Welcome.
West Fargo is everything that is great about our region. It's a bright, culturally rich, city that is growing and thriving—and I think that's worth highlighting. That's why we put together this magazine to show off this city's unique blend of dynamic community events, flourishing businesses, diverse dining and shopping options, and inclusive family-friendly programming. West Fargo isn't just worth recognition, it's worth celebration.
In 1990, the population of West Fargo was at just 12,287. Now, it sits at over 40,000. The city has amazing gathering places like The Lights and the POW/MIA Plaza. There are endless recreation opportunities and yet, somehow, the community has maintained its small-town feel.
The city's parks and recreation department works tirelessly to provide endless inclusive, outdoor activities and upkeep their green spaces to ensure residents have access to nature and recreation within their own neighborhoods. The dining scene in West Fargo is equally impressive. There is fine dining, international cuisine, and everything in between.
Over our 14 years in business and over 600 magazines produced, we have made it our mission to highlight the best of the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo metro and this magazine is another evolution of that. We are honored to be able to make this magazine about such a great community and we hope you learn something along the way.

EDITOR'S NOTE
West Fargo
Born and raised in Fargo, my understanding of my neighbor, West Fargo, was almost nonexistent. The city was a bit of a mystery—virtually my only recollection of the city was what I saw on the drive to Veteran's Memorial Arena for youth hockey games against the Packers.
However, I began to learn the city a bit more at 15 years old when I finally earned my driver's license. With the freedom to move about as I wanted,
BRADY'S FAVORITE THING IN WF
Rendezvous Park
I absolutely love this disc golf course and have so many memories of playing
West Fargo became a destination for casual visits to see friends and a place to enjoy a round of disc golf at Rendezvous Park. This was in 2011, and the city was just starting to explode into what we see today.
By 2019, my connection to West Fargo deepened significantly after securing my first professional position with Spotlight. Finally having money in my pocket, I began to truly discover the entire metro area, West Fargo included.
GENEVA'S FAVORITE THING IN WF
Sirirath Thai House & Tati's Mediterranian Savuer
Three Lyons Pub (RIP) became a weekly fixture in my life for trivia nights with friends. And I began to try some of the amazing restaurants available west of 45th Street (hello Maxwells, Sirirath, and The Piggy BBQ).
And recently, I became a proud resident of West Fargo and I couldn't be more excited to discover even more about this amazing city.

In this magazine, you will find recommendations, for places, events, dishes, and more—many of which I myself didn't know about. Thankfully, I had my fellow editors to help. See below for some of our favorites in West Fargo and read on to learn about all of the amazing things this great city has to offer!
JOSIAH'S FAVORITE THING IN WF
Maxwells Restaurant & Bar
Not only do both of these restaurants have delicious food—my favorites are the Panahg Curry from Sirirath and the Shawarma from Tati's—they also both have wonderful atmospheres and such friendly staff. I love to peek at the dessert cases at both spots to grab a sweet
The atmosphere is great and the occasional pop-up food vendors make it a great place to have a nice casual meal with refreshing beverages.
When I want to treat myself to one of the higher-end restaurants in town, I look no further than Maxwells. Their blackened walleye is delicious and everything they serve is artfully crafted. If you enjoy fine-dining seafood, be sure to also ask about their catch of the day!

Western State Bank
Celebrates 25 Years in West Fargo
Three things you may not know:
1. Western State Bank was founded in 1902 as the Bank of Webster, ND. In 1968, the name changed, and the headquarters moved to Devils Lake. The bank expanded to West Fargo in 1999.
2. Western Equipment Finance, a division of the bank, works with businesses across the country.
3. Western State Bank has three locations in North Dakota and seven locations in the Phoenix metro area.
estern State Bank strives to be West Fargo’s hometown bank.

Western offers comprehensive banking options including checking accounts, savings accounts, investments, consumer loans, mortgages, and home equity loans/ lines. Local business owners turn to Western for customized banking options and support to grow their companies.
“Whether it’s for you or your business, Western can help you,” Oachs said. “We will take care of your everyday banking needs, and support your long-term goals and dreams.”

