It’s the month of March, the leaves are turning green, the blossoms are budding and the smell of spring is in the air! We’ve been running around Fukuoka looking for the best places to eat, drink and be merry and we’ve come up with some stunners. Cafe Brasileiro is Fukuoka’s oldest coffee shop, and has been roasting and serving beans imported from Brazil since 1934. We also introduce Todoroki Stand, a chic standing bar with a fine selection of organic wines and local sake. Our noodle pick is Hakata Ratanmen Marutan, originators of a new genre of noodles called ratanmen, a unique combination of Hakata ramen and tantanmen. We have two main features this month. The first is on the Yanagawa Hina Matsuri, one of the most delightful doll festivals in the country, with a water parade, boat tours, sagemon viewing and a special kimono day. The second introduces the area of Chikugo, in southwest Fukuoka Prefecture, with three, two-day road trips for all to enjoy!
