s an International center of business, finance and arts, Canada's largest city, Toronto, is an urban cultural mosaic and one of the world’s cleanest, safest and most diverse cities. Friendly faces, welcoming establishments, and a LGBT community of almost 350,000 creates an environment other big cities strive to achieve. Toronto is a great place to be gay, lesbian and trans. The Province of Ontario recently passed “Toby’s Bill”, including gender identity and gender expression into the Human Rights Code. Toronto recognizes same-sex marriage, inviting couples from around the world flock to Toronto to get married. Rather hook-up than get hitched? There are many choices for gay, lesbian and mixed nightclubs, queer theatre, fetish and circuit parties, festivals, popular patios, coffee shops, drag havens, leather bars, lodgings and saunas. These essentials are concentrated near the famed Church Street Village or in Queen Street West, featuring many LGBT-specific establishments: Its like an outdoor gay mall. The “Village” beat easily mixes with a straight vibe over to Yonge Street or down to the 'College West' & historic 'Cabbage Town' neighborhoods. You'll find various interpretations of urban cool. Toronto's Entertainment District offers endless activities including the Skyline-famous CN tower, St. Lawrence & Kensington Markets, or a ferry-ride to Toronto Islands for cycling and sun worshipping on numerous beaches. If you're not shy, hike to the far end of Hanlan's Point – for clothing optional tanning. Special events are celebrated year round. Toronto's worldrenowned Pride Week Weekend attracts an estimated one million attendees. Your choices of museums, attractions, shops, bars, restaurants and lodging in this authentic melting pot are neverending. If you’re the type who appreciates beauty, culture and diversity, you’ll be sure to fall in love with Toronto. 5

A Letter... Welcome to Toronto, situated on the shores of Lake Ontario. It’s a City filled with jewels around every corner and a vibe that rivals the major cosmopolitan centers of North America. From Music and Art to leading Universities, Accommodations, Attractions, Shopping, Dining and Entertainment. Toronto has it all, a “must see” destination! This summer, a colossal event, World Pride, is taking place in Toronto. Starting June 20th, with opening ceremonies in Nathan Phillips Square, featuring top stars like Melissa Etheridge and Deborah Cox, it promises to be a blockbuster event. Fun-filled days and nights await those who will be there from all over the world. Toronto is a city of neighborhoods, each which can be explored and will reveal their treasures. Streetcars give easy access to entire city. Make sure to include the Church Wellesley Gay Village, Cabbagetown the Danforth, the Entertainment District, Queen West and the Eastern Beaches, where you can frolic in Lake Ontario. Your Toronto FunMap® will get you to all of these areas and you will have an exciting time. Let me welcome you to Toronto. Enjoy yourself, immerse yourself and you will be back again.
On behalf of the City of St. Catharines and Council, it is a pleasure for me to welcome all those who have travelled to Toronto to celebrate WorldPride 2014. The City of St. Catharines, which has a population of approximately 132,000 residents, is located in the heart of the Niagara region with a total population of 430,000. We boast a culture that promotes artistic, recreational and intellectual pursuits. Like our country – the City of St. Catharines is a community full of diversity and the uniqueness of our people is what makes this community so great. In our city, we pride ourselves on our ability to embrace inclusivity, celebrate our differences, and learn more about each other. Annual Pride events are an important time for our community to demonstrate acceptance and celebrate all that the Rainbow Flag represents. We invite you to explore and indulge in all that our city has to offer from our award winning wineries and culinary delights to our natural heritage and historical sites. From our parks and network of trails you’ll appreciate all the beauty of our fair city. Take time to visit our downtown where we are on the cusp of a cultural revitalization where the City and Brock University have partnered to build a Fine and Performing Arts complex and the Meridian Centre, a new spectator facility, is scheduled to open this fall. It is our hope that you enjoy our community along with the hospitality and the events scheduled for WorldPride 2014. Best regards,
Alan H. Beck

Getting Here

s one of North America’s biggest cities, Toronto is easily accessible by air, rail and automobile. About five million Canadian residents live within an hours drive and 60 percent of the U.S. population is within a 90-minute flight. By Air: Located just west of the city, Pearson International Airport is one of the world’s busiest in terms of passenger traffic with over 65 different airlines serving it. Regional flights are also available from Toronto City Centre Airport which is located on an island in Toronto Harbour. Toronto is a hub for Air Canada with a wide variety of domestic, US and International connections. Porter Airlines is great for Regional Flights; WestJest and AirCanada are also great Canadian carriers. A flight from New York or Chicago is only about 1 hr, 30 min. By Rail: Toronto is served by the VIA Rail System with access to all rail service throughout Canada and connection to Amtrak in the United States through Niagara Falls, New York. GO Train is also a great alternative to get around some parts of Ontario. After arriving at Union Station in the heart of downtown Toronto visitors can connect to the subway (called TTC) by underground tunnel. By Road: Several highways, including Highways 2, 401, 407 and the Queen Elizabeth Way, link surrounding cities to Toronto. The nearest Canada-U.S. border crossings are at Niagara Falls, Fort Erie and Windsor.