A Word With West Fargo Mayor Bernie Dardis
"The city has changed dramatically over time. I used to come to West Fargo when I was a student at NDSU on an academic and football scholarship," said West Fargo Mayor Bernie Dardis. "My college roommate was from West Fargo and he lived on Oak Street and I was from Killdeer, ND so I didn't have time to go home on weekends—instead, I would go to the Johnson residence for Sunday dinners. They were great West Fargoans and wonderful people. Being where I was from, I wanted that small-town atmosphere and small-town social engagement. My wife Louise and I found that in West Fargo and we've never left. I told the Johnsons during one of those Sunday dinners that when I came back to West Fargo, because I was going to leave for a year or two, I was going to buy a house on Oak Street. The first house I bought in West Fargo was four doors down from the Johnsons. I love this city and I've been here ever since."
West Fargo is Booming
Mayor Dardis is certainly right, West Fargo has grown tremendously since he planted down roots 48 years ago. In fact, you don't even have to go back that far to see the boom. Between 1990 and 2000, the city grew from a population of 12,287 to 14,940. By 2010, the population bloomed to 25,830 and now, as of 2023, West Fargo stands with a total of 41,595 citizens.
Mayor Dardis' Favorite Things in West Fargo
Lace 'Em Up - "In the winter, we have ice skating out at The Lights and there is great hockey there as well. Last year, they had 87 teams come through for the Winter Classic."
Sandy's Donuts"Sandy's Donuts is a great stop. Grandpa is a hit when he brings Sandy's to his grandkids."
Deaner's Diner"Deaner's Diner happens to be a real favorite of mine—I love breakfast and anything breakfast-related on their menu is fantastic. Deaner's provides me with an opportunity to run into so many taxpayers. I'll normally have 2-3-4-5 people stop by and ask a question or talk about a concern they might have. That's small town and I love that type of thing."
Maxwells Restaurant & Bar -
"If you're looking for something on the higher end or you're celebrating an anniversary dinner or a birthday dinner, Maxwells is second to none. The job that Ramon and his team do over there is spectacular. He's a very generous benefactor to our first responders—he's always asking if he can do anything for the police or fire department."
Photo provided by the City of West FargoWhat is Great About West Fargo
Small Town Feel - "West Fargo still has a great sense of small community—we hear that every single day."
Great Community Events - "The programming and content we do with West Fargo Events in our public spaces like The Lights and the POW/MIA Plaza are fantastic. We have amazing events like West Fest, our parade is, to my understanding, second to only one other community in the state of North Dakota in terms of size and attendance—that's great. Our programming also is very family-oriented."
Neighborhood Schools - "West Fargo Public Schools, which extends its boundaries into both Horace and Fargo, is committed to neighborhood schools. They want to keep elementary schools limited to about 600 kids. In these schools, when kids get into fourth or fifth grade, they can bike to school
The Future
"Our future will be extremely bright with the new flood protection that the Metro Flood Diversion Authority is building at the present time. That will give us an extra about 9,000 acres in our extraterritorial area that'll have flood protection. This
Rustad Recreation
Center - "The Rustad is fantastic. This complex gives a lot of opportunities for walking and a lot of opportunities for seniors in the area. And, of course, the kid's play areas are fabulous. The pickleball courts are also very popular."
and that sort of thing. We have the same thing with the middle schools. They have a formula worked out there where they want to keep it to about 1,200 to 1,400 at the middle schools and 1,500 to 1,600 at the high schools. The opportunities we provide kids in band and choir, theater and sports, and the commitment from the groups of people leading those efforts is terrific."
Trees - No, really, trees. West Fargo has been a major champion of trees. West Fargo has been a Tree City USA since 1984. Currently, the city has eight community orchards with fruits such as apples, pears, plums, cherries, apricots, honeyberries, ground cherries, red lake currents, and even hazelnuts growing. The goal, according to the city, is to eventually have an arbor in every neighborhood. Because of the city's commitment to urban forestry, it is approaching its 10th consecutive year of receiving the Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation.
What's more, the city has a tree deposit program for newly constructed homes located in West Fargo City Limits. This program is designed to reimburse residents for planting trees. For instructions and more information go to westfargond.gov
gives us the opportunity to grow, but it might not be immediate because a lot of that land is being farmed right now. If they want to continue farming it, that's great. I'm of the position that we won't do forced annexations. If they do want to annex, we'll listen, but there is a cost that comes with that development. So this isn't
Cruise Night - "Cruise Night is one of my absolute favorite events. At that event, I can walk the street and see 50 to 60 people that I know and meet another 30 to 40 people. I love seeing all of the happiness at that event. The food offerings are great and everybody has a lot of fun."
Held on the third Thursday of June, July, and August, the first Cruise Night of the season is set for June 20—don't miss it!
a thing that's going to happen overnight. We are also decommissioning our lagoons which opens up another 600 acres in the Northwest corner of West Fargo and about 60 acres are currently being developed for light commercial in the old stockyards."
Coffee with a Cop - "We have a monthly Coffee with a Cop event where we'll have different officers rotate through. The event is designed to allow citizens to interact with law enforcement on a personal level."
The Library - "The public library system in the City of West Fargo has very robust programming."

