he second installment of Wtzupkochi City Awards 2016 presented by Tata Tiago and styled by Indigo Nation, took place at Hotel Crowne Plaza with a star studded guest list coming together to celebrate Kochi and its many facets. The voting process of Wtzupkochi City Awards 2016 was open to all, and over 4 Lakh Kochiites voted to choose their favorites. The event was graced by Mollywood’s favorite actors Vinay Forrt, Aparna Balamurali, Muthumani, Sruthi Ramachandran, Anson Paul, John Kaippallil , Director Ganesh Raj and the Aanandam cast – Arun Kurian, Anarkali Marikkar and Vishak Nair. The event also witnessed the cover launch of FWD Life magazine featuring model and actress Mannara Chopra, who unveiled the exclusive cover at the evening to remember.

The online poll received tremendous response with over 4 lakh Kochiites voting and it was made even more exciting with live status on the page. The contest was the talk of the town and social media. Kochi’s favorite Band From being Kochi’s favorite to being one of India’s favorite, Thaikkudam Bridge has come a long way in a year. It is not a surprise that they became Kochi’s Favorite Band for the second time as well. Gayathri, wife of Vipin Lal and Rashmi, wife of Anish Krishnan received the award from actress Aparna Balamurali and Datta Naikanavare, Chief Brand Manger of Indigo Nation. The band is currrently touring the country.

He recieved the award from actors Vinay Forrt and Aparna Balamurali and Datta Naikanavare, Brand Head of Indigo Nation. He thanked everyone who voted and supported him.

Kochi’s Favorite Actor Kochi’s Favorite Actress Kochi’s Favorite Hangout Dulquer Salman won the award for Favorite Actor second time in a row. He was really excited that his favourite city has chosen him as their favorite actor yet again. When he received the award for the first time at the first installment of Wtzupkochi City Awards last year, he said “ It is a special feeling to be voted as the favorite through an online poll. Kochi is my home. I was born here. Especially in this moment when I am doing Kochi based films and characters, this award is really special.

Parvathy was chosen as Kochi’s Favorite Actress yet again, after a tough online battle with other actresses of the likes of Mamta Mohandas, Anusree and more. During her acceptance speech from last year, she mentioned that it was an honour and a humbling experience to be chosen as a person who is making Kochi better and that it is an encouragement for her to do better. The award winning actress has done many memorable roles that have resonated with the audience.

ave you wondered how crazy it would be if an always lively city like Kochi, where everybody is running on a tight schedule suddenly froze in action? Well, we at WtzupCity had this thought and also had the nerve to try it out amidst the bustling crowds of Kochi.

This is Kochi, the convivial land at the southern coast of India where people never miss out to take up on current trends and that is exactly why the campaigns with the currently trending Mannequin Challenge that were conducted as a part of City Awards piqued the public’s interest. WtzupKochi in association with Tiago from TATA Motors and Red FM Cochin organized fun promotions at

Public campaigns for City Awards started off at the Corporate valley at Kakkanad and went on for a nine day period. Software engineers streaming out from offices after their evening shift were looking on with surprise at the bunch of kids who got out of the brand new Tiago and froze in the middle of nowhere.

Youngsters who came to Tonico for a cup of coffee also went around the mannequins with amusement. The second day of promotions took place at Panampilly Nagar where the folks at Alibaba & 41 dishes were more than happy to join in the fun activity. The evening crowd at Kochi’s favorite momo place, Shifu Momo’s as

well as the pedestrians walking by looked on to the mannequins with curiosity. The group of friends at the Panampilly Nagar Park became mannequins themselves after seeing the fun in front of Shifu Momo’s.

Promotions got a lot more exciting at Kaloor International Stadium on the day of the match between Kerala Blasters and North East United, when the supporters of Kerala Blasters joined in with the mannequins. The next day was a challenging attempt at Bharata Mata College with a group of students freezing while heated discussions were going on and answers were being cross checked after exams.

From Thrikkakara, the team moved to Jaison’s Fitness First where they had a healthy pause with a game of snooker at Kalories Cafe.

One of the busiest places of Kochi, M.G. Road was the next location on the list.

Kochiites who came to enjoy the sunset at Marine Drive’s Rainbow Bridge found it funny when a bunch of kids who were taking the stairs froze on their way up. The jovial spirit of Kochi was reflected once again when shops like MILAN joined in with WtzupCity for the Mannequin Challenge. The couples who walked into Zaatar Arabic Restaurant at Panampilly Nagar were curious to know why everyone at the restaurant from the manager to the waiters and the one making tea were all frozen on a nice Tuesday evening. It was a fun party scene at Cafe17 with the cool props and the guests who took on the impulse and joined in with our team making the activity more fun and exciting. The heated game of laser tag paused at ChaiCofi in honor of the mannequin challenge as if it were a shoot out scene of a heated action movie.

On day eight, the crazy crew of WtzupCity had the entire kitchen of Brindhavan Restaurant freeze while getting ready to serve lunch. Later that day Mannequin Challenge with the very enthusiastic ladies of St.Teresa’s posing showing off their fields of excellence like dance and kabbadi with pride, was when team work really paid off.

There is no better place than Fort Kochi for a fun activity like this. On the last day of campaign, WtzupCity team headed to Kashi Art Cafe where the tourists were bursting into fits of laughter when the kid who went upto their table explaining about City Awards for Kochi suddenly froze. What a challenge!

ochi is home to the birth of legendary music acts who are ruling the national music scene such as MotherJane and Thaikkudam Bridge. The last few years have seen a number of independent music bands who have come together in this city. So, a celebration of Kochi and its many facets, such as Wtzupkochi City awards 2016 could not have been complete without the performance of a home grown band.

'The Free Fall Duo.' The band incorporates instruments such as ukulele, mouth organ and acoustic guitars to impart a soulful appeal to their music.

The Band's Journey The band’s music is influenced by the likes of Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Chef Atkins, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and AR Rahman. They can be defined as an

hail from other cities, but met while in Kochi and found the band together. Their music has a multilingual appeal with songs ranging from English, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil to Assamese, which is befitting for a band born in a multicultural city like Kochi. The Free Fall is a true representation of modern Kochiites who has made the city their home and is unafraid to pursue their passion with all their might.

The Free Fall opened the event with a cover version of the song ‘New York Nagaram’ and they kept the audience entertained with their repertoire of soulful music during the event.

Some of the band’s most popular songs were performed at the event including Monalisa, Paniye Vizhum Paniye, True Kadhal and more.

“The band’s official members are Vaisakh Somanath on vocals, Abhilash Choudhury on lead guitar and vocals , Aisten Correya on rhythm guitar, Nandakumar on bass, Nithin Mathew on drums/percussion. But the leads also perform independantly under the name

acoustic rock band who in their own words “tries to blend blues, rock and funk music with Indian classical and folk music.”The band made its presence known through their performance on Kappa TV’s Music Mojo season 4. They later performed at numerous events and at Kochi’s popular music venue - Muse Room, Panampilly Nagar. Vaishak Somnath, one of the leads also composed the music for the Kochi Muziris Biennale 2016 promotional videos.
