SHOW POLICIES Anti-Harassment

Origins Game Fair would like to assure our attendees that we are committed to the safety of every person at the show. We have created a convention code of conduct policy that fosters a safe and welcome space for all gamers. We have implemented a policy where every volunteer will be subject to a background check before being allowed to participate in our program. We have contracted with a counseling professional to train our staff how to respond to any inappropriate behavior by those attending this year’s Origins Game Fair. We do not tolerate harassment of convention participants in any form. Convention participants reported or caught violating this policy may be expelled without refund at the discretion of show management. Harassment is any unwanted contact, which includes (but is not limited to): physical or verbal threats; unwelcome attention; stalking; unwanted photography or recording; offensive behavior; use of physical force; behavior that creates a disturbance or is dangerous; using sexually explicit or offensive language or conduct; excessive profanity; obscene gestures; use of racial, religious, sexual, political, gender, ability, ethnic slurs, or any other targeted comments which are intended to cause personal offense to another Origins participant, either in-person at the event or through social media channels. If a person tells you “no,” you are expected to desist immediately. Remember: “No” means no. “Stop” means stop. “Go away” means go away. Attire is not consent. Individuals finding themselves in a situation where they feel their safety is at risk or who become aware of an attendee not in compliance with show policies should immediately locate the nearest Security Guard, Origins Volunteer, or Staff Member, so that the matter can be handled promptly. The Information Booth is next to Registration. During show hours you can always find an Origins Staff Member or Security Guard in the Information Booth.

Family Friendly

Origins Game Fair is a family-friendly convention. Keep this in mind with regards to your personal conduct.

6

SHOW POLICIES Costumes & Weapons

Uniforms of current active service members are not allowed as costumes. These include uniforms for the police, active military, security guards, deputies, fire marshals, paramedics, etc. No real weapons or functional props are allowed at Origins. All weapon replicas must be cleared by convention security and peace-bonded. Visit the Information booth next to registration for assistance with peace-bonding your weapons. If, at any point, you feel like your personal safety or that of others is put in jeopardy, please contact the Columbus Police Department at 614-645-4545 (non-emergency) or 911 (emergency).

Alcohol & Illegal Substances

Possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages outside of authorized areas is prohibited. Illegal substances at Origins will not be tolerated. Violators will be asked to leave the building and charges may be filed for prosecution.

Smoking

Smoking, including the use of electronic smoking devices, is not allowed inside any of the convention facilities, including public areas and participating hotels. Smoking and the use of electronic smoking devices is allowed outside in designated smoking areas. Cigarette butt litter is a hazard to the environment. Please do your part to keep Columbus clean and dispose of your trash in the proper receptacles.

Cancellations & Refunds

Origins Game Fair Badges are not transferable and cannot be cancelled after purchase for this year’s event. Refunds for event tickets are given for cancelled events or up to 24 hours prior to scheduled event time. If the event is cancelled, the event ticket must have the signature from staff at the Event HQ in your area to be refunded.

FAQ Badges and Registration What does my badge include? Origins Game Fair badges cover almost everything you would want to do at the convention including admission to the Exhibit Hall (Thursday through Sunday), all regular events, seminars, workshops, concerts, and the massive Open Gaming Area with a board game library of more than 1,000 games. Most events are covered by your badge, except premium events that have an upcharge to cover materials, prize support or special guest GM/presenter. These premium events will be noted in the event listing on TableTop.events and the Origins App, so you know what events have an extra fee. Do I have to wear my badge? Attendees are required to wear their badge at all times. Your badge grants you access into show areas. If you do not wear your badge, you will be denied entry. You will also be required to wear your vaccination proof bracelet. See full health and safety protocols below. What do I do if I lose my badge? Do not lose your badge. Replacement badges will not be issued. If you lose your badge you will need to purchase a new badge. I need help with this new registration system! On the main Origins page on TableTop.events there are many helpful instructions and videos. Use the Attend drop down button to see the various instructions. Can I use my username and password from last year? No, we have a new system and you must have an account in TableTop.events. Can I use cash at the show? Due to health and safety concerns, we will not be accepting cash at registration during the convention this year. Cash will be accepted, however, in the exhibit hall, food vendors and in the Origins Merchandise booth. How can I get a refund on my Origins 2022 badge? Refunds on new badges purchase in 2022 are available from the TableTop.events website through May 2, 2022. All refunds are subject to a 10% service fee. There are no refunds on balances on account from previous years.

