She is sure to have all the answers you need!
Team players play by the rules and while we know that rules are meant to be broken and all that, these ones are for the safety of everyone involved in Challenge Day and we encourage everyone taking part to follow these guidelines and have fun.
1. Only humans allowed
15 000 people and their families are very overwhelming to all kinds of animals and we ask that you keep your fur babies at home.
2. Fun for the whole family
Children and babies are more than welcome to take part but please stay behind the front runners for their safety. Write your name and cell phone number on their arm in case they get lost in the hustle and bustle. Remember if your little ones would like a goodie bag, they will need their own entry – so pay for their entry for them to experience the goodies with you!
3. Not for sale
No participant is allowed to sell any products or services. If you are interested in booking a stand for your company, contact Lindi on 083 685 1989 or email lindi@eofe.co.za for prices and bookings.
4. Men make fire
Please don’t bring your own braais as we will have braai facilities available for everyone at the venue, with fire provided, to keep the men busy while the ladies run. Only plastic bottles will be allowed. Speaking of men, we won’t stop them from doing the Challenge with you but they won’t be eligible for any prizes. We’ll give them a goodie bag though.
5. Quick ‘n easy registration
You’ve paid your entry fee and collected your Challenge pack from a participating SPAR store, now remember to register by scanning the unique QR code on your Challenge race number, which can be found in your Challenge
entry pack. For more information on how to register, check out page 6!
6. Wear it, baby
If you really don’t want to wear your Challenge shirt that we give you, you don’t have to but we would appreciate it if you did as a token of solidarity. We encourage you to decorate your shirt if you feel the urge to be creative (you could even win a prize) but no other specific clothing is required, unless you are trying to win a category prize.
7. Busy mornings
The SPAR Women’s Challenge is aimed at women, who are normally busy in the mornings. We didn’t want them to miss their own Challenge so we moved it up to the afternoons. Lots of water will be available for everyone to prevent dehydration if it ends up getting too hot.
8 . Catch a ride
We encourage our ladies to use another form of transport, such as the Gautrain (the venue is only 1km from the Centurion Station) or buses that will be available on the day. Call the AGN office on 011 327 4930/1/2 for bus schedules for the day. Ladies who will be arriving in their own cars will be directed by traffic marshals.
9. And the winner is…
There is no cut off time for the Challenge. We wait for the last runner or walker to cross the finish line before declaring the Challenge over. Prize giving starts at 16:00 on Challenge Day. If you are a lucky winner and win some money, payments will be done the following Thursday. 10. There is a doctor in the house
A clearly marked medical tent with qualified medical staff will be on the field, as well as emergency teams at the water points and the finish line with ambulances standing by to deal with any medical situation or emergency. The route is 100% wheelchair and pram friendly. Contact Christien van der Merwe on 083 458 0337 for more information on medical assistance on Challenge Day.
11. Results
All results for the 10km will be announced ten days after the Challenge has happened and posted on www.raceresults.co.za. Only the results of the 10km Challenge will be posted as the 5km will not be timed.
Now it’s over to you, come along, have fun, and #ChooseYou with thousands of other women on 3 August 2024!

Communities & Tradition The Story of Setšong Tea
Crafters
In the heart of rural Limpopo, amidst the rolling hills and lush landscapes, a mother and daughter duo, Retang and Nondumiso, embarked on a journey that would not only transform their lives but also uplift their entire community. Together, they founded Setšong Tea Crafters, a business deeply rooted in tradition, sustainability, and empowerment.
Setšong Tea Crafters emerged from a collaboration with the community and elderly members of the Bapedi tribe in Sekhukune. It was born out of a desire to sustainably harness the rich biodiversity of the region. By harvesting indigenous plants, Retang and Nondumiso crafted a variety of teas, each offering unique taste profiles and superior health benefits.
“Our journey with Setšong Tea Crafters began with a recognition of the natural abundance surrounding us and a desire to create something meaningful,” explains Nondumiso. “We saw an opportunity to blend nature’s bounty with flavour and spice, awakening the senses and celebrating
the beauty of our rural landscape.”
Their commitment to sustainability and community empowerment has had a profound impact on the rural economy of Limpopo. Setšong Tea Crafters has created 30 permanent jobs and 15 seasonal jobs, providing much-needed opportunities for local residents.
“We were inspired by the talents, skills, and natural leadership of the women in our community,” shares Retang. “We felt that they were only lacking an enabling environment to help them thrive.”
The decision to work with tea was a natural one for Retang and Nondumiso. Tea offered an impactful asset with numerous health benefits that could

