Comparison of the results of surveys conducted among students in Poland and in Cyprus.

212 students of both schools were surveyed in total: 90 students (40 boys and 50 girls) of the Polish school and 122 students (61 boys and 61 girls) of the Cypriot school. The question: ‘Do you know the definition of the word robotics’ was answered ’yes’ by 47 Polish students and 40 Cypriot students. When asked about the source of their knowledge on this subject, both Polish and Cypriot students chose TV as the most frequent source, followed by the internet and school. The students indicated the industry as a field in which robots are applicable. However, the Polish students indicated significantly more areas in which robots can be used. Students, both in Poland and Cyprus, in the vast majority state that they have excellent, very good and good skills in building with LEGO bricks. However, as far as building simple machines is concerned, most students state average skills in this area. As to the question concerning the construction of robots with Lego bricks, 46 Polish students claim they have at least good skills while students from Cyprus indicate that they do not have skills in this area. Similar are the responses concerning computer programming and programming of a robot in which the Polish students indicate good or very good skills while Cypriot students minor or no skills in this area. Both Polish and Cypriots students claim high abilities of teamwork. They also assess highly their abilities to handle with and solve problems as well as using computers and following specific instructions. 59% percent of Polish and 37% of Cypriot respondents are interested in enriching their knowledge of robotics. Survey results indicate that both Polish and Cypriot students have general knowledge of robotics. They are able to cooperate in teams, use computers and follow instructions. There can be visible differences in answers concerning constructing and programming robots in favor of Polish students. This may result from the fact that the Polish students carried out an eTwinning project related to robotics in which they used Lego bricks, thus they gained skills in the theme. The students of both schools want to attend classes to deepen their knowledge within robotics.
