New York City Overview

Ed Ford was born July 28, 1947, in Pennsylvania and graduated West Scranton High School in 1965. Following his service in the Army, he moved to Hollywood to fulfill his modeling and acting aspirations. He returned East and settled in New York City, where he owned/operated Ty's Bar on Christopher St. in Greenwich Village for 40 years. Eddie, as he was known by family and friends, was an avid fan of the arts, including music, theater, dance and film. He loved entertaining and to say he was an amazing cook would be an understatement. He enjoyed history and traveling the world. He was dedicated to charity work, supporting organizations such as the Humane Society, Family to Family, Friends of the Poor, Covenant House, Fireflag/EMS, God's Love We Deliver, New York Foundling Hospital, Callen-Lourde Health Center, Gay Men's Choir, Broadway Cares, Leek and Watts Orphanage, Big Apple Softball League, GMHC and Feed the Children. A loyal son, brother, uncle and friend, Eddie was a great listener and would help anyone in need. To him, his staff, family and friends, I dedicate this edition of the New York City FunMap. He has inspired me to understand the word "dedication". May his memory serve to inspire others to live, enjoy life and be there for others.

Constructed from 18031812, it had undergone many renovations during its long existence. Just south of the fountain, a medallion within the ground & consisting of nine granite panels, traces the history of City Hall Park from its 17th century Dutch origins through the recent reconstruction.

Until 1954 it was the highest structure in the world. It took less than two years to build, which was unheard of at that time. Charles Chatter Platter Broadway Wrap by Charles Wegmann Summer 2011 has brought with it an unusually wide variety of talent and titles set to dazzle theatre lovers headed to NYC. Allow me to sift through the trash and reveal the polished jewels you simply cannot afford to miss. This column would be remiss not to begin with Book of Mormon; the most brilliant, drop-dead, laugh-out-loud, politically incorrect and universally offensive show in this or any other town. You'll be Christmas shopping by the time you get over what this script by writers Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park) is able to get away with. Another winner is Anything Goes. Sutton Foster has turned Cole Porter's fabulous musical into pure gold with the help of Kathleen Marshall's truly thrilling choreography and a score that just does not quit. Sure to delight the ‘down under’ of anyone reading this map, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a jukebox musical that embraces every gay anthem ever pumped at a pride parade. The cast knocks the gay ball out of the park flawlessly relating that feel-good, crowd-pleasing story that made the movie the stuff of legend. Catch Me if You Can is a fun romp that allows the seemingly endless talent of Norbert Leo Butz to shine so brightly that I badly needed my shades. Making his Broadway musical debut is Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Both of these productions offer an enjoyable evening out and a refreshing blast of 60's kitsch. Robin Williams shines, but is not the only reason to try and catch the Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Rave reviews pouring in from all directions have made this the exciting new American play of the season. It's slightly weird, but in a very good way. Sister Act the Musical benefits from Whoopi Goldberg's nurturing as a producer to the role that was memorably hers in the film. Alan Menken’s score here is stirring and effective, running from scandalous to inspirational. If you're interested in discovering tomorrow's star tonight, check out Nina Arianda's performance alongside Jim Belushi and Robert Sean Leonard in the magnificent Born Yesterday. Nina channels a spoken-word Cyndi Lauper in her portrayal of a floozie turned scholar that defines her coming of age as an actress. The set design along with Doug Hughes' spot-on direction garners very high marks for this production.
