It’s Bang On Taste, flavor, and crunch: it’s all bang on at Bangs.

Maria John

W

e love food. Moreover, we love fried chicken at its crispiest crunchiest best. So what makes Bangs Chicken different? Flavored with the choicest of Indian spices and catering to the regional palette, Bangs claims to be not just any other fast food but the fast food for us. The brainchild of IT graduate and entrepreneur, Asvin Simon, Bangs has been creating quite the ‘bang’ in the state. The franchise was born out of Asvin’s love for...quite obviously, food! The chain kick started from a small outlet at Manickam Road and has grown to even include an outlet in Qatar and Dubai. Talk about this Chicken Little making it big. The story behind its success is no complicated theorem – just fresh, simple, affordable and local. Bangs at OMR follows the brand motto of keeping it simple. The outlets are modeled on the same. The brand colors of blue and yellow add some pep to the neutral wood paneled interiors. The full front glass facade gives

you a view into and from the street. Bangs is a place for a quick meal with friends, family or colleagues. Avail not just the fried chicken but also burgers, wraps, sandwiches, and more. The Big Bad Boy burger comes recommended from the man himself. Add on from their list of salads to balance your meal. Wind it up on a sweet note with cool blends and selected desserts. Their combo and BOGO (buy one get one) free offers are tailored to give you more for less. Bangs has been featured in the top 100 brands in India by Franchise India Corp. An ever growing chain, they have a presence in over ten states. Fast food might have taken root in America, but it has definitely found a home in our country. As the first organized India based international brand, Asvin is optimistic about Bangs future. Here is another reason to save them on speed dial, as your IPL season 8 is about to get tastier. As the players line up on April 8th to kickstart India’s most watched sports series, avail great offers from Bangs.

A Double Dose of DD Does DD drink coffee? Popular video jockey Dhivyadharshini, on the other side of the couch. Sarah George Shakthy Dasan

T

he extremely bubbly and vivacious DD is familiar to everyone with a TV and cable connection. Her infectious smile immediately sets you at ease, as she has proven with her stellar guest list on the popular show, Koffee with DD. The format that Karan Johar made so famous in Bollywood, is being done superlatively here by Dhivyadharshini Neelakandan. So does DD really like to drink coffee? We

10

got to ask the questions this time and she had no trouble keeping us on the edge of our seats. DD’s face was a play of expressions and her hands never kept still. We had lots of fun interacting with this diva for the launch issue of Wtzup Chennai. Anybody who has a cable connection in Tamil Nadu, knows DD. How do you manage that? If I say that I have worked, it is not right. It is a bunch of really nice people who have brought me to the front. I have been blessed with good people,

good work, good timing, good grace, and luck. It is the people I work with like Nila, Peter etc who have given me this opportunity. What is the biggest compliment you have received? When parents approach me and tell me that this is what they want for their daughters, I feel really blessed. Another big compliment is when stars ask for you to interview them. What sets you apart as a talk show host? I am very particular about how the guest feels. I have been always sensitive to others’ needs. I always try to find out how they feel and how to bring the best out from them. I have really enjoyed hosting Koffee with DD. My other favorite jobs are Home Sweet Home and Namma Veettil Kalyanam. I have been with Vijay TV for around 16 years and I have been really pampered in a protected environment. Are you being extra pampered since the wedding? To be honest, nothing much has changed other than I shifted houses. I always have been pampered and continue to be. Maybe not so much by my husband (she laughs) but my in-laws have been the greatest blessing.

wtzup.in/COVER You have one of the highest TRP ratings in Tamil Nadu. Not many women would opt for marriage especially when they are at the peak of their careers citing various reasons. A lot of people thought that there would be a slump after my wedding but the opposite happened. I am not a calculative person and tend to go with the flow. It is all given from above. I believe that change is inevitable and that one has to grow with it. It is all about how you handle it. My marriage was planned in a month. I was busy with the Vijay TV awards show during that time. I went with the flow and it all just fell into place. It was on the way to the reception that i picked up my footwear and earrings. That is how busy i was. Is it difficult being a woman in the industry? I actually think that women anchors are very popular. That being said, I believe that women empowerment is a strong word. I don’t want to emphasize it. Women should carve a dignified niche for themselves. We need to know how to give, take and earn respect regardless of gender. Who did you enjoy interviewing on Koffee with DD? Dhanush has been one of my favorites and I am a huge fan. Arya and Vishal have been such gentlemen. Of the younger lot , I had a good time with Dulquer Salman, Shiva Karthikeyan and Anirudh. I really admire Trisha, Nayantara and Anushka. If you were not a television anchor, what would you be?

