¬¬Trains 철도 There are three systems “Nishitetsu”, “Subway”, and “JR”. The subway links the two city centers, Tenjin and Hakata to the Airport. Take “Nishitetsu” to visit sites such as Dazaifu or Yanagawa. Take “JR” to travel outside Fukuoka to Nagasaki, Beppu and the new Kyushu Shinkansen to Kagoshima. 후쿠오카 시내 철도는 크게 ‘니시테쓰 전철’ ‘지하철’ ‘JR’로 나뉜다. 지하철은 공항과 시내 중심가인 하카타, 덴진을 이어준다. 다자이후나 야나가와 등 관광지는 ‘니시테쓰 전철’를 이용하면 편리하다. 나가사키, 벳푸, 가고시마 등 후쿠오카현 외의 지역을 방문하거나 신칸센을 탄다면 ‘JR’을 이용하자.
¬¬Buses 버스 Go almost anywhere aboard Nishitetsu Bus in Fukuoka City! Rates vary by distance, but are just ¥100 within the ¥100 Bus area (see p. 5 ~ 6 yellow area) including Hakata Sta., Sumiyoshi, Yakuineki-mae, Tenjin and Gofukumachi. Board using the middle doors and get off using the front door. Pay as you get off. 버스의 가운데 문으로 타고, 앞쪽의 문으로 내린다. 운임은 내릴 때 지불.
How to ride 버스 타는 방법 ● Check the destination on the front and side displays of the bus’s exterior. Board via the center doors. ● If paying cash, take a ticket as you board. If you have a nimoca IC card wave it over the sensor, ticket not required. ● Bus stops and fees are displayed on the monitor next to a driver. The fee appears under the ticket number. ● Fees are displayed on the monitor above the driver. Match your ticket number to get your fee. ● Push the stop button to alert the driver that you want to get off at the next stop. ● Drop the fee and your ticket into the box next to the driver and get off from the front door. If you need change, drop cash into the box next to the driver. When you are using nimoca, wave your card above the sensor. ● 버스가 오면 전면이나 승차구 옆의 전광판에 떠 있는 행선지 번호를 확인하고 목적지에 가는 버스가 오면 가운데 문으로 승차한다 ● 현금으로 운임을 지불할 경우에는 승차시에 정리권을 뽑는다. IC카드 [nimoca]를 갖고 있을 때에는 승차 구의 단말기에 카드를 터치한다 (이 경우에는 정리권이 필요 없음). ● 정차하는 버스 정거장 이름과 운임은, 수시로 운전사 옆의 모니터에 표시된다. 갖고 있는 정리권 번호 아래에 표시 되어 있는 것이 운임이다. ● 목적하는 버스 정거장 이름이 모니터에 표시 되고 아나운스가 흐르면 하차 버튼을 누른다. ● 운전사 옆의 박스에 정리권과 정확한 금액의 운임을 넣고, 앞 쪽의 출구로 하차한다. 돈을 바꿔야 할 때에는 동전교환기를 이용하자. (거스름돈이 지급되지 않으므로 미리 동전을 교환해야 한다). nimoca를 갖고 있을 경우에는 내리는 문의 nimoca 단말기에 카드를 터치한다.

¬¬Telephones 전화 Public phones are becoming scarce. They accept ¥10 and ¥100 coins and prepaid cards. Roaming services for mobile phones are available via Docomo, SoftBank and AU. ocated on a quiet street connecting Keyaki-dori and Kego-hondori, Zelliges’ bright yellow building stands out noticably. And it deserves to because this little place is a gem! The owner and chef Mizuta has combined years of experience cooking both French and Vietnamese cuisine with his latest passion, for Moroccan food. Elegant curry dishes are the center pieces of his menu. Deft use of spices results in savory flavors that are smooth on the palate. The Chicken and Vegetable Curry is a tomato-based soup with roasted chicken. Our favorite, however, is the Lamb Spinach Curry. Add a dash of fresh lemon to the thick curry paste served in a sizzling hot iron pot and savor the aroma! Also recommended is the Vietnamese green papaya salad, homemade sausages and Moroccan beer. The restaurant’s blend of chai (middle-eastern royal milk tea) is a delicious way to finish off your meal. Zelliges is perfect as either your daily diner or a special retreat to share with good

