TERUMO JINJA SHRINE With 1,300 cherry trees, Nishi Park is one of Fukuoka’s premier hanami spots. At the top of the stairs sits Terumo Shrine, dedicated to Kanbei Kuroda and his son Nagamasa (the first ruler of the Fukuoka Domain). Its location on a strip of land jutting into Hakata Bay affords wonderful vistas of the ocean and the city. Inside the shrine grounds stands a bronze statue of the famous samurai Tahei Bori holding a giant sake cup. The current shrine was rebuilt in 1966 - including the beautiful crane decoration on the ceiling, which sings when you throw money into the donation box.

SPOT SANATORIUM
光雲神社
位於西公園裡的賞櫻景點光雲神社，主要祭祀福岡藩主的黑田官兵 衛和黑田長政。地處博多灣突起的丘陵頂端，可以將福岡市區和博 多灣盡收眼底。社殿是 1966 年再次建立，以福岡民謠「黑田節」為 藍本建造的大銅像，手裡也拿著歌詞裡出現的大杯站立著。做為黑 田氏居住的福岡城，因為彷彿鶴群飛舞的模樣而稱作是舞鶴城，天 花板也描繪著各式鶴的圖案 ；在這裡投錢參拜的時候，好像也能聽 到鶴的聲音呢！
테루모 신사
벚꽃놀이의 명소로도 인기 있는 니시코엔(공원)에 위치한 테루모 신사. 후쿠오카번의 첫 영주였던 쿠로다 나가마사와 그의 아버지를 모신 신사이다. 이곳에서는 후쿠오카 시내와 하카타만을 둘러볼 수 있다. 경내에는 민요 ‘쿠로다부시’의 모델이 된 무사의 큰 동상이 가사에도 등장하는 커다란 잔을 들고 서 있다. 현재의 신사는 1966년에 재건된 것으 로 쿠로다 가 문이 거주했던 후 쿠오 카 성이 학 이 하 늘 을 나 는 듯한 아름다운 모습을 하고 있다 하여 마이즈루성이라 불렸던 데에서 유래한 학 그림이 천장에 그려져 있다. 光雲神社 Terumo Jinja Shrine 13-1 Nishi-koen, Chuo-ku 092-761-1807
Last June, a new gallery/cafe called Sanatorium opened in the subcultural mecca of north Tenjin. It is a branch of the Fushigi Hakubutsukan—a creative space in Nakagawa Town. The white interior features anatomical models, medical devices and the owner’s art. The banana shake, like a barium swallow, comes in a beaker. The sweets change daily and also come in off-the-wall containers. You cannot photograph the nurse uniform-clad staff or some of the exhibits, but this only adds to the cafe’s mystique. The vibe may be weird, but who knows, you might just feel right at home.
Sanatorium - 不思議博物館分室
在福岡次文化商店聚集的北天神街道裡。不思議博物館（那珂川町） 分店─藝廊咖啡廳「Sanatorium」 ，於去年六月開幕由模型家擔任館 長。店裡展示人體模型和醫療器材等館長的作品 ；提供燒杯盛裝的 香蕉奶昔，以及各樣奇怪容器裝著的下午茶點心。店中也販售次文 化原創商品。雖然扮成護士的店員「不思議醬」和部份展示品不能 拍攝，但光是在現場就能品味到一種怪誕有趣的著迷氣氛！
사나트리움
조형작가가 관장인 이상한 박물관의 분실로써 2015년 6월에 탄생한 사나트리움. 내부는 흰색으로 통일되어 있고 인체모형과 의료기구, 관장의 작품 등이 전시되어 있다. 바륨을 떠올리게 하는 바나나 셰이크의 용기는 비커이고 푸딩, 핫케이크 등의 간식류는 오리지널 디자인한 신기한 형태의 용기에 담겨 나온다. 간호사처럼 꾸미고 있는 직원과 전시물의 촬영은 일부 금지되어 있으나 보고만 있어도 이상한 나라에 온 듯한 분위기를 충분히 즐길 수 있다. 서브컬처를 테마로 한 기획전이 열리며 오리지널 굿즈도 판매. サナトリウム - 不思議博物館分室 Sanatorium 3-3-23-3F Tenjin, Chuo-ku 12:00~22:00 Closed: Wed. 092-791-5477

