Getting Here

s an International center of business, finance and arts, Canada's largest city, Toronto, is an urban cultural mosaic and one of the world’s cleanest, safest and most diverse cities. Friendly faces, welcoming establishments, and a GLBT community of almost 350,000 creates an environment other big cities strive to achieve. Toronto is a great place to be gay, lesbian and trans. The Province of Ontario recently passed “Toby’s Bill”, including gender identity and gender expression into the Human Rights Code. Toronto recognizes same-sex marriage, inviting couples from around the world flock to Toronto to get married. Rather hook-up than get hitched? There are many choices for gay, lesbian and mixed nightclubs, queer theatre, fetish and circuit parties, festivals, popular patios, coffee shops, drag havens, leather bars, lodgings and saunas. These essentials are concentrated near the famed Church Street Village or in West Queen West, featuring many GLBT-specific establishments: Its like an outdoor gay mall. The “Village” beat easily mixes with a straight vibe over to Yonge Street or down to the 'College West' & historic 'Cabbage Town' neighborhoods. You'll find various interpretations of urban cool. Toronto's Entertainment District offers endless activities including the Skyline-famous CN tower, St. Lawrence & Kensington Markets, or a ferry-ride to Toronto Islands for cycling and sun worshipping on numerous beaches. If you're not shy, hike to the far end of Hanlan's Point – for clothing optional tanning. Special events are celebrated year round. Toronto's worldrenowned Pride Week Weekend attracts an estimated one million attendees. Your choices of museums, attractions, shops, bars, restaurants and lodging in this authentic melting pot are neverending. If you’re the type who appreciates beauty, culture and diversity, you’ll be sure to fall in love with Toronto. 5

Getting Here s one of North America’s biggest cities, Toronto is easily accessible by air and automobile. About five million Canadian residents live within an hours drive and 60 percent of the U.S. population is within a 90-minute flight. By Air: Located just west of the city, Pearson International Airport is one of the world’s busiest in terms of passenger traffic with over 65 different airlines serving it. Regional flights are also available from Toronto City Centre Airport which is located on an island in Toronto Harbour. Toronto is a hub for Air Canada with a wide variety of domestic, US and International connections. Porter Airlines is great for Regional Flights; and WestJest is also a great Canadian carrier. A flight from New York or Chicago is only about 1 hr, 30 min. By Rail: Toronto is served by the VIA Rail System with access to all rail service throughout Canada and connection to Amtrak in the United States through Niagara Falls, New York. GO Train is also a great alternative to get around some parts of Ontario. After arriving at Union Station in the heart of downtown Toronto visitors can connect to the subway (called TTC) by underground tunnel. By Road: Several highways, including Highways 2, 401, 407 and the Queen Elizabeth Way, link surrounding cities to Toronto. The nearest Canada-U.S. border crossings are at Niagara Falls, Fort Erie and Windsor.
