Is Your Partner

Stressed?

Be the perfect partner by helping your loved one combat stress.

Sharanya Nandakishore

I

t’s quite natural for anyone to get stressed at work. You could help your partner figure out the issue and support him/her to tackle it . Stress could be a small problem but its repercussions could be huge. Here are a few simple steps to approach the situation.

make a few suggestions.

Take care of one thing and that is to not make it your personal problem. Making it personal will only make it worse, as your judgement will become clouded. Talk to your partner and help him/her figure out what exactly the issue is. Ask your partner, if he/she has already found a solution for it. Listen to their ideas or else

Make a warm or cold drink that your partner likes, so that they can relax a little bit a and look at the situation objectively.

Take your partner for a drive and then dine out at his/her favourite cuisine.

Enquire what support your partner expects from your side. Say you are around and he/she could rely on you whenever needed.

Encourage your partner to exercise everyday in the morning and make it a routine. This would help him/her to relax at work.

n life’s daily grind, what suffers most in a woman’s routine is exercise. Reading on exercise, diet plans and fitness does help but fitness also requires special time to be set aside and more importantly hard work. Break up your exercise If you work on the seventh floor of a building, you could start off by going down one floor and coming up twice a day. After a week of doing this continuously, you could change change this routine to two floors. After two weeks, you could up it to three floors and also increase the frequency to three times daily. if you are determined you will find a way even if it means breaking up the exercise into several smaller installments. Healthy Eating Eating healthy does not always mean a strict diet plan. It is about eating sensibly. Eat a hearty breakfast in the morning. If your job pushes mealtimes too far apart, stock up on healthy snacks for

Give your partner space to think over the issue. You might feel that you are deserting your partner in the situation. Moreover, this gives them some freedom to think over the issue with an assurance that you are around to help out.

WtzupCity.com/HEALTH those in between hunger pangs. Make this a habit. And if you can’t escape finishing what is on your child’s plate, simply use a smaller plate for yourself. Post lunch walk Walk across to a company canteen or café to eat your lunch, Never eat at your desk. One, you will be tempted to work while eating, which is not a good idea. Two, you won’t get a chance to walk post your lunch, thereby losing out the little chance that you have of digesting your food. Similarly, if you’re at home, avoid the afternoon siesta. Stretch Stretch yourself every hour or so. It prevents muscles from becoming sore and aching at the end of the day. It improves circulation and also helps remove toxins from your body. If you’re at work and feel embarrassed breaking into semi -yoga at the office, just head to the cloakroom and do them there. If you’re at home, then set aside some time twice a day. Simply bending and touching your toes, a couple of neck and shoulder rotations and knee rotations will go a long way in making you feel more agile and energetic.

Engineering

Engineers have taken over the whole world and here comes a movie that is entirely made by engineers. Varun Kannan

Paulose Pepography

its humble beginnings and is ready to set off path-breaking trends in Malayalam cinema. The two men were soon joined onboard by Varun Unni, another engineer who found his calling in music and with the three, the project started rolling. In a country, where career choices start and end with engineering and where engineers are dime a dozen, the movie will tell the story of a group of engineers. To Malayalam cinema, engineers have always been a constant asset. It would not be wrong to state that the loss of technology and engineering has been the gain of cinema. We have engineers making it big in every aspect of cinema, be it film-making, acting, direction, music, cinematography, DOP, there is not one place that has gone untouched by engineers. “So a story about the lives of the many engineers immediately appealed to me”, says Vinil. Next came the challenge of finding actors to play the roles. Vinil was sure about one thing from the start, that a majority of those involved in the movie were to be engineers. That was Oraesh Kumar

C

inema always has a story behind the story that it narrates on-screen; the story of its making and of the people involved in its making. And more often than not, the behind-the-screen story is as compelling as the story that it narrates on- screen. The story behind our movie starts with Vijith, working at a plush job as an engineer with Siemens in Dubai quitting it and deciding to pursue his dreams in cinema as a writerscriptwriter. Someone who had grown up watching and loving Malayalam movies, he comes back to Kerala looking to get in touch