9

FAQ Events How do I participate in an event? If you are not pre-registered for an event you can wait in standby for an event. Check for event locations on TableTop.events and go to the table listed. You can check with the GM or organizer to see if seats are available. If there is an upcharge for an event you will need to use generics (see below). If regular events are now included in my badge, why do I need event tickets? Most scheduled events have limited seating and can only accommodate a specific number of players. People who reserve event tickets will be seated first. If there are remaining seats at the start of the event, the GM will seat those waiting to play. What are generics and how do I get them? Generics are tickets that can be used to buy a seat in an event after players with purchased event tickets have been seated. Generic tickets will be available at Registration. We are phasing out the plastic token generics from past years, and 2022 will be the final year you may use any plastic token generics that you still have from prior years. Please note that as all regular scheduled events are included in your badge price, you will only be able to use generics for upcharge and premium events. How do refunds work? Refunds for event tickets are given for cancelled events or up to 24 hours prior to scheduled event time. If the event is cancelled, the event ticket must have the signature from staff at the Event HQ in your area to be refunded. Please note that only premium events with upcharges will be refunded. If a regular event is cancelled there is no refund as there was no cost for the event. Health and Safety How are you handling COVID-19 safety? All attendees, exhibitors, gamemasters, event organizers, volunteers and event staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a vaccine approved or authorized by the FDA or WHO, and that proof of vaccination will be required to attend the convention. All attendees, exhibitors, gamemasters, event organizers, volunteers and event staff are encouraged to wear a mask while indoors. GMs and event organizers reserve the right to require masks at their event. Where possible please practice social distancing. Tables in the gaming halls and open gaming areas are spaced to increase the distance between tables. We have provided hand sanitizing stations around the convention center, please use them frequently.

10

FAQ Health and Safety (continued) How will you be checking for proof of vaccination? All attendees, exhibitors, gamemasters, event organizers, volunteers and event staff are required to present either a physical vaccination card or photo of the card, along with a matching governmentissued ID, to receive a wristband to show that you have been vax checked. You only need to show this proof once at the show but will need a wristband to pick up your badge in the registration area, as well as to enter program areas throughout the convention center. If you loose your wristband, you will have to return to the vax check station to get a new one. There is no charge for replacing a wristband. Are weapons allowed at Origins? Real weapons and weapons resembling real weapons are not allowed at Origins. Cosplay weapons must be cleared by convention security and peace-bonded. Visit the Security Office directly outside of the Exhibit Hall in the Main Concourse. Replica weapons purchased in the Exhibit Hall must be immediately secured in the purchaser’s vehicle or hotel room. What is peace-bonding? We utilize zip ties to mark items as safe and inspected. Once we have zip-tied your item, you are not permitted to remove it. Security will have zip ties on hand at the show. Visit the Security Office directly outside of the Exhibit Hall in the Main Concourse to peace-bond your item. Are wheelchairs available? The convention center has a limited number of manual wheelchairs available. They are stored at Public Safety Command. If you (or someone you know) needs a wheelchair, contact Public Safety directly at (614) 827-2547. A member of Public Safety will bring the wheelchair to you. You will be asked to exchange a photo ID for the wheelchair, which will be returned to you when you are done using the chair. Is there a lost and found? If you have lost an item or find an item during the show, please visit the Information Booth next to Registration. If possible, found property will be returned to the owner. Any items not claimed will be left at the Security Office and brought back to the Origins office after the close of the show.

FirSt-Timer Advice 1. Don’t over-extend yourself. The GCCC is large and there is a lot to do at Origins Game Fair. You can’t see everything, so just enjoy what you can. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and take breaks throughout the show. 2. Stay Hydrated. Water is important. When you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. Keep a water bottle handy and refill it regularly. 3. Download the App. The Origins Game Fair App is the best way to look up information about the convention. 4. Ask Questions. Staff, volunteers, GMs and exhibitors are all here to help! We are happy to answer questions and if we don’t know the answer, we can probably point you to someone who can. All of us were first-timers once too, and a few of us are first-timers right along side you! 5. Check Out the Game Library. The Origins Game Library has more than 1,000 games for you to check out and play with your friends (or total strangers!) for free with your badge. Learn more about the Game Library on Page 37. 6. Check out the events list. Take a little time to look through the events on TableTop.events. There are so many amazing events included with your badge this year. You can usually find a seat at a seminar and even games that look full can have seats free up. 7. Try Something New. It can be tempting to stick to games and activities you have enjoyed already. With so many events included with your badge, Origins is an amazing opportunity to try something new with no risk. Look for “Rules will be taught” games in the event list or just walk the gaming hall and look for open seats! 8. Exhibit hall demos are fast and informative. Want to experience the most games with the least effort? Exhibitors run tons of awesome demos throughout the show. Get a quick feel for a new game without committing to playing for hours. 9. Don’t miss the back rows of the Exhibit Hall. The big publishers tend to be toward the front of the Exhibit Hall. They have amazing displays and incredible products to try, but don’t forget about the small and independent publishers and designers farther back. Your new favorite game may be hiding back there right now! 10. Watch OriginsTV. Our new streaming program, in partnership with Six Sides of Gaming, is an amazing way to keep up to date on what’s happening at the show. Check out the live stream on the Origins Game Fair YouTUbe channel, through the Origins Game Fair App or on one of the monitors set up throughout the convention center concourse.

