Kit t y-corner from Hotel Okura sits Meijiya, a yakiniku restaurant specializing in Kyushu-raised Kuroge Wagyu beef run by a butcher in business for 50-plus years. Here you can try Hakata Wagyu, a tender, slightly sweet red meat that was dubbed Japan’s number one beef at an annual competition last fall. You can order cuts a la carte, but we recommend trying one of the platters with cuts carefully selected by head chef Ryuji Fukunaga. The charcoal brazier will quickly and uniformly cook the surface of the meat while locking in the flavor. Try pairing with a dry sake.

GOENYA TENJIN

Although Fukuoka is better known for ramen, one must not overlook its cousin tsukemen, which is enjoyed by dipping cold noodles in a separate bowl of hot broth. Located a stone’s throw from the south ticket gate of the Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station, Goenya adds a local twist to this increasingly popular dish. The key is the soup, a rich concoction made daily from soba broth (Goenya’s sister shop is the soba shop Hanagen) and a combination of dried bonito, red-eye herring, and mackerel. This aromatic fish-based broth combines with homemade chili oil, chili peppers and sesame paste to pack an extra punch—it’s truly a sensorial delight! To top it off, the thick bouncy noodles add a wheaty aroma to the mix. Be sure to get a good helping of the soup on the noodles when you dip them. At night, you can enjoy motsunabe and mizutaki hot pots as well as other dishes. Goenya also offers more than 200 kinds of shochu from around Kyushu.

博多沾麺御圓屋天神

“하카타 츠케멘”이라는 이름에서 알 수 있듯이 간판 메뉴는 츠케멘. 차가운 면을 한입 분량만큼 집어 따뜻한 국물에 적셔 먹는 요리다. 고엔야는 후쿠오카 시내를 중심으로 영업 중인 메밀국수 전문점 ‘소바차야 하나겐’의 자매점으로 매일 아침 카고시마현 마쿠라자키산 카츠오부시 등을 끓여내 만드는 진한 메밀국수 장국풍의 국물이 특징이다. 감칠맛과 풍미를 자랑하는 해산물 육수에 직접 만든 라유와 고추의 매운맛, 참깨 페이스 트 의 고 소함 이 더해진 국 물 에 부드러우며 탱탱 쫄깃한 식감을 자랑하는 특별 주문한 면을 적셔 맛보도록 하자. 큐슈 명물인 소주도 200종류 이상 준비되어 있으며 밤에는 모 츠나베, 미즈타 키 등의 술안주가 될만한 메뉴도 다양하게 제공한다.

Thirty thousand (55 species) purple and white Japanese irises bloom in the Shobuike Pond during the first two weeks of June, signaling the onset of summer. This 420-year-old event is a tug of war between teams of Yobuko citizens using a 200 m long rope. A land team win means a good harvest, while a beach team win means a good catch. 요부코 줄다리기

420여 년의 역사를 자랑하는 줄다리기 행사. 매년 6월 첫째 토·일요일에 개최되며 직경 15cm, 길이 200m나 되는 밧줄을 사용한다. 3번의 승부 끝에 하마구미(浜組)가 이기면 풍어(豐漁), 오카구미(岡組)가 이기면 풍작이라고. 당일 참가도 가능하다.

說到「夏天避暑、秋天追楓」的話就是觀光名勝「白絲瀑布」囉！每年 6 月為了祈求夏季的平安，由神官進行平安祈禱後，進行如舞台活動、流水細麵等一連串精彩活動。6 月下旬到 7 月上旬之間，約有 5 千株共 10 萬朵的繡球花盛開，為遊客帶來耳目一新的景觀。

Fukuoka City ranks first amongst 21 major cities in Japan for the number of beaches (11 within 30 km of City Hall) with good water quality. But that’s just a statistic. Wait till you see all the long stretches of sandy beaches! Some are inside the city and easily accessible, but some require a bit of effort. From JR Chikuzen-Maebaru Sta. (40 min. from Tenjin), it’s just a 25-minute bus ride to one of Itoshima’s best beaches. The calm bay has lots of facilities including beach huts with food and drink, and showers. Keya / 芥屋, Shima-keya, Itoshima.

Located on the chic and shady Keyakidori avenue, & Locals brings the cuisine and culture of Japan’s rural areas to the city with foods sourced directly from the producers. The main draw is the inari sushi rice stuffed in fried tofu. The shop makes four kinds, but the most popular jitensha inari uses seasoned vinegared rice with dried baby sardines, a specialty of Unzen in Nagasaki. The inari are made by hand every morning, but some days they sell out as early as 3 p.m. If you choose to eat in, you can also order a set with either green tea or miso soup.

The performance also features chu-nori, which sees an actor suspended mid-air above the stage creating a sense of magic and supernatural power.
