GCCI LOGISTICS COMMITTEE VISITS MANOHAR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, MOPA

On June 12, 2024, the GCCI Logistics Committee, chaired by M r C h a n d r a k a n t G a w a s , organized a field visit to Manohar International Airport, Mopa. The visit aimed to understand the facilities available at the airport for logistics stakeholders from Goa. Notable attendees included Mr Devayu Chowgule, CoChairman of the GCCI Logistics Committee; Mr. Goutam Raj, Chairman of the GCCI Industrial & Manufacturing Development Committee; Mr. Nitin Desai, CoChairman of the GCCI Industrial & Manufacturing Development Committee; Mr. Gerard D'Mello, C h a i r m a n o f t h e G C C I Infrastructure Committee; Mr. Kiran Ballikar, Director of GCCI; and Mr. Sanket Kaskar, Foreign Trade Officer of GCCI.

During the visit, the GMR Goa Cargo team provided an overview of the current and upcoming infrastructure The Air Cargo Complex at Mopa (ACC-Mopa) has the capacity to handle 25,000 MT of cargo per annum, with potential expansion to

100,000 MT. Strategically located near the borders of Maharashtra and Karnataka, this airport is poised to serve these states in addition to Goa, making it the second-largest air cargo hub in Western India. The cargo volume at Mopa has significantly i n c r e a s e d , w i t h m a n y pharmaceutical companies from Goa and Mumbai validating the facility and initiating cargo movements. Industries have noted that Mopa (GOX) offers costeffective and efficient operations compared to other major Indian airports, thanks to advanced technology and modern handling processes. Since commencing operations on September 8, 2023, GOX has handled approximately 5,000 MT of air cargo through airlines such as Air India, Oman Air, Indigo, Akasa, Vistara, and Spice Jet. As Goa is a pharmaceutical hub with major exports to the USA, the anticipated shift of Qatar Airways to Mopa will greatly benefit local trade. This shift will reduce the need for 15 to 24 hours of road

transport, saving exporters between Rs 20,000 and Rs 35,000 per 3 MT by avoiding diversions to Mumbai (BOM) or Bangalore (BLR).

The current global logistics challenges, such as the Red Sea embargo, have led to increased airfreight rates and limited capacity, forcing manufacturers to resort to road feeder services (RFS) to Delhi, which incurs high costs and increases transit time and risk. Mr. Chandrakant Gawas emphasized that using GOX as a gateway will offer significant l o g i s t i c a l a d v a n t a g e s , encouraging industries in Goa and its surrounding areas to capitalize on these benefits.

The GMR team also highlighted t h e e s t a b l i s h m e n t o f a consolidation center, which currently supports manufacturers in Verna Industrial Estate. Operating once daily with an initial volume of 50 MT, the frequency of this service is expected to increase with demand This facility will eventually extend to other

industrial areas within Goa's catchment region.

The GMR team briefed the attendees on the extensive infrastructure and support a v a i l a b l e a t M a n o h a r International Airport (ACC) Air Cargo Complex, under the management of GMR Airports Limited.

Jonathan Pinto, a dynamic second-generation entrepreneur, is at the helm of Buzz Events, G o a ’ s p r e m i e r e v e n t management company. Founded two decades ago by his father, Mr. Jerry Pinto, the company has grown into a dominant force in the industry, specialising in bespoke weddings, major corporate events, and award shows. Jonathan is now leading the charge with innovative ideas and extensive expansion plans, propelling Buzz Events to new heights. In an exclusive interview, Jonathan shared insights into his journey in the event management field and his visionary plans for the future of the family business.

Jonathan completed his early education at Rosary High School and continued his secondary education at Don Bosco School in Panaji. "I started at Don Bosco in the 7th grade and completed my 12th grade there before pursuing an Integrated MBA course at Goa University, which played a crucial role in shaping who I am today," he shared. Jonathan was part of the second batch of this newly introduced program at Goa University.

