stimados amigos: Es un placer para mi presentar nuestro club náutico dentro de la revista “MAR DE IBIZA”. Es mi deseo y el de la Junta Directiva de este club, el que todas las personas que nos visitan, sean socios, clientes, amigos o vecinos disfruten de su estancia en el club Náutico, de nuestras costas y playas y de los deportes náuticos. El Club Náutic de Sant Antoni emprende una nueva singladura con la renovación de la concesión administrativa y la remodelación de las instalaciones. Quiero agradecer personalmente a todos los socios el interés y la confianza que han depositado en esta Junta Directiva para llevar adelante este ilusionante proyecto. Muchos son los retos que nos quedan por conseguir, pero entre todos estoy seguro que conseguiremos los objetivos que nos hemos marcado, principalmente dotar a Sant Antoni de unas instalaciones náuticas acorde a sus necesidades y aprovechar estas para potenciar el deporte náutico entre los jóvenes de la isla, al mismo tiempo que sirva de promoción y atractivo para el turismo náutico-deportivo, sector prominente dentro de la economía Pitiusa. Quiero agradecer el apoyo que nos prestan las Instituciones y empresas colaboradores en el fomento del deporte náutico, así como a todas aquellas personas que en un momento u otro han prestado su ayuda y colaboración a esta entidad.

ear friends: It’s a great pleasure for me to present our Club within the “MAR DE IBIZA” magazine. The Board of Directors and I share a wish: that everybody who visits us, be they members, clients, friends or locals, enjoys their time at the Club Nàutic, as well as our beaches and coastline and aquatic sports. The Club Nàutic de Sant Antoni is embarking upon a new voyage with the renewal of the administrative concession and the refurbishment of our facilities. I’d like to thank all members personally for the interest and trust they have placed in the Board of Directors to carry out this exciting project. Many challenges remain, but together I’m sure we will meet the objectives we have set, mainly to equip Sant Antoni with marine facilities in keeping with its needs and to promote water-based sports amongst Ibiza’s younger generation, whilst also fostering nautical/sports tourism, a mainstay of the economy of Ibiza and Formentera. I’d also like to thank the support given by public institutions and partner companies for the promotion of aquatic sports, as well as everyone who at some time or another has assisted or collaborated with our Club. Las nuevas instalaciones
Una remodelaci n
integral > El Club Náutic de Sant Antoni pretende seguir con la misma filosofía A finales del año 2007 el Consejo de Administración del Ente Público responsable de la gestión portuaria en Baleares, Ports de les Illes Balears autoriza la ejecución de la remodelación de las instalaciones en base al proyecto elaborado por el Ingeniero de Puertos Canales y Caminos Don Juan Antonio Saá Sánchez, experimentado proyectista y director de numerosos puertos y obras marítimas a lo largo del litoral español. La obra marítima corre a cargo de la empresa mardeIbiza8
“Marinas Canarias”, empresa especializada en este tipo de construcciones. Las nuevas instalaciones del Club comprenden 578 amarres en diez pantalanes para embarcaciones con esloras comprendidas entre los 6 y los 30 metros. La estructura fija de los pantalanes se ha realizado con la técnica de pivotes in situ, lo que facilita el paso del agua y la corriente por debajo de la estructura. Sobre estos pivotes se apoyan los encepados que soportarán finalmente el peso
de los módulos de pantalán. Estos módulos tienen una anchura de tres metros y están construidos en aluminio y madera, excepto en el paseo central y en los amarres de las grandes esloras donde los módulos son de hormigón. Todos los puntos de amarre tienen servicio de agua y energía eléctrica. Al final del paseo central se instalará una gasolinera con servicio de gasolina y gasóleo que podrá suministrar hasta cuatro embarcaciones al mismo tiempo, así mismo los amarres del pan-
talán C (grandes esloras) tendrán suministro de gasoil en el propio punto de amarre. Las edificaciones comprenden una Sede social, un edificio de capitanía y tres edificios de servicios, uno anexo a la Sede donde se ubicará la escuela de vela, servicios, lavandería , almacenes de marinería, etc... y dos en la parte de poniente del puerto a fin de dar servicio a los pantalanes ubicados cerca de la estación marítima. El edificio de capitanía albergará servicios de duchas, oficina de bienvenida y oficina de la gasolinera, mientras que en la sede social, se distribuye en una cafetería, un restaurante, un salón social y las oficinas de gestión del club. En la explanada anexa a la sede social se instalará la escuela de vela, y temporalmente, el servicio de varada, estiba y mantenimiento de embarcaciones con una grúa capaz de izar embarcaciones hasta 12 Tn., también se cuenta con una rampa de varada por donde se podrán deslizar embarcaciones de hasta 9 metros de eslora. En cuestiones medioambientales, se ha procurado dotar a las instalaciones de una estructura ágil y funcional para la recogida de los residuos de las embarcaciones tanto en mar como en tierra. Así, se instalará maquinaría para la recogida de aguas de sentinas y aguas sucias para las embarcaciones, reco-

gida de residuos de la explanada de varadero con decantadores y separador de hidrocarburos, recogida controlada de los residuos tóxicos como baterías, fluorescentes o aceite de motores, vigilancia de vertidos en la dársena, y un largo etc. de sistemas y normas para conseguir que el agua de la bahía siga conservando sus propiedades de calidad y transparencia.
En el aspecto de las nuevas tecnologías y con el propósito de ofrecer mejoras en el servicio y en la seguridad, se instalará una Wi-Fi que abarcará la totalidad de la instalación, control de accesos a los pantalanes, videovigilancia, tarjeta de club, reservas on-line, Intranet, etc... En cuanto a los servicios a navegantes, no podemos olvidar que el club náutic de Sant

Antoni está integrado en la Villa de Portmany, por lo que en un radio de 500 metros alrededor del club, encontrarán cualquier servicio que pudieran necesitar: bancos, taxi, tienda náutica, alquiler de coches, supermercados, farmacia, asistencia sanitaria, ocio, etc...., y si necesitan algo que no encuentren, no duden en consultarnos. Finalmente comentar, que aunque se estén mejorando de forma importante las instalaciones, el club náutic de Sant Antoni pretende seguir con la misma filosofía que siempre nos ha caracterizado: un trato atento, familiar, donde sabemos que nuestra labor es ofrecer a nuestros socios y clientes todas las facilidades para que disfruten de nuestra bahía, de su afición por el mar, del pueblo de Sant Antoni y de la estancia en nuestro club.

A total revamp > Club Náutico de San Antonio determined to continue with same philosophy as ever At the end of 2007, the public body responsible for port management in the Balearic Islands (Ports de les Illes Balears) approved the renovation project for the CNSA facilities drawn up by the civil engineer, Juan Antonio Saá Sánchez, a highly-experienced project designer and manager of marine works carried out at ports all along the Spanish coastline. ‘Marinas mardeIbiza10

allows water and currents to flow under the structure. Pile caps are installed on top of the piles and will eventually support the weight of the pontoon modules. These modules measure three metres across and are constructed from aluminium and wood, except for the central walkway and the larger berths which are concrete. All berths have water supply and electricity. At the end of the central walkway, a fuel station will be built to supply petrol and diesel to up mardeIbiza12
four boats at the same time. Berths on pontoon C (large yachts) will have fuel supply on the berthing pontoon itself. Buildings will include a central office, a harbourmaster’s building and three auxiliary buildings, one next to the office which will house the sailing school, services, laundry, storage areas etc., and two to the west of the port offering services to the berths located near the port. The harbourmaster’s building will contain
showers, a reception office and an office of the fuel station, whereas the central office building will house a coffee shop, a restaurant, social room and the club’s management offices. The jetty next to the central office will be the site of the sailing school and, temporarily, the dry dock, rack and boat maintenance services with a 12-tonne travel lift, as well as a dry ramp for boats up to 9 metres in length. In keeping with environmental requirements, the facilities have
been fitted with a highly-efficient structure to collect waste from boats. There will also be bilge water pumps, waste collection from the dry dock jetty with hydrocarbon filters, deposit points for toxic waste such as batteries, fluorescent lights or oil, control of possible waste spill within the port, and a long list of systems and regulations to ensure the bay retains its crystalline waters. As for technological advances to provide improved service and security,
Wi-Fi will be available across the entire facilities, pontoon access will be electronically restricted, CCTV will be installed, and users will benefit from a member’s card, online reservations, Intranet, etc. Services for club visitors are aplenty, as within 500 metres the Portmany neighbourhood answers your every need: banks, taxis, chandlers, car hire, supermarkets, pharmacy, healthcare, leisure activities, and so on. If you’re unable to find something
you need, please don’t hesitate to ask us. What remains to say is that, although a major revamp of the facilities is underway, the Club Náutico de San Antonio is determined to continue with the same philosophy as ever: a friendly, welcoming atmosphere fully aware of our duty to provide our members and visitors with everything you need to enjoy our bay, your love of the sea, the town of Sant Antoni and your stay at our club. 13mardeIbiza