benefit society. Moreover, it provided an opportunity to create a new industry in Sekhukhune while showcasing the region’s rich biodiversity.
“We blend traditional principles with modern business strategies by standardising traditional practices, ensuring quality, and adapting traditions into modern forms,” explains Nondumiso. “This approach allows us to uphold our heritage while evolving to meet the needs of today’s world.”
Navigating the tea industry as women presented its challenges, but Retang and Nondumiso remained steadfast in their pursuit of excellence. Through perseverance, dedication, and a commitment to authenticity, they gradually earned recognition and established themselves as leaders in the tea world.
“Our advice for women aspiring to start a business that helps others is to believe in your vision passionately and surround yourself with a supportive network,” advises Retang. “Embrace your uniqueness and seek mentorship and guidance from those who have walked a similar path.”
Setšong Tea Crafters’ journey is a testament to the transformative power of entrepreneurship and the profound impact it can have on individuals and communities. Retang and Nondumiso’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and preserving tradition perfectly aligns with SPAR’s sponsorship pillars, which aim to uplift female entrepreneurs. Their remarkable dedication serves as an inspiration to
us all, showcasing the significance of cultivating businesses that not only prosper but also uplift the community. SPAR is deeply inspired by their achievements and is proud to support endeavours that promote empowerment and tradition preservation.
SMILE IMPACT IN MOOIPLAATS
In the heart of Mooiplaats Informal Settlement (Centurion, Gauteng) is a beacon of hope and transformation shining through SMILE IMPACT (Showing More Interest Love and Empathy) in partnership with Setšong Tea Crafters.
SMILE IMPACT’s fundamental values:
• Every individual is seen as a hidden gem with untapped potential and unique strengths. SMILE IMPACT ignites a cycle of positive change by nurturing these qualities.
• The person and the process are more important than the projects or products!
SMILE IMPACT dreams of expanding its reach and deepening its impact. Our vision began to take shape with the collaboration of Setšong Tea Crafters, opening doors for SMILE IMPACT to empower black women in crafting unique handmade tea bags. FNB has played a pivotal role in backing this pilot initiative, empowering an initial group of 12 black women to discover their talents and purpose by creating 5000 decorative tea bags, which can even be transformed into stylish earring sets. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to FNB for their inspiring commitment to fostering personal and professional development within our local communities.

the Woman who lives Caster
As the SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane approaches, the pages of My Tshwane Challenge Magazine are graced with the voice of one of South Africa’s most influential athletes, Caster Semenya, who embodies the spirit of empowerment both on and off the track.
Caster is a highly influential athlete who recognises the importance of empowering other women. She emphasises the significance of embracing individuality and prioritising personal dreams, echoing the #ChooseYou theme of the SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane. To Semenya, empowerment means recognising the unique strengths inherent within each woman and encouraging them to pursue their passions relentlessly despite any obstacles they may face.
Reflecting on her journey, Caster shares a pivotal moment in her career where she felt particularly empowered as a woman and an athlete. It was a moment when she stood tall against unjust regulations imposed upon her, refusing to let discrimination and scrutiny dim her spirit. Through her resilience and determination, Semenya continued to compete at the highest level and advocated for fairness and equality within the sport.
She offers invaluable advice for young girls and women aspiring to pursue athletics or any maledominated field: Believe in yourself unapologetically. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and let your passion fuel your journey towards greatness. Caster’s unwavering belief in herself serves as a beacon
of inspiration for those who dare to defy expectations and embrace their authenticity.
Inevitably, criticism and setbacks are part of any journey, but Semenya refuses to let them define her. She said, “If a door closes, I go through the wall.” Drawing strength from her belief in herself and her abilities, Semenya remains resilient in adversity. She understands that challenges are opportunities for growth and transformation. By embodying this mindset, she not only overcomes obstacles but also inspires others to push beyond limitations and pursue their dreams with unwavering determination.
Caster emphasises the pivotal role that sports play in promoting gender equality and empowering women worldwide. Through sports, women learn invaluable lessons in resilience, teamwork, and leadership, fostering a culture of empowerment and inclusion.
Looking ahead, Caster’s goals and aspirations remain focused on excelling in her career as a mentor and coach while advocating for fairness and equality in sports. Her message to all women is clear: Embrace your uniqueness, pursue your dreams relentlessly, and never apologise for being who you are.
As participants lace up their running
shoes for the SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane, let them carry Semenya’s message of empowerment with them every step of the way. Together, they can create a world where every woman is empowered to #ChooseYou and embrace her unique greatness.
I believe we are each born with something that no one else can touch. That only belongs to and can be defined by you. No one can measure it. No one can take it away from you. And you must be strong enough to fight for it when they try.

an Entrepreneurial Spirit
The Journey of Mo & Michelle
Mo and Michelle Mokone, sisters and co-founders of Mo’s Crib, have been on a remarkable journey of empowerment, both for themselves and for the women in their community. Their story is not just one of entrepreneurship but also of resilience, compassion, and dedication to making a positive impact.
Their journey began with a simple realisation – they didn’t need fancy degrees or prestigious titles to make a living. Armed with this insight, they embarked on their entrepreneurial path, starting with selling handmade items. Through this venture, they discovered the power of art as a means of communication, creating not just products but opportunities for themselves and the women in their community.
“We started our company from selling items made by hand, and it is during this time we realised we don’t need a fancy degree or a fancy role to make a living.
Art is a way of communication, and we have been able to communicate through the works of our hands,” Mo shares.
Their company, Mo’s Crib, quickly evolved from a small-scale venture to a significant force for change in their community. By utilising the skills and talents of local women, they turned their passion for art into a platform for job creation and economic empowerment.
“The opportunity has turned into job creation as well as livelihoods for many families,” Michelle explains. “The feedback from our employees has been that it has created a sense of worthiness. It has provided them an opportunity to offer their children something that was not easily accessible for them in the form of education.”
Their commitment to empowering women extends beyond providing employment opportunities. Mo and Michelle have implemented various initiatives within their company to support the wellbeing and development of their staff. From daily meals and transportation subsidies to access to healthcare and wellness programmes, they strive to create a supportive and inclusive work environment where employees can thrive.
“We have a wellness initiative at work that helps our employees be able to show up as their best selves,” Mo explains. “Our employees have access to a nurse every month, and they are able to consult
the nurse and doctor on days they do not feel well – the company pays for this consultation.”
Their dedication to supporting women in their community has not gone unnoticed. In 2023, Mo and Michelle were honoured with the JacarandaFM Entrepreneur Competition award, recognising their outstanding contributions to entrepreneurship and community development.
“To be recognised in this way and be seen as women who are making a difference is really such a boost and motivation for us to keep going,” Michelle shares. “This competition has benefited us financially, and we have been able to use the funds towards research and development.”
Despite the challenges they’ve faced as entrepreneurs, Mo and Michelle remain steadfast in their commitment to empowering women. They recognise the importance of collaboration and have actively sought partnerships with organisations that share their mission.
“As entrepreneurs focused on helping women in our community, we’ve encountered various challenges along the way,” Mo acknowledges. “One significant issue has been access to resources and funding, particularly for womenowned businesses. To address this, we’ve actively sought out partnerships