Definitely a teacher. I hold an M.Phil and am currently pursuing my PHD in travel and tourism. This is something I enjoy and always wanted to do. Even during the peak of my career, I took six months off to teach a semester. I only did hosting and didn’t take up any shoots or ad projects. It is important to keep the teacher in me alive. At some point I would love to start an organization to educate kids and people in need. You have adopted kids? There have been some misconceptions in this area so let me make this clear. I adopted Prakash and was supporting him with education and expenses. Nearly a year later, his mother who had lost him, found him. Though my heart broke a little to see him go, I was very happy that he could be re united with his mother. Santosh is my second son. He is very happy and doing extremely well in studies. He is always showing me things that he did, but is quite shy with me. He talks to my husband though. It’s a very sweet feeling, being able to support a child. What is something that people don’t know about you? I am very nervous before shows and I am not very confident. My director used to get mad at me and tease me a lot. After every event is over, a little bit of me would be dead inside (she laughs). I am abnormally scared. This is something I want to change. I am actually a very quiet person in real life. My husband always ends up explaining to people that I am not angry nor upset, but this is the way I am.

Birthday 17th February Dream guest on your show The superstar himself. Coffee or tea? Filter Coffee Favorite travel destination I love London. Dubai and Singapore are also my favorites as they are extremely safe and secure for women. Favorite Brand Mango Favorite VJ My sister (Priyadarshini) New actresses with promise Shruthi Hassan and Natasha. They are smart and level headed. Who does DD obey? My sister. She knows in her own way, how to tell me things. How would you describe Chennai? Amazing food whether you pay Rs. 50, 500 or 5000. People are friendly and nice. Wherever I am, I always want to come back home to Chennai.

behind the scenes with dd

From Your Very Own Chennai Girl The story behind the cover-story and staying cool this summer.

A

midst the mind boggling decision for the apt celeb for the Wtzup Chennai launch issue cover shoot, we found that we had a lot of favorites. Unanimously we narrowed it down to Chennai’s favorite Dhivyadharshini , chellama reffered to as DD, from the popular ‘Koffee with DD’ series. Skeptical intially, with much coaxing she nodded positive for the shoot. Despite a knee injury, she appeared in her favourite yellow salwar. A few expert finishing touches unveiled the true diva within. The camera rolled by absorbing the very essence, transforming them into magical shots. Special mention for her sister Priyadarshini, who was so sweet and made our entire crew feel so

comfortable and at home. Thank you DD and team. Moving on, summer time is here. Time for summer holidays, summer courses, summer delicacies and loads of summer fun. As the heat waves take over the city, Chennaiites have learnt to embrace the season more than ever by chilling with some cooling watermelons, tender coconut water, ice golas, thayir sadam, cold buttermilk, cucumbers and old-school Rasna. So my dear machas, stay happy and stay hydrated and don’t forget to grab a refreshing copy of Wtzup Chennai this month. Lodgy gets lodged... Renault is set to make its presence be felt in the MPV market. With a lot to offer, the Renault Lodgy is definitely chanigng the game. Watch out!

F

rench automobile maker Renault is on a spin in the Indian market, with them trying to make their presence in every segment felt. They have now entered the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) market with their seven-seater Lodgy. Their new addition Lodgy, is a product of Romanian subsidiary Dacia, under which Duster was created. Lodgy has got nods for almost all the criterion to come under the MPV group; petrol and diesel mills, seven seat configuration and oodles of space all around. Renault MPVs were the first cars to feature automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers. They also carried the olympic torch in 1992 and served as the official carrier for the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The other premium sedans are premium Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Koleos, Fluence and Scala, compact SUV Duster and hatchback Pulse. The word Lodgy is derived from the English word ‘Lodge’, suggesting that the car can accommodate a family and its luggage comfortably. Renault used the second-generation Logan as a basis for the development of the Lodgy. Hence both these cars share the same

Aabha Muralidharan

underpinnings- known as the M0 platform. It is the first example of a right-hand driven version of the car anywhere in the world. The overall design of the Lodgy is clean and simple. It has ample chrome on the front just like the Duster. The interiors provide plenty of space to seat a large family. The third row has 144mm legroom and 866mm headroom making it comfortable for adults to sit. It has 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine. Renault Lodgy comes with a number of high spec safety and security features for maximum safeguards. Features like ABS with

EBD for efficient brake system, multiple airbags for safety of driver and co-passenger and park assist sensors for facilitating easy parking come with this new upcoming SUV model. Topend variants of Renault Lodgy feature a touch screen multimedia infotainment system. A high quality door panel is also desirable in this utility vehicle. Ukraine was the first international market for this model where this much awaited MPV seemed to flaunt its acquired French identity. The early 2015 launch of the people carrier in the Indian market was decided after extensive testing.
