It was while serving as the Administrative Assistant on the Board that the current President, Tiziana Pace, spearheaded the idea of ZEB magazine, a quarterly publication where juventini can read about Juventus and the Club’s activities. Taking on the task of Principal Writer Co-Editor, the magazine is now in its fourth year. Though she hopes to continue to do many wonderful things with for the Club, it is ZEB magazine that she leaves as her legacy. Dearest friends, It is a great accomplishment being a part of a club that has been in existence for ten years. We should all be proud. It would be too simple to attribute the Club’s successes to “me” or “him” or “her”. It is, in fact, the work of a great many people that has made the club what it is today. We are all a part of something that began construction 10 years ago. Over the course of those years, each and every member has contributed to the building of this club. It has been a cumulative effort that has allowed us to reach this point. The fact that we are still here is a testament to the strength of the foundation that this club has been built upon: the love of Juventus, a passion for the sport, and a mutual respect for each other. I thank you all for being a part of this. This commemorative issue of zeb magazine chronicles our journey throughout the last ten years. The following pages are filled with photographs depicting trips to Italy, galas, dinners, picnics and a great many other events. We acknowledge those people and organizations that have helped us in the past years from former Board members to zeb contributors to members who have attended our events. People have cooked for us, baked for us, donated their money, their time, and opened up their houses and businesses to us. Over the years, perhaps without even noticing it, with all these actions, we have created a community. We have come together through shared experienced and created a bond that will last a lifetime. Reminiscing about all these times is very emotional. We have lost some people along the way that we had shared times of great joy with. Other still, we have lost touch with, some due to family commitments or others still for that thing called life which sometimes steals away the time which we would much rather spend otherwise. What remains, however, are memories of life experiences that
will forever be dear to us. If we can go forward another ten years with even half the joys we have experienced together so far, what a wonderfully sweet journey this will continue to be. Tiziana Pace President

It was under the Presidency of Fausto Di Berardino that our Club became an officially recognized Club (a Club “DOC”) by the Juventus Centro Co-Ordinamento in Torino. He worked long and hard to give us a presence overseas and make us matter. Though he did many wonderful things during his terms as President, it is the recognition as a Club DOC that he leaves as a legacy to our Club.
Cari amici di Toronto, spesso, la mia mente corre verso di voi. E come potrebbe non essere così? Metà della mia vita l'ho vissuta in quella splendida città. Tuttora la sento ancora mia e tuttora rimpiango con grande gioia i giorni vissuti come persona e come primo Presidente DOC dello Juventus Club Toronto. Sembra ieri che ci accingevamo a ristrutturare il Club e a trasformarlo, grazie alle nuove normative del Centro Co ordinamento di Torino, in un Club di alto livello. Come non posso non ricordare le nostre "trasferte" a Torino e le nostre visite a Vinovo? Come non posso non ricordare l'entusiasmo che ci ac-
compagnava i giorni che precedevano la consegna delle prime tessere Doc? Inevitabilmente la mente vola ai giorni tristi che tutti noi Juventini abbiamo vissuto durante la "farsa" di Calciopoli e che ingiustamente ci vedeva militare in un campionato che non era pari al blasone Juventino.Ricordo bene quei giorni, ricordo quanti di noi e quanto abbiamo sofferto quella ingiusta penitenza. Ma sono esperienze che non uccidono, anzi ,fortificano. La società e i tifosi ne sono usciti fuori consapevoli che oggi, come non mai bisogna solo vincere, vincere e basta! E la Juventus, ha voluto fare questo dono a tutti noi che abbiamo sofferto quegli anni surreali, regalandoci la gioia di uno scudetto che a mio avviso è veramente il più bello di tutti gli altri! Adesso la Juventus è tornata, vincente e antipatica. Gran parte di questo ammirevole lavoro , va attribuito a Antonio Conte, si è calato in un ruolo non facile, con il rischio di fallire come hanno fallito i suoi illustri predecessori, ha incarnato