Special Guests Satine Phoenix

Satine Phoenix is a consummate storyteller and lifelong creative. From writing, acting, and directing stage theater in the 90’s and having attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for five years studying 3D, 2D, Stop Motion Animation, Sculpture, and Illustration, Satine has spent her life fully immersed in art and play. An award-winning actress, model, comic book artist, and non-fiction author turned Dungeons & Dragons luminary, the former Community Manager of Dungeons & Dragons has always had a passion for building worlds and growing communities. She began filming Dungeons & Dragons games in 2008 and building Hollywood’s D&D Community out of Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd. Playing D&D since 1988 and leading charity focused youth groups since 1991, it was natural for Satine to combine her expertise in the inception of CelebrityChariD20 with Keith Baker in 2010. CCD20 was the original live stream gaming event benefitting Reach Out and Read: a childhood literacy foundation teaching parents the importance of books and reading to children. Continuing her love of acting on stage and on camera, she has been on numerous TV shows, web series, and podcasts. Satine is the host of GM Tips Season 2, the character Sat from Sagas of Sundry: Dread, and Miranda on Vampire: The Masquerade’s LA By Night on Geek and Sundry. In 2017 Satine Phoenix created and Dungeon Mastered Sirens of the Realms & Sirens, a live play Dungeons & Dragons series on the Dungeons & Dragons twitch channel. In 2019 she started her own live stream production company, Gilding Light. Following her love of travel and storytelling, she joined Stefan Pokorny as Co-Host of the Destination Fantastic travel show. Satine has worked on and Dungeon Mastered hundreds of Dungeons & Dragons events around the world, and was named “The Queen of D&D” by Time Magazine. Her impact on the gaming community has been heralded in such publications as Forbes, Health Magazine, i09, Wired, Maxim, Time Magazine, and many others. Satine has proven that the language of play is universal and can bring people together through the power of imagination.

Satine’s Events

Satine Phoenix runs panels, workshops and seminars for communities, universities, businesses, and teams focusing on the power of storytelling and gamification for writing and teambuilding. In addition to being a professional Dungeon Master & Story Coach, Satine Phoenix and her husband Jamison Stone are Co-Creators of the Table Top Roleplaying Campaign and Setting Sirens: Battle of the Bards and gaming vacation events Satine’s Quest. They also work closely with D&D in a Castle as featured Game Masters. The two are always on the frontier of gaming innovation and their partnership with Last Gameboard is a shining example of their innate ability to build a bridge into the future of gaming. Satine is the author of New Praetorians, a female led sci-fi graphic novel series, and The Action Heroine’s Journey, a non-fiction book about the heroes journey from the female perspective utilizing Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. You can find her works of art at BurningQuill.com and learn more about Satine at Satinephoenix.com.

