EDITOR’S NOTE Thats a wrap! I can’t believe this Hare Scramble season is coming to a close. Where did the time go? When this issue comes out people will be loading up and getting ready to finish the season at the FTR Benefit race in Bartow. Unfortunately, with some lost properties this season was cut short to just ten races, instead of the usual 13 or 14. You can definitely tell the difference with the missing races!

I want to know what you guys are going to do with this “extended” offseason. Is anyone planning on doing some out-of-state races this summer? Any body going to try the last FTR enduro up in April 2022
Georgia this june? For me I wil be taking a little time off before getting ready for the Perry Mountain 24 Hour Challenge in early June. This is an incredible event and I have already seen quite a few FTR teams signed up! Our team, Ol’ Red Factory Fresh Racing, is looking to repeat as Expert class winners with myself, Tommy Hill, Joey Medina, Shawn Clark, Clay Lyons and Martin Cox. Feel free to send me an email with your plans for this offseason! I’d love to hear from you! Kurt Lucas

PREZ SAYS such a well organized, strong and healthy organization, this could not be maintained without the dedication of our clubs, officials and volunteers. So much time goes into discussing, planning and making decisions for the betterment of FTR that it is almost like a second job; in fact it is a second job only there’s no golden parachute.
Winding Down As we get closer to our last couple events, I sometimes wonder where the time has gone. It’s seems like just last month our season was just getting started and everyone was excited to get out to the first event. Whether it was the opening round of the Enduro season or the first Hare Scramble, everyone was ready to rumble with new gear, bikes and new rigs. Many new families experienced their first encounter with FTR and have become part of one of the biggest families in off road sports. While I am always reminded on how very fortunate all of us are to have
Failure leads to success as growing pains do arise, but the commitment FTR has to being the best and/or delivering the best is second to none. I mention all of this as FTR has accepted another “Organizer of the Year Award” from the AMA. This is something we can all be proud of and the fact that being the largest amateur off road organization the AMA has speaks volumes from our members, clubs and all that make the wheels turn. As we gather in the pastures, keep in mind FTR is your organization and it is only as good as you make it, being respectful, following established pit rules and just doing the right thing will make everyone’s job a little less stressful and will create an atmosphere for an enjoy-

able weekend. Speaking of enjoyable weekends, our banquet is just around the corner and things are already in the works. Our FTR benefit race will help enhance our banquet, scholarship and a lot of extras this year. We are bringing back the vendor area this year with a full house of committed vendors bringing new and current products along with some deals to help you get the edge on the upcoming season. The rooms are going fast and the tickets will go even faster this year so don’t procrastinate. I Hope everyone has had a super great time this year and hope to see everyone at the benefit race. Thanks for listening, Randy Faul

Starting Line to Checkered Flag… “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 The season is winding up with our final race on the weekend of April 30 – May 1. All of us are looking forward to summer with beach trips, vacations and of course riding! I ask you to consider a little quiet time as well. Our bodies and spirits need to reflect, recharge and restore. In Isaiah 40:27-31, the people were complaining that God didn’t care about them anymore. “Why would you ever complain… or, whine, …saying, “God has lost track of me. He doesn’t care what happens to me”? Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening?
God doesn’t come and go. God lasts. He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine. He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath. And he knows everything, inside and out. He energizes those who get tired, gives fresh strength to dropouts. For even young people tire and drop out, young folk in their prime stumble and fall. But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind. I know some riders, especially those closer to my age, that would be thrilled not get tired or lag behind! Remember, when you’re out on the course, in the heat of it, God is right there with you, encouraging, lifting you up, leading the way. All you have to do is seek Him.
a future.” Finally, the promise of renewing and restoration comes directly through a personal relationship with Jesus. 1 Peter 5:10, “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. So, take some time off this summer. Rest, reflect, renew and let God restore!!! For the younger ones, if you want to improve your skills, Fuel is offering a rider’s camp, June 6-10 on the Daytona Dirt Riders property. For more information contact Mark Nichols at (502) 889-0874. This will be an outstanding opportunity. Please check it out. Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston CMA
During your time of reflection this summer, consider what God wants for you. In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and