con determinazione e testardaggine la filosofia Juventina riportandola nell'olimpo del calcio Internazionale. Ma come volevasi dimostrare, Juve vincente Juve indagata...puntuale la macchina accusatrice dei mass - media e istituzioni ricominciano a trescare dubbi e accuse su una società che quando torna alla vittoria non è mai pulita...solo quando è perdente torna ad essere simpatica a tutti...è il paradosso del nostro destino. Ma la storia insegna che il percorso dei grandi poeti, musicisti, artisti, statisti, guerrieri, non è mai stato e non sarà mai privo di calunnie e infamie. Concludo dicendovi che non c'è lode senza infamia, ma alle critiche che muovono contro di noi si risponde con i buoni esempi e i fatti sul campo. Board member Franco Costa brings his many years of knowledge and experience to the forefront in his exclusive article on the history of the Juventus Club DOC Toronto. Costa, currently the Head of Public Relations, is a true veteran of the Club.
Essendo l’unico veterano in questo direttivo, dello JUVENTUS CLUB DOC TORONTO, con nove anni e nove mesi di presenza attiva, vorrei farvi un riassunto di tutto cio’ che questo club e` riuscito a fare, basandomi sui miei appunti e percio’ premetto le mie scuse se dimentico qualcosa o qualcuno. Nel lontano 10 ottobre 2002, alla presenza di Roberto Bettega, veniva ufficialmente costituito lo Juventus Club Toronto Roberto Bettega. Presidente del sodalizio Cav. Rocco Lo Franco, primo vice-presidente Dr. Peter Li Preti, secondo vicepresidente Antonio Fontana, tesoriere Amerigo Mazzoli. Fu una festa molto riuscita con una massiccia partecipazione di Juventini. All’inizio del 2003, tutte le riunioni del direttivo si svolgevano nell’ufficio di un grande tifoso della nostra squadra, cioe’ Tony Fontana. A questo punto il direttivo era al completo, composto come da statuto di 15 persone. Si aggiunsero, alle gia’ menzionate, le seguenti persone: Giuliana Beato, segretaria, Fausto Ponti capo del social committee. Facevano parte Membership Committee Vince Carlucci, Rocco Chiappetta e Angelo Trimmelliti. I consiglieri erano: Joe Bonavota, Franco Costa, Joe Filazzola, Mario La Rocca, e Franco Luciani. Presidente Onorario era Gino Ventresca. Ai primi di maggio del 2003, una delegazione del nostro club, Li Preti, Costa, V. Bonofiglio, F. Ponti ed altri si recarono a Torino per la famosa semi-finale di coppa: JUVE(3) – REAL MADRID(1). Non potete immaginare quale emozione. Nel pacchetto era inclusa anche l’ultima di campionato REGGINA(2)-JUVE(1) alla quale tutti noi Calabresi assistemmo con molto piacere. Il 26 ottobre 2003, ci fu il primo Annual General Meeting ( AGM) alla City Hall di North York, grazie all’inter6