“De una vez por todas debería redactarse el Plan Director del Puerto”.
Sant Antoni se adapta a todos los tipos de turismo ¿Cómo ha cambiado Sant Antoni en los últimos años? “La localidad se encuentra en una evolución constante a la que en los últimos años hemos dado un mayor impulso gracias a las oportunidades de inversión de la pasada legislatura que nos permitieron remodelar casi todo el casco histórico del municipio. El resultado arroja una mejor oferta comercial y una mayor calidad de servicios”. ¿En qué consiste el proyecto global de remodelación del casco urbano? “La remodelación de las calles no sólo significa una mejora para el entramado comercial y su promoción sino que permite humanizar la localidad al permitir el acceso libre a los peatones. Se trata de una realidad que estamos adaptando de manera progresiva, ya que a fecha de hoy hay calles por las que, en horas comerciales, se puede circular y cargar o descargar mercancías”. ¿Cuáles son los principales aspectos del municipio que quieren promocionar? “El principal distintivo promocional de nuestro municipio es la diversidad. Aunque siempre nos hemos caracterizado, como el resto de la isla, mardeIbiza14
como destino de sol y playa y de música y ocio nocturno, hay muchas otras cosas de las que se puede disfrutar, perfectamente compatibles”. ¿Qué cambios quieren lograr en la imagen del municipio como lugar de ocio nocturno de calidad? “Aceptamos que nuestro municipio tiene un especial atractivo como lugar de ocio nocturno de calidad, pero como se deduce de mi respuesta anterior, rechazamos que esto sea lo único que hay en Sant Antoni. Lo que pretendemos es dar a conocer esta diversidad de que antes hablaba y consolidar Sant Antoni como un destino en que pueda disfrutar de sus vacaciones cualquier visitante, jóvenes o familias, sean cuales sean sus aficiones, sus preferencias con un elevado nivel de calidad”. Aparte de a este ocio nocturno, a qué otros segmentos turísticos se les está sacando partido en estos momentos? “Junto al segmento que elige nuestro municipio por el ocio nocturno y por el sol y la playa, al que más partido se le saca en la actualidad es al deportivo, sobre todo náutico, pero también de otras modalidades especialmente en las
puntas de la temporada. No es como se ha generalizado ya el slogan “Sant Antoni, destino turístico deportivo”. ¿Qué han significado otras obras, como son las viarias, para Sant Antoni? “El tiempo ha confirmado que las carreteras impulsadas en la pasada legislatura eran precisas y que estábamos obligados a huir de conceptos viarios bucólicos para adaptarnos a la realidad. La gente tiene que estar cómoda y tener una correcta movilidad para que podamos competir con otros destinos turísticos”. ¿En qué punto se encuentra el proyecto del Edificio Portuario? “Puertos pretende incrementar en una planta el actual edificio con el que cuenta en la Bahía. Nosotros ya de por sí consideramos que éste se encuentra en un enclave que no es el adecuado ya que ocupa, incluso, parte de la acera. Como ocurre en aquellos casos en los que las competencias para ejecutar obras pertenecen a un organismo ajeno al municipal las pretensiones de Puertos no se adecuan a las del Ayuntamiento, y por ende, a lo que opinan los ciudadanos. El proyecto que nos han presentado, y en el que no han contado con nuestra opinión, no nos gusta y por ello hemos elevado otras alternativas, como que éste se adhiera al existente en el Club Náutico o que se traslade a los locales de los que dispone Balearia. Estamos negociando una alternativa a este edificio que en nuestra opinión no sólo no debe incrementarse, sino que debería reducirse o erradicarse. Se decida lo que se decida, el proyecto que finalmente se ejecute debería contar con el consenso del Ayuntamiento. La solución sería que de una vez por todas se redactase y pusiese en marcha el Plan Director con el fin de que se pueda proteger y poner en estado de revista de forma real la Bahía”. ¿Qué resultados está obteniendo la Estación Náutica de Sant Antoni? “La Estación Náutica está dando aún los primeros pasos que consisten sobre todo en la coordinación y vertebración del producto náutico, en sentido amplio porque en realidad incluye todo tipo de actividades y servicios complementarios, incluida la restauración y el alojamiento. Se trata sobre todo de consolidar el turismo náutico activo, pero complementando con todo lo que lo rodea. No se puede hablar aún de resultados, pero si de que estos primeros pasos son muy positivos”. Y en cuanto al número de amarres
existente en la Bahía, ¿considera que es suficiente, o cree que debería de incrementarse? “Debería incrementar su número pero no a costa de perjudicar el entorno de la Bahía. Esta acción tampoco puede ejecutarse como pretende Puertos de Baleares, es decir a costa de cargarse la playa, poner en peligro la seguridad de las personas y atentar contra el medio ambiente. Si se construyese una nueva plataforma detrás del dique, o un nuevo dique incluso, podría aumentar el número de amarres y acoger el atraque de cruceros. Esta acción se auto sufragaría y no precisaría de una inversión pública. Además sería más ecológica ya que se efectuará en la parte más profunda de la Bahía”. ¿Por qué recomendaría a nuestros lectores recalar en Sant Antoni? ¿Por qué no habrían de hacerlo?, es decir, no sólo les ofrecemos todos los servicios que pueden precisar sino que, además, la localidad se adapta a todos los tipos de turismo que busquen nuestros visitantes”.

“Sant Antoni embraces all types of tourism” How has Sant Antoni changed in the last few years? “The town is undergoing constant development, which was boosted in recent years by the investment opportunities granted by the previous government allowing us to revamp almost all the old quarter. This has resulted in better shopping facilities and a higher quality of services”. What does the redevelopment project of the old quarter of Sant Antoni involve? “The redevelopment of the streets doesn’t just mean an improvement for the retail sector and its promotion, but also it humanises the town by opening up pedestrian access. We’re working on this progressively, as today there are still streets which - during retail hours -
are open to cars or delivery vehicles”. What are the strong points of the town you want to promote? “The signature promotional feature of Sant Antoni is diversity. Even though we’ve always
portrayed ourselves - just like the rest of Ibiza - as a beach and nightlife destination, there’s a wealth of other options to enjoy in Sant Antoni which are perfectly compatible”. What changes would you like to see in the town’s image as a quality nightlife destination for the tourist market? “We totally understand that our town has a special attraction as a quality nightlife destination, but as I hinted before, we beg to differ that it’s the only thing on offer in Sant Antoni. Our aim is to promote that diversity I mentioned and consolidate Sant Antoni as a high-quality resort any visitor whatsoever can enjoy, be they young people or families, whatever their likes or preferences are”. Apart from nightlife, what other tourism segments are being exploited in Sant Antoni? “Alongside the nightlife and beach segments, without a doubt, sports tourism is the segment being exploited most at the moment, in particular nautical activities, but also other sports especially at the start and end of the season. Not that the slogan “Sant Antoni, sporting destination” can be generally applied, though”. How have other developments, such as roadworks, benefited Sant Antoni? “Time has shown that the roadworks carried out by the previous government were more than necessary and that the backwater road connections we suffered were way past their sell-by date. People have to be comfortable and able to move around with ease so we can compete with other tourist destinations”. What’s the current situation of the Port Authority Building project?
“The island port authority wants to add one storey to its building in the bay. We just don’t believe it is in the correct location as it stands and even encroaches onto the pavement. As often happens when a construction project is not the responsibility of a municipal entity, the port authority’s plans aren’t in line with the Council’s nor local public opinion. The project they presented, and which doesn’t take our opinion into account, isn’t to our liking and that’s why we have raised other alternatives, such as extending the current port building at the Club Náutico or moving to the Balearia premises. We’re negotiating an alternative to the building in question, which in our opinion should be reduced or even demolished, let alone be extended. The solution would be to draw up and set in motion the port masterplan once and for all so it can protect and spruce up the bay”. What results is the Estación Náutica de Sant Antoni bringing in as a tourist product? “The Estación Náutica is still taking its first steps which consist in the coordination and cohesion of the product on offer, in a wide sense because it actually features a whole range of activities and complementary services, including bars/restaurants and accommodation. The main idea is to consolidate nautical tourism in keeping with the immediate surroundings. Results still can’t really be analysed, but the first steps have been extremely positive”. As for the number of berths in the bay, do you think there are enough or should more be provided? “More berths should be provided but not at the expense of the bay environment. Neither should this follow the port authority’s plans, which would wreak havoc on the beach, jeopardise people’s safety and threaten the environment. If a new jetty were built behind the breakwater, or even a brand new breakwater, the number of berths could be increased and cruise ships could also dock there. This would be self-funded and require no public investment at all. What’s more it’d be more environmentallyfriendly as it would take place in the deepest part of the bay”. Why would you recommend our readers to stop off at Sant Antoni? Why wouldn’t they? Not only do we offer them all the services they may possibly need, but also the town embraces all the types of tourism our visitors come in search for”. 15mardeIbiza