Thunder Coffee
Thunder Coffee is staple in the community, loved for both their flavors and vibes. You can, of course, try any of their roasts or unique lattes, but some think that Thunder Coffee has one of the best matcha flavors in the Red River Valley, and some just love buying their beans to make their own brew at home! Whatever you're in the mood for, don't forget that Thunder has a drive through you can sneak through if you want to stay in the comfort of your car!

They
Ladybug Latte
From inside a small drive-though, Ladybug Latte has earned its spot as a top West Fargo business. They know their regulars, they've mastered the meaning of quality customer service, and they make delicious, caffeinated drinks! They have creative and classic drinks, seasonal offerings, and more. One of their unique drinks is what they call a "zinger," a mix of syrup flavor, Red Bull, and your choice of optional liquid mix (some do cream or lemonade)—kind of like an Italian soda, but with some wi-ings!
"Before you knock it, you HAVE to try it. I used to get these in my hometown, and I'm so happy to find a place that sells them here. I love to get a berry flavoring!" - Geneva Nodland, Editor

Tati's Mediterranean Saveur
One of West Fargo's tastiest corners is found inside The Lights. Tati's Mediterranean Saveur offers authentic Lebanese cuisine and is praised for its fresh ingredients, herbs, and meticulous preparation. Some of the best menu items (in Editor Geneva's humble opinion), include the dip platter, where you can choose four of the dips (including the exceptional hummus), as well as the tea. They also have an excellent selection of wines, and a cooler where they keep traditional and tasty desserts.

Randy's Diner Too
One of the best local puns, in our opinion, Randy's Diner Too in West Fargo is one of the top spots for breakfast, brunch, and morning coffee. The pun comes from the first Randy's Diner, located on University Drive in Fargo since 1980, and since this was the second diner location, and it was called Randy's Diner as well—the name, Randy's Diner Too was born! Everyone knows that on any given weekend morning, Randy's Diner on University has a line out the door, but did you know you can jump on 32nd and head to Randy's Diner Too and find a spot at their larger, new location? From Midwestern classics to soup and pancake flights, Randy's is a staple in the FMWF area.

Take home your favorite fresh ground peanut butter!
JL Beers
Everyone knows JL Beers for their trick "feature" on the (made-up) Guy Fieri's Burgers and Brews, posting a photoshopped image of Guy in front of their West Fargo location a few years ago, but the large response showed anything but surprise—because no one would be surprised if Guy Fieri visited the burger joint, it's that good. Some menu hacks include an order of fries with cajun seasoning (a must-have according to some), and you can order 8 or 16 ounces of their Fresh Ground Peanut Butter to take home!