10

with directors who could give life to his story. What follows is the usual drill, a few meetings denied, sessions of ridicule and disdain; scenes that definitely didn't look rosy. And then through a Facebook correspondence, he meets Vinil Vasu, the maverick producerdirector who has made quite a name as a risktaker. Vinil reads the story and immediately senses something brilliant about the movie. And the decision to give life to the story is made with no further ado. Engineering the Movie Forward That’s how the journey began for two men who set out to make a movie that started off from

WtzupCity.com/COVERSTORY

to make his task harder as he had a smaller pool of talent to hunt from. “I believe that there is an actor lurking in all of us. We are constantly playing different roles in our life. So I was looking for people who played these roles with panache.” At a time when actors are increasingly being chosen from acting schools, this was a fresh way to look at it. And as far as history goes, a bus-conductor who was spotted similarly has gone on to become the biggest star the country has ever seen. The Act of Engineering Thus began the search for actors and the first to come was Abith, an engineer who jokes that who was lured into engineering by the promise of a bike from his dad. Having joined and completed engineering, and thus earning his bike, he moved into the family business of pipes. It didn’t take much convincing; Abith was always an actor says Vinil. Next was Rohith, the macho man who had a chance meeting with Vinil at the gym. Rohith is your quintessential Malayali engineering grad, meaning he had his share of backlogs. His journey into the movie has also been accompanied by his struggles off- screen. Then came Justin, who has lived and dreamt only about cinema and has been in a penance to get into cinema, and Prajin (Adam), the streetsmart Kottakal boy who is lovingly called the

Emraan Hashmi of the movie. The last one to join was Oraesh, a pro- boxer who was drawn into the movie in a way which would make you believe in destiny.

industry. In spite of all its momentous nature, the crew and actors are solely excited about making a movie about friendship and togetherness. The team looks ready to deliver and we can't wait for the movie to be out.

“This movie has a story off-screen as much as it has its story on-screen. Everyone in the movie has had to fight in their personal lives to take on the movie.” Vinil says and that has been his dream too- opening up windows for newcomers into Malayalam Cinema. This movie titled “A for Apple, B for B-Tech” is probably the only one in Malayalam to spend a copious amount of time on pre-production. The actors are being trained in all the areas of cinema with workshops and interaction with the pioneers in the industry. The dream that the writer and the director saw is slowly coming to fruition. An ensemble of the best talents within the vast pool of engineers has got together and is raring to go. In fact, the small dream that these men saw has gotten out of hands and grown bigger. The music of the movie is to be launched by Sony Music making it one of the earliest Malayalam movies to get the distinction and Oscar winner Resul Pookutty is all ready to join the movie. As the camera starts rolling soon, this movie looks to be the one that will truly change the way movies be made in the Malayalam rohith sreenath

Women and the crowd had much to say about choices, decisions and actions. Many agreed that more women should be in leadership roles while some disagreed about freedom to move around after hours. Gender sensitization was another interesting point raised. We are equally liable to raise our sons and daughters and teach them the same values and outlook. It was the women’s turn to speak and when they did, it was truly inspiring. Following the lively discussion, the High on Life session by Me Met Me relaxed the audience. The event at Le Meridien on March 8 was appreciated by many and the positive response has resulted in the decision to hold this event again. Let Your Head

Naked beans need care too; let’s make it easier for rejuvenation.

W

omen usually have second thoughts about going bald, whether you do it at the barber shop, high-end salon or at a religious institution. When questioned on the choice to shear those lovely locks, the answers have been either they have dreamt a lot of the day, to get better roots, out of devotion to god, donations, to feel how it is to get bald, to break stereotypes, etc. A woman needs to have a lot of courage and should be ready to answer a lot of people when she goes bald in a country like India. From Demi Moore, Natalie Portman to our own Shabana Azmi, many celebs have rocked the look with attitude. Anyways, hats off to all the fearless species of women who have come forward in such style. So if you are enjoying the wind on your scalp or planning to, this article is for you. Even a bald head needs maintenance. Oiling is forever – When your head has been shaved, a thin layer of dead cells of the scalp is also removed. Hence, oiling is a must. A mixture of castor, almond, and olive oil is always a good combination for rejuvenating your old hair with a lot more roots and gives your new roots better texture. Bubble and moisturize – Even though you are shaved, never quit shampooing and conditioning your head for a happy shiny head. It’s very obvious for dirt to stick on to the scalp and to form flakes over your head, for which foaming and moisturizing is a must. Leisure head taps – When sitting free, have a habit of tapping your scalp with your fingertips. This relaxes you well and increases blood circulation which helps faster hair growth.