Visto desde el mar,
Ibiza es otro mundo Asumir que Ibiza es una isla, y que por lo tanto está rodeada por el mar, obliga a las instituciones a no dar la espalda a su medio más destacable y a trabajar por una correcta promoción y gestión del turismo náutico. Pepa Marí, consellera de esta cartera en el Consell Insular de Ibiza, considera que la asignatura pendiente de su ejecutivo es potenciar las actividades deportivas que “en un momento dado naufragaron por la falta de apoyo de los turoperadores y por una caída en las contrataciones”. Recoger el mensaje vigente en una botella donde se aborda, precisamente este recurso “como uno de los más importantes del sector”, es el testigo de Marí para quien el turismo náutico es “mucho más que un valor añadido en Ibiza”. La consellera avanza, además, estar trabajando en un un nuevo proyecto de creación de productos turísticos en esta línea “en perfecta armonía con el sector”. Trabajar con todas las administraciones implicadas, velar por un entorno privilegiado, y una perfecta armonía entre el Consell y las Estaciones Naúticas son
para la consellera los ingredientes de una receta perfeccionada y que augura agradará a todos los paladares. ¿Cómo definiría al sector náutico en la isla? Lo definiría como un sector en auge con varias partes diferenciadas y distintos desarrollos. En cuanto al alquiler de barcos en los puertos
deportivos, y a pesar de la actual coyuntura económica mundial, se trata de un sector que va bien, en una época muy determinada. “El nuevo puerto de Ibiza significará un cambio radical” “Estamos haciendo un espectacular esfuerzo en promoción para dar a conocer la celebración de distintos eventos deportivos” co y que precisan mayores apoyos. ¿Qué queda por hacer para su impulso? Tenemos que velar por la calidad de este producto e intentar crear estructuras para la promoción del deporte náutico. En este marco es muy importante que no haya problemas para la sosteniblidad de la costa, por lo que en el mismo contexto debemos velar por una correcta gestión del litoral y de su riqueza medioambiental para que, precisamente continúe exhibiendo sus atractivos turísticos. ¿En qué ha avanzado la isla en este ámbito? Hemos trabajado con el sector náutico para darlo a conocer en todo el ámbito nacional e internacional mediante su promoción y desarrollo aunque hay graves problemas económicos que nos impiden, en ocasiones, sacarle más jugo. En el ámbito medioambiental hemos avanzado mucho para estudiar y regular las normativas de las zonas costeras e intentar ponernos todos de acuerdo en la implantación de unos correctos criterios de sostenibilidad acordes a la explotación y comercialización de toda esta estructura. ¿Cómo se están promocionando los deportes náuticos en Ibiza? La Fundación para la Promoción Turística y los responsables de las estructuras náuticas de la isla estamos haciendo un espectacular esfuerzo en promoción para dar a conocer la celebración de distintos eventos deportivos de manera conjunta para aprovechar todos los recursos que hay. En este línea se ha convocado otras citas tales como concursos de fotografía submarina o de apnea. mardeIbiza18
¿Qué posibilidades hay en este sector? !Infinitas! Tenemos una estructura muy grande por nuestra propia condición de isla y estar rodeados de mar. Tenemos la poseidonia, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad, y que es la responsable de ese color tan especial de nuestras aguas, sumado a que es la de mayor espacio del mundo. Además tenemos el mayor número de días aptos para el buceo que cualquier otro rincón del mundo. Otro hecho diferenciador es el tamaño del canal que une Eivissa y Formentera ideal para la navegación y que es uno de los más concurridos. Las calas ofrecen por su parte un importante abrigo a los navegantes y nuestra costa en sí vista desde el mar exhibe una isla distinta que se convierte en otro mundo. Ibiza, es por lo tanto, un lujo para cualquier turista, por eso es un atractivo muy fuerte que se ha de poder utilizar para la promoción y atraer así a un mayor número de turistas. Además no podemos vivir de espadas al mar. ¿Cuáles son los principales reclamos náuticos de cara al turismo? Trabajamos con ahínco y con fotografías y vídeos, ya que una imagen más de mil palabras, y, en nuestro caso, éstas son impresionantes. Pero no sólo exhibimos esta realidad cuando salimos fuera de la isla, para dar a conocer nuestros atractivos en las ferias internacionales o de otra índole, sino que también organizamos viajes e invitamos a los principales turoperadores y agentes de viajes a conocer in situ esos atractivos y que sean ellos quienes juzguen por sí mismos. Por ello, en connivencia con las estaciones náuticas, intentamos fidelizar a nuestros visitantes mediante el disfrute de todas las posibilidades de la isla. Otro reclamo es la red de redes; Internet. Mediante nuestra web www.ibiza.travel/.es damos a conocer todas las posibilidades de Ibiza en una página donde incluso los colores están mimetizados con el mar, nuestro medio, y tienen un efecto inhibidor y fresco. Además apoyamos en todo lo que está en nuestra mano aquellos eventos deportivos que se celebran en la isla como “La Ruta de la Sal”. ¿Cuál es su oferta actual? Múltiple, tal y como lo hemos descrito antes. Eso sí esta oferta ha de enmarcarse en una etapa de transición en la que estamos viviendo grandes cambios con el incremento de amarres en puertos como el de Sant Antoni, los cambios de gestores como los de Ibiza
Nueva, o las obras de mejora y acceso a otras estaciones. A estos hechos se suma la reforma del puerto de Ibiza. Por lo que podríamos decir que, para estar atravesando un momento de transición en el sector en el que las instalaciones están sobreutilizadas, tenemos que buscar optimizar nuestros recursos para no atentar contra nuestro entorno al ser este un valor natural que tenemos que garantizar. La línea en la que trabajamos nos obliga a impulsar la construcción de nuevas rampas, o adecuar el acceso a los atraques y salidas, como se está haciendo en Cala de Bou. ¿Qué significará el nuevo puerto? Un cambio radical. El puerto de Ibiza en estos momentos no es el más adecuado ya que contempla muchos problemas, causa por la que esperamos que, con las nuevas obras, se organice de una forma más sensata y ordenada. La finalidad de este proyecto es que estas instalaciones sean más atractivas y estén a mayor disposición de la gente para su disfrute. Que esté, en esencia, en mejores condiciones. Además esperamos que se mejoren sus instalaciones para el atraque de cruceros y buques de línea, un hecho que servirá para cubrir demandas históricas por parte de las empresas consignatarias y turísticas.

sing sporting activities that “at a certain moment ran aground due to lack of support from tour operators and a drop in hiring”. Picking up the current message in a bottle where it lands, in other words, this resource, which is “one of the most important for the sector”, is Marí’s baton, as for her nautical tourism is “much more than a value added on Ibiza”. The councilwoman also stated that she is working on a new project to create tourist
products with an approach that is “in perfect harmony with the sector”. Working with all the departments involved, looking after a privileged environment and keeping perfect harmony between the Council and the water sports resorts are the councilwoman’s ingredients for a perfect recipe and one that she believes will appeal to all palates. How would you define the nautical sector on the island? I would define it as a booming sector with various distinct parts and different developments. As far as boat rentals in the sports ports are concerned, in spite of the current world economic situation, this is a sector
that is going well, at a very special time. Another specific sector that must be given support is water sports, such as skiing, sailing and kayaking, because they are promoted by very small companies that have other specific problems and need greater support. What remains to be done to support them? We must take care of the quality of this product and try to create structures for promoting water sports. Within this framework, it is very important not to have any problems with the sustainability of the coast, so that in this same context we must make sure that we correctly manage the coast and its environmental riches so that it continues to show off its attractions for tourists. How has the island improved in this area? We have worked with the nautical sector to make it known at the national and international level by promoting and developing it, although there are serious economic problems that prevent us from taking full advantage of it at times. In the environmental field, we have advanced a great deal in studying and standardizing the regulations for the coastal areas and trying to all be in agreement on implementing the correct criteria for sustainability that fit the utilization and commercialization of this whole structure. How are water sports being promoted in Ibiza? The Foundation for the Promotion of Tourism and the managers of the nautical organizations on the island are making a spectacular promotional effort to get together and tell people about the different sporting events that are being held in order to take advantage of all the resources that exist. In this way, various events have been organized, such as underwater photography and free diving competitions. What possibilities does the island have in this sector? Infinite possibilities! We have a very large structure because we are an island and we are surrounded by the sea. We have Poseidonia, which has been declared a Heritage of Humanity and is responsible for the very special colour of our water, added to which, it is the greatest area in the world. We also have the greatest number of days that are suitable for diving of any place in the world. Another differentiating factor is 19mardeIbiza
the size of the channel that links Eivissa and Formentera. It is ideal for yachting and is already one of the most popular. For their part, the bays offer valuable shelter to sailors and our coast itself, when viewed from the sea, shows a different island that becomes another world. Ibiza is therefore a luxury for any tourist. That’s why it has a very strong attraction that must be used for promoting it and for attracting a greater number of tourists. Also, we cannot live with our backs to the sea. What are the main nautical inducements used for tourism? We work with passion and with photographs and videos, since a picture is worth a thousand words and, in our case, they are impressive. But we do not only show this reality when we leave the island to make our attractions known at international fairs or other kinds of events, we also organize trips and invite the main tour operators and travel agents to come and get to know these attractions in situ and judge them for them-

selves. To do this, with the help of the water sports resorts, we try to get visitor loyalty by their enjoying all the possibilities of the island. Another inducement is the network of networks, the Internet. Through our web site, www.ibiza.travel/en, we tell people about all the possibilities of Ibiza on a web site where even the colours mimic those of the sea, our resource, and have a soothing, fresh effect. We also support sporting events that are held on the island, such as the “La Ruta de la Sal� regatta, with everything that is in our power. What do you currently offer? Many things, as we have described above What we have on offer must definitely be seen as part of this transitional stage that we are living through. There are great changes, like the increased number of moorings in ports like Sant Antoni, the change in managers, like those in Ibiza Nueva, and the work to improve other resorts and provide access to them. Added to this, there is the renovation of the port of Ibiza. So, we could say
that we are passing through a moment of transition in the sector when the facilities are being overused and we must seek to optimize our resources in order not to threaten our environment, since this is a natural value that we must guarantee. The approach that we are following obliges us to encourage the construction of new slipways or to improve access to moorings and outlets, as is being done in Cala de Bou. What will the new port mean for the island? A radical change. At the moment, the port of Ibiza is not the most suitable as it has many problems, which is the reason for our hoping that, with the new work, it can be organized in a more sensible and orderly fashion. The aim of this project is for these facilities to be more attractive and to be more available for people to enjoy. Essentially, there will be better conditions. We also hope that the facilities for mooring cruise ships and liners will be improved, a fact that will serve to deal with the longstanding demands from shipping and tourist companies.