"I learned a lot during this course, but the most significant lesson was managing various business domains, including production, post-production, obtaining quotes, and handling contracts. T h e s u b j e c t s w e r e h i g h l y practical, covering areas such as Hospitality, Human Resources, Marketing, and other business-

oriented topics that equipped me f o r a c a r e e r i n e v e n t management," he added.

According to Jonathan, his father, Jerry Pinto, founded Buzz Events 18 years ago. "I began getting involved in the business around seven years ago, " he shared, noting that this was during his final years of study. "I managed t h e w o r k p a r t - t i m e w h i l e completing my studies," he added. One of Jonathan's early contributions to the business was the introduction of the photo booth concept, which was a novelty in Goa at the time. "The photo booth concept was not only new to Goa but also very instant, attracting many, " he explained The entire process, from taking the picture to printing it, took only a couple of minutes. "The machine could complete the whole process in a fraction of a minute," he said.

Jonathan was inspired to bring this idea to life after seeing it in a movie. "In Goa, this idea was very unique, and we were pioneers in implementing it. The idea did very well, and I quickly recovered my entire investment. It was my first venture into the business, and its

food. "As a family, we are very food-oriented, and there is nothing like food to start a conversation and create a bond between people. Memories are built from and around food, a passion we all share. My younger brother Craig decided to take this forward and transformed it into a business in the form of a restaurant," he explained. Jonathan's personal journey into the practical world of business began with an internship at Grand Hyatt Goa. "I was in the F&B section at the back of the hotel, where I learned a lot. From F&B, I moved to the front office and then to the VIP section, which is a grand club lounge. Within a couple of months, I got my name on the Medalia Rating system, which was a great achievement," he said.

grand success encouraged me to take on bigger responsibilities in life," he recounted.

Jonathan was always clear about his future plans and knew he wanted to enter the business world, following in his father's footsteps "I didn't know the s p e c i f i c s w h a t , h o w , o r when—but I was certain that I wanted to get into business," he said As he continued, he explained how things gradually fell into place. "The main reason behind pursuing my MBA was my orientation towards business I a l s o b e l i e v e i n p r a c t i c a l knowledge, so I started working. However, my dad was against my plans and insisted I finish my studies first before diving into the business."

Jonathan emphasised that there was no pressure from his family to join the family business. "My father always wanted me to complete my studies before getting into the business. From the beginning, I had a passion for photography, which inspired the idea of the photo booth," he added.

According to Jonathan, his family has always had a deep love for

However, the hospitality industry did not hold his interest for long. "I never found it challenging enough, and that led me back home to our family business of event management," he added. Upon joining the family event company, Jonathan quickly realised the immense creativity required for success. "We are in the business of destination weddings and conferences, which demand a lot of creative work. Social media is a significant driver for our business, and we're grateful for that. Today's destination weddings are on another level, with everyone seeking that 'movie moment.' The major challenge is creativity, but for me, it was child's play as creativity has always been a part of my work. This began to show in my presentations, and that creativity helped me build my name in the event market I created my own identity in a very short span of time, with all the support from my father."

Jonathan describes the event business as one of the most challenging fields. “It's very stressful, with little sleep and family time, and no work-life balance. However, when a bride or groom tells you that you ' ve made their dream day come true, that feeling keeps us going."

Discussing the challenges faced

and how he overcame them, Jonathan emphasised the intense competition in the event industry. "Challenges shape who we are. I've faced many challenges and overcome them with a neverg i v e - u p a t t i t u d e a n d persistence." He recounted a specific incident where a prestigious five-star property in G o a e x c l u s i v e l y f a v o u r e d competitors. "I wanted to break into that territory but didn't know how. When someone pointed out the elements our presentations lacked compared to competitors, I decided to break that barrier w i t h s o m e t h i n g u n i q u e I revamped our approach in design, costing, and concept, and finally secured the biggest wedding contract from that property. Through this exercise, even the hotel recognized our capacity, and today, that property is one of our closest and biggest clients."