essamento del nostro vice-presidente Dr. Li Preti, che ci aveva permesso di fare tante riunioni in sedi diverse nell’attesa di averne una propria. Il 14 febbraio 2004, per la ricorrenza del San Valentino, il nostro club organizzo’ il primo Dinner-Dance, presso la Terrace Banquet Hall. Per l’occasione un grande Juventino, Tony Lima, scrisse un inno alla Juve che incidemmo in sala-registrazione e che poi cantammo dal vivo durante la serata danzante, alla presenza di circa 350 partecipanti. Era il nostro momento! L’entusiasmo alle stelle. Tutto cio’ che organizzavamo era un successo assicurato perche’ il popolo Juventino di Toronto partecipava, era con noi. Infatti, anche il picnic del 27 giugno 2004 fu un successone con il piu’ grande numero di presenze. Finalmente, dopo tante peripezie, nell’agosto del 2004, avemmo la nostra propria sede ricavata su un soppalco presso Kappa Sport Bar e contemporaneamente, negli stessi giorni, eleggemmo un nuovo presidente nella persona di Fausto Ponti, funzionario Alitalia e Juventino di nascita . E si raggiunge Tiziana Pace….Con lui partecipammo alla festa del Milan Club ( novembre 2004) e organizzammo anche un rinfresco in sede per lo scambio di auguri di Natale. Malgrado il nostro impegno, le cose in questa nuova sede non andarono per il meglio, per cui alcune riunioni vennero fatte presso il 90o Minuto Sport Bar, grazie alla generosita’ dell’ amico juventino Tony Albi. L’11 gennaio 2005 ci fu una riunione speciale del direttivo presso il Coppi Ristorante di Toronto. Discutemmo molto sull’andamento del club e in ultima analisi vennero fuori tre persone nuove interessate a far parte del direttivo: Fausto Di Berardino, Pat Freda e Tony Marrone. Il 5 febbraio 2005, sotto la presidenza di Fausto Ponti, organizzammo il sec

ondo dinner-dance, nei saloni della Renaissance Park, dell’amico juventino Danny Boni, nonche’ il secondo picnic nel luglio del 2005. Entrambi gli eventi registrarono una grande partecipazione di soci e simpatizzanti. Dopo le ferie estive, ritenemmo opportuno di rivedere i diversi aspetti del club. Per cui, il 29 settembre fu indetta una riunione speciale del direttivo e in conclusione Fausto Di Berardino divento’ il nuovo presidente. Avendo raggiunta una quota di tesserati abbastanza sostenuta, dopo l’ AGM di fine ottobre, chiedemmo e ottenemmo dallo JUVENTUS F. C. di Torino, la denominazione di CLUB DOC. A meta’ d i cemb r e d el lo stesso ann o ricevemmo le tessere nominative per l’anno 2005-2006 e il nostro club, a questo punto divento’ ufficialmente lo JUVENTUS CLUB DOC TORONTO ROBERTO BETTEGA. Tutto cio`ci permise di offrire, a meta’ gennaio 2006, un rinfresco alla Renaissance Park, per consegna tessere, presentazione dell’attestato e gagliardetto che testimonio’ lo status DOC del nostro sodalizio. Furono presenti circa 400 persone di cui 250 tesserati e ospite d’onore fu l’On. Maurizio Bevilacqua. Nell’attesa di trovare una nuova sede, grazie alla magnanimita’ del nostro presidente, le riunioni mensili del direttivo si svolsero presso Coppi Ristorante. Nei primi di marzo 2006, avemmo la nostra sede stabile a Woodbridge. Nell’aprile 2006, un gruppo di circa 20 tesserati parteciparono al secondo viaggio sportivo organizzato dal club e andarono in Italia per visi-

