waterpark, resort or other location where the game is installed to try it again and again, each time enjoying a meaningful experience which both satisfies them and stimulates them to explore it more in depth. Aesthetics today means design, shapes and detailed theming. Playability today means fun, interactivity, action, socialisation and sharing. Acquapark from Calcinato (Brescia) are only all too aware of this, as when designing and then building their waterslides, spray parks and water playgrounds, these aspects are focused on to the same extent as the engineering requirements. The Galeone Magico installed at Jesolo International Club Camping at the beginning of summer is proof of this. The existing children’s pool has become a hub for fun and an iconic element at the campsite, thanks to this majestic water attraction, 23m long and 11m high, which reproduces a 3-mast galleon in the style of the ‘Serenissima Repubblica’ of Venice (the province where the campsite is situated). The galvanised stainless steel supporting structure is covered on the outside in fiberglass, specially processed and painted to create the effect of a hull made from wooden beams, when seen from a distance. There is also a figurehead on the bow, a hold, cannons, ropes, hoisted sails, banners and everything else needed to make the reproduction seem perfectly real. However, the ship is also a multifaceted water game that demands action and active participation: from the hull, 3 mini slides and a 2-lane multi-lane slide run down into the pool, while hoisted on the main mast is a tipping barrel that empties water at regular intervals onto the heads of those who are passing by below. Children and teenagers can also play with the ship’s rudder, pretending to be pirates, with the magical hold that is ready to be discovered and with many cannons

Questo è verissimo e non si può che essere d’accordo; accanto a queste caratteristiche, però, ce ne sono almeno altre due non meno decisive e coinvolgono più direttamente i sensi di chi andrà a utilizzare il prodotto. Parliamo dell’estetica e della giocabilità che quando ben sviluppate creano tra utente e attrazione un feeling ‘a pelle’ magico; un desiderio nell’ospite dell’acquapark, del resort o di qualsiasi altra location dove sia montato il gioco di provarlo e riprovarlo, vivendolo ogni volta come un’esperienza significativa, che lo appaga e allo stesso tempo lo stimola a esplorarla più a fondo. Estetica oggi vuol dire design, forme e tematizzazioni non banali. Giocabilità oggi vuol dire divertimento, interattività, movimento, socializzazione e condivisione. Lo sanno bene all’Acquapark di Calcinato (Brescia), dove nel progettare e poi costruire scivoli, spray park e playground acquatici questi aspetti vengono esaltati tanto quanto quelli più strettamente ingegneristici. Il Galeone Magico che a inizio estate hanno installato allo Jesolo International Club Camping lo dimostra. La preesistente piscina bambini è diventata il fulcro del divertimento e un elemento iconico del campeggio grazie a questo maestoso gioco d’acqua, lungo 23m e alto 11m, che riproduce un galeone a tre alberi in stile Serenissima Repubblica (il rimando a Venezia non è casuale, essendo Jesolo in provincia di Venezia). La struttura portante in acciaio inox galvanizzato è rivestita esternamente in vetroresina, lavorata e dipinta ad hoc per creare a distanza l’effetto di uno scafo in fasci di legno. Non mancano una polena sulla prua, una stiva, cannoni, cime, vele issate, stendardi e tutto quanto serve a dare assoluto realismo alla riproduzione. La nave non nasconde però la sua natura di gioco acquatico multiforme che chiama all’azione e alla partecipazione attiva, anzi: dallo scafo si allungano verso la piscina tre miniscivoli e un multipista a due corsie, mentre issata sull’albero maestro c’è una botticella che a intervalli regolari si ribalta e svuota la sua acqua sulla testa di chi le sta passando sotto. The Arlecchino Slide, installed at the Riovalli waterpark, on the Verona side of Lake Garda, is also, albeit in a different way to the Galeone, rich in terms of aesthetics and playability. Here it is the bright colours combined with fantasy of the more than 60 sections making up the slide that represent the aesthetics of the attraction, together with its 120m course, full of twists and turns that create exciting changes of direction for those who ride it, and an impressive sight for onlookers. The harlequin theme is completed by an exclusive hat-shaped entrance element, designed by Acquapark using a numerical control work centre and then built in fiberglass and decorated with a coloured diamond pattern, the characteristic of the Venetian mask it is named after. The diamond pattern is also used in the final section of the slide, where it reaches the pool. What about the playability of Arlecchino Slide? This exploits the unpredictability of the course, the possibility to ride it on 2-person rafts (thus sharing the experience directly with a friend or family member) and the alternating of open and enclosed sections, enhanced by special light effects that simulate explosions of confetti and streamers. n

Qui sono i vivaci colori accostati con fantasia delle oltre 60 sezioni di cui si compone lo scivolo ad essere la cifra estetica dell’attrazione, assieme al suo percorso di 120m, pieno di curve e giravolte che creano eccitanti cambi di direzione per chi lo percorre e un colpo d’occhio straordinario in chi lo guarda. La tematizzazione arlecchina è completata da un esclusivo elemento di ingresso sagomato a forma di cappello, disegnato dal centro di lavoro a controllo numerico di Acquapark e quindi costruito in vetroresina e decorato con rombi colorati, caratteristici della maschera veneziana. Il motivo a losanghe viene ripreso anche nel tratto terminale dello scivolo, dove il percorso arriva in piscina. E la giocabilità di Arlecchino? Quella sta nell’imprevedibilità del percorso, nella possibilità di farlo anche su ciambelloni doppi (condividendo così in diretta l’esperienza con un amico o familiare) e nell’alternarsi di sezioni aperte e sezioni chiuse, arricchite queste ultime da speciali effetti di luce che simulano il lancio di coriandoli e stelle filanti.