Speaking on his future plans, Jonathan revealed his focus on targeting corporate events and destination weddings in Goa. "My future plan is to scale up our production capacity Since we own most of the elements needed in this industry, scaling up will allow us to manage multiple events in a day and capture events on a much larger scale, both within and outside the state. Our primary advantage over the competition is our in-house production capabilities, which many event companies in Goa lack. We own a lot of production assets, like décor production parts and signature props. I plan to expand this inventory to cater to bigger markets and demands." Jonathan also highlighted the importance of governmental support in achieving these goals. " T h e s u p p o r t o f t h e G o a government can help local production companies scale up, particularly by assisting with the c o s t s o f w a r e h o u s i n g . Additionally, there's a need for an event management institute in the state to address the shortage of trained manpower If these aspects are taken care of, the event industry in Goa will boom," he concluded.

Shravani Gaude celebrated as Goa’s premier netball player, stands out as the sole Goan athlete to have represented her state in three distinct sports at the national level. As Goa embarked on its women's netball campaign at the 37th National Games, Shravani brought her exceptional talent and experience to the f o r e f r o n t , h a v i n g a l r e a d y showcased her prowess in Kabaddi and Lagori at the national stage. Intrigued by her r e m a r k a b l e j o u r n e y a n d unwavering passion for sports, I had the privilege of meeting her to delve into her experiences, her inspiring journey, and her aspirations for the future. Here a r e t h e h i g h l i g h t s o f o u r conversation.

Shravani Gaude, daughter of the esteemed Art & Culture Minister Shri Govind Gaude, who also oversees the sports ministry in the state cabinet, attributes her impressive achievements to relentless dedication and hard work. Her journey into the realm of sports began in the 5th grade, spurred on by her PE teacher who recognized her potential and encouraged her to participate in various sports activities. Shravani swiftly excelled, representing her school in Kho Kho and Kabaddi. By the 6th grade, she seized the opportunity to compete at the national level in Lagori, a traditional Indian game known as

Seven Stones, historically referenced in ancient texts and cherished across generations. Lagori, deeply rooted in Indian culture, embodies more than just a g a m e i t s y m b o l i s e s camaraderie and strategic thinking, fostering physical a c t i v i t y a n d t e a m w o r k , particularly during festivals and community gatherings.

The contemporary version of Lagori played at national and international levels has evolved from its traditional roots as a children's game. "Nowadays, we use a set of 9 pieces of Lagori for competitive play," explains S h r a v a n i , d e t a i l i n g t h e modifications. In this version, one stone is designated as the queen, and teams of six players each compete on a court. Despite these updates, the core rules of breaking the Lagori structure and using a ball remain unchanged. Shravani reflects on her early experiences with Lagori, recalling her first national competition during the 7th grade in Punjab. "It was quite an experience for me," she shares. Although she did not participate in the initial nationals, her breakthrough came in Jaipur during the second nationals, where she competed in every

transition to another sport,

Reflecting on her shift, she n o t e d , " I c o u l d n ' t participate in the 37th National Games held in Goa for Lagori as I had already switched to the Netball team, but Goa secured the bronze medal this time." Comparing Netball to basketball, S h r a v a n i h i g h l i g h t e d k e y

d i f f e r e n c e s , s t a t i n g , " I n basketball, players can dribble and move freely, whereas in Netball, dribbling is not allowed. Moreover, a player cannot hold onto the ball for more than 3 seconds after receiving it Additionally, the net in Netball is positioned higher than in basketball, emphasising the importance of precision due to the smaller diameter of the basket."

Shravani's journey showcases her adaptability and determination as she embraces new challenges in the world of sports, contributing significantly to Goa's athletic achievements.

Discussing her transition from Lagori to Netball, Shravani recounted a pivotal moment during her 11th grade at GVM Higher Secondary School when a friend informed her about the state championship in Netball. "At that time, I was in Mumbai, attending the Women's FIFA World Cup finals for under seventeen,"

she recalled "I wasn't familiar with Netball, so I researched it online, which immediately captured my interest, prompting me to commit to the sport."

