EASY STEPS TO SHOPPING FOR ENGAGEMENT RINGS AT
7Wimmer's Diamonds
When it comes to finding the perfect engagement ring, the experience should be just as magical as the moment you pop the question. With countless ring options and important decisions to make, Wimmer’s Diamonds makes the process easy, enjoyable, and stress-free. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the journey!
3 2 1 STEP STEP STEP
PREPARE, RESEARCH, & PLAN!
Before stepping into Wimmer’s Diamonds, think about how you’d like the ring-buying experience to go. Will you and your partner shop together, or are you planning to surprise them? Having a basic idea of ring preferences—like style, metal, diamond shape, and size—can make your visit more productive. If you’re keeping it a surprise, save any photos or hints your partner may have dropped.
START WITH A CHAT
Your journey begins the moment you walk in. The expert team will take the time to get to know your vision for the ring, learning about preferences, lifestyle, and budget to help you find the perfect fit.
EXPLORE YOUR RING OPTIONS
Wimmer’s offers a variety of rings ready to try on. This hands-on experience lets you see how different styles look and feel. You can also work with their team to modify a ring or create a custom one from scratch!
DID YOU KNOW?
You can create a Wish List at Wimmer's Diamonds and they will save your info for your loved ones who want to shop for you! This eliminates a guessing game for the gift giver, from style to size. Plus, it's not just for rings! You can add any type of jewelry to your Wish List. Dream BIG!
STAY TRUE TO YOUR STYLE
Don’t get swept up by trends, or do! Choose a ring that reflects you and your partner’s unique style and personality. Wimmer’s team encourages couples to select what they’re comfortable wearing, whether it be the latest trend or a timeless classic. They’ll help guide you to the perfect ring that aligns with your lifestyle and preferences.
BONUS! STEP PLAN AHEAD FOR CUSTOMIZATION
TRUST THE EXPERTS
Shopping local at Wimmer’s Diamonds means you’re getting a ring, along with a personalized experience. Their knowledgeable team is available to answer any questions and guide you through every step of the process. Plus, you’ll enjoy lifetime inspections, cleanings, and the peace of mind that comes with working with a trusted family-owned jeweler.
If you’re opting for a custom or modified ring, be sure to allow extra time for craftsmanship. It’s recommended to start the process at least 6-8 weeks before your planned proposal date to ensure everything is ready for the big day.
RING SIZE
Knowing your partner’s ring size ahead of time is important for the perfect fit. If you’re unsure, ask a close friend or family member for help, or encourage your partner to visit Wimmer’s to try on styles and note their size. While resizing is possible, it’s always best to have the correct size from the start to maintain the integrity of the ring.
DON’T FORGET THE WEDDING BAND
Once you’ve found the engagement ring, don’t forget to think about the wedding band. Wimmer’s has a wide selection of his and her bands that can complement your ring perfectly, whether you’re looking for something classic or trendy.
Shopping for an engagement ring should be an exciting and memorable experience. With Wimmer’s Diamonds, you’ll have expert guidance, endless options, and the peace of mind of knowing you’re making a special purchase with the help of Fargo’s most trusted jeweler with over a century of experience.
CLIENT TESTIMONIAL
MEET WIMMER’S CUSTOMERS
Aronah and Taylor
Aronah and Taylor both attended college in the FM area. Taylor graduated from NDSU with a degree in architecture and Aronah graduated from Concordia College with a degree in business. He proposed in September of 2020 on their 5-year anniversary, and officially tied the knot the following year in 2021!
Today, Aronah works tech sales and his wife Taylor stays home with their little one. But, before all that—Aronah worked with Wimmer's Diamonds to make sure their perfect day could be just that.
"Shopping for an engagement ring with Wimmer’s Diamonds was really a joy. Why? Simple, from the very first time I met Aaron, they had won our business due to their support, attention to detail, and friendly yet professional team." - Aronah
WHY DID YOU PICK WIMMER'S DIAMONDS TO SHOP FOR AN ENGAGEMENT RING?
"I visited four jewelers before stopping in at Wimmer’s. While each had their own strengths, the patience and
expertise displayed by Aaron and the crew were top-notch. Not to mention their wide variety of rings to meet many different needs."
HOW DID THE TEAM AT WIMMER'S DIAMONDS HELP GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE ENGAGEMENT RING SHOPPING PROCESS AND MAKE THE EXPERIENCE SPECIAL FOR YOU AND YOUR PARTNER?
"Before she was my wife, Taylor had a Pinterest board of her dream ring styles, colors, and sizes that I used as a cheat sheet to surprise her with a ring. As mentioned, I stopped into a few different locations before stopping in at Wimmer’s. Each location simply showed me some of their top rings. Aaron was the only one who took the time to ask me a series of questions around who I was and who my thengirlfriend was before showing me any ring option. That was the differentiator, he took the time to understand her."
WERE THERE ANY SPECIFIC DETAILS OR CUSTOMIZATIONS THAT MADE YOUR RING FEEL PERSONAL AND UNIQUE?