Kaisendon Hinode, happily, is just such a restaurant, offering fish dishes sure to please your taste buds and your wallet. The seafood rice bowls start at ¥880 (or ¥700 for the mini size) with around 12 varieties to choose from. The luxurious “sunrise special” rice bowl (¥1,400) contains more than 10 different types of seafood. Add a dash of soy sauce or sesame soy sauce and eat the raw fish and rice together for a delicious mellow flavor. The fish are bought fresh every morning at Nagahama Market. Manager Mr. Araki trained at the popular Japanese restaurant Hakata Tanakada, and is uncompromising about the quality of seafood he allows to be served in his restaurant, sampling each purchase and discarding any that he judges unworthy. He also makes every effort to offer the best possible service to his customers. The rice bowls and set meals

ukuoka is famous for the street stalls, known as yatai, that line its streets at night. In Imaizumi, we spotted a “hotel” for these yatai. The ground floor parking lot of the building behind Dice & Dice is home during the day to seven compactly folded yatai, presumably some of the same ones that are often seen at night around Tenjin or on Watanebe-dori. It’s almost as if they’re resting before their nightly excursions. In Fukuoka, there are workers called hakobi-ya (carriers), whose sole responsibility is to transport yatai. No doubt those seven yatai are also waiting for a hakobi-ya to take them out for a night on the town.
밤의 포장마차는 후쿠오카의 명물. 이마이즈미에서 포장마차 ‘호텔’ 을 발견했다. ‘Dice & Dice’ 뒤편 건물 1층 주차장에는 잘 접힌 7대의 포장마차가 늘어서있다. 덴진과 와타나베 도오리에 나타나는 포장마차의 정체가 바로 이것. 밤이 되기 전 조용히 쉬고 있는 듯하다. 후쿠오카에는 보관장소에서 포장마차를 영업시간 전에 옮겨주는 직업이 있을 정도. 여기에 보관된 포장마차는 그들의 손을 빌려 밤거리로 출근할지도 모른다.

Effie’s first visit to ELLE CAFÉ Viva! 欲ばりライフ！

his month we launch a new series of reports from the world’s first Elle Café located inside Hakata Hankyu. The interior is decorated with chic, contemporary furniture and fittings and there are iPads for customers to use freely. In addition, issues of Elle magazine are available in a staggering 43 different languages. We visited Elle Café with Effie Liang, who recently returned to the city after spending two years studying in Paris. Effie was born and raised in China and choose to attend university here in Fukuoka to broaden her horizons. During her time as a student, she had a part-time job at a radio station and it was through this that she became interested in media. After graduation, she travelled to France to study French at the Sorbonne University in Paris, where she loved the Parisian lifestyle. Now, back in Fukuoka, she works for Love FM and is responsible for a wide range of

博多どんたく港祭り Hakata Dontaku Fukuoka City With more than two million visitors every year, Dontaku is one of Japan's biggest festivals. Originally known as “Matsubayashi”, its roots stretch back to 1179. This year’s festival was originally intended to commemorate the opening of the new Hakata Station building and the new Kyushu Shinkansen, but in light of recent events the theme has been changed to “Don’t give up, Japan”. There is plenty to enjoy, including performances on 32 different stages, sales at local shops, street stalls and more. This retrospective exhibition features some of her early designs, as well as sketches, photographs, dolls and writings. Ballet genius Tetsuya Kumakawa’s dramatic ballet masterpiece is back! Kumakawa plays Romeo opposite Royal Ballet star Roberta Marquez’s Juliet, with support from K-Ballet Company’s other top dancers. Yolanda Sonnabend’s set design is also a highlight.
Held on the 4th Saturday of every month, this event gives exchange students a chance to learn about Japanese culture. A lecture from a local businessman, politician or academic is followed by a talk on their experiences in Japan from exchange students. The intercultural mixer afterwards is a great chance to meet people.

현대 발레계의 귀재 구마카와 테쓰야의 드라마틱 발레 걸작이 돌아왔다! 로미오 역의 구마카와 테쓰야, 줄리엣 역을 맡은 영국 로얄 발레단의 프리마돈나 로베르타 마르케즈 외에도 K 발레 컴퍼니가 자랑하 는 스타 발레리노 소 자와 유스 케, 하시모 토 나오키, 미야오 슌타로가 출연할 예정이다. 영국 미술계를 대표하는 욜란다 소나벤드가 담당한 무대미술 또한 압권이다.
후 쿠오카의 유학생이 일본 문화를 배우며 일본인과 만나는 교류의 장으로 매월 넷째 주 토 요일에 개최되 는 이벤트. 1부에서는 비즈니스, 학문, 정치 등 다양한 분야에서 활약 중인 후 쿠오 카 인이 독자 적인 시점에 서 후쿠오카와 일본에 대한 이야기를, 2부 에서는 유학생 출 신자가 일본 체험담을 들려준다. 강연 후의 이문화 교류회에는 다양한 국적의 남녀노소가 참가한다.

11 of the legendary Stradivarius instruments are being brought together for this concert. The 7 violins, 2 cellos, and 2 violas are said to be worth a combined total of 9 billion yen. Playing them will be an assortment of pre-eminent German performers, including leading members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
The only classic car event in Japan to focus on cars from the years 1976-1989 returns to the suitably retro surroundings of Mojiko. Skylines, Leopards and other wellregarded Japanese and imported cars will be on display. Other events include a swap meet for car-related goods and original Tshirt sales.