Upon returning home, Shravani wasted no time and began training rigorously. "My coach, Sandeep Naik, guided me through the fundamentals of Netball, and our entire team was new to the game," she explained. With just twenty days of preparation, the team geared up for the state championship held in Margao

Despite their novice status, Shravani's team advanced to the finals against Almeida High School, where they encountered intense competition. "During the finals, we faced challenges, including an injury to one of our players, which pushed all of us out of the game momentarily," she r e c o u n t e d " W i t h t h e responsibility falling on me to score, I managed to hit the bullseye, earning the title of the tournament's best shooter. We c l i n c h e d o u r f i r s t s t a t e championship, achieving this feat w i t h o n l y t w e n t y d a y s o f practice."

Shravani's journey exemplifies resilience and determination, highlighting her swift adaptation and exceptional performance in Netball, ultimately contributing to her team's remarkable success in the state championship.

Following her victory in the state championship, Shravani set her sights on the national stage in Netball. "I filled out the form for the national championship and began intensive practice," she explained. With only three months to prepare before the nationals, the team committed themselves to rigorous training.

However, their journey faced a setback just before the nationals.

" W e h a d a n o t h e r s t a t e championship for selection, where we secured the silver medal," Shravani recounted.

"Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we couldn't replicate our success at the national level and returned empty-handed this time."

Despite the disappointment, Shravani's determination and

commitment to excel in Netball continue to drive her forward, reflecting her resilience in the face of challenges.

In addition to her athletic pursuits, Shravani Gaude harbours a deep interest in the medical field and is currently preparing for the NEET examinations with aspirations of becoming a doctor. Reflecting on her academic journey, Shravani humbly admitted, "I don't consider myself the most studious person, but I believe in my ability to overcome challenges." Balancing her studies alongside sports has been a rewarding experience for her thus far.

Looking ahead to her future in m e d i c i n e , S h r a v a n i acknowledged the potential shift in priorities. "If I am selected for medical school, I understand I may not have as much time for sports," she acknowledged "However, maintaining fitness is crucial to me, even more so than sports itself. I am committed to finding a balance and ensuring that physical well-being remains a top priority."

I n c o n c l u s i o n , S h r a v a n i emphasised the importance of p u r s u i n g o n e ' s p a s s i o n wholeheartedly. "If you have the passion and capability, there's nothing you cannot achieve," she asserted. Encouraging others to strive for excellence, she urged, "Give your best shot, aim for championships, national and international levels, and forge a career from it." Reflecting on her own journey, Shravani expressed gratitude for the transformative role sports played in her life "Having sports in your life is an honour," she declared, noting the accolades and recognition it brought her. GAURANG AMDEKAR'S KETTLEBELL TRIUMPHS AND DREAMS IN GOA

Amid the serene beaches and vibrant culture of Goa, a new s p o r t s h e r o h a s emerged Gaurang Amdekar Recently securing second place at the prestigious World Kettlebell Sport Federation (WKSF) 2024 C h a m p i o n s h i p i n P o l a n d , Gaurang's journey is a testament to relentless determination and passion. Kettlebell sport, a demanding discipline that requires athletes to perform continuous lifts like the clean and jerk for up to 30 minutes, tests the very limits of endurance, strength, and technique The WKSF represents the pinnacle of this challenging sport, and Gaurang’s ascent to the top ranks showcases his extraordinary dedication From his roots in Mumbai to his transformative life in Goa, Gaurang Amdekar’s story is one of grit, sacrifice, and triumph on the global stage.

Born and raised in Mumbai, Gaurang completed his schooling at Chogle High School in Borivali East and graduated with a B.Sc. from ML Dahanukar College

