The film’s producer, Cynde Harmon, along with director Nino Jacusso from Switzerland will introduce the film and participate in a Q & A following the screening. Freeze Frame’s Media Zone will open its doors immediately after the screening. Check it out!

Festival Close 2:30 pm, Sunday March 8th Join us for the Closing Ceremony and Reception! The 2015 Youth Jury will present their choice for the Festival’s best short film, best feature film and best documentary. Then, it’s the Festival’s final screening with special guest Gioia Smid from the Netherlands who will introduce her film Pim and Pom, the Big Adventure / Pim & Pom: Het Grote Avontuur. Following a Q & A session after the screening, there will a closing reception. Admission is free and all are welcome!

Freeze Frame’s Youth Jury presents Festival Awards The Youth Jury provides young people between the ages of 9 and 14 with the opportunity to develop their skills as film critics. The members of the Youth Jury will attend a workshop on film criticism presented by Alison Gillmor, meet our guest artists, and view all the films in the Festival. At the Closing Ceremony on Sunday March 8th, the jury members will announce winners in the categories of Best Short Film, Best Documentary and Best Feature Film. 4 Freeze Frame 2015

Clôture du festival 14h30, dimanche 8 mars Rejoignez-nous pour la cérémonie de clôture et la réception. Le Jury des jeunes 2015 présentera ses choix pour le meilleur court-métrage du Festival, le meilleur long-métrage, et le meilleur documentaire. Le jury laissera ensuite la place à la projection finale du Festival avec l’invitée d’honneur Gioia Smid, venue des Pays-Bas pour présenter son film « Pim and Pom, the Big Adventure / Pim & Pom: Het Grote Avontuur ». Le Jury des jeunes présente les prix du festival Le Jury des jeunes donne à sept jeunes âgés de 9 à 14 ans la possibilité de développer leurs compétences en tant que critiques de film. Les membres du Jury des jeunes assisteront à un atelier sur la critique de film présenté par Alison Gillmor. Ils rencontreront nos artistes invités, et regarderont tous les films du Festival. Puis, à la cérémonie de clôture, le dimanche 8 mars, ils annonceront le gagnant pour chaque catégories : Meilleur court-métrage, Meilleur documentaire, et Meilleur long-métrage.

Greetings & Welcome! Salutations et mots de bienvenue Nicole Matiation, Présidente du conseil d’administration 19 ans après avoir co-fondé Freeze Frame, je reviens comme présidente, et je me pose la question: est-ce qu’un festival de films comme Freeze Frame est encore pertinent dans l’ère de l’Internet ? Et ma réponse est oui! Plus que jamais. D’abord parce que même si on trouve beaucoup de chose en ligne, on ne trouve pas tout. Pas même 10% des films présentés à Freeze Frame sont ou seront disponibles en ligne. Et deuxièmement, parce que rien ne remplace l’expérience humaine de visionner un film dans une salle avec d’autres personnes, rien ne remplace le contact direct, dans les ateliers entre les professionnels du cinéma et les jeunes. Oui, l’Internet est un outil formidable, mais il ne remplacera pas un Festival de cinéma.

Already 19! Freeze Frame is leaving its teen years with a splash: 17 brand new films from 11 countries and some classic gems from the National Film Board; special guest artists from Switzerland, the Netherlands and Canada, as well as an extensive hands-on workshop roster, the Media Zone, and Reel Jobz. It’s good to be 19! At the helm, we have a dynamic mix of experience and new blood both in the office and on the Board. Together, we look forward to welcoming new and returning audiences of young people, students, teachers, parents, grandparents and film lovers in the theatres and workshop rooms at 340 Provencher Boulevard.

Déjà 19 ans ! Freeze Frame achève son adolescence en beauté : 17 nouveaux films de 11 pays différents et des perles de l’Office National du Film ; des invités d’honneur venus de Suisse, des Pays-Bas et du Canada, ainsi qu’une programmation d’ateliers pratiques considérable, la Zone des médias et Opportunité industRÉEL. C’est formidable d’avoir 19 ans ! En tête de Freeze Frame nous avons un mélange dynamique d’expérience et de sang neuf, à la fois dans le bureau et au conseil d’administration. Ensemble, nous avons hâte d’accueillir à nos projections et à nos ateliers de nouveaux publics et des publics qui nous connaissent déjà : élèves, enseignants, parents, grand-parents, cinéphiles... Nicole Matiation, Board President Nineteen years after co-founding Freeze Frame, I am back as Board chair, and I had to ask myself — is a film festival like Freeze Frame still pertinent in an online world? My answer is yes! More than ever. First, because although you can find a lot of material online, you can’t find everything — not even 10% of the films showing at Freeze Frame are or will be available on the Internet. And second, because nothing can replace the immediacy of watching a film with other people and nothing can replace the value of direct interaction between media production professionals and young people in workshops and at screenings. Yes, the Internet is a valuable tool and portal to the world, but it will never replace film festivals.

For nearly two decades, Freeze Frame has not only hosted the well-loved Festival, but provided quality year-round bilingual programming and workshops. The Festival blends stories from around the world with the technical arts, and promotes culture and diversity. Cynde Harmon

Cynde Harmon is producer and co-owner of ‘Really Real Films,’ a feature film and television production company based in Vancouver, BC, since 1998. Cynde and partner Allan Harmon develop, finance and produce independent film and television projects for the domestic and international marketplace.

Cynde Harmon est la productrice et copropriétaire de “Really Real Films” compagnie de production de télévision et de longs-métrages basée à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique, depuis 1998. Avec son partenaire Allan Harmon, ils développent, financent et produisent des films indépendants et des projets de télévision pour le marché intérieur et international.

With an educational background in finance from Ryerson University, Cynde’s film career has included accounting, production management and producing. She is actively involved in mentoring emerging producers.

Nino Jacusso

Nino Jacusso was born in 1955 in Acquaviva Collecroce, Italy. He has joint Swiss and Italian citizenship. In 1960, he emigrated to Switzerland. He studied film and television at the HFF (Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen), in Munich. Over the last four decades he has directed several short and feature films, drama and documentaries. He also teaches film and media education. He is a specialist in directing non-professional actors.

Gioia Smid Gioia Smid has been the custodian of popular Dutch illustrator Fiep Westendorp’s work for more than ten years in her role as artistic director of the Fiep Amsterdam Company. She has written several books about Westendorp and has also organised many exhibitions of her work, both nationally and internationally. Gioia was responsible for the direction of 52 episodes of the animated Pim & Pom television series and is the director of the animated feature based on the feline characters.

Nino Jacusso Nino Jacusso est né en 1955 à Acquaviva Collecroce en Italie; il est de nationalités italienne et suisse. Il a émigré en Suisse en 1960. Il a étudié le film et la télévision à la HFF (Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen) de Munich. Gioia Smid Depuis plus de 10 ans, Gioia Smid est la gardienne du travail de Fiep Westendorp en tant que directrice artistique de l’entreprise Fiep Amsterdam. Elle a écrit plusieurs livres sur Fiep Westerndorp et a également organisé nombres d’expositions de son travail, à l’échelle à la fois nationale et internationale.