Enduro Committee Meeting Minutes from 03/09/22 Old Business Second Votes Summary of Proposal (What is to be accomplished) The current Tie-Break system for Enduros no longer fits the set up of the races today vs when the Tie-Break was voted in. This past racing season, COVID year and only 4 Enduros counted toward end of year awards 4 class ties existed. The current Tie-Break system is going outside the class and uses overall race placement. This seems unfair in that other riders in different classes can determine class winner for the year. Proposed Solution (Write rule in exact detail how it should be incorporated into the rule book. Include every section of the rule book the proposal will affect) Page 17 5. Year-end ties in Enduros are to be broken within the class or overall that the tie exist using the following steps: 1. The rider with the most 1st places will be the higher placed rider in year-end standings, if the tie still exist, then the rider with the most 2nd and so forth until broken using their 70% runs. 2. If a tie still exist, then the last head to head race will determine the higher placed rider. 3. If no head to head race between the tied riders then both will be awarded the same position. Year-end ties are not broken in Hare Scrambles or Quad Scrambles. Motocross year end ties are broken by best moto finishes during the season. Yes: Unanimous New Business A. HAULIN’ TAIL RACE REPORT Photos by Jamey Perdue The penultimate round of the Florida Trail Riders Hare Scramble season took place just west of Dade City, Florida. The property received some much-needed rain during the week and track conditions were stellar. The Nature Coast Trail Blazers put together a great course with a ton of variety, they were able to limit the amount of field sections from years past keeping the overall speed down and the flow to a maximum. Hats off to the club for putting on another great event, this race has become a favorite for many racers over the year.
Huge thanks to the guys and gals over at Motorcycle Enthusiasts for bringing out some Beta Motorcycles for everyone to demo. This provided some fun for those just hanging around on Saturday. Any chance to ride, and try new bikes, on a race weekend will be well received. The Saturday course featured the typical fast flow that we see at this event with some more technical sections thrown in. The trail featured a few slippery, black dirt, rooty trails that forced the racers to use their throttle control skills.
FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS
This section definitely provided a challenge. My favorite thing about this course is the club’s ability to bring the riders by the main spectating areas multiple times a lap, this allows for parents, friends and family to see their riders at different points on the track. I know those worried mothers really appreciated it! There was a Hare Scramble Committee meeting on Saturday night, and this was the biggest one I have seen. A lot of members came out to check it out, voice their opinions and see how these types
of things work. It was truly great to see; a lot of members may not understand how some of these big decisions in FTR are made. I encourage everyone to come out and sit-in at a committee meeting. Another popular event at the FTR races is the Stacyc and Strider races on Saturday nights. There are so many little ones out there having fun on these little machines. The future of FTR is getting started at such a young age and it is great to see. Not to mention once these kids get on the actual Peewee track, we will be seeing some very talented riders. Thanks to all who help to put this particular event on.

The Sunday course featured a lot of Saturday with some incredible single track thrown in the mix. The last three miles were so fun with some challenging obstacles and some slick spots thrown in. One of the more popular features of the course was a creek jump laid out by the Lyons family. This easy/ hard featured two lines that forced you to jump a small creek and then make a sharp left before going back through the creek. This was a very popular spot for spectators as the creek claimed a few unlucky victims. There was also an easy/ hard split that featured a large dirt mound, it is always nice when a club can utilize some of the unique features on the property.
April 2022
The moisture in the dirt allowed for optimum traction, but at the same time it created a lot of chop on the course. Some spots were nothing but braking and acceleration bumps, which wore out the racers. Course workers faced their challenges with the root sections constantly changing, mud holes developed out of nowhere which forced them to contantly reroute. The few bad sections were different every lap and I commend them on their efforts. All in all, it was an incredible event thank you to Nature Coast Trail Blazers and all who made it happen.