Although sports were not a prominent part of his school and college life, his foray into fitness began early, thanks to his father's encouragement. In the 11th grade, Gaurang's father, late Mr. Sudhir Amdekar, insisted he join a gym. This marked the start of a lifelong commitment to fitness. "From that point on, I have been consistent

every single day," he recalls. His dedication saw him transition from a gym enthusiast to a c o m p e t i t i v e b o d y b u i l d e r , p a r t i c i p a t i n g i n v a r i o u s competitions from 2014 to 2019. The COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 was a turning point for Gaurang. With gyms closed, he stumbled upon a kettlebell certification advertisement. Intrigued, he p u r c h a s e d a c o m p e t i t i o n kettlebell and began practicing at home "Kettlebell is an endurance sport, requiring lifts l i k e t h e c l e a n a n d j e r k continuously for 10 or 30 minutes," he explains. He immersed himself in the sport, training even past midnight He's parents were skeptical of his rigorous training and they told him “ kay te gole anlet, ani kay kartoy? Hyachya peksha bodybuilding ch kar. Hye nako karus. Back pain hoil”(why have you got these balls and what are you doing? These will give you back pains. Instead just stick with bodybuilding). But Gaurang was persistent. He started cycling and running to improve his endurance and for that he used to go at 3:00 AM in the midnight without telling his parents and come back home by 5:30 AM before his parents woke up "One day my father caught me. He scolded me and told me not to go for cycling because of heavy truck traffic between that time. But I kept on

going for cycling and started going to the beach to practice with kettlebell lifting for 30min lift", says Gaurang, who was determined to do something in this sport.

His first state-level competition in January 2021 saw him win gold, a feat he repeated at the national level just two months later In 2 0 2 2 , G a u r a n g m a d e a significant life change by moving to Goa for his job. This shift not only provided him with new professional opportunities but also marked the beginning of his deep connection with the state. He quickly immersed himself in the local community and began p r e p a r i n g f o r k e t t l e b e l l competitions under the Goan flag. His dedication saw him win gold at state and national competitions, and for the first time, he represented Goa at the national level. Later on he was invited by Girevoy Sport India Federation to represent India at Portugal World championship 2022.

Competing internationally posed significant financial challenges, as there was no government support Gaurang managed to fund his participation through local sponsors Despite these hurdles, he remained undeterred, securing fourth place in both the P o r t u g a l a n d H u n g a r y championships. Gaurang's

journey took a heartbreaking turn in late 2023 when his father, Mr. Sudhir was hospitalized and passed away. Even during this difficult period, he maintained his rigorous training schedule, driven by his late father's dream of seeing him win a medal for India. "I never stopped working out, even after he passed away," he shares, his voice filled with emotion. "It was his dream too."

All the hard work, sacrifices, and unwavering discipline culminated in a silver medal at the WKSF 2024 in Poland. Gaurang's victory was bittersweet, as he celebrated the fulfillment of a shared dream without his father by his side. "I cried a lot with mixed emotions," he admits. "All those sacrifices and discipline paid off, but my dad is not here to see my medal."

Although he won silver medal at WKSF 2024 in Poland, he still got a long way to go Gaurang's a m b i t i o n s e x t e n d b e y o n d personal achievements. He aims to win a gold medal for India and build a robust kettlebell team from Goa "I want to spread awareness and the benefits of kettlebell sport in Goan schools," he says, envisioning a future where Indian athletes compete on equal footing with the world's best. His vision includes training young athletes in Goa, ensuring that the state becomes a powerhouse in the kettlebell

sport.

For those looking to follow in his footsteps, Gaurang emphasizes the importance of technique and consistency. "Kettlebell sport requires perfect technique and patience," he advises "Many people get bored or want fast results, but it's all about consistency." His words reflect the discipline and perseverance that have been the cornerstones of his success. Gaurang believes that Goa has untapped potential and a i m s t o c u l t i v a t e a n e w generation of kettlebell athletes w h o c a n s h i n e o n t h e international stage.

Gaurang Amdekar's journey from scratch to the international stage, , is a powerful narrative of grit and p a s s i o n H i s u n w a v e r i n g dedication, even in the face of personal loss, exemplifies the spirit of a true champion. As he continues to strive for gold and b u i l d a r o b u s t k e t t l e b e l l community in Goa, Gaurang's story serves as a beacon of inspiration His relentless drive and commitment to his sport not only highlight his personal achievements but also ignite hope and aspiration in the hearts of aspiring athletes across India. Gaurang Amdekar is not just a sportsman; he is a testament to what can be achieved with perseverance, making him a true hero for the next generation.

