eah! The rains are back, and Chennai I must say, is a definitely a better place to live in at the moment. So, people who migrated to Kodaikanal, Bangalore, and other cooler stations, you can come back now. Though the showers are mostly in the evenings, the sun is not as glaring as it used to be in the past couple of months. Lots of new restaurants have opened up, and malls are back to being crowded with their annual sales going on.Those who had breakups are nursing their wounded hearts, those who are single are finding love and those in established relationships are enjoying the meaning and value it has added to their lives. As the temperature has dropped down, so have the fights in general, be it in traffic or public places. The city is more silent and calmer these days. There is also a sense of laziness during the afternoon, come evening and people are stepping out to a cooler climate. There is more partying and more catching up. This month, check out our exclusive cover story with singer and actor, Vijay Yesudas, son of the legendary singer Yesudas. He talks about his stint in Maari, debuting as the villain cop, to his undying love for music and being the proud parent of two lovely children. Though he initially did turn out to be quite the villain in real life when he made our crew wait for four hours for the shoot. When he did finally turn up, he was a true gentleman and apologised politely. We couldn’t blame him either, given his hectic work schedules and a week old newborn son. Forgivable! Killer looks and attitude radiated throughout the shoot only affirming that this man was truly made for showbiz. When asked if he would like to be referred to as a singer or actor here on, he proudly chimed in-“ once a singer, always a singer” only re-establishing his deep rooted passion. Our sources tell us that not only is he a doting father who emphasizes on the smallest of the things like personally going to pick up and drop his daughter Amaya for her evening music classes, but also a very loyal and supportive husband. A quality quite rare in today’s generation, specially in the fields of acting and music. We would like to congratulate the couple on their new bundle of joy and Vijay good luck on his future projects. Hope you enjoyed, India’s largest motion picture- Baahubali, part 1. Waiting for the sequel. Sarah George Brand Manager

Eclectic at ETC The newest addition to the culinary scene in Chennai will have you wanting more. Rahul Dev
E
TC is the one of the new restaurants in town, tucked away in a quiet corner, in the upscale Rutland Gate. Though in the center of the fashion and lifestyle market of Chennai, we suggest that you ask for directions before you decide to venture over. ETC is not just a place but an experience. The moment you step in, you feel that there is much more to the restaurant than just food. The whole idea of ETC was born in the minds of few college mates who wanted to create something novel and different. A corridor leads to the main dining area that feels warm and comfortable. We were greeted by uniformed staff who lead us to our table. As we were being seated, Chef Arun – The man behind the cuisine, came in to welcome us and show us around. On that day, the buffet was the highlight, with authentic Chennai Cuisine being showcased. Chef Arun insisted that we do a property tour first. We followed him to the rear side of the restaurant and lo and behold!....the view just changed. It looked just like something out of a movie set. Chairs with parts from Bajaj scooters, walls with paintings and benches made from an old catamaran, made for an eclectic setting. He took us to the cafe upstairs which also doubled up as a game room with all sorts of board games and premium ambience. We
were so taken away by the place that we almost forgot the food. Though the spread of the Madras buffet including fish with mango, rice and rasam was tempting, we decided that we would stick to the main menu. We headed out to the back to sit and soak in the ambience. We were welcomed with ‘panineer’ soda and buttermilk. While both tasted different and good, the garnishing of rose petals on the soda and ‘kara boondi’ in the buttermilk showed the passion with which each dish was created. Starters and mocktails followed. We would recommend the Virgin Madras –cranberry, orange and Tabasco spiced guava. The Crispy Corn Pops was quite interesting, plated in edible ‘pappad’ cups and the Prawn Spring with hot garlic sauce is a must try. This was followed by the main course of Cambodian Fried Noodles and Barbeque Chicken – The former being a must have for the spice aficionado. But the highlight of the meal was the desert – ‘Too much Chocolate Cake’ was just too much. We could not but binge on it and even the succulent cheesecake, the best in Chennai so far, which followed could not stop us from going at it again and again.ETC is a great place to hangout with friends for brunch or a long winding evening. The menu is exciting, and the sinful desserts must not be missed.

e all know Vijay Yesudas as a third generation Singer and son of K.J Yesudas, who is synonymous with playback singing in the Indian film industry. But there is more to him than meets the eye. Born and brought up in the city of Chennai, Vijay was never pushed into the family’s tradition of music. After he graduated from the University of Miami, he returned to India to follow his destiny as a musician. He started singing in the Malayalam film industry and overcame many barriers to become one of the most sought after playback singers in the country. He has won numerous awards and worked on many prestigious projects. He is stylish, charming and was often mistaken as an actor. After numerous offers, he decided to take the plunge into acting. He had travelled along with his dad on numerous tours and today tours the world along with his family. He has managed to carve a space for himself and managed to walk out of a shadow, that of a living legend, his father. He is comfortable in genres and languages, recording in different languages and