"Because of the attention to detail Aaron and his team paid on the front end, we ended up with a ring that my wife didn’t even know she truly wanted. The result was that she ended up loving what we chose more than any ring on that Pinterest board."
"I know my personal experience was with Aaron, but I’m confident to say that after meeting the rest of the team members, the experience would have been very similar. I’ve stopped back over the years to buy other items and have learned the team to be very kind, knowledgeable, and professional people to work with. As that continues, they’ll continue to have our business."
Don't take it from us, or even from Wimmer's—trust a happy couple! Stop into Wimmer's Diamonds today to make your dream ring a reality!

Aaron and Maris met for the first time in 2019, at a farewell party for a mutual college friend. After a year of seeing each other at various events, Aaron asked Maris on a first date to the movies—which Maris thought went well so, she skipped work two days later to go skiing with Aaron and his roommates. Shortly after their first dates, COVID-19 hit the United States. This may have been an issue if these two didn’t live across the street from each other in their college apartments. They spent nearly every day together from March to May of that year. From car problems to visiting Disney World, the years they spent together while dating were filled with joy and laughter. In November 2022, Aaron proposed to Maris in Duluth, MN, at Bentleyville Tour of Lights to make their love a forever kind of thing. Aaron is a civil engineer at a Grand Forks firm, designing and supervising the construction of roads. Maris is a special education teacher in Grand Forks, teaching at a local elementary school. In their spare time, Aaron and Maris enjoy cuddling up on the couch together, working on renovating their 1920s home and spending time with their two cats, Tink and Beanz.
The Day They Tied the Knot
May 25th, 2024
“May 25th, 2024 was a magical, unforgettable fairy tale of a day filled with love, florals, and laughter. It was everything we dreamed our wedding would be and the day felt 100% authentic to who we are as individuals as well as who we are together.”
- The Kemnitzes
Venue: Synclaire
We searched long and hard for a venue that would fit our vision for a garden party aesthetic wedding. Finally, our wedding planner Karissa told us about a new venue that was starting renovations. When we picked Synclaire for our wedding it was a trust-the-process kind of situation. But in our hearts, we knew it was the perfect venue and everything would work out. They ended up finishing all their renovations two weeks before our big day. We loved that all portions of the wedding were at one venue so there was no need for us or our guests to travel. The ballroom was so beautiful and we felt like we were in our own little fairytale. Overall, Jenna and Synclaire was an amazing venue to work with and their renovation turned out so incredibly gorgeous.
Floral: Love Always Floral Florals were a really big deal for our wedding day. Our theme, as Maris would like to put it, was a fairy garden princess party. Love Always made this a reality for us. There was beautiful florals throughout the wedding including a ceiling installation, floral arches for the ceremony, and a breathtaking bouquet for Maris.
Dessert: Bāk (Bozeman, MT)
My aunt Beth has a baking company named Bāk in Bozeman, MT. She made all the desserts for our wedding including a small wedding cake, tea cakes that were the same flavor as the wedding cake, chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting, sugar cookie bars, and lemon tarts. She did an amazing job with all of our desserts and they were gone by the end of the night!
Gowns: Your Day By Nicole
I fell in love with the dress my first-time dress shopping, but what really pushed my decision to pick my dress from Your Day was their willingness and excitement to help me customize the dress to my personality. Nicole herself took the time to help me design my
sleeves for the dress. I felt understood and like a priority when they were working with me to create my perfect dress.
Suits: Nordstrom (Minneapolis) & Halberstadt’s on Broadway
Aaron picked out his suit from Nordstrom in Minneapolis. We knew we wanted Aaron to wear a light blue suit for the wedding (blue is his favorite color). After searching we landed upon a sports coat from Ted Baker and they were able to accommodate and make Aaron matching dress pants. We picked out groomsmen’s suits and our fathers’ suits from Halberstadt’s on Broadway.
Hair Stylist: Beauty
by Malanna
Beauty by Malanna did my hair as well as all my bridesmaids’ hair. She is my normal hair stylist and I trust her with all my hair needs. She did a fabulous job on my hair and everyone else’s.
Makeup Artist: Sephora
I was going to do my own makeup for my wedding but while shopping at Sephora for a new foundation, I began talking to Kylee. She convinced me to come in for a trial after asking what kind of look I was going for. She did amazing, I was glowing and ethereal, and I loved it. So prior to heading to the venue the morning of the wedding, I went to Sephora, Aaron came with me and it gave us about an hour of down time together before the busy day began.
Wedding Planner:
Gather Event PlanningKarissa Kjos
She was more than amazing when it came to helping us find the perfect venue to make sure the day ran so smoothly. She was willing and so excited to help make all of our crazy ideas a reality. Our wedding would not have happened without her help.
