Fuerteventura’s Cabildo confirms its commitment to the island’s primary sector with the celebration of the 35th Agricultural, Livestock, and Fishing Fair of Fuerteventura (FEAGA), which ended on May 14th.

Contests of livestock milking, morphology and presentation took place during the fair that lasted four days and included various events, shows, tastings and sales of local products from the primary sector of the island and the Canaries.

15 livestock farms and more than 80 goats took part in the milking contest. There were various categories, such as manual or mechanical milking and individual animals or groups of four goats.

The livestock farm of Belén Ramírez won in the categories of milking four adult goats and four young goats (after first birth); Juan Pedro Hernández won in the category of individual goat and traditional manual milking in one minute. On the other hand, Blas Gregorio Alonso won in the category of four sterile females.

Morphology contests took place for the sheep and goat categories.

In the morphology contest for the adult male billy-goat category, the first prize went to the specimen of Ribén Curbelo, and the animal presented by Matías Hernández won in the category of young billy-goat.

In the morphology contest of the native breed, Miguel Cano won in the Canarian ewe and Canarian ram categories. In the Peliguey sheep category, Pedro Peña accumulated a double win in the Pelibuey ewe and ram categories.

Peña won the first prize in the local cow and bull categories. He also won in the foreign breed cattle categories, with foreign breed cow and bull.

As for camels, the prize went to the Campo Majorero Museum, which won first and second prizes in this category.

FEAGA also included presentation prizes that are awards given by the jury independently of the species, sex or type of contest, which can be awarded to lots or individual animals, for their morphology or functions.
