Getting Here By Air: Miami is served by two airports, Miami International (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International (FLL). Miami International is one of the largest airports in the world and an important hub for traffic between North America and Latin America. American Airlines is MIA’s major carrier. Fort Lauderdale International is further from Miami and is a much smaller and less trafficked airport. FLL is host to Southwest Airlines, Jet Blue and other low-cost carriers that often offer better domestic fares than MIA. Check flights to both airports before booking your flight while also considering ground transportation. Fort Lauderdale is 25-40 minutes north of Miami by car and a taxi can run you up to $65.
By Rail: Amtrak serves Miami frequently from Central Florida and Northeastern US with several daily trains. Check Amtrak.com or 800-USA-RAIL for schedule and fares.
By Car: Three main highways lead to Miami. I-95 extends south along the Atlantic coast of Florida and terminates in Miami. U.S. Highway 1 provides access from the Florida Keys to the south of Miami and I-75 cuts in from the west and Florida’s Gulf coast. 6

Miami Design Preservation League 1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 305-672-2014 www.mdpl.org Miami Beach’s building boom came during the second phase of Art Deco known as Streamline Moderne, which began with the stock market crash and ended in most cases with the outbreak of World War II. It was less decorative—a more sober reflection of the Great Depression. It relied more on machineinspired forms, and American ideas in industrial design. It was buttressed by the belief that times would get better and was infused with the optimistic futurism extolled at America’s Worlds Fairs of the 1930s. Stripped Classic or Depression Moderne was a sub-style often used for governmental buildings, the U.S. Post Office being the best example in Miami Beach. Miami Beach architects used local imagery to create what we now call Tropical Deco. These buildings feature relief ornamentation featuring whimsical flora, fauna and ocean-liner motifs to reinforce the image of Miami Beach as a seaside resort.

Welcome to Key West ey West is one of America's true architectural and botanical treasures. The locals have faithfully restored old wooden homes and landscaped with lush tropical trees and flowers. You will find new restaurants and stores in the historic Bahama Village neighborhood. Tennessee Williams lived in Key West for 30 years. This year, in March, a new exhibit, honoring Williams' literary prowess and long time residency in Key West, will open behind the Key West Business Guild Visitor Center. The island’s seafaring tradition lives on at the renovated Historic Seaport district, known as the “Key West Bight”. “The Bight” is a popular place to arrange a day on the water, whether you are a diver, snorkeler, sailor, fisherman or eco-tourist. Take a sunset cruise, it’s "amazing" or come and stroll along the harbor walk after dining out at one of the many restaurants. A walk down Duval Street will open your eyes wider with every step. It’s filled with magnificent treasures of gift shops, restaurants, bars, hotels and attractions. Open your eyes and your pockets; the things that you’ll see and buy will beckon you back time and time again.