Wow, I could say so much about this beautiful day! Every detail was so thoughtfully planned, every person there was so happy to celebrate the newlyweds, and the couple was such a joy to capture. It was a dream to photograph such a sweet, genuine couple and an honor to capture the first wedding at the absolutely stunning Synclaire venue!"

Q: Looking back, what was worth the coin and what wasn’t when it came to the entire process, why?
A: When looking back on the day and the process of planning a wedding, hiring our wedding planner Karissa was 100% worth it. Without her we would have never found our dream venue and our day would not have been run as smoothly.
Love Always Floral was an amazing vendor and definitely worth every penny, they were accommodating with our budget for florals, and they helped us pick every floral based on the aesthetic we were trying to achieve. They also did the complete setup and helped with the tear down of our event.
One thing we could have planned better for was the amount of alcohol purchased. At the end of the night, we had a lot of pre-purchased alcohol left over. I also felt like a lot of the signage I made went unused, we had printed quite a few QR codes linked to a shared photo album and we did not receive many photos from the day.
Q: Everybody says that you should have fun and enjoy the wedding planning process, but it is easy to get stressed! Any recommendations on how to stay calm during the stressful parts?
A: We would recommend just really leaning on each other. This day is about you and your partner and your love for each other. At the end of the day that is all that matters. It also helps to make lists and schedules for DIY’s waaaaay prior to when you think they need to be done.
Q: Can you share some advice with couples who are planning their big day?
A: We would recommend planning at least something for you and your partner to relax after your big day. Aaron and I did not take a honeymoon after the wedding and went back to work the following week. The day goes by so fast, even a mini-moon the next weekend, just so you and your partner have time to soak in all the joy and love from your big day.

We are Anthony and Jaci, high school sweethearts, who finally tied the knot after 10 years of dating. Anthony planned a proposal on a beach in Punta Cana in December of 2022, working closely with a local photographer to capture the moment. We both attended high school in the small town of Cando, ND. Anthony is a licensed addiction counselor, and will soon graduate with a master’s in social work. Jaci is a Registered nurse, and studying to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Outside of work and studying, we enjoy traveling and spending quality time with family, friends, and our 2-year-old red lab, Eva.
The Day They Tied the Knot
June 2024
“Our day was absolutely perfect. It was a beautiful, warm day filled with family and friends.” - The Wentzes
Venue: Pines Venue
Long before we got engaged, we always dreamt of touring the Pines Venue. Immediately after we arrived back home from where we got engaged, we toured both Pines White and Black and fell in love with the elegance and beauty of the venues. Ultimately, we chose the Pines black, which had a separate indoor ceremony room and an attached lounge and suite to get ready, along with a golf simulator, which the men thoroughly enjoyed.
Floral: Love Always Floral
They were so easy to work with and created the most beautiful floral arrangements. They were able to pull up our dream wedding floral Pinterest board right on their TV during our consult and made our vision come to life.
Videographer: Grace Films
We love their style, creativity, and attention to detail. We knew they would capture the special and fun moments throughout the day so we could relive them for the rest of our lives!
DJ: Fuze Entertainment
We could not have asked for anyone better. He was organized, and professional, and continuously checked in with us throughout the night. On top of that, our dance floor was filled the entire night.
Dessert: Cake + Cupcakes,
Nichole’s Fine
Pastry
We chose our cake and cupcakes from Nichole’s Fine Pastry. We were able to taste-test a variety of flavors, which were all very delicious.
Gowns: RSVP Fargo
They had a variety of wedding dresses for me to choose from and were very accommodating and easy to work with throughout the appointment.
Suits: Halberstadt’s on Broadway
The men picked out their suits from Halberstadt’s on Broadway. They took their time to make sure Anthony’s suit was perfectly tailored.
Hair Stylist:
Hide Out Salon by Ashley Mikkelsen
Ashley is very easy to work with and was able to complete nine beautiful hairstyles in just a few short hours! She is so talented, easy-going, and fun to be around.
Makeup Artist:
Artistry by Kimberly
Kimberly was able to accommodate eight other girls, as well as myself, and did a wonderful job. She was so kind and flawlessly created the perfect makeup look for each girl based on their request.
Jaci and Anthony’s wedding proved you can have a stunning wedding that also feels easy and fun. I adore the shots of the newlyweds diving into their cake at the end of the night!”

Serving: I’ve been photographing weddings solely in the FargoMoorhead area since 2008. I am looking forward to working with many more local couples in 2025!
| /abbyandersonphotographer | @abbyanders
Q: Looking back, what was worth the coin and what wasn’t when it came to the entire process, why?
A: The areas we were not willing to comprise on were the venue and photographer. The Pines Black was the aesthetic we were looking for and really set the mood for the wedding. Abby Anderson was also an easy choice for photography as it was apparent that she left no detail unnoticed. We will look back on these pictures for decades, so price really wasn’t a consideration. Two areas that we tried to be mindful of cost were food and decorations. Nobody is going to complain about free food, and the Pines Black was so beautiful on its own that we felt we could go minimal on decorations.