We had an opportunity to meet this young singer, who is warm and energetic, and ready to talk about his journey in the world of music. The year that is. I am a singer and I have been in the industry for almost 15 years. I have been learning and experiencing the industry and today, I feel comfortable in the place that I am. In the initials days, I was perceived to have a bad attitude and to be arrogant. Though I am warm with people who are close to me, I didn’t know how to react to people who I met for the first time. Today I have stopped reacting to many situations and it has helped change the way that people perceive me. Though I have started acting, I don’t consider myself as an actor yet but I have enjoyed the experiences to the hilt. I feel that my career is like the Mount Everest, and I have reached base camp. A long way to go! The years that were. I was born in Chennai and studied in Don Bosco till 2nd grade and then moved on to KFI. I left for Florida after the Ninth Grade. Though I used to get a few lessons of music from my dad, I never had any formal training till I started learning the piano. Later I auditioned for the graduation program at the School of Music, The University of Miami and cleared it. I think this was the turning point in my life where I got a completely new perspective on music. I also trained for vocals during this time. In 2000, I sang my first song for the Malayalam movie, ‘Millennium Stars’ for music director Vidya Sagar. Technically, my first song was at the age of 7, directed by the legend, Dakhsnamoorthy for ‘Edanazhiyil Oru Kalocha.’ Though I had an easy stint in movies, I was often compared to my dad and also faced many critics complaining about my accent. This continued till I met M Jayachandran, who helped correct my accent and to hone my skills. The actor. I have done just two movies and that too because I was closer to the people who were making them. I play a cop in the movie ‘Maree’ and a cameo in the movie ‘Avan.’ Currently I am listening to a few scripts and may sign something, if I find it interesting. I am enjoying the success and popularity of the song Malarae from the super hit movie, ‘Premam.’ In Tamil, I have worked for ‘Urmeen’ and ‘Yakshan’. The family man. I love spending time with my family - my wife – Darshana, my daughter - Ameya and my son who is just a few weeks old. I am close to my parents and also my brothers. We love travelling together on music tours and like my mother was for my father, Darshana is a pillar of strength for me. My father never gave us a chance to complain about him not being around, despite him being busier than me at this age. Though I try to ensure that I also follow the same example,

here is no woman who hasn’t at one point wished that they didn’t have so much hair. In this article we are discussing facial hair on women. Sometimes the male chest too. Evey time we wax or shave or tweeze it, it seems to come back darker and thicker with a vengeance. Well, we are a very large group of women and a few men too who would like to bid adieu to this unwanted visitor. Excessive unwanted facial hair in women can lead to social withdrawal and emotional distress. The dissatisfaction with their appearance and persistent pattern of hair removal practices can become obsessive and intrusive on the daily lives of affected individuals, resulting in substantial psychosocial burden. When should I see my doctor ? If you have stiff and pigmented body hair, appearing on the body where women don’t commonly have hair-primarily the face, chest and back with or without balding & acne, you should consult a doctor. We need to rule out Polycystic
ovarian syndrome, certain medications, hormonal imbalances and insulin resistance. It may also happen for no specific reason if there is a strong family history. What kind of doctor should I see? All these specialists can deal with identifying the cause for the hair growth and also treat the underlying problem. So the choice remains with the patient. But the process of hair removal is best done with the dermatologist, especially one with in-house facility for the same. What are my options? Physical Removal- Inexpensive, and often done at home. Discomfort, resultant folliculitis, rapid regrowth, and the possibility of scarring or hyperpigmentation are common side effects. Persistent hair follicle issues are common side effects of habitual removal of unwanted hair through physical means. Laser Hair Removal- Laser light uses selective thermolysis to target pigmented hair shafts. The heat absorbed by the hair shaft will destroy it. Various lasers and light sources have been used for this treatment and results vary depending on the skin type of the patient, the colour of the hair (ineffective on light-coloured hair) the growth phase of the hair, and the operator. Sometimes blistering, hyperpigmentation, scarring and rarely over growth of hair could happen. The possibility of permanent hair reduction is high with lasers. The Diode laser suits the Indian skin and hair the most. Hormones - Anti-androgen therapy using oral contraceptives and Spironolactone are effective in preventing fresh hair growth. But the existing hairs need to be removed. Side-effects include menstrual irregularities, breast tenderness, weight gain etc. Rare side-effects of contraceptive pills include cerebro-vascular events, heart attack, or venous thromboembolism. Topical agents - Does not remove hair or stop growth, but slows hair growth, and shortens both the length and mass of hair. Topical eflornithine HCl is effective against all causes of excessive facial hair, regardless of hair colour. It can be used to treat lighter vellus hairs and can serve as a useful combination to other techniques. Studies have shown that it increases the efficacy of laser hair removal.
