Welcome to Wool Studio Vol. IV: The Norah Gaughan Collection—a hand-knitwear capsule collection for the modern knitter. For those not familiar with Norah: she’s a knitting rock star. As a freelance knitwear designer, she has published her patterns in Interweave Knits, knit.wear, Making, Pom Pom, and Vogue Knitting, to name a few. She spent nine years at MEGHAN BABIN NORAH GAUGHAN Berroco Yarn as design director and during that time published sixteen design collections for the brand. She has partnered with prestigious yarn companies including Quince & Co. and The Fibre Co. and currently is on the in-house design team for Brooklyn Tweed. And if that isn’t impressive enough, she published Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook (Harry N. Abrams, 2016), a collection of original cable patterns from her thirty years of inventing with yarn. Norah’s designs are creative and unique but always wearable. Inventive cables, unexpected lace and texture, and playful geometric shapes are all trademarks of a Norah Gaughan design. Knowing her design aesthetic was a perfect match for Wool Studio’s focus on contemporary knitwear design, I reached out to Norah in 2016 to see if she would contribute to the publication. To my delight, she said yes immediately. A few months later, her Hartwich Top appeared in Wool Studio Vol. I and soared to the top of Ravelry’s “Hot Right Now” list. Riding on that success, she and I put our heads together to develop an entire knitwear collection. Over the last year, I’ve had the privilege of observing Norah’s design process. Although I offered my thoughts about colors and honing down design options, this collection is entirely Norah’s. In this issue of Wool Studio, you’ll find ten original Norah Gaughan projects—five garments and five accessories—all with her trademark design characteristics. We’ve partnered with Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts, Blue Sky Fibers, Cardiff Cashmere, HiKoo by Skacel, Jagger Spun, Plymouth Yarn, Rowan, Sugar Bush Yarns, Tahki Yarns, and Trendsetter to unite modern design with luxurious yarn. As knitters know, our tools are as important as the yarn, which is why we’ve also partnered with Denise Interchangeable, known for its affordable, functional, and travel-friendly interchangeable needle sets. This mother/daughter-founded business is entirely owned and operated by women, and the company’s needles, hooks, accessories, and Denise2Go cotton cases are manufactured in Virginia. A portion of the profit of every Denise’s Pink Project Needle Set sold goes to breast cancer research; with the support of the S. D. Ireland Cancer Research Fund, 100 percent of donated funds go directly to research. So as you knit something beautiful for yourself or another, you can also give back with your choice of needles. Our entire Wool Studio team hopes you find this collection inspiring, the yarns alluring, and the tools purposeful. And thank you to Norah Gaughan for the passion, individuality, and thoughtfulness she brought to each design. It was a pleasure for us to work with her and share this beautiful collection with you. TRENDSETTER YARNS PURE COLLECTION NEW YORK New York is a rather special yarn. Made with 100% organic merino wool, the fibers are minimally processed so that the yarn retains the tactile qualities of raw fiber. The remaining lanolin is also great for your hands while knitting. Take care to handwash your project to allow the stitches to fully bloom. Colors shown here: Black Mélange, Dark Olive Mélange, Charcoal Mélange, Grey Mélange, and Cream Mélange. Additional colors and retailers can be found HERE. FIBER: 100% organic merino wool

SLOAN DRESS Pull on the Sloan Dress over tights or jeans and set out to face the world. This piece is destined for constant year-round wear; on cold winter days, layer it over long sleeves and woolen tights, and in the spring and summer, wear it with sandals. ROWAN FELTED TWEED DISTRIBUTED BY SIRDAR, USA Rowan Felted Tweed is an icon in the yarn world. This beautiful and soft tweed is perfect for colorwork, cables, texture, and plain fabric alike. NATURE • INSPIRATION • GLORIOUS COLOURS!

ANCIENT ARTS FIBRE CRAFTS NETTLE SOFT This silky, luxurious, DK-weight yarn is made with an eco-friendly blend of fine merino and nettle. Nettle is a highly sustainable, low-impact plant fiber that creates a yarn that holds warmth in winter and breathes in summer. The silkiness of the nettle fiber gives this yarn drape and luster, and the merino provides stitch definition. Because the nettle does not absorb dye, the blend of fibers creates a lovely contrast. Colors shown here: Birch Leaves, Baby Aubergine, Eat Your Vegetables, Fog Warning, and Lichen In My Crevices. Additional colors and retailers can be found HERE.

MURRAY PULLOVER The Murray Pullover blends two hand-dyed colorways to create an artistic, speckled fabric achieved by alternating the colorways in stripes of varying sizes. An openwork mesh stitch helps obscure any transition lines and keeps the sweater light and breathable for multi-season wear.