Nuestro objetivo en los puertos es mejorar la gesti n y ofrecer buenos servicios a los usuarios El conseller de Medi Ambient, Miquel Àngel Grimalt, como presidente de la empresa pública Ports de les Illes Balears, ha hecho una apuesta decidida y firme en la mejora de las instalaciones de los puertos que son competencia de la Comunitat Autònoma. En esta entrevista, explica sus líneas de actuación con respecto a la gestión de los puertos autonómicos. ¿Que importancia tienen los puertos para la vida económica y social de Baleares? “Su importancia, a lo largo de Historia, ha sido fundamental para la población de las Islas. En primer lugar, como única vía que tenían las persones para salir al exterior y después para atender las crecientes necesidades comerciales. Ya en la Edad Media, el comercio de nues-
tros puertos era muy destacado y significativo. Tampoco podemos olvidar la importancia de la actividad pesquera que continua teniendo la práctica totalidad de sus bases en los puertos de la comunidad autónoma y la trascendencia actual del turismo náutico en nuestra Comunidad”. ¿Qué función desempeña la empresa
pública Ports de les Illes Balears? “Hemos de vigilar y gestionar los servicios y las infraestructuras de los puertos de la Comunitat Autónoma. Desde el inicio de esta legislatura, la gestión de Ports corresponde a la Conselleria de Medi Ambient, con Manuel Patiño como vicepresidente ejecutivo. gestión portuaria mediante la aplicación de criterios empresariales y ofrecer buenos servicios a los usuarios. Todo ello con criterios conservacionistas y de respeto al entorno natural, en este caso marino, no sólo por parte de la Administración, sino también de los mismos usuarios. De esta manera, todos contribuiremos a mejorar el patrimonio marino. No podemos olvidar que los puertos de gestión directa de la Conselleria de Medi Ambient registraron el año pasado casi un millón de pasajeros, de los cuales un 38 por ciento corresponden a pasaje de cabotaje i el resto a usuarios de golondrinas. Así mismo a los puertos de gestión directa de la Conselleria llegaron, en 2008, un total de 1,6 toneladas de pescado con un valor de primera venta superior a los 11 millones de euros”. ¿Qué política seguirá Ports de les Illes Balears con el número actual de amarres? “La Conselleria de Medi Ambient, a través de la empresa pública Ports de les Illes Balears, ha podido atender las necesidades de una mayor oferta de plazas de amarre en los puertos de gestión autonómica con la creación de nuevas y mejores instalaciones portuarias, de calidad, modernas, sostenibles e integradas en el entorno. Esta mayor oferta de plazas se ha conseguido a través de dos vías principales: la creación directa de nuevos mardeIbiza22
puntos de amarre y la reordenación de las ya existentes con la regulación adecuada de las listas de espera, una asignatura pendiente que ya hemos empezado a resolver en numerosos puertos. Todo ello sin proyectos impactantes ni grandes obras de infraestructura”. ¿Cómo se pueden conseguir más amarres sin obras impactantes? “El sistema adoptado para mejorar la oferta de amarres ha estado marcado por la voluntad de protección del entorno natural, no permitiendo la creación de nuevos puertos ni grandes ampliaciones. En definitiva, lo que se ha hecho es favorecer la mejora y optimización del espejo de agua ya existente en nuestros puertos, apostando por un crecimiento sostenible. Paralelamente al incremento de la oferta de amarres, se ha trabajado en la mejora de las dotaciones de servicios, principalmente en lo que respecta a medidas de seguridad, equipamientos antiincendios y remodelaciones de instalaciones obsoletas. Se han instalado nuevos pantalanes flotantes para los usuarios de temporada”. ¿De cuántos amarres estamos hablando? “Desde el inicio de la actual legislatura, el crecimiento de la oferta de amarres ha sido de un total de 942 nuevas plazas, de las cuales 574 corresponden a puertos de gestión directa de la Conselleria -362 en Mallorca,
146 en Menorca y 66 en Eivissa- y 368 en los puertos de gestión indirecta -53 en Mallorca, 105 en Menorca y 210 en Eivissa-. El 90 por ciento de todos estos amarres son flotantes y desmontables”. ¿Qué objetivo se consigue con los pantalanes flotantes y desmontables? “El objetivo de estas actuaciones es atender y dar una respuesta eficaz a las mayores demandas de amarres durante la temporada alta y reducir la practica de fondeos ilegales de embarcaciones en nuestras costas. De esta manera, además, se protege la Posidonia oceánica de nuestro fondos marinos y se ofrece más seguridad a los usuarios”. ¿Qué pasará con las concesiones actuales? “Continuaremos las revisiones de las concesiones con el doble objetivo de incrementar los ingresos por canon y conseguir unas inversiones importantes destinadas a la mejora de las instalaciones por parte de los clubes náuticos”. ¿La Conselleria de Medi Ambient creó la Direcció General de la Mar. Por qué? “Porque no podemos olvidar que somos unas islas y el hecho de estar rodeadas de mar ha condicionado y condiciona totalmente nuestra vida, sobretodo por lo que respecta al transporte y, especialmente durante las últimas décadas, a la economía turística que hemos desarrollado. Precisamente por el turismo, hemos de mantener el mar en buenas condiciones. Paralelamente, la misma actividad turística ha generado una intensa actividad relacionada con el mar, como es el caso del buceo. Hay que regular todo esto desde la propia Comunitat Autònoma”. ¿Además de la regulación, que otras actuaciones están previstas en relación al mar? “También hemos de dar a conocer nuestro patrimonio marítimo y hacer llegar a residentes y visitantes la importancia y riqueza de nuestra historia marítima y los fuertes vínculos que siempre hemos mantenido con el mar. De aquí surgen la potenciación del Aula de la Mar y la idea de crear el Museu de la Mar, una asignatura pendiente de nuestra tierra desde hace demasiado tiempo. Otra actuación prevista, en línea con lo dicho anteriormente, es la creación y dotación de una Oficina de Buceo para ordenar, controlar y potenciar la práctica del buceo deportivo y el conocimiento de los fondos marinos”.

Autonomous Community. In this interview, he explains his lines of action for managing the autonomous community ports. What importance do the ports have for the economic and social life of the Balearic Islands? “Throughout history, their importance has been essential to the people of the islands. In the first place, they were the only way that people had to go abroad and then to meet the growing commercial needs. In the Middle Ages, the commerce in our ports was already very considerable and significant. We cannot forget either the importance of fishing, which has continued to be based almost entirely in the autonomous community ports, and the current significance of nautical tourism for our Community.” What is the purpose of the public company Ports de les Illes Balears? “We have to monitor and manage the services and infrastructure of the Autonomous Community ports. From the beginning of this legislature, the management of the Ports
company corresponds to the Council for the Environment. Therefore, our objectives are to improve the port management by applying entrepreneurial criteria and offering users good services. And to do this with conservationist criteria that respect the natural environment -- in this case, the marine environment -- not only on the part of the administration but also the users themselves. In this way, we will all contribute to improving our marine heritage. We cannot forget that last year the ports managed directly by the Council for the Environment had almost 1 million passengers, of whom 38% were passengers on coastal shipping and the rest on excursion boats. Also, in 2008, a total of 1.6 tons of fish with a primary sales value of more than 11 million euros came to the ports directly managed by the Council.” What policy will Ports de les Illes Balears have for the current number of moorings? “Through the public company Ports de les Illes Balears, the Council for the Environment has been able to meet the need for a greater num-

ber of places to moor in the ports managed by the Community by creating new and improved port facilities that have quality, are modern and sustainable and blend in with the environment. The increased number of moorings has been achieved mainly in two ways: the direct creation of new moorings and the reorganization of those that already existed, along with the proper regulation of waiting lists, a subject that was pending that we have already started to resolve in many ports. All this was done without projects that cause a great impact or enormous work on the infrastructure.” How can there be more moorings without work that causes a great impact? “The system that we have adopted for improving the moorings available has been characterized by a desire to protect the natural environment and not to permit the creation of new ports or great expansion. In fact, what has been done is to encourage the improvement and optimization of the surface area of water already available in the ports and making a commitment to sustainable development. In parallel with increasing the number of moorings available, we have worked on improving the services provided, mainly safety measures, fire fighting equipment and remodelling mardeIbiza24
obsolete facilities. New floating pontoons have been installed for seasonal users.” How many moorings are we talking about? “Since the start of this legislature, the number of moorings available has increased by a total of 942 new places, of which 574 correspond to ports directly managed by the council - 362 on Majorca, 146 on Menorca and 66 on Ibiza - and 368 in ports that are indirectly managed - 53 in Majorca, 105 in Menorca and 210 on Ibiza. 90% of all these moorings are floating and can be disassembled.” What is the aim of the floating, removable pontoons? “The aim of these actions is to meet and provide an effective response to the increased demand for moorings during the high season and to reduce the practice of boats mooring illegally on our coasts. This also protects the Poseidonia on our sea beds and offers users more safety.” What will happen to the current concessions? “We will continue to review the concessions, with the twin objectives of increasing income from fees and making significant investments in improving yacht club facilities.” The Council for the Environment created
the General Directorate for the Sea. Why? “Because we cannot forget that we are islands and the fact that we are surrounded by the sea has determined and continues to determine our lives completely, above all with regard to transport and, especially during the last few decades, the tourist economy that we have developed. It is precisely because of tourism that we must keep the sea in good condition. In parallel, this same tourist activity has generated intense activity related to the sea, such as diving. All this must be regulated by the Autonomous Community.” As well as regulations, what other actions are envisaged in relation to the sea? “We must also publicize our maritime heritage and inform residents and visitors of the importance and the wealth of our maritime history and the strong links that we have always had with the sea. Out of this came the development of the Aula de la Mar (Sea Classroom) and the idea of creating the Museum of the Sea, a topic that has been pending in our area for too long. Another intended action, in line with what has been said before, is to create and equip a Diving Office to organize, control and foster the practice of sports diving and the knowledge of the seabed.”

Estas obras de remodelación dieron comienzo en marzo de 2.008 y según las previsiones que se barajan, la parte marítima finalizará durante el presente año mientras que las nuevas edificaciones estarán terminadas a finales del año 2.010.