Being a local favorite, The Silver Dollar Bar & Flying Pig Grill has quite a loyal community. Whether they visit often for the relaxed environment, the live music, or (probably) the amazing food, you'll find the West Fargo restaurant humming with patrons any given day of the week. The Silver Dollar Bar opened in 1966, making it one of the original bars in the West Fargo community, and in 2013, the Flying Pig Grill opened and solidified itself as a local favorite. Bar Down
Opening inside The Lights development in 2020, Bar Down is a sports bar and restaurant for singles, couples, retirees, families, and everything in between! The name, inspired by the hockey term "Bar Down," signifies a goal where the puck hits the bottom of the crossbar, shoots down, and goes into the net—and how does hockey relate to this? West Fargo, and specifically the Lights area, is a hotspot for hockey families. With the ice rink at the complex and the neighboring West Fargo Sports Arena, along with the natural local, love for the sport, it make sense to for the sports bar and grill to be where it is. The ample space inside is family-friendly for mealtimes and offers a late-night menu with apps and pizzas for the bar crawlers. If you're looking for a fun place for bingo, head over to the bar on Thursdays for games, $9.99 steak dinners, free Coors Light, and $4 long islands—even in you don't "win big," you're guaranteed a good deal!

Deaner's Diner
Find classic diner feels, great company, and food that's guaranteed to make you feel cozy and warm, all at Deaner's Diner. The diner was previously (and some still refer to it as) TNT Diner, which opened in 2007. Since 2016, Deaner's has continued to make the space near Main Avenue a loved diner spot, featuring all-day breakfasts, patty melts, chicken strip baskets, homemade pies, and more! The restaurant even has a dedicated page on its menu just for omelets, like the Buck's Omelette, where their Mushroom & Swiss burger meets breakfast with ground beef, swiss cheese, and sautéed mushrooms and onions. What might make the diner so beloved is the community it's created, which can be shown by both the staff and the loyal patrons. Plus, if you ever want a good laugh, check out Deaner's Facebook page, you'll find posts like this one:

Freddy's Lefse and Nordic Kitchen
If you're from the area, you know Freddy's Lefse, and for good reason. The Nordic bakery specializes in hand-made, hand-rolled lefse—a traditional Norwegian and Midwestern delicacy. In operation since 1946, the business rolled out a new line of hand-mixed Scandinavian organic baking mixes in the past few years, including Norwegian pancakes, Danish shortbread cookies, and golden cake mixes. While this is a local business, they do ship all over the US, to all 50 states. But, you can save some shipping coin and head to a variety of local shops like Hornbacher's, Family Fare, Cash Wise, Prime Cut Meats, John and Wayne Meats, and more locations all over the Midwest and beyond (check their website for a full list). Did you know, Freddy's is the oldest and largest lefse bakery in the US? How cool is that!

Top Shelf Tavern
Self-serve service hit the FM area last year, and part of that "do-it-yourself" wave was Top Shelf Tavern—a self-serve tap bar located in The Lights area. They are constantly inviting live music artists into their space, as well as other entertainment like pull tabs, trivia, and more. You may not think BBQ when you think North Dakota, but you could be surprised at the award-winning dishes at Spitfire Bar & Grill. They offer wood-fired, smoked dishes that combine the taste of charred goodness with quality ingredients. They're back! 1/2 off pizza Sunday! The highly anticipated expansion of Junkyard Brewing into West Fargo introduced the West Fargo community to the brewery, as much as it introduced the brewery's fans to the developing and dynamic downtown of West Fargo. The taproom is a transformed 1979 building that previously housed banks like Bell Bank, and the new space merges retro-modern aesthetics with the brewery's distinct personality. The renovation pays tribute to the original building's mid-century design, like the main bar that wraps around an old bank vault, now serving as the beer keg cooler. They've got an outdoor patio area (complete with rooftop seating), three bars (two on the main level immediately upon entry and another on the upper level), second-floor seating that overlooks a two-story central atrium, kombucha, Junkyard's classics and experimentals, complimentary popcorn, games, pop-up food and events, and much more!
Junkyard Brewing
West Fargo
"My favorite thing about Junkyard West is that it offers another neutral space to the community, especially in the winter months. They have games, ample seating, and a relaxed energy. I would love to go there in the afternoon, get a kombucha, order some food for delivery, and do some work, and maybe even grab a brew at the end of my day! Also, it's huge—one time that I visited, the immediate parking lot was full and there was still so much seating. Junkyard West has some more breathing room compared to their Moorhead location, but the same great vibe!" - Editor Geneva Nodland

