A NOTE FROM THE EDITORS
“Wool Studio." Does it sound like a workspace where fluffy sheep work on producing their fleeces? Or does it bring to mind a bright, open, gallery-style room with wood floors, tables, and overflowing shelves of natural-colored yarn? A busy, colorful space full of designers and yarn-makers? This issue of Wool Studio brings together the work of a group of editors, designers, and yarn makers in a true partnership. With Wool Studio Volume VI, we enter our fourth year of this experiment in sophisticated, simple, and luxurious knitwear that pairs exceptional designers with splendid yarns. This issue converges around the theme of geometry: lines, curves, and polygons, in addition to the three-dimensional forms that make up every stitch of knitwear. Embracing this mathematical prompt, designers Irina Anikeeva, Stella Egidi, Donna Estin, Amy Gunderson, Susanna IC, Maria Leigh, Linda Marveng, Kate Gagnon Osborn, Kephren Pritchett, and Cheryl Toy created tops, cardigans, and wraps calculated to please. The other part of the equation is the yarn companies whose exceptional work is featured here: Blue Sky Fibers, Fibra Natura (distributed by Universal Yarn), Jagger Spun, Jo Sharp (distributed by Kingfisher Yarn & Fibre), Kelbourne Woolens, Lorna’s Laces, Mountain Meadow Wool, Plymouth Yarn, Sugar Bush Yarns, and Trendsetter Yarns. This issue is not only a creative joint project between designer and yarn but also within the creative team at Interweave, where we approached the project as an internal collaboration. Founding editor Meghan Babin’s hand is still visible here, but editors Sara Dudek, Hannah Baker, and Anne Merrow have all joined senior project editor Joni Coniglio and senior designer Bekah Thrasher to bring this issue together. Wool Studio is a creative home for wearable luxury knitting designs. Enjoy this new collection of everyday classics and create your own kind of wool studio— wherever you knit.

BLUE SKY FIBERS BABY ALPACA SPORT WEIGHT The soft warmth of alpaca fiber finds an ideal balance in this sportweight yarn. Long and lustrous alpaca fibers come together with moderate twist, forming a yarn with plenty of drape and a velvety hand. The Mélange colorways add vibrance to the subtle heathers of naturally colored fiber. Color shown here: #812 Blue Cheese Find additional colors and retailers HERE. FIBER: 100% baby alpaca
ORTHAGON WRAPPER KEPHREN PRITCHETT The perfect balance of light with dark, simple with clever, and light with cozy, this generous shawl hits all the right angles. Stripes of varying widths are bent into chevrons at opposite ends, and the balance between the colors shifts evenly from end to end. This wrapper is worked in two halves that are grafted together in the center. The clean I-cord border wraps up a perfect package.

KELBOURNE WOOLENS MOJAVE Cotton and linen complement each other beautifully—cool and crisp—but the short cotton and long linen fibers can be difficult to blend in a stable yarn. Mojave brings together five 2-plies and joins them with opposite twist, making a cable that tucks the fibers together securely. The result is a refined but machine-washable blend.
TRIGONO TEE KATE GAGNON OSBORN This breezy summer top is worked in pieces from the bottom up, stacking regular rows of triangles into a stylish boxy silhouette. The shoulders are shaped with short-rows. After seaming the shoulders and sides, pick up stitches for the garter-stitch armhole and neck bands.