fidelidad a una misma filosof a > Las obras de remodelación dieron comienzo en marzo de 2008 El Club Nàutic de Sant Antoni se fundó el 31 de marzo de 1973. Un grupo de amigos amantes del mar y de las actividades náuticas se reunieron en el local social de la Deportiva Portmany sita en la c/ de Barcelona nº 8 de Sant Antoni. Los hermanos Vicente y José Roselló Prats fueron los convocantes de este primer acto que reunió a 140 personas que fueron considerados los socios fundadores de la entidad. La única candidatura para formar la junta gestora fue aceptada por aclamación y estaba presidida por José Roselló Prats, primer presidente del Club. Destacar la anécdota que los números de socios se sortearon entre todos los presentes, excepto el nº 1 que fue entregado a Don Francisco Verdera Ribas, propietario por aquel entonces del Diario de Ibiza. Acababa de nacer una sociedad deportiva sin patrimonio, sin instalaciones, sin local social siquiera, pero con unos objetivos muy precisos: dotar a la Villa de Portmany de unas instalaciones para el amarre de embarcaciones deportivas y el fomento de las actividades náutico-deportivas en la Bahía de Portmany. La primera transformación del puerto de Sant Antoni se produjo con la construcción del mardeIbiza26
dique de abrigo a finales de los años cincuenta, para proteger este puerto de los temporales de tramontana, mestral y ponent. Al abrigo de este dique, a finales de 1.973 se inician la construcción de los dos primeros pantalanes del Club y una caseta desmontable que hacía las funciones de oficinas y sede de las reuniones de la Junta Directiva, posteriormente se construyeron el resto de pantalanes. En 1984 se produce el relevo en la presidencia de la entidad y pasa a presidirla Bartolomé Juan Cardona que en 1988 la cede a José Tur Torres, actual presidente y que en aquellos momentos era ya secretario en la Junta de Bartolomé Juan. En 1991 se construye la Sede Social, lo que significó un paso muy importante para el club ya que por fin se disponía de un punto de reunión para los socios y amigos del náutico. La filosofía y objetivos del Club no han cambiando desde sus orígenes: mejorar las instalaciones y trabajar para inculcar a los jóvenes y mayores la pasión por el mar. A finales del año 2.006, y después de un largo periodo de tramitación, se renueva la concesión administrativa para 30 años más. Así mismo un año después el Gobierno Balear autoriza la remodelación y ampliación de las instalaciones.
> Refurbishment works began in March 2008 The Club Nàutic de Sant Antoni was founded on 31st March 1973. A group of friends, passionate about the sea and sailing, met at the Deportiva Portmany social centre at c/ de Barcelona nº 8 in Sant Antoni. The event was attended by 140 people, invited by the brothers Vicente and José Roselló Prats who were considered the founding partners of the Club. The sole candidature to form the management board was accepted by voice vote and was led by José Roselló Prats, the first Chairman of the Club. An interesting anecdote is that the membership numbers were drawn by lots, except for number one, which was granted to the then owner of the Diario de Ibiza newspaper, Francisco Verdera Ribas. A new sporting society had been born, without assets, without facilities, even without an official office, but with a very specific mission: to endow the village of Portmany with facilities to berth sailing boats and to foster nautical and sporting activities in the Bay. The first transformation of Sant Antoni port came about at the end of the 1950s with the construction of the main breakwater to protect the port from tramontana, mistral and poniente storms. At the end of 1973, construction began of the Club’s first two pontoons on the breakwater

and a makeshift hut which would become the offices and meeting rooms. The remaining pontoons were built at a later date. In 1984, Bartolomé Juan Cardona took over as Chairman, a post he handed over in 1988 to the then secretary José Tur Torres, Chairman to this present day. In 1991, the central offices were built - a major milestone for the Club as finally there was a meeting point for members. The Club’s philosophy and aims remain the same as at the outset: to improve facilities and to work to instil passion for the sea into young and old alike. Towards the end of 2006, and after rather lengthy bureaucratic procedures, the administrative concession was renewed for a further 30 years. And just one year later, the Balearic Government approved the refurbishment and extension of the Club’s facilities. These works began in March 2008 and latest forecasts suggest the maritime part will finish this year, whereas the new buildings will be up-and-running at the end of 2010.
La cena anual de socios, un Øxito La cena anual de socios del nàutic Sant Antoni se ha convertido en una cita señalada en la Villa de Portmany. El Club invita a los socios y amigos a participar en una velada que cada año resulta más entrañable, este año se celebró en las magníficas instalaciones del Hotel Blaupark donde nos deleitaron con una sabrosa y encantadora cena, para posteriormente, ofrecer una actuación musical en el bar donde poder continuar la velada. En este evento se aprovecha la ocasión para hacer un reconocimiento a las empresas que apoyan y patrocinan las actividades culturales y náutico-deportivas del club. En este año 2.009 las empresas distinguidas fueron: “Centros Comerciales La Sirena”, Pep Ferreras “Tropicana”, “Café del Mar”, “Marinas Canarias” y el nuevo esponsor de la Semana del Mar: “La Caixa”. También se hizo una mención especial a Julio “Frit” y a Paul Devaux por su labor en la recuperación de la vela tradicional dentro del proyecto del Club “Classics”.
Annual members dinner a success The annual Club Nàutic Sant Antoni members dinner has become a highlight of the social calendar in Portmany. The Club this year invited members and friends to a soiree at the magnificent Hotel Blaupark, where we were treated to an exquisite dinner, followed by a concert in the bar to keep the night going. Special mention was given at the event to the companies that support and sponsor the Club’s cultural, nautical and sporting activities. In 2009 these companies have been “Centros Comerciales La Sirena”, Pep Ferreras “Tropicana”, “Café del Mar”, “Marinas Canarias” and the new sponsor of the Semana del Mar, “La Caixa”. Thanks were also given to Julio “Frit” and Paul Devaux for their commitment to recovering traditional sailing within the Club’s “Classics” project.

Entrevista al Comodoro del Club
“Nuestro objetivo es volver a acercar a las personas al mar”.
Los clubes nÆuticos han de ser las puertas al mar > “En las nuevas instalaciones tendremos por fin una zona dedicada exclusivamente a la actividad deportiva” Javier Planas Ramia, nacido en Ibiza (1.957), arquitecto de profesión, y como el se denomina “un apasionado del mar” es el actual Comodoro del Club, cargo que ostenta desde 1.993 cuando José Tur Torres accedió a la Presidencia de la Entidad. ¿Qué le impulsó a entrar en la Junta Directiva y asumir el cargo de Comodoro? “Hacía tiempo que Pep “Çires” (José Tur) me hablaba sobre sus inquietudes e ideas acerca del club, que una vez finalizada la construcción de la sede social el siguiente paso era trabajar en potenciar la actividad náutica deportiva y que pensaba en mi para llevar adelante esta labor. La verdad es que no me mardeIbiza30
costó mucho decidirme ya que coincidía con la totalidad de sus planteamientos, además dentro de la candidatura contaba con personas muy unidas al mundo del deporte náutico como Rafael Tur “Rafalet”. ¿Cuál es su concepto o filosofía de un Club Náutico? “Nuestra idea principal es que los clubes náuticos han de ser las puertas al mar para todos los habitantes y visitantes de la isla. Antiguamente se vivía de cara al mar, incluso era un “modus vivendi” para muchos de los habitantes de Ibiza, pero en los últimos años a raíz de la eclosión del turismo esto ha cambiado. Nuestro objetivo es volver a acercar a las personas al mar, empezando
por los más pequeños y llegando hasta los mayores, además intentamos inculcar valores medioambientales para la conservación del mar y su entorno”. ¿Es importante para Vd. el lograr éxitos y triunfos en las competiciones? “Como he comentado anteriormente nuestro principal objetivo es iniciar a los niños y adultos en los deportes náuticos, sin condicionar ello a los títulos que se logren, si bien tengo que decir que me siento muy orgulloso de nuestros deportistas y del trabajo que están realizando los técnicos ya que además de cumplir con el primer objetivo están consiguiendo éxitos deportivos que nos asombran a todos”. El Club actualmente se halla en un proceso de remodelación, ¿Qué mejoras se realizarán en la escuela? “El gran problema que siempre ha tenido este club es la falta de espacio en tierra, la actividad de los proyectos náutico-deportivos no escapa a esta situación. En las nuevas instalaciones tendremos por fin una zona dedicada exclusivamente a la actividad deportiva, un aula de enseñanza mayor, una pérgola donde se almacenarán las embarcaciones ligeras, una explanada y un mejor acceso al mar. Sé que sigue sin ser suficiente para lo que nos gustaría pero son las posibilidades que existen actualmente; en un futuro si se puede trasladar el varadero a una nueva zona podríamos ampliar la instalación de la escuela”. ¿Qué destacaría de la estructura y funcionamiento de las secciones deportivas del club? “En primer lugar un personal técnico muy cualificado y que está muy involucrado en las actividades que se realizan. Luego un equipamiento razonable de embarcaciones del club (tanto deportivas como de salvamento) para el desarrollo de las actividades; cuando finalicemos las obras unas instalaciones dignas para su funcionamiento, y finalmente no me quiero olvidar de unos compañeros de Junta Directiva que siempre han apoyado los proyectos náutico-deportivos que les hemos presentado”. ¿Cuál es su balance después de tantos años en el club? “La verdad que para mi, personalmente, es un balance altamente positivo. Se ha realizado mucho trabajo, se le han dedicado muchas horas, existe una gran responsabilidad porque se trabaja con niños, pero cuando tienes un
equipo que te apoya, unos profesionales involucrados y ves la cantidad de niños que pasan por el club cada año y los resultados deportivos obtenidos, no me queda más que sentirme alentado a seguir trabajando en esta labor”.

“Sailing clubs should be gateway to the sea” > “In the new facilities, finally we’ll have an area dedicated exclusively to sporting activities” Javier Planas Ramia, born in Ibiza in 1957, architect by profession and self-proclaimed lover of the sea, has been Commodore of the Club since 1993, when José Tur Torres stepped down to become Chairman. What motivated you to join the Executive Board and take on the post of Commodore? “Pep Çires” (José Tur) had been airing his concerns and ideas to me about the club for some time, basically that once the offices had been built, the next step would be to foster sports and nautical activities, and he thought of me to carry out this task. The truth is that I didn’t take long to decide as I totally agreed with his ideas, and also I had by my side people greatly involved with the world of nautical sports such as Rafael Tur “Rafalet”. What’s the idea or philosophy of a Sailing Club? “Our main philosophy is that sailing clubs should be the gateway to the sea for all the residents of Ibiza and visitors alike. In years gone by, people lived looking towards the sea, it was even a ‘modus vivendi’ for many locals. But in recent years, with the tourism boom, all that has changed. Our aim is to bring people back to the sea, starting with the younger generation and encompassing all ages right up to the older generation. We also try to instil environmental values for the conservation

of the sea and its immediate surroundings”. Are competition victories and successes important for you? “As I mentioned earlier, our main goal lies in introducing kids and adults to nautical sports, but without tying this exclusively to the titles they may win. Obviously, I am incredibly proud of our sailors and and the work being done by coaches as, besides meeting the first objective, they are notching up successes that amaze all of us”. The Club is currently being reformed. What improvements will there be in the school? “The major problem this club has always had is the lack of onshore space, and the nautical/sports projects are no stranger to this. In the new facilities, finally we’ll have an area dedicated exclusively to sporting activities, a classroom, a dinghy storage bay, a wharf and improved access to the water. I know it’s still not as much as we’d like, but these are the possibilities available to us right now. In the future, if the dry dock can be moved to another location, the school could be extended”.
What would you say are the strong points of the structure and operation of the club’s sporting facilities? “First and foremost, the highly-qualified professionals who are also deeply involved in all the activities we carry out. What’s more, a sufficient number of boats (both for sailing and rescue) to develop our activities. Also, when the works are finished, good operating facilities and, last but not least, my colleagues on the Executive Board who have always supported the nautical/sports projects we present to them”. How would you sum up so many years in the club? “The truth is that it has been an incredibly positive experience. A lot of work has been carried out, thousands of hours have been put in, there are extremely high levels of responsibility because we work with children, but when you have a team that supports you, a group of dedicated professionals and you see the sheer number of children passing through the club every year and the successes achieved, that is the real encouragement for me to continue working with the club”. 31mardeIbiza