Things You Can Buy in WF That You Don't Need to Buy Online
Level up your hat game all season long (we're talking from summertime sunshine to "Christian Girl Autumn") by stopping into Lovely Lash Company to check out their Gigi Pip collection. You may have heard of the hat company, but after digging I found out some things about their company worth sharing—Gigi Pip's mission is to build confidence in women and the "many hats they wear." From using high-quality materials and processes to make their products, all the way to the metaphorical sense that they want to empower women with confidence while they wear what undoubtedly are many "hats" in their lives. The wall features a variety of styles and colors so you can find the perfect fit!
No matter how many times it fails, those of us with long hair know we keep trying all of those heatless curl hacks. If you've seen or tried the satin bendable rods for said curls, you know it's a game changer, and you can find a package of these right in West Fargo! Inside The Black Frame, a salon/boutique/spa/custom graphics supplier (they do a lot, in a good way), you can find these curlers, hair clips, hair towels, and a whole lot more!
Sensory toys and kits are all the rage—and for good reason. Sensory kits are curated items designed to stimulate the senses— touch, sight, smell, taste, and hearing—through hands-on play. They include a variety of textures, colors, and shapes, and parents love them as are tailored to engage children in a type of play that is crucial for their developmental process. A local brother-sister duo created the brand, Leika Sensory Creations, with sensory kits for kids, and you can purchase these kits and toys at Cookie Krums!
You'll find a small retail spot next to the mouthwatering cookies, so you can grab a snack and a kit, and head home to play, all while supporting two local businesses.
For those who wear bras, you might have wondered if it was a myth or fact that you should wash your delicates in a separate baggie... well, hate to say it but, you probably should—at least that's what Curvy Divas' Owner Rhonda would recommend! Good thing you can get a Garment Guardian mesh washing bag at the store! Your undergarments will thank you later.
This one is a little hidden, but if you know—you know. Inside Hornbacher's in West Fargo, you'll find the Hornbacher's Kitchen Shop in the middle, front of the store. There are a few isles dedicated to kitchen and cooking supplies (which is great when you need to grab an extra baking sheet when restocking on flour), but at the front of the section, there is an end cap that will catch your eye. This end cap is constantly being rotated and designed with seasonal items from the Kitchen Shop, as well as other gift and miscellaneous items. Any time you're looking for a gift, something to bring out next time your hosting dinner, or maybe just some retail therapy, this is a great spot to get inspiration and great quality items!
"Some of my best finds here have been a wooden cutting board and cheese knife set, a journal with a matching pen set, and a beautiful set of wine glasses!" - Editor Geneva Nodland
Whether you've been an avid reader your whole life, or you've jumped on the recent bandwagon of trending reads, you may be inclined to head to Barnes & Noble or the Target book section to purchase your next hard copy, but make sure you remember that there are local spots you can support while getting your fix! Head to West Fargo and check out Ferguson Books—where you'll find both new and used books of all genres, including those titles we all want to get our hands on by authors like Rebecca Yarros and Sarah J. Maas.
This one might be directly towards a niche audience, but Renaissance fair goers or cosplayers know how important the details are—and Mystic Moth Studio can provide you with the perfect accessories for your fit, including elf ears! Stock up on your crystals and grab a pair to complete your next fantastical look!
You may have heard of Beyond Running, or even visited its downtown Fargo location, but did you know they have a West Fargo location? And, inside that West Fargo location, they have a selection of running shoes that you know like ASICS®, Brooks®, HOKA®, and more, as well as some of the Outermost Layer items (the sister store that morphed into the downtown location). One of the best finds in this store—Patagonia clothing! When you're spending a pretty penny on quality clothes, it's nice to be able to see and feel the item before you buy, and inside Beyond Running you can do just that!
