EDITORS NOTE Man! It feels good to be back at the races! By the time you read this we will have three Hare Srambles and two Enduros completed and back into the swing of things! I just realized this will be my fourth issue of the FTR Magazine and I have yet to introduce myself. Well, my name is Kurt Lucas and I have been racing FTR since 1997. I live to be at the races, it is by far my favorite thing to do. A little bit about me: I am originally from Miami but am living in St. Petersburg currently, I race A Open and Pre Modern A and when I am not on the bike you can usually find me hanging out with my dog Mako.

PREZ SAYS tried to incorporate some of our banquet activities into the race weekend with the awards and giveaways, which took on a whole new meaning.

Back in the saddle, FINALLY I’m pretty late with this month’s article (sorry Kurt) but wanted to get our first event in the books before we went to print. I don’t really know where to start as it was an awesome weekend for all of us. First and foremost, thank you to CFTR for setting the bar extremely high for all of the rest of the clubs to try and match. Many months went into the planning and work for this event and it resulted in an epic weekend. A record turnout invaded the property with everyone looking to get back to riding and having fun again after a six month layoff. This event took on a lot of extra planning and the work load was off the chart as we

Speaking of awards, a shout out to the Eastcoast crew of Scott and Michelle Dawson who manned the trailer both days to make sure that our riders received their awards and AMA plates. All the sign up ladies, FTR store/business manager Darlene, Dan handling the AMA, Teresa working the quilt and Moose giveaways and all the people that give so much of their time to make things happen, a big Thank You. Speaking of making things work, I got to give a big “well done” and a Thank You to the FTR Tech crew for handling well over 1000 riders with transponders, numbers, spark arrestors and answering hundreds of questions during the two day event. I’m sure they helped some of you out with a pass or taped up your background to get you to the line, but next event come prepared and have your ducks in a row as you know now what is required and expected.

and will power from the promoting clubs and volunteers. From securing the property, cutting trail in the middle of August to cleaning up and reclaiming the land from the abuse, a lot of time goes into these events. As my clubs event is at the end of Oct, we have been out working since August also and I’m here to tell you that it is absolutely miserably hot and humid, so I can relate to all that CFTR members went through to host their event. The best thing that we can do to show appreciation for all of this work is to leave our campsites clean and tell the clubs Thank You! Let’s all try and be a little more appreciative and be thankful we all have a place to go race. There’s a bunch more races coming up and that means a bunch more work to be done by a lot of volunteers as we are just getting started. Thanks for listening, Randy Faul FTR President

Expanding on this weekend or any race weekend, these events takes a huge amount of time, planning, dedication

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER in thought and purpose.” I witnessed rider after rider, in all the classes, coming across the finish line. I did not see one bad attitude or angry face. We, as a family, were all glad to be back together doing what we love! Starting Line to Checkered Flag… “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 The race at Bartow on September 26th and 27th was amazing! Over 1000 entrees and all were ready to hit the dirt. It was so good to see friends, both old and new. It was awesome just to watch as riders and families celebrated being back together again; a true reunion! Jesus loves reunions and reconciliations. In 1 Corinthians 1:10, the Apostle Paul wrote, “ “I appeal to (ask of) you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions.. Rather, be of one mind, united

We came together after what seemed like a never ending nightmare, COVID-19. Families were happy to be out with other families. Kids were playing together and just being kids! The parents were no longer stressed about being trapped in their own homes. In Malachi 4:6 it says that “He (God) will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers.” You could see the smiles on the faces of the kids and the relief on the faces of the moms and dads.

courage one another”.(Hebrews 10:25). In fact, God goes one step further asking us to “encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Jesus loves reunions. He wants everyone of us back in His saving grace and loving arms. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved”(Acts 16:31). Confess your sins and turn your life over to Him. It is a simple decision that will last an eternity! Betty and I continue to pray for all of our FTR family. We will see you at the next race!! Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston CMA

I walked the pits on Friday and Saturday nights. Friends were gathered around the campfires or the grills just enjoying their time together. God wants us to be together. We are directed to “not neglect to meet together, as is the habit of some, but en-