Their imposing appearance and the very thin tail, with a sharp and venomous tip (humans rest assured, only used to defend themselves) make them fascinating and unforgettable sea creatures for those lucky enough to see them up close. Majestic, visually impressive and highly attractive are also characteristics found in Stingray, the new waterslide that Turkish manufacturer Polin Waterparks has dedicated to this marine species and that is unique in terms of its design configuration, engineering, and ride path. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation, this 4-lane, 8-passenger, high-capacity raft tube slide has much to offer in a compact design. The experience for guests begins in the start towers with one-of-a-kind roof structures that not only provide shade but also a cooling mist. From here, passengers enter one of the 4 enclosed slides, whose multiple interweaving ride paths exit into 2 mega bowls before guests race to the end. The bowls contain 2 unique paths in each – one that is larger in diameter, longer and faster, and one that is smaller in diameter and shorter. PASSARE INOSSERVATO? IMPOSSIBILE!

Con il loro corpo piatto romboidale e le pinne allungate ed espanse, quando nuotano le pastinache comuni (dette anche trigoni) sembrano volare. L’aspetto imponente e la sottilissima coda con la punta seghettata e velenifera (tranquilli però, con l’uomo la usano solo se infastidite come arma di difesa) le rendono creature di grande fascino, indimenticabili per chi ha la fortuna di vederle da vicino in mare. Maestosità, forte impatto visivo e potere di attrazione sono caratteristiche che si ritrovano anche in Stingray, il nuovo scivolo per collocazioni tanto outdoor quanto indoor che la turca Polin Waterparks ha voluto dedicare a questo pesce e che è originalissimo in termini di design, progettazione ingegneristica e percorso. In un ingombro contenuto, Stingray presenta ben quattro canali e un’elevata capacità essendo percorso su gommoni a due posti. L’esperienza comincia nelle torrette di partenza dotate di originali coperture, le quali oltre a riparare dal sole rinfrescano i rider diffondendo nell’aria acqua nebulizzata. Dalle torrette si entra nei quattro scivoli chiusi. I loro percorsi sinuosi, che qua e là si intrecciano, sfociano in due grandi elementi a imbuto da cui si arriva a fine percorso. La particolarità di questi imbuti è che ciascuno ha al suo interno due percorsi: uno più lungo e veloce che corre sul versante più esterno e uno invece più corto dal diametro ridotto. A seconda dello scivolo scelto e del peso delle due per-

sone sedute nello stesso gommone, l’esperienza cambia per cui ogni giro su Stingray non è mai uguale al precedente. A rendere attraente Stingray ci sono, oltre ai percorsi multipli, anche la vivace tematizzazione della vetroresina e i colori. Lo scivolo è realizzato utilizzando la tecnica VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding, ovvero stampaggio a trasferimento di resina con vuoto assistito), una variazione dell’RTM, tecnologia quest’ultima che Polin nel 2007 è stata uno dei primi produttori del settore acquatico a introdurre. Il nuovo procedimento (presentato da Polin anche con il nome UTexture) rende possibile ciò che pareva impossibile, trasformando gli scivoli in vere opere d’arte con infinite possibilità di design non solo sorprendenti e assolutamente perfette, ma capaci anche di mantenere le loro qualità nel tempo, e resistere ai raggi UV e alle sostanze chimiche con cui viene trattata l’acqua dei parchi acquatici. Questo significa anche che lo scivolo può essere progettato su misura con temi diversi rispetto a quello della pastinaca per adattarsi maggiormente al filo conduttore di ciascun parco. Per finire, Stingray è arricchito anche da suoni ed effetti di luce all’interno degli imbuti: i primi riproducono il suono che fanno ‘le ali’ della pastinaca mentre questa si muove in acqua come volasse, i secondi ricreano invece l’oscurità misteriosa degli oceani.

multiple lanes, sometimes slightly rolling, which run straight down into the pool below, or single enclosed waterslides, side by side, with exciting layouts and full of fast turns. Canadian manufacturer WhiteWater has now designed a third type of racing slide, called Parallel Pursuit: slides with open or enclosed tubes (also combined with each other) equipped with a very low separating wall so that riders can see each other and hear each other both on the straight sections and on the bends. “From start tub to run-out lane, Parallel Pursuit has been designed for pure racing fun. Being able to see your friend as you race around a bend and hear their laughter echo in the slide is a unique experience for any ride,” says Paul Chutter, WhiteWater President and CCO. Along with a differentiated flume profile, enclosed racing sections feature a translucent stripe down the side which bathes riders in a warm glow of light and enhances the atmosphere of the slide. The very first installation of a Parallel Pursuit waterslide (in mat version) is at the Nocatee Spray Park in Florida. Twin Falls (that’s the name of the new attraction) is a diversified ride experience as Parallel Pursuit’s open and enclosed racing sections are combined with separate tubes, allowing for surprise lane switching that helps to up the excitement. “It’s an intense facefirst ride that our residents love,” says Lee Hovis, operations manager of the park. Opened in June 2021, the waterslide has already “changed the whole dimension of the park,” according to Hovis. “The number of people using the facilities has increased,” he revealed. “It’s put us on a whole new level.” n

Poter vedere il proprio amico sfidante mentre si fa una curva e sentirne l’eco delle risate dentro lo scivolo è un’esperienza unica per qualsiasi attrazione” dice Paul Chutter, presidente e direttore commerciale di WhiteWater. Le sezioni a canale chiuso di Parallel Pursuit hanno inoltre una banda semitrasparente su un lato che inonda i rider di un caldo bagliore di luce arricchendo l’atmosfera.