FUKUOKA - THE NOODLE CITY EDO SOBA WABISUKE In the quiet neighborhood of Shirogane, you will find Wabisuke, a soba shop that still grinds its buckwheat by hand with a mortar and pestle. The Yamamotos, the shop’s husband-and-wife owners, buy their high-grade buckwheat direct from the farmers. Some of it is ground by hand for inaka seiro, a special soba made from a mix of buckwheat including crushed whole soba kernels. Only five bowls of this bouncy, hearty soba are available per day. Try a tiny pinch of salt with your first bite to bring out the true flavor. Then continue with salt, or switch to dipping sauce. (Remember: only dip the tips of the noodles; dipping an entire chopstickful is considered gauche.) Soba should be eaten immediately, before it loses its flavor. This is especially true for the sobagaki, a traditional mixture of 100% soba flour and hot water topped with an (sweet bean paste). The owners recommend you savor some sake, graze on a side dish, and then finish off with soba.
江戸蕎麥佗介
位處於都心閑靜佇立的像白金一般，在古民 房中營業的手磨蕎麥麵店 「佗介」 。是由被 「蕎 麥」這個食材衍生出的飲食文化所吸引而踏 上職人之路的山本夫婦經營。直接購買當年 最佳蕎麥，現磨時混入小麥讓口感更加滑順， 便是店裡的招牌「二八蕎麥麵」 。另外也不 能錯過「田舎蒸籠蕎麥麵」 ，加入蕎麥果實 後，手打成每天限定五客的特別蕎麥麵。第 一口先灑點鹽品嚐蕎麥的原味，接著沾點醬 汁來享用吧！記得在煮好剛端出的最美味時 開動。店中的蕎麥團子紅豆湯也別有風味 ； 趁著天還亮的時候，享受著日本酒、下酒菜、 蕎麥麵也是店主相當推薦的偷閒方式。
에도소바 와비스케
메밀에 반해 메밀 장인의 길을 선택한 오너 야마모토씨 부부가 경영 중인 와비스케. 그해 가장 잘된 메밀을 사들여 절구로 가루를 직접 빻아 매일 가게에서 손으로 국수를 뽑아낸다. 일본산 밀가루가 첨가되어 목에서 부드럽게 넘어가 는 니하치 소바가 기본이나 ‘이나 카 세 이 로 ’도 빼 놓 을 수 없 다. 메 밀 껍 질 째 로 절구에서 갈아낸 가루와 검은 외피를 벗겨낸 메밀 열매를 살짝 갈아낸 가루를 반죽해 1일 5인분만 한정판매하는 특별한 소바로 소박한 풍미와 씹히는 맛이 특징. 우선 소금을 살짝 뿌려 메밀 본연의 단맛과 풍미를 느껴보시길. 쭉 소금을 뿌려 먹어도 좋지만 장국에 ‘살짝’ 담 갔 다 먹 어 도 좋 다. 1인 분 씩 삶 아 내 는 소바는 시간이 지나면 풍미가 변하니 나오면 바로 먹는 것이 좋다.