CFTR PEACE RIVER HARE SCRAMBLE REVIEW The 2020-2021 Florida Trail Riders Hare Scramble season started on a high note at the CFTR Peace River Hare Scramble down in Bartow. With 1057 entries ithis race may have broken the FTR record for attendence. In all my years racing FTR I have never seen so many people at an event, the parking lot was packed and the starting lines were full. One the best things to see were the youth classes being filled up, showing promise for the

future of the dirtbike racing. We had 42 Peewee C riders, 24 65 C and 28 Junior C riders. The Beginner and Sportsman classes were also some of the biggest of the weekend with 53 Beginners, 63 Sportsman 1 and 25 Sportsman 2 riders. Again, this is huge for FTR because it shows how many new riders we are having at our events. I’ll tell you what, the club did a great job in preparing for these numbers. CFTR created some rules for parking (no big circles)

which helped a ton. As I stated earlier the parking lot was absolutley packed and that was with people parking closer than usual. The trail flowed great, with plenty of passing opportunities, something I appreciated in the Saturday 2pm race. I personally thought this was one of the best course layouts at this property. The Saturday course was challenging enough for the fast guys and girls but also friendly to those who are just starting out, the perfect

balance. The course was 90% new for Sunday, something we can all appreciate. The Sunday course featured just about everything from fast, flowy fields to tight single-track. It even had some tricky bridge crossings to keep riders on their toes. I asked a few riders what they thought of the course and this is what they had to say: “Loved it, it flowed great. I liked the open start then the tighter sections then the faster straightaways towards the end, really got to open it up and get after it.” - Garrett Carson, Open B “I thought it was a lot of fun, the most fun in recent years at this property. The track flowed really nice and came together for the 1pm race on Sunday, no dust is always a plus. The tight woods and fast open sections made for some really good racing. The club did an awesome job switching it up in the years past as I noticed some new sections as well, overall great track and conditions for the first round.” - Jett Ryll, 250 A “The track was fast, flowed well, and was a ton of fun. If it wasn’t for the heat, I could have spun laps all day. It held up well all weekend and anyone who didn’t show up, missed out!” - Danny Hill, 250 B

Some riders (Paul Lucas) needed a little help getting their season started “I really loved the technical parts they put in like the hills, and mud sections. They did a nice job adding multiple line choices which allowed for some great passing opportunities.” - Josh Tolken, 250 A At the end of the weekend everyone was all smiles and happy to be back in a cow pasture doing what they love most, riding dirtbikes. CFTR set the bar high for the rest of the series. Next up we head to Palatka for Hog Waller and then back down to the Bartow area for SADRA.

CATCHING UP: GEORGE MOULTON Getting hurt is every rider’s worst nightmare. Unfortunately with our sport it’s not if you get hurt, it’s when you get hurt. So many things go through your mind when you suffer an injury, especially if you are far from home. Luckily for us George Moulton is working on something to help us through that process. Hey George, how are you doing today? Hey Kurt, doing good just got done with the opening round down in Bartow and ready to head to work for the week. We talked a bit at the race about this new venture that you are working on. Can you tell us a little bit about that? Absolutely, so it is called Secure My Medical Records and what it is is a cloud-based medical record storage app. Basically it puts you in control of your medical records. For example if I get hurt in Alabama and it’s a serious issue where they needed to act fast I could share my records

instantly. If they had to contact my doctor down here they might not be able to get the information they need in time. Sounds like something us dirtbike riders could use. How did you get involved with this? I’ve been involved for about two years now. I met the owner through my full-time job down here. We started talking about racing dirtbikes and travelling to all these different states to race and one thing led to another. What is your role with this company? I’m responsible for promotion and distrubition down here in Florida. Almost like a “Regional FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS

Sales & Marketing Rep” if you will. How much is the app and where can people find more information? The app is $10 a month, it is subscription based. It’s one of those things that everyone, not just us dirtbike riders, should have. The app is available for both Android and iPhone. There is a ton of information on our website as well. You can check that out at: securemymedicalrecords.com

747 OFFROAD PRO TIP with Hunter Neuwirth

MENTAL PREPERATION: Mentally preparing yourself for a successful race can be a difficult task to master. Once you can achieve this mindset for success it will unlock a whole new level of confidence that will help you reach your goals. Leading up to a race you want to clear your mind and focus on the riding. Don’t think about the spectators, or your competitors, because you have no control over what anyone else does,

you can only control what you do. Visualization is very important. Before the race starts close your eyes and visualize yourself hitting every line perfectly, getting out front, hitting your shift points, and charging through the track . Doing this will get you prepared to do the real thing. I try not to think about who I am racing against. It doesn’t matter, be-

cause it’s all about how you feel inside. Whethere you are AA or a C rider, to perform your best you have to ride correctly. To do so, you must be 100% focused. If your head is filled with other thoughts about what the other racers are doing, thinking about bike set up, etc you will not have your head totally in the game and therefore, will not have as good of a performance.