Q: Everybody says that you should have fun and enjoy the wedding planning process, but it is easy to get stressed! Any recommendations on how to stay calm during the stressful parts?
A: Start early and stay organized! We booked the
venue, photographer, and DJ about 16 months before our wedding day, which gave us plenty of time to get everything else figured out. We also kept spreadsheets with costs and due dates for payments. This made everything feel fairly manageable. Another way we were able to stay calm throughout the process was by securing vendors that we knew were awesome at their jobs. This allowed us to just let them do their thing, and not worry about the outcome.
Q: Can you share some advice with couples who are planning their big day?
A: Keep it simple. It can be easy to get wrapped up in trying to make sure every little thing is perfect, but at the end of the day, having friends and family to celebrate with is the most important part of the day.

We have grown up together over the last 12 years, and after 11 years of dating, we got engaged on the gorgeous North Shore of Lake Superior near Duluth, MN. We love to travel, be outside, and stay active! Shortly after our wedding, we graciously got to honeymoon in Italy, traveling to Rome and Sardinia. We had so much fun and ate the best food we’ve ever had!
The Day They Tied the Knot
May 25th, 2024
“Our wedding day was the best day of our lives, a long time coming, and a dream come true!” - The Brooks
Venue: Jasper Hotel
We chose this venue because we enjoyed the aesthetic and the fresh, authentic, local food from Rosewild. We are foodies at heart!
Floral: Love Always Floral
We cannot say enough good things about them! They are detailed and thorough, amazing to work with, and their service is spectacular. One of our most favorite things about our day was the floral!
DJ: Corey, Take the Leap Entertainment
Corey is so professional and intentional in his work! He helped ease some of the stress that came with wedding planning, and he is the best at what he does.
Caterer: Rosewild in Jasper
Our food was unbelievable. We were able to customize our menu to anything we could have ever wanted and it was so delicious!
Dessert: Nichole’s Fine Pastry + Crumbl Cookies + Triple Crown Sweets
Our cake was a vanilla bean cake with salted caramel buttercream frosting, we are still dreaming! Our guests enjoyed various Crumbl Cookie flavors and dessert shooters from Triple Crown Sweets, which were both a hit!
Gowns: Your Day By Nicole
It was the first and only store I went to! They helped me to customize my vision and make it my reality! They are the absolute best and their team is so sweet and very appreciated.
Suits: Halberstadt’s on Broadway
They were very professional and easy to work with. They helped me to complete my look with a velvet bow tie and loafers!
Hair Stylist + Makeup Artist: Cally, Wild Soul Salon
Taylor & Johnny are middle school sweethearts, as well as two of the most genuine and kind people. I was smiling behind my camera the entire day just being able to see their excitement and contentment in getting to spend the rest of their lives together. Their love for Jesus, each other, and for others is so evident. It was such a blessing to be a part of their wedding day. Each detail and decoration was beautifully and thoughtfully put together, and I will forever show their wedding as an inspiration for future couples!”

Q: Looking back, what was worth the coin and what wasn’t when it came to the entire process, why?
A: We believe all the wedding essentials and wonderful vendors we worked with were worth every penny! Looking back, we could have saved some money on our invitations and some of the little details of the day.
Q: Were there any “traditional” or “trendy” wedding things that you DID do or DIDN’T do, and why?
A: 701 Balloon Decor designed a balloon arch for our neon sign which guests used as a trendy photo
opportunity! Additionally, our grand entrance included introductions for our bridal party and the crowd loved this!
Q: Can you share some advice with couples who are planning their big day?
A: Weddings are fun, chaotic, beautiful, and stressful. It’s easy to blink and miss all the little moments leading up to your day. When the wedding day comes, don’t fret the little things, and remember the reason you’re there, to marry the love of your life. In the end, that’s all that matters. Focus on your spouse and take in every minute, as it really does go so fast!
RSVP Bride by Alan Evans is a bridal boutique in town offering a curated selection of designer wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and accessories.
When should I start shopping for my wedding gown?
Wedding gowns can take 6-9 months to come in if ordering. Make sure you have 1.5-2 months to get into a qualified seamstress.
How does bridal sizing work compared to our street clothes?
Bridal runs a little smaller than most street clothing, usually one to two sizes.
What is your cat’s name, and can I pet him?
This is not the typical question that most bridal stores get asked but we do on a daily basis. His
name is Kona. He is our blind rescue kitty. He usually loves our customers but as a cat is a cat; he can be spicy. He lives at the store and has since he was just a few weeks old.
Bonus: Do you do alterations in-store or do I have to find someone?
We have an in-house seamstress who has been doing alterations for our Brides for 20+ years. We don’t force our customers to use her but she is available.

We are Mara and Jarod Berger, recently married in June of 2024. Our story started at NDSU and four years later we got engaged! Jarod proposed to Mara on a cold December night… in a blizzard (very North Dakotan of him). Jarod surprised Mara by inviting Tomi Dawn Photo to take photographs of the proposal in downtown Fargo. We love going on walks with our golden retriever, going to the lake, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. We just got back from our honeymoon in Spain and are loving being newlyweds!