with organisations that support women entrepreneurs.”
Looking to the future, Mo and Michelle are determined to continue their work of empowering women both within their organisation and beyond.
“At Mo’s Crib, we are dedicated to empowering women,” Mo affirms.
“In the future, we plan to continue supporting women by offering mentorship programmes and resources to help them succeed in entrepreneurship.”
Their journey is a testament to the transformative power of entrepreneurship and the profound impact it can have on individuals and communities alike. Through their unwavering dedication and compassion, Mo and Michelle Mokane are truly making a difference in the lives of women and paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future.
Balance
Juggling Life, Career, and Self-Care
In an era where the demands of work, family, and personal aspirations frequently overwhelm individuals, Rozanne McKenzie emerges as a symbol of empowerment and balance. As a radio and TV presenter, a dedicated mother, and an advocate of self-care, Rozanne adeptly navigates the intricacies of modern existence with poise and resolve.
Reflecting on her journey towards empowerment, Rozanne shares, “Empowerment is an ongoing process. It involves learning and managing the multitude of tasks I undertake.” Her journey commenced with the simple realisation that on some days, certain priorities take precedence over others. Whether focusing on her career, being present for her family, or pursuing personal aspirations, Rozanne has mastered the art of effective prioritisation without succumbing to guilt.
Central to Rozanne’s life philosophy is the notion of choosing oneself, encapsulated in this year’s theme, #ChooseYou. “I came to understand that it’s acceptable not to meet
everyone’s expectations,” she affirms. “I compartmentalise my responsibilities and allocate time accordingly. When I’m engaged in a particular task, that is what receives my full attention.” For Rozanne, prioritising herself means placing her wellbeing first, even amid her hectic schedule. Whether she’s training for a triathlon or simply indulging in some much-needed downtime, Rozanne ensures that her own needs receive attention.
“I often make the decision to choose myself, particularly when I make time to train,” she explains. “It required significant effort during triathlon training. There were moments where I felt obligated to exercise, but I shifted my mindset to view it as a privilege
There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.

rather than an obligation.”
Maintaining motivation amidst life’s chaos is a continuous challenge, but Rozanne lives by her simple mantra: strive for improvement each day. “My motivation stems from dedicating time daily to prioritise myself and engage in fulfilling activities,” she affirms. By focusing on incremental progress and engaging in activities that bring her joy, Rozanne sustains a sense of purpose and drive.
Nevertheless, finding the balance and practicing self-care can prove challenging, particularly with a demanding schedule. Rozanne stresses the importance of finding moments of tranquillity and relaxation amid the hustle and bustle. “Taking moments to be still and enjoy a few moments of quiet reflection, free from external demands, is invaluable,” she remarks. “Even if it’s just an hour during the weekend, it is important to make time to nurture myself.”
Despite her busy lifestyle, Rozanne acknowledges the necessity of compromise in pursuing personal goals while managing career and family obligations. “It’s okay not to excel in every aspect all the time,” she advises. “Some days, it’s necessary to step back from one commitment to fulfil another. I’ve learned not to dwell on these
compromises or feel guilty about them.”
By candidly sharing her challenges and journey towards empowerment, Rozanne aims to inspire other women facing similar struggles. “I’m transparent about my mental health challenges and how I prioritise selfcare,” she asserts. “Sharing these challenges is pivotal in the journey towards self-empowerment and selfacceptance.”
Ultimately, Rozanne’s message emphasises the need for selfacceptance and resilience. “I’ve had to learn to embrace all the aspects of myself, and it’s an ongoing journey,” she reflects. “Each day brings a bit more confidence and self-assurance. I have learned to embrace and celebrate the journey.”
In a world where self-care often takes a backseat to other responsibilities, Rozanne serves as a poignant reminder that prioritising one’s wellbeing is not selfish—it’s indispensable. Through choosing herself, Rozanne has discovered empowerment, balance, and fulfilment in every facet of her life. Her journey serves as an inspiration to women everywhere, reaffirming that they possess the capacity to achieve their dreams, regardless of the obstacles in their path.