His love of local seafood stems from a part-time job at the Nagahama Seafood Market where he learned that “only fishermen know the true flavor of seafood.” Every day, he visits nearby fishing ports to procure the freshest local seafood and learn the best ways to prepare them from the fishermen. To make sure the true flavors stand center stage, he uses only simple, natural seasonings. If you go to Naniwa, you can’t go wrong with the chef’s choice course. On the first day of this festival, three portable shrines are carried 900 steps (200 m) down Mt. Hikosan. On the second, priests rush them back up to cheering crowds. 做為被崇拜的神山 - 英彥山的修行山道裡，從修行者新年祭演化而 來四月的御神幸祭。第一天是將山腰奉幣殿的三座神轎迅速經過 九百階石階下山 ；第二天則是經過 200m 的險升坡石階將神轎扛上 山，使圍觀者不禁拍手喝采。也為神奉上幼兒舞及獅子舞的演出。
히코산 진구 고진코우사이
신령이 머문다 하여 숭배의 대상으로 여겨지는 히코산에서 열리는 행사. 첫째 날에는 히코산 중턱에서부터 3개의 가마가 약 900단에 이르는 돌계단 을 따 라 내려오며 둘째 날 에는 2 0 0 m 짜 리 급경사 돌계단을 가마를 지고 오르며 관객들의 박수갈채를 자아낸다.

Restaurants with oishii food and good service are easy to find in Fukuoka, and there’s always something new on the foodie scene. Recently, more and more restaurants are hosting events, from guest-chef dinners to cooking classes. Some have adapted their existing layouts and others have been purpose-built with multifunction use in mind. The recently opened Naka Labo, with counter seats overlooking the open kitchen, makes dining out as entertaining as it is gastronomically gratifying.

DASHI
Dashi, a soup stock that forms one of the culinary cornerstones of Japanese cuisine, has always been commonly used in powder or dried-flake form. Around 2005, dashi from Kayanoya, a longestablished soy sauce maker, became a huge hit amongst cooking enthusiasts. Their dashi uses five carefully selected ingredients (all additive-free), and the dashi powder is packaged into sachets, making it convenient yet delicious. Recently more Western-style dashi and vegetable stock are being sold.

Fukuoka Castle Sakura Festival
The Fukuoka Castle Sakura Festival will be held at Maizuru Park from Mar. 25 to Apr. 3. Cherry trees and castle ramparts will be lit up between 18:00 and 22:00, and there will be several food stalls. Coinciding with this, Korokan Plaza will open, and a new section next to the plaza will also be lit up. You can also pay ¥300 to enjoy a special light-up of the castle keep (18+ only).
Revamped Central Children’s Center to Open
On Apr. 1, a new and improved Central Children’s Center (aka Aikuru) for kids of all ages will open on the 5th to 7th floors of Nishitetsu Tenjin Class. Like the old center, kids can enjoy unicycling and roller skating on the rooftop. The 7th floor will have a multipurpose room with mirrors and practice handrails and a sound-proof music room where bands can rehearse. The new spaces are perfect for dancing, crafts and studying. The Fukuoka NPO/Volunteer Exchange Center (aka Asumin) offers consultations and information on NPOs and volunteer opportunities, provides venues for meetings and assists with activities. On Apr. 1, the center will reopen on the 4th floor of Nishitetsu Tenjin Class (1-19-22 Imaizumi) with a bigger and better 80-person seminar room and 10-person meeting room. City Hall is undertaking a variety of measures to alleviate congestion in the city center and promote the use of public transportation. One of these is the Parkand-Ride initiative, a system of parking lots near train stations and bus stops for people transferring to public transport, offered in partnership with Aeon Mall Fukuoka Ito, Konoha Mall Hashimoto and Aeon Mall Kashiihama. Having Trouble? Visit Your Local Ward Office or City Hall
Counselors and a variety of experts are on hand in the Citizen Consultation Sections at City Hall and each Ward Office to help you with your problems free of charge. These sections also distribute 40 tickets for free consultations at the Tenjin Lawyers Center (5 Watanabe-dori, Chuo-ku) starting on the first Friday of every month. Fukuoka City Public Library Hours to Be Extended
The Fukuoka City Public Library (3-7-1 Momochihama) turns 20 this year. In an effort to offer better service, the hours of operation will be extended one hour starting Apr. 1 (Tue. ~ Sat.: 10:00~20:00; Sun./ Hol.: 10:00~19:00). The library is closed on Mondays (or the following weekday if Monday is a holiday) and the last day of every month.