14

Sharanya Nandakishore

It’s the motherboard - Yes! Your head is the Motherboard of the body. When the head heats up or cools down, so does the body. For this reason, use a hat when needed. Overheating or overcooling will equally result in slowing down hair growth. Sun protection fact – The head gets tanned when in the sun faster than any other part of the body. A sunscreen not less than SPF15 should be applied 15 minutes before you get out in the sun. Hydrate- Drink a lot of water and keep your body hydrated and this will keep you out of dryness. The dryness happens in the mouth initially and mostly due to overexposure of the scalp to the elements.

How does hair Color Works?

Nowadays, hair color is a must for all, but make sure you get an expert advice from professionals. Level-1, semi-permanent hair color, contains tiny color molecules that enter your hair's cuticle and go to your hair's cortex. The molecules are so small that they exit the hair shaft after just 6-12 shampoos. Demipermanent hair color contains pre-color molecules that penetrate the cuticle and enter the cortex where they join with the other pre-color molecules. When the pre-color molecules join together with other pre-color molecules, they create medium-sized color molecules. The molecules are larger than the semi-permanent hair color molecules, meaning that the demi-permanent hair color lasts longer, 24-26 shampoos. Permanent Color, Level-3, is made up of tiny molecules that go all the way to the second layer of the hair, the cortex, this is where the tiny molecules expand to a large size that cannot be washed out. Eventually, the permanent hair color will have to grow out. After you have colored your hair, you must take care of our freshly colored locks. Ask your hairstylist for his or her advice about a good shampoo to use that is made especially for color-treated hair.

it comes to furniture. While buying a whole lounge room set is easier, it may wind up looking generic. Lighten Up Lighting in the living room is something that should not be overlooked. Using a ceiling lamp, table lamps and floor lamps, create a balance of light throughout the room. Make sure there is plenty of light available for reading and, if possible, make a focus point to isolate the main activity area of the room.

Color Tales To make the room seem large, a monochrome is your safest bet. But an overdose of white or grey can kill you with sheer boredom. But the good news is that a plain interior palette is the perfect canvas to add pops of color. So buy a few colored cushions, throw in some brilliantly vibrant lamps or pieces but remember the 80/20 rule: it always has to be 80 per cent neutrals to 20 per cent color. Anbendraale

Amma

A musical journey wrapped in tribute to Motherhood

A

Neethu Parvathy S.

s Mitch Albom said, “There's a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother's story because hers is where you begin.” The musical video “Anbendraale Amma” by Rejith Menon throws light on the story of every mother, the story on where you begin, which becomes a forgotten tale in many of our lives. No suspense, no twists, but a touching story, "Anbendraale Amma" (With Love Maa) created ripples in the minds of millions. Rejith Menon, actor and director made a massive hit with

the release of his second visual treat on 26th January 2016 that captured the soul of many. The brilliant acting and contribution of Zarina Wahab, Anson Paul, Surbhi Tewari, Saritha Sugith and the four kids added to its success. The eight-minute video takes you on the journey of a mother’s life, right from that first cry where motherhood embraces her until she leaves the world and her child, with a heavy heart. They say babies are angels but often their wings start shedding as their legs grow. The transition always hurts, especially for that heart whose world revolves around her child. When cute babbling sounds transform to harsh words, when warm hugs turn to abrupt jolts; her mind silently screams in pain. The video is more of a glance to your past as most of the scenes have traces of every

person’s life. The universal nature of the video grabbed the attention of many and reaped a lot of positive response. "I’m personally very attached to my mother and that is one of the reasons why I took this plot,” said Rejith Menon. He shares a touching incident on how his mother burst into tears after watching a stunt scene from his debut movie ‘Goal’ and how she used to play pranks to get him fed in his childhood days. Hardly any celeb would have missed sharing the video, which grabbed their minds. Many of the Mollywood stars made personal calls to the young director and shared their feelings on how many of the scenes traced back to their childhood memories with their mother. If viewers could find oneself in an artwork, there lies the success of the creator and Rejith feels delighted and blessed for his success.
