Killer Gyros, which we make our own Tzatziki (cucumber) sauce for! 4. Greek Salad 5. For dessert we make everything from scratch including our popular greek yogurt.
What can we look forward to?
We are working on putting together a Greek style brunch along with family nights including belly dancers. Another fun tradition we are going to try is Greek Plate Breaking. Greeks believe when you are having a good time you smash plates to show that objects mean nothing and we shouldn’t care about anything when we are enjoying ourselves! “OPA”
Why should we try Santa Lucia?
People are smart with what they put in their bellys today. Greek food is traditionally considered very healthy. On top of that, our food is homemade with the finest ingredients and we are family owned with 20 years of business in Fargo. Our atmosphere is fun and welcoming.
What is that cheese that you light on fire? That is our signature appetizer called the “Greek OPA Cheese”. It is brought tableside and set on fire sending large flames into the air. This is when we all yell “OPA” which is Greek for “WOOHOO”!! It is very popular with the customers and when one table orders it usually means the whole restaurant follows.

What makes Bar Nine Unique?
Patrick Tweeter, Manager Where did the name Bar Nine come from?

Our imports consist of Guiness, Amstel Light, Harp, Kokanee, and Dos Equis Amber. We also rotate one tap line of craft brews with our beer of the month.
What else would you like the community to know about Bar Nine? --We are a pub style place where groups and individuals can enjoy the atmosphere, catch sporting events on our 55 inch LCDs, and still carry on conversations with each other.