In the fiercely competitive realm of netball, where leadership can define victory, Jenny van Dyk’s ascendancy to the role of head coach of the national team, the SPAR Proteas, is more than just a triumph. It’s a testament to her unwavering selfbelief and her relentless commitment to empowering women in sports. But Jenny’s journey wasn’t just about reaching the top—it was about continually choosing herself, sacrificing comfort for her passion, and blazing a trail for others to follow with relentless determination and resilience.
Jenny’s initiation into coaching wasn’t scripted. It was born out of adversity, a response to injuries that could have shattered her dreams as a player. Yet, under the mentorship of a coach who refused to let her wallow in self-pity, Jenny discovered a new calling. “I just fell in love with it there,” she recalls, her passion ignited by the opportunity to contribute from the sidelines. From that pivotal moment, Jenny embarked on a journey that would see her transition from player to mentor, from student of the game to its custodian.
From the beginning of her coaching odyssey, Jenny understood the symbiosis between player and coach, recognising that insights gleaned from one role enrich the other. Her path to
coaching prowess wasn’t a shortcut; it was a painstaking ascent through the ranks, marked by two and a half decades of unwavering dedication. “I didn’t skip one level,” she emphasises, recounting her progression from coaching youngsters at the grassroots level to guiding national teams. Her story isn’t just about reaching the top; it’s about earning every step, about proving her mettle time and again in the arena of competition.
Now, as the torchbearer for the SPAR Proteas, Jenny’s mission extends far beyond victories on the court. It’s about fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment, about creating pathways for aspiring female athletes to chase their dreams unencumbered
by prejudice or doubt. “We accept each other exactly as we are,” she asserts, championing an ethos of support and understanding, where every player is valued not just for their athleticism, but for their unique journey and struggles. Her coaching philosophy isn’t just about winning games; it’s about nurturing resilience, instilling confidence, and forging bonds that transcend the scoreboard, showing each player that when they choose themselves, they choose the team.
Jenny’s vision for the SPAR Proteas netball team isn’t modest; it’s audacious. It’s about setting the gold standard for excellence on the global stage, about rewriting the narrative of South African netball with every victory
and every inspired performance. “My hopes and goals for the SPAR Proteas netball team are to set the standard of netball performance in the world,” she declares, her voice resolute with determination. With Jenny at the helm, the SPAR Proteas aren’t just a team; they’re a beacon of hope for every young girl with a dream and a testament to the power of unwavering self-belief.
For Jenny, empowering the next generation of female athletes is paramount. Her advice echoes through the corridors of doubt and uncertainty: persevere, for the path to success is fraught with challenges, but not insurmountable. With unwavering support and an indomitable spirit, dreams can be transformed into reality.
Beyond the confines of the court, Jenny recognises the profound societal impact of netball. It’s a platform for gender equality, a stage where women defy stereotypes and carve out their legacies through sheer grit and determination. Through her team’s exploits, Jenny challenges the entrenched biases of a male-dominated industry, proving that excellence knows no gender.
In the annals of netball history, Jenny van Dyk’s name will be etched not just as a coach, but as a trailblazer—a woman who dared to dream, who defied convention, and who, through unwavering determination, inspired generations to come.
The empowered woman is fierce and independent, yet she understands the value of collaboration and support. - Unknown

Some trends for 2024 we love!
Chrome Finishes
The metallic look creates a mirrorlike, reflective effect and comes in a range of colours, from classic silver and pearl to more vibrant hues.
Aura Nails
This dreamy, ethereal effect reminiscent of an aura’s energy involves selecting colours that capture its essence. Blending complementary hues will give that mesmerising appearance where one colour seamlessly transitions into another.
French Tips with a Twist
The traditional, white-tipped French manicure has been replaced by a variety of colours, patterns, and textures, offering a fresh take on this classic style. A popular alternative to the sharp lines of the French tip, is the ombre effect where two or more colours gradually blend into one another.
Jelly Finishes
Its translucent effect can be described as the lip-gloss of manicures. Its ultra-glossy wash of colour looks like jelly or stained glass and gives a fresh and clean appearance.
Bows and Pearls
These decals or 3D embellishments can add a classic touch of glamour and sophistication to your basic manicure. Whether you prefer dainty bows or pearls or a bold statement, there’s a style to suit every taste.
Metallic Colours
These continue to dominate the nail art scene with the most sought-after shades for 2024 being pink, a luxurious deep gold, and the timeless silver metallic. It is an easy way to add a sophisticated shine to a basic mani.

Gia Costa, Director at Siena Distribution, shares some of her dreamy peach nail design ideas:
Peach Ombre
Use a soft peach and gradually blend into a deeper shade towards the tips of the nails.
Floral Accents
Add hand-painted blossoms or 3D embellishments for a whimsical charm.
Glitter Glam
Whether a full accent nail or subtle sparkly accents, add a sprinkle of glitter for a dazzling finish.
Negative Space
Incorporate minimalistic designs like geometric or abstract shapes for a sophisticated and understated look. This look can be elevated with a gold chrome liner.
Marble Magic
Use a combination of peach, white, and nude polish to create a swirling pattern reminiscent of marble stone.
Matte Finish
Add a matte topcoat to create a velvety, soft appearance.