The Day They Tied the Knot
June 2024
“We would describe the day as classy, timeless, and truly the best day ever. We added a lot of personal touches throughout our day which made it feel super intimate.” - The Bergers
Venue: Riverhaven Events Center
The moment we stepped foot into River Haven, we knew it was going to be our venue. The layout, packages, and views are incredible. We loved the ceremony room overlooking the river. It’s very classy and fits our vibe as we had a black-tie wedding.
Band: Save Me CJ
We chose this band as they play the classic 90s music we used to hear every weekend at the Pickled Parrot in our college days!
Caterer: Chef’s Table
We have tried many of their dishes at previous weddings. A few years ago, we tried their Swedish meatballs at a friend’s wedding and it was the best wedding food we have ever had! Swedish meatballs it was on our day and it did not disappoint!
Gowns: Flutter Bridal
I went out looking in Minneapolis and landed here. I loved the workers there,
specifically Drew! He is from Moorhead, MN, and went above and beyond to help me find my dress. I wanted something a bit different and I felt they had such a wide variety of dresses.
Suits: Halberstadt’s on Broadway
This is the way to go. They help with everything for the groom and groomsmen. They make it so easy and are so organized with their process.
Hair Stylist: Local
Stylist Sierra Kasson + I Do Crew
I had my local stylist do my hair and then the I Do Crew help with the moms and bridesmaids. I chose my personal hair stylist because she knows exactly what I do and do not like. She is a friend from back home and I wanted to have her be a part of my day!
Makeup
Artist: I Do Crew
They are such a fun group of ladies who made the morning so special and exciting!
I am incredibly lucky to have been a part of Jarod and Maras’s wedding. Every detail was so thoughtfully planned and their vision came to life so beautifully. My favorite part of the day was the love that just exuded from them—for each other and all of their families and friends. Truly, this was one of the most joy-filled days I’ve ever witnessed.”

Q: Looking back, what was worth the coin and what wasn’t when it came to the entire process, why?
A: Your photographer is worth every penny. The moments captured by your photographer will last a lifetime. Having a band is worth it as well. Live music is so much fun at weddings!
Q: Everybody says that you should have fun and enjoy the wedding planning process, but it is easy to get stressed! Any recommendations on how to stay calm during the stressful parts?
A: It’s a lot to plan and sometimes can feel isolating if you’re doing it yourself. Just remember that the day is about the two of you and do whatever will make you happy. It’s hard letting all the other stuff get in the way of what’s truly important. You can also enjoy a glass of wine while planning.
Q: What were the standout vendors or products you found
that made your day memorable?
A: Kayla Cash is the event manager at River Haven. She was so helpful during the planning process and has everything set up/ organized for you the morning of.
Tomi Dawn Photography is the best of the best. You spend a lot of time with your photographer on the day of—probably more than your spouse! I love Tomi’s energy and knew spending time with her all day would make our day so much fun and special.
Save Me CJ, our band. We wanted our night to feel like another night at the Pickled Parrot and they did not disappoint. We had live music during our ceremony and first dances by the wonderful Zane Miller from Bismarck, ND.
Our officiant Aaron Jordan from Bismarck, ND. He is a family friend who did such a great job during our ceremony. He made personal touches that also moved everybody to tears.

Fuze Entertainmen is a professional DJ and lighting company based in Fargo, specializing in personalized wedding and event entertainment headed by Drew Boraas.
Can we give you a Do Not Playlist?
Absolutely! The last thing I want to do is ruin your night by playing something you didn’t want to hear. I encourage you to think of songs that remind you of an ex, someone who passed away, or any songs that would ruin your vibe/mood.
Can you describe your style?
On the MC side, I enjoy taking or directing attention where it needs to be. Making sure your guests understand what’s happening and when, without being over the top. On the DJ side, I enjoy mixing and transitioning music in a fun way. None of that awkward
Can we provide small services such as lash applications or just eye makeup?
Absolutely! We can adjust any service to their liking!

Videographers
When it comes to planning a wedding, photography often tops the list of priorities, but lately, couples in FargoMoorhead are turning to videography to add an extra bit of magic to their already fairytale-like day. Wedding videographers, armed with their cameras and creative vision, capture the laughter, tears, and heartfelt speeches in motion. Videos preserve the sounds and whispers, the subtle glances, and the joyful chaos of the dance floor, offering couples a chance to relive those often too fast-paced moments.
they craft a narrative, using their experience to highlight the love story at the heart of it all.