FAQ Cat Rambo

Cat Rambo lives, writes, and teaches somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Their 250+ fiction publications include stories in Asimov’s, Clarkesworld Magazine, and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. In 2020 they won the Nebula Award for fantasy novelette Carpe Glitter. They are a former two-term President of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). Their most recent works are space opera You Sexy Thing (Tor Macmillan, November, 2021), as well as an anthology, The Reinvented Heart (Arc Manor, February, 2022), co-edited with Jennifer Brozek. John Barth described Cat Rambo’s writings as “works of urban mythopoeia” — their stories take place in a universe where chickens aid the lovelorn, Death is just another face on the train, and Bigfoot gives interviews to the media on a daily basis. They have worked as a programmer-writer for Microsoft and a Tarot card reader, professions which, they claim, both involve a certain combination of technical knowledge and willingness to go with the flow. In 2005 they attended the Clarion West Writers’ Workshop. Among the places in which their 200+ published short stories have appeared are ASIMOV’S, WEIRD TALES, CLARKESWORLD, and STRANGE HORIZONS, and their work has consistently garnered mentions and appearances in year’s best of anthologies. Their collection, EYES LIKE SKY AND COAL AND MOONLIGHT was an Endeavour Award finalist in 2010 and followed their collaboration with Jeff VanderMeer, THE SURGEON’S TALE AND OTHER STORIES. Their most recent collection is NEITHER HERE NOR THERE, which follows NEAR + FAR, containing Nebula-nominated “Five Ways to Fall in Love on Planet Porcelain”. Their most recent book is Nebula Award-winning CARPE GLITTER, from Portland-based Meerkat Press. They have edited anthologies, including political SF anthology IF THIS GOES ON, as well as the online award-winning, critically-acclaimed Fantasy Magazine. Their work with Fantasy Magazine earned her a nomination for a World Fantasy Award in 2012. Cat runs the decade-old online writing school, the Rambo Academy for Wayward Writers, a highly successful series of online classes featuring some of the best fantasy and science fiction writers in the business. Cat has also taught for Bellevue College, Johns Hopkins, Towson State University, Clarion West, the King County Library System, Blizzard, the Pacific Northwest Writers Association, Cascade Writers, and countless convention Cat’s Events workshops. Although no longer actively involved with the game, Cat is one of the minds behind Armageddon MUD, the oldest roleplay-intensive MUD (an interactive text-based game) on the Internet, which has been described as “like no other mud I have played before“, “the most entertaining game I’ve ever played“, “the most creative, emotionally involved mud on the Net” and “a place of astonishing beauty and detail“. The library contains roughly 1,000 games! Play games from the library or bring your own and enjoy a quality play experience with mats provided by Game Toppers. Want to meet new people or try something different? Look for orange cones on tables. There are always players looking to expand their group!

Game Library FAQ

FREE WITH YOUR BADGE!

What games are available in the library? You can view the current CABS Library listing at cabsgamers.org How do I get access to the Game Library? The Game Library is now included with your badge! There is no extra cost to check out games or use the tables. Can anyone check out a game? Attendees with a valid Origins Badge & valid photo ID (Government issued) can check out a game. You can check out one game per ID at a time. Only the ID Holder can check out/check in the game. Does the game I check out have to stay in the Board Room? Yes. The games are meant to be checked out for you to play during your time in the Board Room. Once you are done playing the game, bring it back to the desk and check out another one if you like. Any games not returned by the time the library closes down at midnight, will result in the attendee’s ID being kept overnight and not available for pick up until the next morning. Will there be game giveaways? Yes, depending on the sponsorship support for the Board Room. If there will be game giveaways, it will be announced on this page and in the Board Room Facebook group before/during the show as details become available. What is Buckeye Game Festivals? I thought CABS ran the Board Room? BGF currently runs the Origins Board Room as well as the local gaming convention Buckeye Game Fest. Buckeye Game Festivals grew from CABS. They are the original convention committee that worked on behalf of CABS for previous years in the Board Room (Now the Origins Game Library). They have partnered with CABS to bring you a great experience in the Game Library.

Contest Rules

You must have purchased an entry into Origins Game Fair / GDEX 2022 in order to enter and present on stage for the Costume Contest. The Costume Contest is a family-oriented event. Please keep all costumes to a “PG-13” rating. (i.e no nudity or overly revealing attire, no excessive gore, etc.) No bought costumes. Costume must be 50% dcrafted or more. You may purchase parts of a costume but said parts must be disclosed during the judging process. If you are modeling a costume you did not make yourself, the maker of the costume must be present with you upon entry. If the costume wins an award, the award is given to the maker of the costume, not the model wearing it. All weapons and props must conform with Origins Game Fair 2019 rules, convention center policies, and local laws concerning carrying a weapon. If there is a question or doubt, don’t bring it (see Show Policies). If your costume is meant to represent a character from a specific IP, please provide reference images of the character. We cannot guarantee the judges will know what your character looks like, so having something to compare to will help you as much as them. Please provide a physical image to be attached to your registration form. No digital images or books can be submitted for your reference image. Each costume must be entered separately. The costumes may be presented on stage (and prejudged) as a pair or group, but each costume is judged individually as a unique entry. The contest will be limited to 50 entries total. Please be in the Short North Ballroom early if you wish to guarantee entry in this year’s contest. Origins Game Fair and Wasabi Anime reserve the right to modify, update, or amend rules at any time.