Butro Spread Butter or cream cheese
500g beef mince
1 brown onion
125 ml bread crumbs
Salt and pepper to taste
30 ml chutney
15 ml Worcestershire sauce
5ml oregano spice
15ml tomato sauce
Jimmy Steakhouse Sauce for brushing
Green curly lettuce
Tomato (sliced)
Cheddar cheese slices
Shoulder bacon slices (2 for each hamburger)

Instructions
1. Use a glass bowl to combine mincemeat, finely chopped onions, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, chutney, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and tomato sauce thoroughly.
2. Shape the mixture into uniform-sized balls and gently flatten each into a patty. Allow them to chill in the fridge for approximately 20 minutes.

4. Grill the bacon in the oven on a baking tray, drizzled with olive oil and honey for added taste. Set aside until required.
5. Now it’s time to build your burger!
6. Halve the cheese roll, butter it, and layer lettuce, tomato, cheese, and the beef patty on the bottom half of the roll.
7. Add bacon pieces and extra microgreens for garnish, seasoning with a sauce of your choice.
8. Secure the top half of the roll with a sosatie stick.
9. Serve immediately alongside a portion of air fryer chips.
Biltong Braai Broodjie
20-30 MINs
Ingredients
12 slices of Sunbake bread
Butter or olive oil
2 red onions (sliced)
3 tablespoons soft brown sugar
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 cup (about 200 g) biltong cut into small pieces
Plain cream cheese
240 g Cheddar cheese (sliced or grated)
Instructions
1. Heat butter or oil in a pan over the fire and sauté the onions until soft. Stir in sugar and balsamic vinegar, then simmer over low heat for 15-20 minutes until the onions caramelize and become tender. Set aside to cool.
2. Finely chop the biltong using your sharpest knife.
3. Assemble the bread slices: Spread butter or oil on one side of each slice (this will be the outer side when assembling). Place half of the slices buttered side down and spread cream cheese on the opposite side. Layer caramelized onions, biltong, and cheese on top. Cover with the remaining slices, butter side up.
4. Grill the braai broodjies, turning often, in a closed grill or frying pan over moderate heat until golden brown on the outside and the cheese is melted.
TIP: Keep opening and closing the grill lid intermittently to prevent sticking.
5. Once done, cut in half and serve immediately with salad or your preferred meat.
to Laugh The Ultimate Mental Wellness Hack!
In a world that often feels like a pressure cooker of stress and responsibilities, finding moments of levity and laughter can be a game-changer for mental wellbeing. As the age-old adage goes, laughter is indeed the best medicine. But what if you could combine laughter with self-care in a way that not only lightens the mood but also empowers and uplifts? Enter Rynhardt Schoeman and Jana Jooste, better known as Janey and Waney on TikTok, who are masters of comedy and champions of mental health.
“We say that laughter is the best medicine, but that’s not true,” Janey quips. “Having a glass of wine with your best friend WHILE laughing is! For us, just sharing what’s on your mind over a glass of sauvignon blanc is one of the best forms of self-care!” With their infectious humour and relatable banter, Janey and Waney have carved out a niche audience on TikTok, where they use comedy as a tool for navigating the complexities of self-care and mental health.
Their secret recipe for injecting humour into everyday life, even in the face of challenges, lies in their commitment to showing up and pushing through. “We do have days when we don’t feel like creating content, especially not comedy! But we have found that by showing up and pushing through, it almost always
leaves us feeling better afterwards,” Waney shares. It’s this dedication to finding the humour in life’s ups and downs that sets Janey and Waney apart as comedic geniuses.
As masters of comedy on TikTok, Janey and Waney have some top tips for using laughter to combat stress and empower women to chase their dreams. “Our content is predominantly in Afrikaans, and we often showcase typical Afrikaans stereotypes,” Janey explains. “Our audience sees themselves in our content and will end up laughing at themselves thinking ‘that’s me’!” By creating content that resonates with their audience and celebrates their quirks and idiosyncrasies, Janey and Waney are able to spread joy and encouragement far and wide.
But it’s not all fun and games. Janey

and Waney are no strangers to the darker side of social media, where negative comments and criticism can sometimes take their toll. However, they’ve found a clever way to turn negativity into comedy gold. “We often respond to negative comments in a ‘tongue in cheek’ way,” Janey reveals. “And often, the person who left the negative comment ends up following us!”
Despite the pressures of creating content that’s both uproariously funny and authentically empowering, Janey and Waney make sure to prioritise their own mental wellbeing. “We spend a lot of time creating content for social media, but sometimes, the best thing we can do for our mental wellbeing is to SWITCH OFF,” Waney emphasises. “It’s important for us to take a day here and there where we take a break from social media and everything that comes with it. It really helps to recharge our (mental and phone) batteries.”
And the impact of their comedy extends far beyond the confines of social media. “We get SO MANY
messages saying that our videos have helped someone cope through a difficult time,” Janey says. “Be it a divorce or just a really bad day, it’s an incredible feeling to know that you’ve helped put a smile on someone’s face when there was not much to smile about.”
In a world often filled with seriousness, Janey and Waney remain committed to spreading joy and encouraging women to embrace their quirks and dreams. “Don’t be so hard on yourself,” they advise. “If you didn’t manage to ‘do it all’ today, that’s okay.” With their trademark humour and infectious positivity, Janey and Waney are leading the charge for a world where laughter reigns supreme and self-care is anything but boring.
So, as we look forward to more belly laughs and empowering content from Janey and Waney, one thing’s for sure: when it comes to self-care, laughter truly is the best medicine. And with Janey and Waney leading the way, we can all find a reason to smile, even on the toughest of days.

