A Letter... from the NGLCC Dear Friend: Greetings from the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce® (NGLCC)! Let us be among the first to welcome you to the Washington DC, Baltimore and Rehoboth Beach area. As the national business voice of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, we are excited to have you visiting an area which is home to one of our local affiliate chambers – the Capital Area Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CAGLCC) as well as home to our main headquarters. We encourage you to patronize those LGBT and friendly establishments that are members of our local chamber affiliate. The DC/Baltimore/Rehoboth area is rich with opportunity for LGBT business and recreation. We hope that you enjoy your stay and understand why we take such pride in our member businesses and local chamber affiliates. At the NGLCC we believe that a strong economic infrastructure will speak volumes in our quest for equality; by frequenting LGBT-owned establishments you are building stronger businesses and helping us make our case from Washington, DC to Wall Street and down Main Street, USA. For more information about the NGLCC and the work we are doing on behalf of the national LGBT business community, please visit us at www.nglcc.org. Sincerely,

Justin Nelson

ashington, D.C., situated along the banks of the Potomac River between Virginia and Maryland, is a showcase of national treasures. The City’s streets are a patchwork of museums, historical landmarks, art galleries, monuments, government buildings, restaurants, shops and cafes. Easy to get to and full of sights and attractions, the City is naturally a popular destination for tourists and, of course, one of the gayest places in the country! The Dupont Circle neighborhood is most closely tied to the City’s GLBT population. With a rich history, the once downtrodden area acquired a strong bohemian and alternative feel with an influx of urban pioneers in the 1970s. Shortly afterward it became known as a center of gay culture, just like Greenwich Village in New York and the Castro in San Francisco. Today, although it has become increasingly mainstream, Dupont Circle is still recognized as a historic locale in the development of American gay identity and home to the majority of the City’s GLBT and GLBT-friendly businesses. Not surprisingly, the politically charged environment lends the City an air of distinction and a penchant for activism. Washington’s gay think-tank is one of the most committed and savvy GLBT communities and is home to some of the most powerful and visible gay men and lesbians in the country. If you find you’ve had your fill of history and culture and choose to sample a different type of excitement you’ll find some big name attractions just outside the City. Busch Gardens, National Harbor (MD), Water Country USA and Six Flags America (to name a few) are only a short ride away. The chances are slim that a trip to Washington D.C. will let you down.

ashington, DC is filled with restaurants that will satisfy any taste. Whether you like Thai, German, French, Italian, Greek Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, or any other ethnic or culinary choice, you can find it all in the Greater Washington, DC area. Of special interest are the restaurants on 17th Street, between P and S Streets, P Street in the Dupont Circle Area, U Street Corridor and vicinity, Georgetown and, of course, along Connecticut Avenue. Just north of Dupont Circle. As neighborhoods are being improved, new restaurants are opening monthly. So , if you haven’t been to Washington recently, you will be amazed at the burgeoning scene. This is especially true in the NW and SE sections where gay neighborhoods exist. Check out the new and continue to enjoy the well - established eateries. Coffee shops and dessert places are easily found to round out a meal or get a quick pick up to continue your tour of this great city on the Potomac. Greetings... from the Executive Director

Rehoboth Beach at Delaware Avenue, courtesy of WikiCommons user Dough4872

Rehoboth Beach ehoboth Beach was founded in the 1870’s as the site of a religious camp. Following the development of a railroad and boardwalk in the 1900’s, Rehoboth Beach evolved into an active resort town. Today, it stands as a year-round gay resort, with more than 200 gay-owned restaurants, shops, lodgings and night spots. Embracing the northernmost part of the Delaware shore, Rehoboth Beach is only a short two-and-a-half hour drive from Washington D.C. and Baltimore, three hours from Philadelphia, and four from New York City. Thought of as the Mid-Atlantic region’s answer to Key West or Provincetown, Rehoboth boasts two gay beaches with plenty of people watching and a lively boardwalk full of arcades, eateries and bars. Many of the restaurants and attractions are surprisingly affordable, and there’s a great mix of cheap, elegant and trendy. This means you can grab a hot dog, stop at a crab shack, ride the bumper cars or spend the day at a spa and sit down for a lavish dinner. If you’re looking for a more active outing, you can head to one of the nearby parks for hiking trails, fishing, camping and kayaking. On nearby Route 1, you’ll find a haven for outlet shopping (FYI, there’s no sales tax in Delaware!).