Looking to care for your pets? Check out Tropical Oasis Fish and Pets, a local shop for all things pet-related! From the world of bearded dragons to your cuddly companions, they've got everything you need, especially if you're looking for top-notch reptile care. They are stocked with supplies and products, including items from the brand Zoo Med, loved as one of the best in the business for keeping your scaly friends happy and healthy. The shop's experts are always on hand so you can find what you need, when you need it!
If you follow trends, you've probably seen the rise of athome dermaplaning online. This skincare process is a way to gently exfoliate the skin's surface with a small, sterile blade. It can remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz to make your skin smoother and brighter, and some say it helps with their foundation application. All of this is great, but most people will buy their razors in bulk online—you don't have to. Head to Lovely Lash Company to get a set of dermaplaning razors, plus they're made from recycled material! Also, because you're exfoliating and removing your skin when you dermaplane, you're creating an ideal canvas for serum absorption—so you need to make sure you're following up the process with the right skin care. Lucky for you, you can also find some great skincare products at Lovely Lash! Including the brand Leahlani, which has a whole line to offer you exactly what your skin needs.
Not only can you find some sweet hair care products at the Black Frame, but you can also get clothing items screen printed! Instead of trying to plan your design on a copy-paste type of online order system, customize your items with a professional to make them uniquely yours! Whether your designing a hoodie to show off school spirit or making matching t-shirts for your neighborhood book club, pop on over to the Black Frame for an easy and fun experience. Also... be prepared, because when you walk into the store, you may not be able to stop yourself from buying from their insanely cute boutique clothes—look at that jacket!
Cookie Krums Bakery is a new spot in downtown Fargo, and not only can you get delicious cookies (stuffed with even more goodness) but you can also plan your perfect party there. Skip ordering a set of party supplies online and stand out from the other supplies you can get around town because Cookie Krums has a party of different party supply sets for your next shindig! Including, the Party In A Bag—which comes with hand-packaged confetti, a card, a noise maker, a cookie topper, and, of course, you can get a cookie to throw in there! These are the perfect little kits to give out when you're not sure what to get, but know they've got a sweet tooth!
Sustainability has been on the rise, and that's a good thing, but with it comes the need for items you may be inclined to purchase online—which, kind of defeats the whole purpose... but don't fret, we've found a place that has a stock of refillable containers for all of your made-athome concoctions! Mystic Moth has a selection of glass spray bottles, droppers, and even empty car diffusers for purchase. If you'd like, you can work with the certified herbalist, Sunshine & Sea Botanicals, who stocks in-store products, to find the right mixture of what you need!
As part of Mystic Moth's local offerings, made by local maker Sunshine & Sea Botanicals, you'll find homemade elderberry syrup, crafted from ingredients sourced from the local producer, Cottonwood Bend Farms. For those who know, this flavor is a blend of woodsy floral and dark fruit, and has been known for various health benefits like immune system benefits, anti-inflammatory properties, skin health, and more. Head to Mystic Moth to get some that's locally sourced and made!
At Curvy Divas, you'll find lots of cute looks, including a specific one—for the mother-of-the-bride. Mother-of-the-bride attire can be difficult to source when you're considering fit, color, and price— especially since David's Bridal closed. Curvy Divas has a specific section of gently used formal gowns! These are in great condition, will be fitted to you, and, they are offered at an affordable cost! Don't try to order online to save some coin, when you'll be paying for shipping, hemming, and probably returning anyway! Also, if you have a gently used formal gown or wedding dress, you can bring that in and donate it to Curvy Divas for an opportunity to give a beautiful piece new life!
Take care of your lashes with a nationally renown brand—Grande Cosmetics, and head to Lovely Lash to get it (duh)! The brand is known for its infamous eyelash-enhancing serum, but it also has a line of other beauty products. You can find mascaras, brow gels, lash conditioners, giftsets, and more, all at Lovely Lash Company