To everyone who faces adversity with courage, embraces their strength, and chooses themselves: You’re a beacon of hope and resilience. #ChooseYou to honour the beautiful, resilient, extraordinary YOU.
Vanes-Mari du Toit
Choosing myself means constantly pushing my personal limits. It’s not about competing with others, but challenging and competing with who I am. Stepping out of my comfort zone to grow satisfies my ambitions, allowing me to fill my cup and pour into others. You can’t give from an empty cup, so building myself up enables me to elevate others.

#ChooseYou means taking care of my mental health. As a mom, it’s important for me to feel my best so that I can be the best mom to my 2 boys.
Warrior Ric
Choosing isn’t always simple, especially with endless options. But when we weigh the personal benefits combined with the impact on a troubled world, the decision becomes clear. Choose yourself. Opt to be your best self. Even if it’s unpopular or doesn’t earn many likes or followers, choose yourself. As you focus on self-improvement, the right people will rally behind your aspirations. Choose yourself because your distinct talents illuminate today’s gloom, paving the way for a brighter tomorrow. #ChooseYou.

#ChooseYou means doing more things that make me happy, and getting rid of the things that don’t!
Corli Prinsloo
Life is all about choices. Choose your own way, choose your own happiness, choose to live, no matter what season you find yourself in. It should be a phrase that encourages you to make your own decisions and take ownership of your own life. Choose yourself first every day, every time, because when you #ChooseYou, you also start attracting everything that is choosing you!
Hanna Grobler
To be a mom is the most selfless job you will ever find yourself in. Combine that with charity work and there’s very little time left for you. But to be 100% percent in my career, mom life and our organisation, Hanna Charity, I need to make time for things that energise me...Being creative, exercise, spending time with close friends. #ChooseYou in your busy schedule every day, so you can be a better person to those around you.
Gerda van Schalkwyk
I choose womanhood, embracing my uniqueness. #ChooseYou. Each day, I prioritise myself by rising early to meditate for 10 minutes. Then, I dedicate time to fitness— walking, pilates, gym, or boxing. Following my morning routine, I focus on self-care, grooming, and styling. Finally, I cherish moments with girlfriends, sharing wine and camaraderie, fostering mutual importance and connection. By choosing myself, I become better for those around me.
Annelie Bouwer
#ChooseYou is about having the courage to lead the life you want and not what the world says. We hear it each time we get on the airplane. “In case of a cabin pressure emergency, put on your own oxygen mask first before assisting others.” You can’t help others for very long if you don’t take care of yourself first. What if, in life, you metaphorically put your oxygen mask on first, not because you’re selfish, but because you can do more -- for others and for yourself -- if you prioritise your own needs, mental health, and happiness.
Zaakirah Khaalek
Choosing yourself means recognising your worth, prioritising your needs, and embracing your strengths and passions. It’s about self-care, self-respect, and self-empowerment. Choosing yourself means listening to your inner voice, pursuing your dreams, and standing up for what you believe in, even when it’s not the easiest path. It’s about honouring your journey and taking ownership of your life, embracing both the challenges and the triumphs along the way.
Jenny van Dyk
Choosing myself means tuning into the voice inside that says I’m capable, I’m worthy, and I can conquer challenges. It’s also about tuning out the negative voice that says the opposite. This self-dialogue is crucial because you’re your own most frequent conversationalist. What you tell yourself can shape your path, and I choose to empower myself to become who I’m meant to be.

Life is all about choices. I choose me. I indulge in dinners alone, buy myself flowers, and live each day as if it’s my last. Living freely, feeling lighter, happier—all because I’ve chosen myself.
Vuvu Zongo
Choosing yourself is vital for personal growth, happiness, and fulfillment. It’s important to prioritise your needs, goals, and wellbeing in order to lead a fulfilling life. To choose yourself in daily life, practice self-care, set boundaries, pursue your passions, and prioritise activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. Remember to listen to your inner voice, trust your instincts, and make choices that align with your values and aspirations. By prioritising selfawareness and selfcare, you can cultivate a greater sense of purpose and satisfaction in your daily life. Leading a present life comes from depositing in your own cup. #ChooseYou

