DEAR READERS,
As a southern bunch, most of us are thrilled to be shedding
our overcoats and opening our windows. With this new season comes new life in more forms than one: the renaissance of spring time, the newly wed & newly engaged lovebirds, and personally for me, the birth of a baby!
How lovely it is to join the rebirth of spring by starting

a new life through marriage. We bring you these 92 pages of wedding and bridal imagery to help your engagement & marriage begin with beauty, resources, and inspiration.
Throughout the creation of this issue we’ve sought
inspiration from literature of the Modernist era, impressionist artwork, & modern coastal elegance. We planned each editorial shoot by looking at it through a lens of the new life created from both weddings and the arrival of spring time. These pages have been a canvas where we’ve expressed love, celebration, intimate gatherings, fashion and much more.
By the time you’re holding your own special copy of Volume
8, I’ll be swept up in motherhood after officially passing my baton to a new editor: Brenna Wright. While I’ll be gawking over my new little human, I can only imagine how much I will miss creating this content alongside the wonderful creatives in our city. 1 In a stock pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the celery, onion and leek and cook over medium heat, stirring often, about 7 minutes. Add the chicken stock, 1 rosemary sprig and a pinch each of salt and black pepper. Cook until the vegetables are very tender, about 12 minutes. Discard the rosemary. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the vegetables to a blender.
2 Meanwhile, bring a medium saucepan of salted water to a boil. Add the sugar snaps and cook for 3 minutes. Add the frozen baby peas and parsley and cook just until heated through, about 1 minute, and then drain. Add the sugar snaps, baby peas, and parsley to the blender and purée until smooth, adding a few tablespoons of the broth to loosen the mixture.
3 Serve chilled and topped with seared shrimp, a swirl of heavy cream and some fresh herbs for garnish.

livia and Stephen Brady struck the perfect balance of natural and modern for their big day. Flowing white
fabrics at the Bakery 105 rehearsal dinner were beautifully complemented by a suspended arrangement of palm fronds and banana leaves. The wedding at Airlie Gardens blended the soft pastels of the bridal party seamlessly with the bright, lush greenery surrounding the ceremony space.
With their wedding crest adorning each cocktail napkin and their name in neon lights nestled in a live moss wall, it’s clear to see that this couple really wanted to celebrate the melding of their families. The wedding crest, designed by Rose Kennedy of Rose Kennedy Fine Art, featured both Olivia and Stephen’s first initial woven together in a tropically-charged teal stitch. They pulled Stephen’s Cuban heritage into the rehearsal dinner with a Havana theme: fresh-rolled cigars in the courtyard and exotic flowers on each guests’ table.
The newly-married Bradys came back up the aisle together to a live gospel choir singing “O Happy Day” before popping a bottle to kick off their reception with a champagne tower. Under a cozy covered tent at Airlie, Olivia and Stephen danced and got tastefully rowdy with their closest loved ones until it was time for their sparkler-lit getaway. S P

T
hough Shannon is from the eastern US, and Christof from southern Germany, the two were lucky enough to find each other in Dublin, Ireland. Shannon
was attending Graduate School at Trinity College, and Christof was working for Google, and they bonded quickly over their shared love of food and culture. They spent several years falling in love in Dublin and visiting new countries before making the decision to move to Berlin, Germany together.
It was then that Christof knew it was time to pop the question, and decided the perfect time and place would be their annual trip to Ibiza, Spain. He coordinated with the directors at "Heart," a dining experience and nightclub, to plan a magical proposal combining Shannon's favorite things: food, wine, music and dancing! The show, which paired an Adrià Brothers dinner with a love-themed Cirque du Soleil performance, had a special finale that night when the performers delivered an engagement ring and microphone to Christof during the final act. Shannon was completely surprised, and overjoyed! The show quickly transformed into a nightclub, and they celebrated by popping champagne and dancing until dawn.
Christof and Shannon then had a big choice to make in deciding where to host their very international celebration. They decided on Wilmington, North Carolina, where Shannon went to college, and after several moves the place she still calls "home." Not only is Wilmington very special to Shannon, and now Christof, but they knew the hospitality and unique local vibe would be the perfect place to host their family and friends from all over the world.

n January of 2019, Mackenzie and Jacob took off to Southeast Asia for a six-month trip. This brought them back to the States
one month before their August wedding date. The couple trusted their parents and wedding planner with the entire wedding. “We told them ahead of time what we liked and then let them run with it,” says Mackenzie.
Spontaneity was no new concept to the then-engaged couple. When Jacob planned his proposal, the down-on-one-knee bit was to happen at a picturesque overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway… until they arrived at a closed gate minutes from the destination due to winter maintenance on the Parkway. Plan B was the Biltmore Estate, which led to another closed gate. Plan C: another overlook on the Blue Ridge. After waiting out the other sightseers, Jacob asked Mackenzie to dance until the moment felt just right to ask her to be his wife. 82 FOTC WEDDINGS
Jeff Bryant with Design Perfection surprised the Webbers with the live wall as a photo backdrop and the flower canopy above the head table in the Brooklyn Arts Center. Design Perfection incorporated the soft peaches and cream color scheme from the couple’s invitations and the bridal party into the floral installations, punctuated with lush green and pure white accents. “We walked into the venue and had no idea what to expect. hen planning their wedding, Ryan and George knew it had to happen in New Bern. An idyllic spring day with family and friends surrounded by the Neuse and
Trent Rivers mixed with Ryan’s sentiments about her hometown to create the perfect place to promise forever.
Ryan and George chose the New Bern Golf & Country Club for their reception spot, and couldn’t have been more pleased. Patrick Dill and his staff at the club took every change in stride and provided the couple with a beautifully manicured reception space, which Zena and Mel of Knot a Second Thought Florals decked out in floral installations that left the couple speechless.
Although Ryan says every vendor they trusted with part of their big day went above and beyond, Jessica Brass of Common Dove Photography got a special recommendation— “Seriously, if you’re reading this, book her now!”—thanks to her effortless and charming rapport with Ryan and George that began at their engagement shoot and only grew better as they met again for day-of photos.
Slower paced than nearby Wilmington, the riverfront city known for its historic homes and gardens provided the ideal backdrop for Ryan and George’s wedding. The Thornes loved the quiet moments afforded by a small-town venue, allowing them the time to catch up with friends and family on the biggest day of their lives. by Olivia Clifton
