LETTER FROM THE EDITORS Welcome to knitscene Accents 2018! This premiere, digital-only publication was inspired by busy lives and the knitscene accessories you’ve been loving. Its fusion of colorful yarns, fun HANNAH BAKER EDITOR, INTERWEAVE KNITS

SARAH ROTHBERG EDITOR, KNITSCENE

and interesting stitch patterns, simple

techniques, and adorable styling creates a collection of 20 projects that will get you excited to cast on throughout the year. For this issue, we wanted to give you a variety of thoughtful, quality yarns that range in fiber and retail price, so you can find something that perfectly suits you, your needs, and your style. We worked with 10 yarn companies to achieve this, and you’ll find two projects made with yarn from each yarn company in these pages. Many thanks to our yarn partners who helped make this happen: Red Heart Yarns, Bijou Basin Ranch, Sugar Bush Yarns, Harrisville Designs, Black Wolf Ranch, Simply Shetland, Jones & Vandermeer, Lorna’s Laces, Trendsetter Yarns, and Plymouth Yarn. Additionally, we want to thank our knitting-needle sponsor, HiyaHiya North America, for recommending specific needles tailored to each project so you can get the most out of your knitting experience. Finally, this issue is a collaboration between two editors. As we do our final proofing, Sarah Rothberg is taking stewardship of the knitscene brand as the new editor and has served as knitscene’s assistant editor for quite some time. In classic knitscene fashion, these projects are engaging and approachable, the styling is contemporary, and the lighthearted photography will, hopefully, inspire a smile or two. So, go ahead—take a look and see what’s in store!

BREAKER COWL JONES & VANDERMEER CLEVER CAMEL

JONI CONIGLIO

Jones & Vandermeer’s Clever Camel is a very special yarn. The fibers, collected from the downy undercoat of two-humped Bactrian camels, are sold in gorgeous natural shades and a selection of smart dyed offerings. The fabric is soft and light, with a soft stitch definition that begs for a hand to squish it.

The Breaker Cowl calls for a provisional cast-on at the beginning so you can graft it in garter stitch at the end. This allows you to knit the piece back and forth in rows and seam it, but the seam will be totally invisible. Beneath the surface of its 24 heathered colorways, this yarn has an uncommon structure: two 2-ply yarns are twisted together to make a cable. Cable yarns are elastic and incredibly strong, perfect for a yarn you won’t want to put down. HEATHER ZOPPETTI The Medleys Shawl is just that—a medley of colors and stitch patterns that keep the hands and eyes interested and excited from cast-on to wearing. Knitted with everso-soft lambswool and cashmere yarn, it’s worked in a modular fashion from both ends toward the center. Two triangles join the halves, and the final few stitches come together in the three-needle bind-off. FINISHED SIZE

TURNING CORNERS SCARF SUGAR BUSH YARNS BOLD Yarn is fiber plus twist, and Sugar Bush Bold makes the most of both! Extrafine superwash merino makes it incredibly soft, and the layers of twist in the yarn’s structure make it springy and squishy. Distinguished stitch definition rounds out the package! FIBER: 100% extrafine superwash merino wool

KATE SCALZO The Turning Corners Scarf features a geometric mosaic colorwork pattern with contrasting colors. The chevron pattern transitions from a dark shade to light, then back to dark.