I’ve come to understand that I’m the one I’ve been waiting for. No one can save you like you can, and no one knows you better than you know yourself. That’s why I’ve always made the choice to prioritise myself.
to Champion Change
Hardship and inequality often characterise the world today, but there are individuals who emerge as beacons of hope, embodying the spirit of compassion and empowerment.
Hanna Grobler, founder and owner of the Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation, stands at the forefront of this movement, catalysing positive change and transforming communities one initiative at a time.
Hanna’s journey towards founding the Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation was not scripted; rather, it unfolded organically from a deepseated desire to alleviate suffering and make a tangible difference in the lives of those less fortunate. From childhood, Hanna harboured a fervent aspiration to address poverty and inequality, igniting a passion that would shape her future endeavours. Her journey began with small acts of kindness, reaching out to street children and communities in need during her time as a student at Stellenbosch University.
Upon relocating to Pretoria, Hanna’s dedication to community development flourished as she immersed herself in the impoverished community of Elandspoort. Despite warnings from others, she ventured forth, initiating projects and forging deep connections with the residents. What started as humble endeavours evolved into comprehensive community development initiatives, laying the foundation for the Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation. Recognising the impact of her work, a member of the Women’s Parliament facilitated the formal registration of the foundation, cementing its status as a beacon of hope for marginalised communities.
Central to Hanna’s mission is the unwavering belief in the transformative power of empowerment. She firmly advocates for action over mere rhetoric, embodying Gandhi’s timeless dictum, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Through her initiatives, Hanna empowers individuals to reclaim their dignity and purpose, fostering a ripple effect of positive change throughout communities.
One hallmark of the foundation’s work is the implementation of dropoff bins, which serve as conduits for donations to be channelled directly to areas of need. This streamlined approach ensures that resources are utilised effectively, addressing the specific needs of each community served by the foundation.
At the heart of the Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation lies a diverse
array of projects and initiatives aimed at uplifting women and communities. From soup kitchens and clothing banks fostering economic independence, the foundation empowers individuals to chart their own paths towards a brighter future.
For many years, the SPAR Women’s Challenge has been a steadfast advocate of Hanna’s initiatives, reflecting their belief in supporting the communities they serve. Through various projects, including the distribution of sanitary products, SPAR empowers women in impoverished communities by addressing their very basic needs. Recognising the transformative potential of the race, she seized the opportunity to uplift women from impoverished communities, instilling in them a sense of accomplishment and empowerment.
Balancing her roles as an actress, philanthropist, and mother, Hanna embodies the art of multitasking with grace and determination. Despite the demands of her various roles, she remains steadfast in her commitment to effecting positive change. By leveraging her platform in the entertainment industry, Hanna amplifies awareness for her charitable endeavours, inspiring others to join the cause of social upliftment.
Throughout her journey with the Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation, Hanna has encountered countless moments of profound impact and transformation. Hanna’s
choice to embrace the overlooked and marginalised embodies our theme #ChooseYou. By standing with those most neglected, she finds empowerment and purpose, demonstrating that true strength lies in uplifting others.
Looking ahead, Hanna envisions a future where the foundation continues to expand its reach and impact, touching the lives of even more individuals and communities in need. With unwavering dedication and a steadfast belief in the potential for positive change, Hanna Grobler stands as a guiding light in the quest for a more equitable and compassionate society.

Choosing the right sock for Challenge Day
Choosing the right running socks depends on factors like material, fit, cushioning, and moisturewicking abilities. Look for moisturewicking materials like merino wool or synthetic blends to keep your feet dry and prevent blisters. Consider cushioning based on your preferences and the type of terrain you’ll be running on. Fit is crucial; make sure the socks are snug but not too tight to avoid rubbing and blisters. Finally, consider features like seamless toes and arch support for added comfort and performance.
An Empowering Journey
In a tumultuous journey marked by abuse and resilience, Martha Mapula Ramarwalo found herself trapped in a toxic relationship with her late husband. Despite enduring escalating abuse, including the loss of a child during pregnancy, Martha clung to her sense of self-worth and truth. With the support of her children, family, and Falke, she emerged stronger and pursued an education, earning a diploma in Business Management. Now at 50, Martha cherishes the happiness and peace found in remarriage, prioritising her own wellbeing and embracing grandmotherhood. Her story serves as a beacon of hope for victims of genderbased violence, emphasising the importance of choosing oneself and seeking support. Martha’s journey aligns with the theme for this year’s SPAR Women’s Challenge, #ChooseYou, reminding victims that prioritising their wellbeing is essential. Initiatives like SPAR’s support for GBV victims offer resources and empowerment opportunities to those in need, guiding them toward healing and a brighter future.

Your Fitness Journey
In the world of fitness, Adré Muller stands out as a tower of strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. Her journey from grief to greatness is not only inspiring but also a testament to the transformative power of fitness in overcoming life’s challenges.
In the depths of grief, amidst the pain of loss, Adré found solace in an unexpected place: fitness. After the passing of her father, she turned to exercise as a means of coping, and it transformed into the catalyst for her journey from grief to greatness.
Even in her childhood, Adré was no stranger to an active lifestyle. But it wasn’t until the loss of her father that she truly understood the healing power of movement. With each workout, she found a release for her emotions, a way to process her grief, and a path towards healing.
Despite the darkness of loss, Adré’s passion for fitness illuminated a new path for her. Once dreaming of becoming a physiotherapist, she found herself drawn to the idea of helping others through movement and rehabilitation. Little did she know that fitness would not only become her personal therapy but also the foundation of her future endeavours.
As Adré navigated through her fitness journey, she discovered opportunities she never thought possible. Fitness opened doors to five IFBB (International Fitness and BodyBuilding Federation) stage shows last year, where she showcased not only physical strength but also resilience and determination. Each performance was a testament to her journey, a celebration of overcoming obstacles, and a reminder of the power within her.
Today, Adré is on a new path, building a platform as a fitness content creator. By choosing herself and sharing her journey, workouts and insights, she aims to inspire others to harness the power of fitness in their own lives. Her passion for fitness has become the driving force behind her pursuit of success, guiding her towards a future filled with purpose, fulfilment, and endless possibilities.
In every step, every lift, and every
moment of sweat, Adré honours the memory of her father and the strength he instilled in her. Her journey from grief to greatness is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of fitness.
Making Fitness Accessible
Adré believes that the key to making fitness accessible for everyone lies in promoting inclusivity, affordability, education, and community support. Social media serves as a valuable platform for sharing health and nutrition ideas, facts, and myths, making fitness more accessible to a broader audience.
To make fitness affordable for all, Adré and her coach offer 8-week challenges that promote lifestyle changes with a support platform and exercise ideas tailored to suit different lifestyles. By making fitness accessible and affordable, Adré strives to empower individuals to prioritise their health and wellbeing.