La Semana del Mar
Una semana para acercarse al mar > En catorce años, más de 4.000 niños han pasado por la actividad La Semana del Mar es un proyecto de educación medioambiental y de iniciación a la navegación a vela dirigido a grupos de escolares de quinto curso de todas las Pitiusas. Los objetivos de este proyecto principalmente consiste en dar a conocer a nuestros escolares nuestra costa, su enorme belleza la navegación a vela, la convivencia en un barco, el trabajar en equipo y sobretodo inculcarles valores medioambientales para que en un futuro valoren y protejan nuestra islas, nuestras costas y nuestro mar. Vivimos en islas, pero actualmente sólo una pequeña parte de los habitantes de las Pitiusas han navegado o conocen la belleza de nuestra costa desde el mar. Vivimos momentos en que la conservación de nuestro hábitat, flora, fauna, y nuestro litoral se reconocen como fundamento esencial para mardeIbiza32
nuestro futuro. La costa Oeste de Ibiza y la bahía de Portmany en concreto, son un lugar privilegiado por la belleza del litoral y por su alto valor ecológico y medioambiental. De todas esta reflexiones nació este proyecto. En 1.996 se gesta el embrión. Juan Blanco, entonces director de la escuela de vela del Club propone a la Junta Directiva el poner este sueño en marcha, a lo cual se responde con ilusión ya que encaja perfectamente con los objetivos de un Club Náutico. Un proyecto novedoso e interesante aunque con una complejidad organizativa importante. En este mismo año el equipo se pone a trabajar y se realiza la primera experiencia piloto con el colegio “Guillem de Montgrí”. Gracias al apoyo y la ayuda de los profesores Pepín Valdés y Roberto De Andrés, 62 alumnos de este colegio participaron en esta primera edición.
Pero, ¿en qué consiste una semana del mar? Comienza la aventura. El grupo elegido es un aula completa incluyendo al profesor, el nivel 5º de primaria. Debido a la gran demanda para realizar la actividad y al presupuesto disponible, únicamente son 10 los colegios que pueden participar, por lo que se prepara un concurso donde cada aula debe presentar un trabajo sobre las Pitiusas, cada año se propone un tema diferente, este año llevaba por título: “el fondo marino, luz y vida en las Pitiusas”. Una vez finalizado el difícil proceso de selección nos disponemos a zarpar. Es lunes, son las 9 de la mañana y el autobús llega al colegio, el aula de 5º curso ha conseguido una plaza para participar en la Semana del Mar. Se dirigen hacia las instalaciones del Náutic Sant

Aquarium Cap Blanc: un lugar mágico para liberar stress De camino a Cala Gració, en Sant Antoni, se sitúa la punta de es “Cap Blanc”, conocida por albergar en el interior de sus rocas un acuario natural que lleva el mismo nombre. Éste acuario es singular por estar en una cueva submarina en la que el mar penetra y permite a las distintas especies marinas disfrutar del mejor hábitat posible. La cueva fue originada por la acción del mar sobre la roca, que creó una bóveda que posteriormente se adecuó para guardar los sobrantes de marisco, en especial langostas, que los pescadores recogían del mar. A principios de los años 90, la cueva se adaptó para albergar un acuario en el que poder observar las especies marinas típicas de Ibiza. En 2004 se creó el Centro de Recuperación de Especies Marinas Cap Blanc (CREM). Esta actividad nace desde el Ayuntamiento de Sant Antoni en colaboración con el acuario con dos objetivos, el primero crear un programa de concienciación sobre los problemas del entorno marino y del que cada año participan
unas 8.000 personas, sobre todo escolares. En segundo caso, la recuperación activa de animales marinos y en especial las tortugas. El acuario tiene un quiosco-bar con una de la vistas más impresionantes y peculiares de la bahía de Sant Antoni. La tranquilidad y calma del ambiente invita a desprenderse de todo el estrés y perderse con el sonido de las olas del mar. Los fines de semana por la noche, desde junio a septiembre, se preparan las famosas sardinas del acuario.
Cap Blanc Aquarium: a magical setting to de-stress
On the way to Cala Gració beach, in Sant Antoni, you come across the “Cap Blanc” headland, well-known for the natural aquarium of the same name within its rocks. The idiosyncrasy of this aquarium is its setting in an underwater cave providing the best possible habitat for the array of marine species present. Wave action carved out a cavern which was used by fishermen to store surplus shellfish, especially lobsters, they had caught. At the start of the 1990s, the cave was adapted to house an aquarium in which typical Ibizan marine species could be observed. The CREM (Cap Blanc Marine Species Recovery Centre) was set up in 2004. A joint venture by the Sant Antoni Town Council and the aquarium itself, it has two main objectives. The first is to create an awareness programme about marine environment problems, which now sees around 8,000 people, especially schoolchildren, taking part each year. The second is the active recovery of marine animals and especially turtles. The aquarium also has a beach bar offering one of the most impressive views of Sant Antoni bay. The tranquillity and calm of the ambience lets you de-stress totally and drift off to the sound of gently-crashing waves. On weekend evenings from June to September, the famous aquarium sardines are served.

Antoni. Allí son recibidos por el equipo: Un educador ambiental del IBANAT, los monitores de vela y el jefe del equipo, Enrique Mas. Seguidamente hay reunión de grumetes, donde los niños son instruidos sobre las normas básicas de conducta a bordo de las embarcaciones y cual va a ser el programa de actividades. Se les entrega el equipo, el cuaderno de bitácora y un chaleco salvavidas que no se quitarán mientras dure la actividad. Posteriormente nos dirigimos a la embarcación, el “SADKO” una preciosa réplica de una goleta rusa de 26 metros eslora con capacidad para 40 tripulantes. Zarpamos y nos dirigimos a la Conejera, la mayor isla de las que componen los Islotes de Poniente, como se puede suponer los niños no caben en si de gozo, y mientras el equipo de monitores va instruyendo a los grumetes sobre el nombre de las velas, las direcciones de los vientos y el nombre de los islotes que se divisan, el profesor nos comenta la enorme ilusión de los niños por participar. Llegamos a la isla “Conejera” y los niños desembarcan. Allí se organizan talleres de rocas, plantas y animales. Se realiza una pequeña excursión hasta el faro, de donde se divisa la bahía de Portmany y los islotes que forman parte de la Reserva Natural. Antes de comer el educador ambiental da una pequeña charla sobre la importancia de la separación de residuos y de cómo estos degradan el medio ambiente, al finalizar la mardeIbiza34
comida se organizan los equipos para recoger los residuos y para “limpiar los platos” (incluso el profesor colabora). Por la tarde, mientras navegamos los niños van escribiendo y dibujando en su libro de bitácora sus experiencias a lo largo del día. Al atardecer nos dirigimos a un fondeo seguro, frente al club, para pasar la noche. Allí nos está esperando el astrónomo que nos enseñará a reconocer los astros más importantes del firmamento. Dormimos a bordo y a las siete los más madrugadores tocan “Diana”, después del desayuno nos dirigimos navegando hacia la playa de Cala Conta, durante la travesía, si el viento acompaña, los niños ayudan a levantar las velas de la embarcación y aprenden los nombres de las velas y partes del barco. Desembarcamos y los niños guiados por el biólogo realizan talleres de arena, los niños se dispersan por la playa recogiendo restos de plantas y animales, una vez recogidos los “tesoros”, el biólogo les explica que es cada resto que han encontrado y como ha llegado hasta allí. Después de comer levantamos anclas y nos dirigimos hacia el Club, en un momento de la travesía se oyen gritos a babor, se sucede uno de los momentos más mágicos para los niños, los delfines han aparecido. Se quedan al menos veinte minutos dando vueltas a la embarcación, hasta que nos dicen adiós. Al llegar al amarre vemos a los padres que esperan con cierto nerviosismo a sus hijos. Empezamos a desembarcar y se oye una
estridente charla, los niños contándoles a sus padres la experiencia que han vivido. Pero esto no acaba aquí, el miércoles se realiza una visita al parque natural de Ses Salines, y el jueves y viernes volvemos a las instalaciones del Club. Allí los niños harán prácticas de navegación con las embarcaciones colectivas, las “gambas”. El contramaestre les explicará los “hormetgos” de pesca que utilizaban nuestros abuelos y los que se usan actualmente. Visitaremos la cofradía de pescadores y nos explicarán su funcionamiento, nos trasladaremos en las neumáticas al acuario de Cap Blanc, donde podremos ver los peces que hemos estudiado en el cuaderno de bitácora, aprenderemos a hacer nudos marineros, visitaremos el barco de salvamento de la Cruz Roja del mar y el viernes a mediodía la actividad finalizará con una pequeña fiesta donde los niños se despiden del equipo de monitores y reciben su diploma de participación. Así llevamos ya catorce años, más de 4.000 niños han pasado por la actividad, los profesores nos animan a seguir por este camino, pero nos piden más plazas, este año catorce colegios han quedado fuera. Las escuelas de verano de iniciación a la vela están llenas de niños de la Semana del Mar, hay un aula que dedica una hora a la semana a hablar del medio marino, otra aula ha compuesto el himno de la Semana del Mar, todo ello son muestras de que estamos en el camino correcto. Al finalizar la actividad solemos pedir a los profesores nos elaboren una memoria donde nos indiquen su opinión sobre esta y que cosas se podrían mejorar, a continuación reproducimos textualmente una de estas memorias: ... “Este año mis alumnos/as y yo hemos participado de la “Semana del Mar”. Pero.., antes de esa semana, inolvidable para todos, hubieron sentimientos de preocupación, incertidumbre, miedo... tanto por parte de padres y alumnos, como por la mía. Pues a pesar de que los comentarios acerca de esta actividad han sido fantásticos, siempre te preguntabas ¿Qué tal saldrá este año? Al fín llegó el “Gran Día”, el día tan esperado y deseado por todos, sobre todo por los alumnos/as, y allí estaban ellos (bien puntuales), sonrientes y con sus mochilas al hombro, dispuestos a embarcarse en una aventura; ¡ y como no! Yo también estaba ilusionada, pero más a la expectativa y bien alerta a cualquier
inclemencia. A medida que navegábamos me fui relajando y la tensión se sumergía, ya que los monitores y la tripulación, al completo, demostraban que tenían los cabos bien atados. Además rápidamente, con su buen hacer y dedicación, se hicieron con los pasajeros y soplara el viento por donde soplara tenían la habilidad de virar y cambiar el rumbo con sus expertas manos sobre el timón. ¡ Aunque la verdad sea dicha no hubo gran temporal! Después de transmitirnos su vocación por el mar y la navegación, de compartir con ellos dos días de nuestras vidas arrojamos ancla y llegamos a buen puerto. Y aún hoy, meses después, tenemos presente esta semana y los alumnos recuerdan a la perfección las lecciones allí aprendidas. ¡Es algo sorprendente! ¿Porqué será? Por supuesto, que el Club por si solo no podría llevar a cabo esta actividad, pero contamos con la ayuda de instituciones, Govern Balear, Consell Insular d’Eivissa, Ajuntament de Sant Antoni, Ports de les Illes Balears, así como con el sostén económico de entidades privadas como “La Caixa” y otras que apoyan en el desarrollo de la actividad como Cruz Roja, Cofradía de Pescadores, Aquari de Cap Banc, etc…, y por supuesto no podemos olvidar el agradecer la ayuda a los profesores, alumnos, padres y a todos aquellos que hacen que esta actividad sea todos los años una realidad. Gracias a todos, os esperamos el año que viene.
A week to embrace the sea > In fourteen years, over 4,000 schoolchildren have taken part The ‘Semana del Mar’ is a week-long environmental education project and introduction to sailing course for groups of ten-year-old schoolchildren from across Ibiza and Formentera. The project’s main aims are to introduce the younger generation to our coastline and its outstanding beauty, to sailing, to life onboard a boat, to teamwork and, most of all, to instil them with environmental values so that in the future they value and protect our islands, coastline and sea. We are island dwellers, but only a small number of Ibiza and Formentera inhabitants have ever sailed or discovered the beauty of our coastline from the sea. Right now, the conservation of our habitat, flora, fauna and coastline is recognised as paramount for our future. The west coast of Ibiza and Portmany Bay in particular are quintessential of the stunningly beautiful coastline and are areas with high levels of environmental and ecological interest. Hence the project was born. In 1996, the seed was planted when Juan Blanco, then Director of the Club’s sailing school, suggested put forward his dream, which was warmly taken on as it fits in perfectly with the objectives of a Club Náutico. An innovative and highly-interesting project but involving somewhat complex organisation. That very year it was all hands on deck and a pilot project was launched 35mardeIbiza