The allure of wedding videography lies in its ability to tell a complete story— one that unfolds naturally throughout the day. From the nervous energy of getting ready to the big emotional moments during the ceremony, and finally the celebration with friends and family, wedding films capture it all. Many couples hire videographers because they want to remember not just how their day looked but how it felt, and a good videographer does more than just press record;
Choosing the right videographer is a crucial part of wedding planning. Couples often start by exploring styles, as each videographer brings a unique approach. The best match is someone who aligns with the couple’s personality, understands the vision for the day, and can blend into the background to capture candid, authentic moments. And, of course, pricing plays a role too, with packages ranging from basic ceremony coverage to full-day, multi-video options that include everything from drone shots to heartfelt highlight reels.
In the Fargo-Moorhead area, couples are spoiled for choice when it comes to wedding videographers. Whether you're drawn to a handcrafted, intimate feel or a high-definition cinematic experience, there’s a videographer out there ready to bring your love story to life on film. How to Change Your Last Name
By Sierra Johnson, Paralegal, SW&L Attorneys
HOW TO…
change your last name after marriage. For many, adopting a new surname symbolizes the union and shared identity that marriage brings, but it often comes with a mix of excitement and confusion on where to even begin updating your name.
Obtain a Certified Copy of Your Marriage Certificate
After your marriage ceremony, the wedding officiant is usually responsible for returning the marriage license to the county office where your marriage license was obtained to be processed and certified.
In North Dakota, once the certificate has been certified by the county, the couple will either receive a certified copy of their marriage certificate in the mail or you will need to return to the county office to pick it up in person. Some counties require a small fee to obtain a certified copy which varies from county to county.
In Minnesota, you can use the Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS) website to order a certified copy. MOMS can also provide the contact information to the county office where you applied for your marriage
license to retrieve a certified copy in person or by mail. There is a fee for a certified copy which varies from county to county.
It never hurts to give the county office where your marriage license is registered a call if you have any questions about obtaining a certified copy.
It is important that each copy obtained is certified because many entities require this when attempting to change your name.
Identification Updates Update Social Security Card
To update your name with the Social Security Administration, you will need to fill out an application for a Social Security card (Form SS-5). You can either mail the application in with the necessary documentation (i.e. a certified copy of your marriage certificate) or visit your local SSA office in person.
Update Driver's License
You can update your driver’s license at your local Department of Transportation Driver License office. Contact your local office to inquire about the name change process. Minnesota does require that you have updated your name with the Social Security Administration prior to applying for a new license.
Financial Records
Be sure to contact each institute that oversees your financial accounts listed
below to inquire about their name change process.
•Bank accounts
•Loans and mortgages
•Credit cards
•Retirement accounts
•Investment accounts
Personal and Professional Records
There are a number of personal and professional records to update after a name change:
•Insurance policies
•Health insurance
•Car insurance
•Life insurance
•Vehicle registrations
•Passports - A good resource for obtaining information on updating your passport is travel.state.gov.
•Voter registration - Some states require voter registration so it is important to check with your state or county election office.
•Utilities and bills - Contact your utility companies (electric, gas, water, trash) and service providers (cable, internet, cell phone).
•Employment records - Let your HR department know about your name change so they can ensure your name is updated on payroll, e-mail, and other work-related records.
•Professional licenses and memberships - If you have any professional licenses or certifications (like a doctor, lawyer, cosmetologist, etc.) you will need to update your name with the issuing board or agency.
•Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and any additional legal documents - You may need to update your name on important legal documents like your will, trust, power of attorney, etc. If you are in
need of any assistance on updating or creating any legal documents now or in the future, please don’t hesitate to contact SW&L Attorneys at 701-2972890. We are always happy to help where we can.
•Personal email, social media, and online accounts - This one may not be essential, but it may be important to some individuals to update their personal email(s), social media accounts, and any other personal online accounts they may have.
Conclusion
Each organization may have its own process for updating your name, so if you are ever unsure, pick up that phone and give each institute a call to inquire what they need from you to ensure a smooth name change process.
There may be an institute that is not mentioned in this article that you may need to contact. Creating a checklist of every institute you need to contact and crossing each one off as you complete your name changes may help ease the process and keep you organized.
Lastly, never forget to give yourself some grace through this process. Congratulations to all of the newlyweds and those soon-to-be!
Preparing a wedding speech can feel like a big deal, but it’s actually an exciting chance to honor the couple on their big day. Whether you’re the maid of honor, best man, parent of the bride or groom, or part of the wedding party, follow these steps to create a speech that’s fun, heartfelt, and memorable!
Here are 5 easy steps to prepping the perfect speech
1. Intro
2. Thanks
3. Personal
4. Admire
5. Celebrate
Let's dig in
AVOID INSIDE JOKES: WHILE IT’S TEMPTING TO INCLUDE FUNNY MOMENTS ONLY A FEW PEOPLE UNDERSTAND, ENSURE THE MAJORITY OF THE CROWD WILL APPRECIATE YOUR ANECDOTES.
BONUS TIP! KNOWAUDIENCE:YOUR THECONSIDER VIBE OF THE WEDDING. IS IT FORMAL OR YOURADJUSTCASUAL? TONE ACCORDINGLY.