Reviving

Goan Architecture

with Sustainable Practices

Goa, a region famed for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and historical charm, has a rich architectural heritage that dates back centuries. Traditional Goan architecture, characterized by its blend of Indo-Portuguese elements, offers more than just aesthetic appeal These

a r c h i t e c t u r a l m a r v e l s , designed to withstand the t r o p i c a l c l i m a t e a n d h a r m o n i z e w i t h t h e environment, provide valuable lessons in sustainability As modern construction often leads to environmental degradation, there is a

growing movement in Goa to revive these traditional practices, adapting them for c o n t e m p o r a r y u s e a n d ensuring a sustainable future.

Traditional Goan houses, with their distinctive red laterite stone walls, tiled roofs, and wide verandas, are designed to optimize natural light and ventilation. The use of locally sourced materials, such as laterite stone, coconut wood, and clay tiles, not only minimised the environmental impact but also ensured that buildings were well-suited to the local climate. Thick walls provided insulation against

heat, while the iconic sloping roofs efficiently drained monsoon rains, preventing water damage.

One of the most notable features of traditional Goan architecture is the central courtyard, or "balcao," which serves as a natural cooling system These open spaces promote air circulation and provide a communal area for families to gather, reflecting the social fabric of Goan life. Additionally, the incorporation of verandas and balconies not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also serves functional purposes, such as

offering shade and reducing heat gain.

In recent years, there has been a renewed interest in these a g e - o l d c o n s t r u c t i o n techniques, driven by the need for sustainable development. Architects and builders in Goa are increasingly looking to the past to create buildings that are not only environmentally friendly but also culturally resonant. This revival involves the integration of traditional materials and designs with modern technologies to meet contemporary needs without c o m p r o m i s i n g o n sustainability.

One prominent example is the use of laterite stone, a material abundant in Goa, which has excellent thermal properties. Modern architects are rediscovering its benefits, u s i n g i t f o r w a l l s a n d foundations to keep interiors cool naturally. Similarly, the practice of constructing sloping roofs with locally made clay tiles is being revived to ensure efficient rainwater drainage and reduce the urban heat island effect.

Understanding the Roman Catholic Church in Goa

The Roman Catholic Church in Goa stands as a significant r e l i g i o u s a n d c u l t u r a l institution with a well-defined hierarchy that dates back to the 16th century when the Portuguese first arrived. This hierarchical structure is essential for the effective administration of the church’s spiritual, pastoral, and administrative responsibilities, helping to preserve its rich traditions and facilitate its growth. MUSCLE BUILDING AND MUSCLE TONE

HOW DO MUSCLES GROW?

Skeletal muscle is the most adaptable tissue in your body When you do extreme exercise, like weightlifting, your muscle fibers undergo trauma, or what's called muscle injury. When your muscles are injured this way, satellite cells on the outside of the muscle fibers become activated They attempt to repair the damage by joining together and, as a result, increasing the muscle fiber.

CERTAIN HORMONESactually help your muscles grow, too. They control the satellite cells and are responsible for things like:sending the cells to your muscles after exercise, forming new b l o o d c a p i l l a r i e s , repairingmusclecells Managing muscle mass

For example, resistance moves help your body release growth hormone from your pituitary gland. How much is released depends on the intensity of the exercise you ' ve done Growth hormone triggers your metabolism and helps turn amino acids into protein to bulk up your muscles.

HOW TO BUILD MUSCLE

Spending your whole day in the gym isn't necessary to build muscle. Weight training for 30 to 45 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week is enough to see results. You should try to target all your major muscle groups at least twice throughout your weekly workouts. While you may not see results right away, even a single strength training session can help promote muscle growth Exercise stimulates what's called protein synthesis in the 2 to 4 hours after you finish your workout. Your levels may stay elevated for up to a whole day.

How exactly can you tell if your muscles are growing? You may be able to see more muscle definition. If not, you'll certainly be able to lift heavier weights with more ease over time.