with Guillem de Montgrí primary school. Thanks to the support and help of the teachers Pepín Valdés and Roberto De Andrés, 62 pupils from this school took part in the first ‘Semana del Mar’. But, what exactly is the ‘Semana del Mar’? Let the adventure begin. The chosen group is an entire class including the teacher from 5th year primary. Due to the amazing demand and the limited budget, only 10 schools can actually take part, so a competition is launched in which every class must hand in a project about the islands. Each year focusses on a different topic and this year it was “The seabed, light and life in Ibiza and Formentera”. Once the tough selection process is finished, we are ready to set sail. Monday. 9am. The coach pulls up outside the school. The 5th year have won a place to participate in the ‘Semana del Mar’. Off they head to the CNSA facilities. The team welcomes them: an environmental monitor, the sailing coaches and the team captain Enrique Mas. Next a meeting where the kids are explained basic onboard rules and are told the programmardeIbiza36
me of activities. They are also given essential equipment: a logbook and a life jacket they must keep on throughout the activities. Then we all head off to ‘Sadko’, a magnificent 26-metre replica Russian schooner with capacity for 40 crew members. We set sail and head towards La Conejera, the largest of the Poniente Islets, and as you can imagine, the kids are besides themselves with excitement. The team members explain the names of sails, wind directions and the islets on the horizon to the novices. We arrive at La Conejera and the children disembark. Then there are mini-workshops about the names of rocks, plants and animals and a trip up to the lighthouse, with an incredible view over the Portmany Bay and islets that form part of the Natural Reserve. Before lunch, an environmental monitor gives a short talk about the importance of separating waste products and how these can harm the environment. Once lunch is over, teams are organised to pick up waste and ‘wash the dishes’ (teacher also, of course!). Whilst sailing in the afternoon, the children write up and draw their experiences throughout the day in
their logbooks. The sun sets and we head to a safe anchor spot opposite the Club to spend the night onboard. On comes an astronomer to show us how to spot the most important stars in the night sky. We sleep onboard and at seven in the morning the early-risers get to sound the reveille. After breakfast, we sail towards Cala Conta beach and, during the crossing and if the wind allows so, the kids help to hoist the sails and also learn about the names of sails and parts of the boat. We reach our destination and the children learn about beach life from a biologist. Then they split up and collect animal and plant remains from the beach. Their “treasures” in hand, the biologist then explains what they have found and how it got there. After lunch, we raise anchors and sail towards the Club. Suddenly, shouts of excitement are heard from port and one of the most thrilling moments for the kids is underway: the dolphins have made an appearance. For twenty minutes they circle the boat until they bid us farewell. We arrive at berth and the mums and dads are waiting there a little apprehensively. We start
to disembark and raucous conversations take over, the kids relating their fantastic experiences to their parents. But that’s not the end. On the Wednesday, there is a trip to the Ses Salines natural park, and on the Thursday and Friday we return to the Club. There the children practice sailing on fishing boats. The boatswain explains fishing techniques used by our forefathers and those adopted today. We then pay a visit to the Fishermen’s Association where we hear about its day-to-day operations. Following that, a dinghy ride to the Cap Blanc aquarium, where the kids can see the fish they learnt about in real life, and a lesson on sailing knots. We also go aboard the Red Cross lifeboat and on Friday lunchtime we hold a small party for the children to say goodbye to the team and to receive their participation certificates. And that’s what we’ve been doing for fourteen years now. Over 4,000 children have taken part, the teachers encourage us to continue in the same direction but also ask for more places. This year fourteen schools couldn’t participate. The summer sailing schools are pac-
ked with children from the ‘Semana del Mar’, one school dedicates an hour per week to marine environment issues, another has even composed a ‘Semana del Mar’ sea shanty... all proof that we’re heading in the right direction. Once the week is over, we usually ask teachers to write a report about their opinions on the activity and how it could be improved. Here is one of these real-life testimonials: “This year my pupils and I took part in the ‘Semana del Mar’. Yet, before the week’s activities, unforgettable for all, there was a certain air of concern, uncertainty, even fear...coming from both parents and pupils, as well as from me. Even though reports about the week have always been fantastic, you end up wondering how this year will work out. Finally, the ‘Big Day’ arrived, the day so longed for by everybody, especially the kids, and there they were (on time!), smiling away and with rucksacks on their backs, ready to set out on an adventure. And not forgetting me! I was also really excited, but also apprehensive about anything that might go wrong. Once onboard, I started to relax and any tensions drifted away, as the monitors and crew showed they were true experts. In no time,
thanks to their friendliness and dedication, they won over all the passengers and, whichever way the wind was blowing, their expert hands at the helm meant we could gybe and change course with no difficulties. Having said that, the truth is there was no major choppiness at all! After transmitting their vocation for the sea and sailing and sharing two fantastic days with them, we dropped anchor back at port. And even today, months later, we still remember with fondness that week and the lessons we all learnt”. Amazing, isn’t it? But why? Of course, the Club couldn’t run an activity like this on its own, we are proud to receive support from institutions such as the Balearic Government, the Consell Insular d’Eivissa, the Sant Antoni Town Councils and Ports de les Illes Balears, financial sponsorship from private entities such as La Caixa, and the collaboration of the Red Cross, the Cap Blanc Aquarium, the Fishermen’s Association, etc. And of course, how could we forget to thank all the teachers, children, parents and all those who make this activity a reality year after year. Nuestra Vela Ligera llega consolidada
a la madurez > Durante sus 36 años hemos sido pioneros en muchas facetas y proyectos Texto: Area Esportiva CNSA En el año 1973 un grupo de amigos, hijos de socios fundadores del CNSA, se aprovecharon de una subvención de 5.000 pts. por parte de la federación Balear de vela para la compra de 10 embarcaciones Optimist. Merece la pena mencionar a algunos de aquellos regatistas que a día hoy en día continúan regateando en el CNSA como Pepe Roselló o Toni Torres (Rafal). Este grupo estaba compuesto por Vicente Roselló (hermano de Pepe), Vicente Ribas (Mestret), José Juan Marí del H.Ses Savines, mardeIbiza38
Bernat Xinxo, José Mª Roselló (H. March) y Pedro Marí. El Sr. Daniel Ribas el primer técnico del Club en iniciar a este grupo de adolescentes en el Mar y en el deporte de la Vela. En el Verano de 1.975 el club ficha como técnico estrella a Baltasar Mountaner (Tacha), para tecnificar y subir el nivel de los regatistas según nos comenta Toni Torres. Este grupo de regatistas desarrollaba su actividad en Cas Chileno, actual “Bar M” de la playa del Arenal, para posteriormente pasar al principio de esta playa, en una caseta prefabricada conde guardaban el material.
En el año 1977 el CNSA compra 4 embarcaciones SNIPE y Toni Torres (Rafal) compra una mas. Dando continuidad a la primera generación y gestándose la 2ª compuesta por Javier Torres (Rafal), Kiko Ramón, Dominique Tur, Luis Escandell, David Cardona, Miguel y Cesar Costa, Marcos Ribas “Figueretes”, Jorge Cerezo, Eugeni Palacios, Campillo , Antonia Juan, Yolanda Marí (H. Bellamar), Javi Rafal, entre otros, con Miguel Bosca Vidal como técnico (1978-79). En 1980 entra Toni Cardona Espín de la mano de Vicente Serapio, retomando el trabajo de Miguel Boscá, colaborando activamente en
fomentar el inicio de la clase Snipe en el CNSA. Del 1981 al 1984 el Sr. Vicente Planells Aranda como técnico finalizó un ciclo y una generación que apuntaba maneras. Durante este periodo la actividad más bien se intensificaba los meses de verano, aunque con la organización del Trofeo Illes Balears de optimist del año 1983 en el CNSA, que se celebraba por primera vez en la Isla de Ibiza, se empezó a realizar alguna salida de fin de semana en los meses de invierno, esto fue gracias al impulso de la junta directiva de la época y del Técnico Vicente Planells Aranda. Entre el año 1985 y 1988 hubo un pequeño paréntesis reanudándose la actividad a partir del 1989 de la Mano de Dominique Tur. El técnico de Sant Antoni imprimió un funcionamiento dinámico y continuo como Escuela de Vela durante todo el año. Se introduce el Boom del windsurf y surgen nuevos y buenos regatistas como Toni Colomar, Pau Ribas, Toni Tur Montes o Laia Torres, etapa 1990 1998. Además se acoge en el club a Assier Fernández y se colabora en su preparación para la Olimpiada de 1.992 en Barcelona, participación que se saldó con un diploma olímpico. Roberto Hortensius fue uno de los impulsores de esta generación, por su condición de directi-
vo del club y de la Fed. Balear, apoyado por Jose Ribas (Ferreras) y Pepe Rosello (coix) , también directivos del club. En el año 1996 con las vistas puestas en la ampliación, Javier Planas y Rafael Tur, directivos responsables de las secciones deportivas , fichan a Juan Blanco con el ánimo de darle un impulso a la actividad náutica del club. La etapa de Juan y Mercedes pasarán a la historia del Club por que fueron los impulsores del proyecto de educación medioambiental e iniciación a la navegación a vela la Setmana del Mar. Actividad estrella del área deportiva del club a la que hoy en día giran el resto de actividades. Enrique Mas llega al CNSA en el año 2000 para poner en marcha y ordenar la actividad deportiva del CNSA. Con la Llegada del Alicantino las secciones deportivas del club se reorganizan y se marcan nuevos objetivos, se crea el reglamento de uso y participación. La buena planificación y dirección de este técnico se traduce al poco tiempo en éxitos deportivos y un repunte importante de las actividades náuticas en la bahía. Se mantiene y reactiva La Setmana del Mar con nuevo equipo, embarcaciones y se adapta a las necesidades actuales.
Arrancan los centros de tecnificación de Vela y Piragüismo, se implanta el programa d´ensenyament de vela en edad escolar como vía de continuidad a la setmana del mar y promoción de la vela a nivel insular. Se crea el proyecto Café del Mar Sailing con la compra adquisición de una nueva embarcación crucero de Escuela y regatas el nuevo J92S. Se retoma la actividad de la vela clásica en el club. Se crea y estabiliza la sección de competición de piragüismo bajo un funcionamiento similar al de la vela ligera. Se unifican criterios y sistemas de gestión deportiva y funcionamiento en general. Algunos deportistas destacados entre el 2000 y 2009, son Adolfo Berrocal, Toni Tur, Oriol y Aina Valdés, Los Hermanos Pizzuto Mar y Joao, Carlos Ferrer, Mitchel Ribas y Medín Rodríguez. Durante sus 36 años de antigüedad la sección de vela ligera del CNSA ha sido pionera en muchas facetas y proyectos, ha sufrido vaivenes y épocas de inactividad, hasta que finalmente ha encontrado una estabilidad. Desde aquellos tiempos donde el monitor era un directivo o un amigo del club hasta la situación actual en que se cuenta con personal cualificado y profesional. Por quinto año consecutivo el CNSA es el Club de Baleares que más niños acerca al mar, así lo