Baltimore estaurants, shops and fun abound in Maryland’s largest city. The tall downtown buildings form an impressive skyline over a newly restored and dynamic waterfront. The Inner Harbor is quickly becoming one of America’s hottest travel destinations, boasting major attractions such as the National Aquarium, the Maryland Science Center, Camden Yards Stadium Complex, and the Baltimore Maritime Museum. On top of all these exciting things to do and see, Harborplace and the Gallery at Harborplace feature over 100 unique shops and more than 50 eateries and restaurants. There is also live entertainment offered on the waterfront. Baltimore has a rich historic past with many picturesque areas which have changed little since the 19th century. The first settlers arrived in 1661, and it was later the home of Fort McHenry. While under the siege of the British during the War of 1812, the fort served as the inspiration for our national anthem by Francis Scott Key. Baltimore also retains the honor of completing the first major monument in memory of George Washington. Enhancing Baltimore’s historic charm are many recreational areas such as Druid Hill Park with its 574 acres and the Baltimore Zoo. To the east of the city, ethnically diverse Fells Point and newly redeveloped Canton are must see areas with cultural activities, and a growing gay and lesbian community serviced by many exciting restaurants, bars, nightclubs, inns and shops.

Welcome... from the Hampden Merchants Association Welcome to Baltimore's Hampden! We are one of the most colorful neighborhoods in a city known for its colorful neighborhoods. Whether this is your first time here or a return jaunt, we're thrilled you've decided to visit us. We are, so we’ve been told by visitors, an anomaly in many cities today. We are mostly a neighborhood of locally owned, independent businesses. You won’t find a Starbucks or an Urban Outfitters on our Avenue, and we’re proud of that. In their place you’ll discover a diversity of businesses owned and operated by a cross-section of Baltimore city residents. Our award-winning eateries and boutiques showcase the best of Baltimore. What’s more, the folks waiting on you live here. And the chances are very good they are a nationally recognized artist or musician. We couldn’t be more excited that you’ve decided to visit us, and we hope you come back soon. John Waters has said, “"I've always been inspired by Hampden.” We hope you will be too. For more information about Hampden, please visit hampdenmerchants.com. Sincerely,

Benn Ray President, Hampden Village Merchants Association

ampden has been exploding with activity this year. Building on our reputation for "unique," "eclectic," and "quirky," several new and already widely acclaimed restaurants have opened as well as more stores than ever; existing stores are expanding and all continue to win awards. Hampden has the most per capita "Best in Baltimore" sites around! "Live, Eat, Shop Hampden" remains our motto. The Jones Falls on our western edge provided water energy for the cotton duck mills whose sails powered the Baltimore Clipper tall ships bringing international trade to the City. Today the mills are being converted into residences and multi-use facilities as people rediscover the convenience of City living–with country amenities from our abundant parks teeming with wildlife. All this within walking distance of The Avenue, the heart of Hampden’s shopping district. Located near several major universities (Johns Hopkins, Loyala, Notre Dame, University of Baltimore, and the Maryland Institute of Fine Art are all just minutes away), The Baltimore Zoo and Baltimore Museum of Art, a five-minute cab ride from Penn Station and ten minutes from downtown, Hampden retains its small town charm with its host of individual stores offering an amazing variety of shopping and local taverns and restaurants providing fabulous food and entertainment. Come celebrate First Fridays, Hampdenfest and HONfest, The Mayor’s Christmas Parade, and The Miracle on 34th Street. In Hampden, EVERY day is a holiday!