Unrealistic expectations: Set achievable, measurable goals to avoid frustration and disappointment.
Staying Motivated
Adré emphasises the importance of discipline over motivation in maintaining a regular fitness routine. While motivation may provide an initial spark, discipline is what keeps you going

Glenrose Xaba: Tshwane’s sweetheart and Grand Prix Supercharger
As the SPAR Grand Prix continues to electrify the South African athletics scene, one name stands out –Glenrose Supercharge Xaba. With a captivating blend of speed, endurance, and sheer determination, Xaba has cemented her status as a force to be reckoned with in road running.
A Glimpse into Xaba’s Athletic Prowess
Her style is a symphony of speed and endurance. From the lightningfast 800 metres to the gruelling halfmarathon, Xaba’s versatility knows no bounds: In the blink of an eye, she has conquered the 800 metres in 2 minutes and 8 seconds, a testament to her raw speed. Then, with unwavering determination, she navigates the twists and turns of the 1500 metres in a mere 4 minutes and 20 seconds, leaving spectators in awe.
But Xaba’s journey extends far beyond the confines of the track. In the realm of distance, she blazes through the 10,000 metres in 32 minutes and 4 seconds, a testament to her endurance and mental fortitude. And in the halfmarathon, she writes her name in the annals of history, crossing the finish line in a remarkable 68 minutes and 32 seconds.
A Champion’s Pedigree
Yet, Xaba’s story is not just one of personal bests; it is a saga of dominance etched in the sands of time. Across the nation, she reigns supreme, her name synonymous with victory: With ten national titles in the 10,000 metres, 5 in the 10 kilometres, and another 5 in the half-marathon, Xaba’s pedigree is unmatched.
But her dominance transcends borders, as she leaves an indelible mark on the international stage:
In 2018, she stood atop the podium as the SPAR Grand Prix champion, a testament to her prowess on the road. On the world stage, she has
proudly represented her country, participating in the World Cross Country Championships five times and earning three appearances in the World Half Marathon Championships.
She supercharged to first place in this year’s first SPAR Grand Prix race and showed initial dominance in this series with her 32:17 win over the rest of the field.
The SPAR Grand Prix: Empowering Women’s Sports for 17 Years:
The SPAR Women’s 10km Grand Prix series, now in its 17th year, continues to go from strength to strength and is now firmly established as a crucial part of women’s athletics in South Africa.
The prize money is outstanding, with the overall winner of the SPAR Grand Prix taking home R200 000. The runnerup will receive R100 000 and the third placed athlete will win R75 000. This, of course, is additional to the substantial prize money for each individual race. The 2024 SPAR Grand Prix prize money purse totals R2 million.
This stands as a testament to SPAR’s unwavering commitment to empowering women’s sports in South Africa. Since its inception, the Grand Prix has provided a platform for top athletes like Glenrose Xaba to showcase their talents and fostered a culture of inclusivity and excellence
within the sporting community.
SPAR National PR, Communications & Sponsorships Manager, Mpudi Maubane says the SPAR Grand Prix and Women’s Challenge Series prove that the SPAR Group is not just paying lip service to women empowerment issues but is actively charting a course to become a leader in the South African transformational agenda by diversifying inclusion and industrialisation in the economy and society at large. “We take pride in our sponsorship of the SPAR Grand Prix, the countries and continent’s leading women-only road
running series,” said Maubane.
“Through this investment, we not only empower but also encourage women of all walks of life to lead and live a healthy lifestyle. “Our comprehensive strategy acts as a radar to identify short—and long-term opportunities within our communities, and by working together with other stakeholders, we seek ways of addressing them.
“The SPAR Grand Prix complements our SPAR Women’s Challenge events held in the major centres of South Africa. Through the SPAR Grand Prix, we celebrate excellence in all age groups and reward dedicated runners with substantial prize money to help them develop their running careers,” said Maubane.
Glenrose Xaba: A Champion’s Perspective:
Reflecting on the significance of the SPAR Grand Prix, Glenrose Xaba shares her thoughts on what the event means to her and her fellow female athletes in South Africa, particularly financially. “The Grand Prix, sponsored by SPAR,
has been instrumental in providing financial support to female athletes like myself,” says Xaba. “It not only rewards our hard work and dedication on the track but also helps alleviate some of the financial burdens that come with pursuing a career in professional sports.”
For Xaba and many others, the SPAR Grand Prix is a beacon of hope, offering opportunities for advancement and empowerment in a field where women’s voices and achievements often go unrecognised. “Beyond the prize money,” Xaba adds, “the Grand Prix symbolises progress and equality in sports, paving the way for future generations of female athletes to thrive and succeed, demonstrating the positive impact when big brands like SPAR play their part in the development and support of athletes.”
Women are the real architects of society.
