A Letter

From Our Lieutenant Governor Hello Dragons! Welcome to the first volume and issue of the Dragon Tales, the monthly newsletter created by our Division News Editor, Frank Le. Make sure to look through because I know Frank has worked very hard to create this! It has only been a little over a month since the installation at DCON and our division has already accomplished so much! From raising over $400 for March of Dimes to successfully making 40 ribbon leis for Aktion Club DCON, I can't wait to see what else we will accomplish in the next 10 months. I want to congratulate each officer and member for surviving the month of May. I understand that May was a very hectic month with AP exams and now finals are quickly approaching. The school year is almost ending so finish strong Dragons! You can do it! Although the school year is coming to an end, the service will never stop! Make sure to attend the June DCM/Relay for Life of Huntington Beach and OTC this month! We also have many other fun events planned out for this summer so stay tuned! I hope to see you soon! Fired up for service,

Ch!"ina Tran

PAST EVENTS

At the April DCM, it was the first DCM that Christina held as our new LTG for this term. She talked about some of the past events that occurred and also explained some new events. For Eliminate Week, which is from May 5th to May 9th, Christina gave each presidents a giant baby bottle so that each school could fundraiser for Project Eliminate. In the March of

Babies, all of us walked around the Fashion Island area for 3.5 miles. While walking, we did many cheers and chants to show our spirit. We also took a bunch of pictures during the walk of some of the places we saw. We also got to know other people from different schools and divisions and became friends with them. I saw many different groups of people who were all walking for their loved ones and trying to bring more awareness and funds to this organization. Close to the end of the walk, we saw plaques that showed names of babies who have died prematurely and it shows that our donations are going to a cause that can happen to an-

yone. After the walk was over, we all signed the March of Babies poster and looked around at the booths to see what they were doing for this cause. There was a booth that gave medical supplies to people and showed what was necessary in it. From this event, I felt happy that I was able to participate to find ways to help premature babies and babies with different kind of conditions. This is a great charity to donate to and I know that the money that we all donated was for a good cause and for research. In addition, from this event, we were all able to meet new people from different schools and became friends with all of them.

PAST EVENTS

The Eliminate Project is working to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from women and babies, which will reduce the chances of later generations receiving the disease.

Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) is a disease that kills one baby every nine minutes, and causes the deaths of over 60,000 women per year. Newborn babies are born with extreme sensitivity to light and touch, and will have repeated, painful convulsions.

$1.80 can save a life. With three 60-cent dosages of immunization, mothers can protect themselves and their children from the dangers of MNT. To completely eliminate MNT from the world, it takes 100 million dollars (US) and the help of many volunteers. UNICEF, however, has found a way to eliminate this disease in some countries, but there are still countries out there that need help.

Editor’s Notes Hello Key Clubbers & welcome to Frank’s corner, where your wildest dreams come true! Let me tell you a bit about myself. I’m currently a freshman at Mater Dei High school, the proud home of the Monarchs! I can honestly say that Key Club itself changed my life. I was introduced to it my 8th grade year when my friend started becoming active. After intense Facebook stalking (one of my favorite activities), I found out the joys and wonders of Key Club! When Club Fair was going on at my school, the first booth I rushed over was to Key Club! I quickly dragged along all of my friends, and when we arrived, I was proud to see that the freshman class had the most incomers! Ever since my first meeting, my most fond memory would have to be embarrassing my president on the first day, and having her do the “how do you feel cheer.” This term, I am proud to say that I am your 20142015 News Editor! Technology is a huge part of our lives, and I’d like to implement it greatly into our Key Club lives as well! I know for a fact that I sit on a computer for a very long time, so might as well put it to use! I will be working to make the newsletters more enjoyable and readable throughout this year, so if you have an suggestions, please “hit me up”! (; That’s about all I have to say, so I hope you dragons stay “fired up for service!” Yours through service,

Frank Le Frank Le