Acknowledge the people who made the day possible, giving the crowd a little, light taste of the tone of your speech. Thank the couple for including you, recognize the families for their support, and give a shoutout to all the guests for being there.
Example: “Thank you to [Couple] for allowing me to be a part of this special day, and to everyone here today—it means the world to have you all here to celebrate.”
Kick things off by introducing yourself and explaining your connection to the couple. No matter your relation to the couple, this sets the stage for the rest of your speech. Keep it brief, as this part is just the appetizer.
Example: “Hi everyone! For those
USE HUMOR SPARINGLY:
A JOKE OR TWO IS GREAT, BUT MAKE SURE THE HUMOR IS TASTEFUL AND APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES (OR THE AGE OF THE AUDIENCE).
BRING NOTES: EVEN IF YOU’VE REHEARSED, HAVING NOTE CARDS CAN KEEP YOU ON TRACK AND FOCUSED. KEEP THEM SHORT AND SIMPLE SO YOU’RE NOT READING THE WHOLE TIME.
This is the meat and potatoes of the speech, and your chance to personalize it! Some go the route of sharing a funny, touching, or memorable story about the couple—something that reflects their personalities and your relationship with them. Just remember to keep it appropriate for a wedding crowd!
Here are some examples: Maid of Honor/Best Man: Talk about how you met the bride or groom, or a fun adventure you shared that reflects their unique character.
Parent: Reflect on your child’s growth and how you’ve watched their relationship with their partner blossom.
Wedding Party Member: Share a short, sweet story of something that stands out to you about the couple’s relationship.
Example: “I remember the first time [Bride] told me about [Groom]. She was so nervous for their first date, but when she came back, she couldn’t stop smiling…”
CONNECT WITH CROWD: LOOKING UP FROM YOUR NOTES TO ENGAGE WITH THE COUPLE AND AUDIENCE ADDS A PERSONAL TOUCH AND HELPS CALM NERVES.
PACE YOURSELF: SPEAK SLOWLY AND CLEARLY, PAUSING FOR LAUGHS OR REACTIONS. RUSHING THROUGH THE SPEECH MAY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE KEY MOMENTS OF CONNECTION.
BE YOURSELF:
AUTHENTICITY IS WHAT MAKES SPEECHES MEMORABLE — DON’T WORRY ABOUT BEING PERFECT, JUST
PRACTICE WITH A TIMER: TIME YOUR SPEECH DURING PRACTICE TO ENSURE IT STAYS WITHIN THE 3-5 MINUTE RANGE.
THECONSIDERCOUPLE’S
JOURNEY: MENTION MILESTONESCHALLENGESOR THEY’VE OVERCOME, HIGHLIGHTING HOW IT STRENGTHENED THEIR BOND.
Grab the tissues—now’s the time to get a bit emotional! This second course is all about complimenting the couple as individuals and as partners, highlighting their qualities and what makes their love special. Keep this heartfelt but again, not too long.
Example: “The way [Bride] lights up when she talks about [Groom] is truly something special. And [Groom], you’ve brought out a side of [Bride] I’ve never seen before— one filled with joy, adventure, and deep love.”
STAY SOBER UNTIL AFTER THE SPEECH: IF YOU’RE NERVOUS, IT MAY BE TEMPTING TO HAVE A FEW DRINKS BEFOREHAND, BUT WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE SPEECH. YOU’LL BE MORE CLEAR-HEADED AND CONFIDENT.

12 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR DAY ONE-OF-A-KIND!
Whether you're going with a traditional-style wedding, something completely unique, or somewhere in between, everyone wonders if they should do something on their special day that stands out. So, we looked into some of the wedding trends happening to make your dream day, a little bit more you!
Multiple Outfit Changes
Brides and grooms are embracing the opportunity to show off multiple looks throughout their wedding day. From an elegant gown for the ceremony to a chic, dance-friendly ensemble for the reception, outfit changes allow couples to express their personalities and embrace the energy of each wedding moment. This trend keeps the day feeling fresh and dynamic, letting the couple look and feel their best for every occasion.
Tip! Want to pull this off smoothly? Coordinate with your wedding planner or a friend to help with outfit changes and keep any necessary accessories nearby for quick swaps!
Colorful Veils
Why stick to traditional white when your veil can be a burst of color? From soft pastels to bold jewel tones, colorful veils are taking center stage as a playful way to add personality to a bridal look. A blush, lavender, or even a deep green veil creates a striking contrast with a classic white dress, while still offering a timeless silhouette. It’s the perfect choice for brides wanting a pop of color!
Tip! Test out colors in natural light to see how they pair with your dress and skin tone. Bring inspo photos to your final fitting to nail the look!
Mismatched Bridal Parties
More and more couples are embracing mismatched bridal and groom parties, allowing friends to pick attire that complements their style and comfort. This approach creates a unique look that feels personal, relaxed, and effortlessly cohesive. Bridesmaids in varying shades of a chosen palette or groomsmen in mixed styles add visual interest and let each person’s personality shine while still looking picture-perfect as a group.