CATCHING UP: CLARK MYERS Story by Austin Lasure FCS Racing team owner Austin Lasure sits down with one of the fastest up and coming A Open riders and team rider for FCS racing Clark Myers and talks a bit about diet and racing. Specifically Clarks newfound “Plant Based” diet. This is a fast growing trend in the world and highlighted with a kickoff from the Netflix series “Game Changers” which particularly speaks on endurance athletes and plant based diets. Let take a dive into this and see what’s the deal? Austin- Hey Clark, thanks for helping us all learn about some new things going on out there and sharing your insights on what you personally have going on. Clark - Hey Austin, I’ll do what I can! I’m no expert in nutrition, but I’ve done some research on Plant Based diets and feel like I have a good grasp on it. Austin- So lets start off with the obvious question. What is a plant based diet? Clark- First off, plant based doesn’t mean you’re vegetarian or vegan people often jump straight to that conclusion. Plant Based means you proportionately choose more food from plant sources rather than animal products. For example: Almond milk instead of cow milk, black bean burger instead of beef burgers. In todays time there is a substitute for just about everything out there! Austin- What made you decide to try this partic
ular diet? Clark- Well… One day I was talking to my friend Karl Davis Jr. He is a well known trials rider throughout the U.S., killer mountain bike rider, and he’s in excellent physical condition. Anyways… Karl was telling me about a documentary on Netflix called “The Game Changers”. This documentary showcases many plant based athletes, from Olympic power lifters to triathletes. Austin- That’s funny to hear considering we got turned on through the same documentary. Not to say we haven’t looked for other documentaries as well supporting eating meat. We have not found any that peaked our interest in the same manner. How long have you been doing it now and what have you seen as the results? Clark- Well, like most people we started this eating style on January 1st of 2022. However, this is probably the longest I’ve stuck to a diet in a very long time! Usually a diet will last a week or two then it starts to slowly go away. Austin- I would agree with you there and have to say the same usually happens to me. Now I myself am on a plant based diet and have been since last year so I will throw a few questions that I am commonly asked your way. Number 1 question I see is where do you get your protein?
FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS
Clark - That’s a great question! Most people ask this and I typically ask, where do cows get protein? I learned from Game Changers that cows and other animals get their natural proteins from plants and soy based products. Typically we get our protein from products like tofu, chickpeas, quinoa and beans. I also mix a protein powder and fruit smoothie in my day too. Austin- I have found Mexican restaurants to be quite easy to work with. Do you find it difficult to find options throughout your day to day or even race weekends, camping and travelling periods? Clark- Meal prep, meal prep, meal prep! It’s a pain but without prepping it’s very tough to find meals on the go. Recently our “go to” is chipotle. They have a bunch of plant based options, it’s fairly adorable and the guacamole is on point!
ing any individuals dietary choices and just share this to offer an insight into it. I have tried Paleo, Keto and some other things and for me I have seen some great benefits with this diet but it is really cool to sit down and talk about your diet with you, a clear competitor in the front of the stacked A Open class a very premier class to compete in. Thanks again for your insights and we look forward to seeing you on the box! Clark- I totally agree! This diet might not be for everyone but it certainly helped me and gave me the motivation I needed to get clean up my eating.
Austin- Great advice! Have you had any negative effects thus far into your newfound diet? Clark- Honestly, not really. It’s not the most convenient thing but we’re figuring it out as we go. Austin- It definitely has some hard pressed moments on convenience but I have also found a newer refreshed love for vegetables and the favor they bring to a meal. Where is a good place From Left to Right: Max McNary, Clark Myers, Josh for anyone interested in finding out more to learn Tolken and Nick Doerr more about this? Clark- Definitely take an hour and a half and watch “The Game Changers”. It might just change how you look at this style of eating! If you’re feeling froggy try it for a week or even two. Austin- Thanks again for sharing your insights man! This is just one of the ways racers are looking to exercise the best in taking care of themselves on and off the bike. I personally don’t have any feelings promoting or condemn-