Approfittando della presenza di Valeria Ciardiello a Ottawa, il 7 novembre 2010, la convincemmo a venire alla nostra festa annuale, presso la Gondola Banquet Hall, con grande piacere dei 130 partecipanti. L’anno si concluse con una bella festa natalizia del direttivo alla Gondola Banquet Hall. Ottima cena con del buon vino e all’insegna dell’amicizia. Il 2011 fu molto tranquillo, ma con il passare del tempo successero alcuni cambiamenti. Per questioni finanziarie fummo costretti a lasciare la nostra sede. Pero’ grazie alla generosita’ della famiglia Pace, ottenemmo uno spazio tutto Honorary Presidente, nostro all’interno the late della loro Gino Ventresca
azienda, sperando sempre di trovare un’altra sede. Dietro votazione del direttivo venne cambiato il nome del nostro sodalizio, eliminando “Roberto Bettega”, creando pero’ un grande vociferare nella comunnita’ Juventina di Toronto. Inoltre piccolo rimpasto in seno al direttivo con la mia nomina, all’unanimita’, alle public relations. In questa annata di transizione furono organizzati con grande successo, il picnic estivo, il wine-tasting presso Coppi ristorante e il poker tournament. Questi eventi sono stati ripetuti nel 2012. Cosicche’, grazie alla dinamicita’ di Dino Di Gennaro e Steven Venere,un altro poker tournament annuale ha dato ottimi risultati, come pure, piu’ in la’, il wine-tasting, ancora una volta presso Coppi ristorante e poi il picnic estivo. Da non dimenticare la grande emozione dataci quest’anno dalla nostra Signora nel nuovo stadio, vincendo uno scudetto che restera’ negli annali come uno dei migliori, se non il migliore. In conclusione, carissimi Juventini
che mi leggete, passate parola, come potete costatare nei primi dieci anni di questo club sono state fatte tantissime cose grazie all’impegno, alla passione, alla dedizione e ai sacrifici di tante persone. Purtroppo in questo particolare momento abbiamo bisogno di tutti coloro che amano la Juventus, specialmente coloro che frequentano il 90o Minuto dell’amico Tony Albi. Vi chiediamo di ritornare a far parte del nostro club, di essere parte attiva del nostro direttivo, di portare nuove idee e perche’ no, anche nuove critiche purche’ siano costruttive per il bene del nostro Club. Un invito particolare ai giovani, voi che siete il futuro del nostro sodalizio, siate orgogliosi di essere Juventini e contribuite al successo di questo club per i prossimi dieci anni per far si che voi possiate dire con orgoglio ai vostri figli di far parte dello JUVENTUS CLUB DOC TORONTO. We spend so much time during the year cheering for Juventus that when the season is over we have all this energy that has no outlet. This is why our Annual Picnics were started. When we finally have some time to ourselves, it is nice to sit in the sun, relax, play soccer, answer trivia and share a barbeque. Raffles, music and prizes round out this event. The summer would never be complete without it.

We began the Poker Tournaments as a way of getting our members together in the spirit of competition. After four years, it has become one of our most successful events. The tournament includes dinner and drinks along with the game. Although it seems that everyone is so busy playing that there is never someone taking pictures, keep an eye out for announcements of upcoming Poker Tournaments.

Hosted by Coppi Ristorante, our Wine Tasting Events bring together family and friends, and provide an evening of delectable delights. From the wine pairings to the atmosphere, one never leaves the evening with anything less than a complete appreciation for fine dining and a full stomach.

Throughout our ten years, no matter where we have had our Club Headquarters, it has always served as a home base for us. Members always have a place to watch games, pickup their membership kits and magazines, and engage in social activities such as card playing, lunches, and meeting our traveling guests, most notably Robert Bettega, Beppe Furino and Valeria Ciardiello. We look forward to our Club Headquarters being a place where our members can continue to meet and create shared experiences.

Every year our Club has hosted an Annual Gala, as well as dinners celebrating our team’s victories, Christmas, Easter and the first ever Miss Juventus competition. Nothing brings people together more than the love of a sport and food. These pictures showcase the success that our Club has had in bringing joy to our members through celebrated events and camaraderie. One of the most exciting events that the Club organizes is its Trips to Italy. This includes not only a week in a gorgeous country full of elegance and history but also the opportunity to follow Juventus in action. The Club organizes group tickets to watch Juventus playing both the Italian League and Cup games, a visit to Vinovo to watch the players practice (and perhaps grab an autograph or two), a pregame “Walk About” of the Stadium, a visit to the Juventus Headquarters Trophy Room, and many other Italian exertions. The visits continue to serve as talking points long after the trips are over. If you have been lucky enough to have participated in one of our Trips to Italy, you can appreciate the magnitude that such a trip has on a Juventus fan. If you have never come with us, you don’t know what you’re missing.

ZEB magazine came about as a response to member requests for more free flowing communication between the Club’s Board and its members. Founded by current President Tiziana Pace, ZEB magazine is the product of the hard work of many people who have contributed their time towards the common goal of the unity of the Juventus Club DOC Toronto members and juventini throughout Toronto.