Tip! To keep a balanced look, establish a color palette or a few guidelines on fabric types—send mood boards or inspiration pics to guide your party without limiting their choices!
04
Timeless Documentation
More and more couples are looking for documentary-style, flash, and film photography at their weddings to move beyond traditional photos. This storytelling-forward method allows couples to break away from traditions and create a celebration that mirrors their unique personalities. Using film cameras to capture wedding moments adds a touch of nostalgia to modern celebrations and provides couples with a tangible connection to their cherished memories!
Tip! If you want this style of photography for your wedding, make sure you communicate that to your photographer—pull up your TikToks and Instagram Reels for inspiration to show them!
Flowers have always been a wedding staple, but 2024 is all about taking them to new heights—literally! Sculptural floral arrangements that seem to “grow” up walls, across tables, and even into the air are creating show-stopping backdrops. This floral-forward style transforms spaces into whimsical gardens or modern art displays, adding depth, dimension, and a lush atmosphere to any venue.
Tip! Love this idea? Consult your florist early to pick seasonal flowers, ensuring you get the most lush and cost-effective blooms for your chosen look.
Champagne Towers
This classy and chic trend is as pretty as it tastes. Incorporating a champagne tower at your reception or cocktail hour adds a touch of timeless elegance and sets the stage for a lively celebration. It not only provides a stylish means of serving drinks to your guests but also offers a perfect opportunity for a heartfelt, community toast to the newlyweds immediately after exchanging vows.
Tip! For an extra bit of glam, ask your bartender to add edible glitter or a splash of fruit puree to each glass—this creates a sparkling, colorful effect when poured!
Vintage Sweets
Couples have been increasingly drawn to vintage-inspired wedding cakes as they offer a delightful blend of nostalgia and timelessness that complements various wedding aesthetics. This style of cake, spanning multiple decades, can allow couples to connect with family traditions and infuse a touch of “something old” into their special day. Whether opting for classic white-on-white designs for a timeless black-tie event or more playful, whimsical cakes that incorporate your wedding colors, vintage-inspired cakes effortlessly cater to a wide range of wedding styles while adding a charming touch of retro elegance!
Tip! Moonrise Cafe offers Heart Cakes vintage-style cakes for order for weddings, birthdays, and other celebrations!
Head to Instagram @moonrisefm @heartcake.jpg, on their website at moonrisecafefm.com, or visit their downtown storefront at 111 Broadway N!
Personalized Content Creation
A day-of wedding content creator is a relatively new addition to day-of festivities, specializing in capturing behind-the-scenes moments through media like vertical iPhone videos, Reels, and TikTok clips. They’re a must-have for couples looking to uniquely document their special day with a fresh, real-time perspective that’s different from traditional photographers and videographers. These creators focus on authenticity, following couples throughout the day to capture candid, cherished memories.
Tip! Consider choosing someone online-savvy among your bridal party or someone who will be with you every step of the day to fulfill this role!
Mismatched Glassware & Plating
Forget perfectly matched place settings, couples are opting for mismatched glassware and plating to create a more eclectic, vintage vibe at their tables. Mixing colors, shapes, and styles of glassware and plates brings a sense of charm and warmth to the dining experience, making each table setting feel unique. This trend adds a dash of creativity and makes guests feel like they’re dining at an intimate, individually curated gathering.
Tip! If your venue doesn’t have mismatched options, rent from vintage vendors or check out thrift stores to find pieces that match your wedding vibe on a budget.
10
Families Sitting Opposite for Ceremony Reactions
A simple seating swap that makes a world of difference—by having families sit on the opposite side of where their loved one is standing during the ceremony (which, traditionally is swapped), they get to see the reactions up close. It’s a heartfelt way to catch those tearful glances, proud smiles, and genuine moments.
Tip! You can let your guests know ahead of time to avoid confusion if you’re seating guests by “bride” or “groom.” Include a note in the program or ask ushers to explain this when seating them.
12
DIY Bouquet Making for Bridal Party
Turn florals into a bonding experience by hosting a DIY bouquet-making session with your bridal party the day before the wedding! This hands-on activity lets everyone personalize their flowers and offers a relaxed, yet creative moment amid the prewedding hustle. Plus, the bouquets will feel extra special knowing they were crafted with care by the ones you love.
Mirror Selfie Station for Guests
Move over, photo booth—2024 has brought the mirror selfie station to wedding receptions! A full-length or medium-large mirror with custom decals, flowers, or even neon signs gives guests a chic spot to snap their best photos. It’s a fun, interactive decor element that guests can’t resist, plus it offers memorable snapshots that go beyond traditional group photos.
Tip! Add a ring light behind or a stylish backdrop nearby to ensure everyone gets flattering lighting! 11
Tip! Have your florist provide a selection of blooms and greenery with a quick tutorial. Consider adding snacks or a mini drink station to make it a fun event!