STRENGTH TRAINING ACTIVITIES

INCLUDE:

1. body weight exercises, like pushups, squats, and lunges

2. resistance band movements

3. workouts with free weights, 4. workouts with stationary weight machines

When you lift, you should try to do between 8 and 15 repetitions in a row. That's one set Wait a minute in between sets to rest. Then complete another set of the same length. Take approximately 3 seconds to lift or push your weight into place. Then hold that position for a full second and take another slow 3 seconds to lower the weight.

RESISTANCE VS. REPS

You should aim to lift weight, also known as resistance, that's heavy enough to challenge yourself. A good guide is to select a weight that tires your muscles after 12 to 15 repetitions or reps. When you find that weights feel too easy, try gradually increasing the weight to the next level up. Even a single set of 12 reps with a heavy enough weight can help build your muscles versus 3 sets at a lighter weight.

WHY REST IS IMPORTANT

It's important to give your body plenty of rest as you begin a strength training program. Without taking days off, you may injure yourself and have to take time off from exercise, slowing your progress.

DO WOMEN BUILD MUSCLE AT THE SAME RATE AS MEN?

Men and women build muscles d i f f e r e n t l y . T h a t ' s b e c a u s e testosterone plays a big role in muscle development. While both sexes have testosterone in their bodies, men have more of this hormone However, studies like this one from 2000's have shown that both men and women have similar responses to strength training.

Overall, more noticeable changes in muscle mass tend to happen for people of either sex who have more muscle mass to begin with.

CARDIO AND MUSCLES

Aerobic exercise, otherwise known as cardio, raises your heart and breathing rates. It strengthens your cardiovascular system. You may have heard that too much cardio is bad for building muscle Current research Trusted Source shows that this isn't necessarily the case.

Aerobic exercise can actually help with muscle growth, muscle function, and your overall exercise capacity. These effects are particularly noted in older and previously sedentary individuals.

Bottom line: Working out with both cardio and resistance training exercises will keep your body and heart healthy and strong.

DIET AND MUSCLES

The foods you eat may help you build more muscle, too. Your protein intake, in particular, plays an important role in fueling your muscles How much protein should you eat? The current guideline is around 0.8 gram (g) per kilogram (kg) of your body weight

each day if you're over 19 years old. For example, a 70 kg woman would need to take in around 56 grams of protein a day. (70 kg x 0.8 g = 54.5 g.)

A80 kg man, on the other hand, would need to take in around 64 grams of protein a day. (80 kg x 0.8 g = 64 g.)

HERE ARE SOME MORE TIPS FOR BEGINNERS:

1. Warm up for 5 to 10 minutes with some type of aerobic exercise, like brisk walking. This will help you avoid injury from exercising with cold muscles.

2. Start light, with just 1- or 2 kg weights if you need to. You may even try going through the motions of strength training with no weight, since you're still lifting the weight of your arms and legs.

3 Increase your weight gradually Lifting too much too soon is a recipe for injury That said, if you don't challenge your muscles, you won't see gains. Try lifting weight that tires your muscles after 12 to 15 reps.

4. Lift your weights using controlled movement. Resist using uncontrolled motion at your joints to swing weight that's too heavy. This may lead to injury.

5 Keep breathing during your workout. Breathe out as you lift or push a weight. Breathe in as you relax.

6. Don't worry about soreness and a bit of muscle fatigue that lasts a few days. If you're feeling very sore and exhausted, you may be doing too much. Your exercise should not cause you pain, so take some time off.

7 Incorporate cardio into your exercise routine. Aerobic exercise, like running, can help build muscle if performed at the right intensity, duration, and frequency.

8. Eat a healthy diet that has a good dose of protein. These foods will fuel your workouts and help build muscle through certain amino acids like leucine. Animal sources have the most protein, but vegetable sources are also sufficient.

Always remember to talk to your doctor before starting a new workout routine, especially if you have a health c o n d i t i o n T h e y m a y h a v e recommendations for exercise modifications that can help keep you safe.