demuestra el número de licencias tramitadas. Cerca de mil personas se inician o participan en las actividades de promoción que se organizan a lo largo del año, Cursos de iniciación a la navegación, el proyecto Setmana del Mar y Un Día a la Mar (bautismos de mar).
Our dinghy division comes of age > Pioneers in many aspects and projects for 36 years Back in 1973, a group of teenage friends, all sons of CNSA founding partners, used a 5,000 peseta subsidy from the Balearic Sailing Federation to buy 10 Optimist dinghies. The original group also included Vicente Roselló (Pepe’s brother), Vicente Ribas (Mestret), José Juan Marí (Hotel Ses Savines), Bernat Xinxo, José Mª Roselló (H. March) and Pedro Marí. Daniel Ribas was the Club’s first coach to introduce this group of teenagers to the sea and the world of sailing. In summer 1975, the Club took on Baltasar Mountaner (Tacha) as head coach to improve the racers’ level. The group would receive coaching in Cas Chileno, nowadays the ‘Bar M’ on Arenal beach, to then go and fetch their material from a prefab hut at the end of the beach. In 1977, the CNSA purchased four Snipe racing dinghies and Toni Torres (Rafal) bought another, so progressing the first generation and giving rise to a second one, formed by Javier Torres (Rafal), Kiko Ramón, Dominique Tur, Luis Escandell, David Cardona, Miguel and Cesar Costa, Marcos Ribas “Figueretes”, Jorge Cerezo, Eugeni Palacios, Campillo, Antonia Juan, Yolanda Marí (Hotel Bellamar), Javi Rafal, to name just a few, with Miguel Boscá Vidal as coach (1978-79). In 1980, Toni Cardona Espín joined under the wing of Vicente Serapio, taking over the post held by Miguel Boscá and actively collaborating in the beginnings of the Snipe class at the CNSA. Between 1981 and 1984, Vicente Planells Aranda was coach and boosted the skills of the already promising generation. During this period, sailing would be more concentrated in the summer months, although organising the 1983 Balearic Islands Optimist Trophy, staged for the first time in Ibiza, led to the odd weekend outing in the winter months, thanks also to the impetus given by the then Executive Board and Vicente Planells himself. Things slowed down a little between 1985 and 1988 but were soon resumed in 1989 at the hands of Dominique Tur. The Sant Antoni coach left his stamp and an all-year Sailing School was born. The windsurfing boom also took off and new sailors such as Pau Ribas, Toni Tur Montes and Laia Torres emerged. The Club also welcomed Asier Fernández and helped him train for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, with him securing sixth place overall. Roberto Hortensius was one of the driving forces behind this generation in his capacity as Director of both the CNSA and the Balearic Sailing Federation, supported by colleagues Jose Ribas (Ferreras) and Pepe Rosello (Coix).
With their sights set on extending the Club’s activities, in 1996 Javier Planas and Rafael Tur - directors of the sports departments - signed up Juan Blanco with a view to impulsing the Club’s sailing repertoire. The days of Juan and Mercedes were to enter into the Club’s annals as they launched the ‘Setmana del Mar’ weeklong activities, which combined environmental education and an introduction to sailing. Even today, this is still the focus point of all the Club’s sporting activities. Enrique Mas arrived at the CNSA in the year 2000 to set up and reorganise the Club’s sporting activities. Fresh objectives were laid down and the norms of use and participation were introduced. Enrique’s excellent management and planning skills were soon to translate into sporting successes and a resurgence of nautical activities in the bay: The ‘Setmana del Mar’ was revamped, with a new team and boats adapted to current needs. The sailing and canoeing centres took off. Sailing courses for schoolchildren were launched as a continuation of the ‘Setmana del Mar’ and to promote sailing on an island-wide scale. The Café del Mar Sailing School was created following the acquisition of a Selection 37 sailboat and J/92 S cruisers. The tradition of classical sailing at the Club was kept afloat. A competition canoeing division was established, operating in a similar way to the dinghy racing division. General operational and sports management systems were brought together as one. Star sailors between 2000 and 2009 include Adolfo Berrocal, Toni Tur, Oriol and Aina Valdés, Mar and Joao Pizzuto, Carlos Ferrer, Mitchel Ribas and Medín Rodríguez. Throughout its 36 years of life, the CNSA dinghy division has been a pioneer in many aspects and projects, and although it has gone through certain ups and downs, it is now firmly established. From years gone by when the sailing monitor was the Club director or a friend to the present-day situation of highlyqualified professionals working as a dedicated team. For the fifth year running, the CNSA is the Balearic sailing club with the highest number of children’s licences issued. Almost one thousand people take part in the activities held throughout the year: Introduction to sailing courses, the ‘Setmana del Mar’ project and ‘Un Día a la Mar’ (a one-day baptism to the nautical world).

El Proyecto Classics CNSA lleva una década en marcha
Lo clÆsico nunca muere
> Siete barcos participan en las actividades El Club Nàutic Sant Antoni mantiene la Vela tradicional a través del proyecto “Classics”. Un Total de 7 embarcaciones participan en las actividades que giran en torno a esta peculiar sección. Trobadas, exposiciones, excursiones, regatas y mucha “torrada”, son algunas de las actividades que durante esta última década el CNSA ha venido organizando con el fin de mantener viva la tradición. Los componentes de la sección son mayoritariamente personas que se han mantenido vinculadas a este entorno desde hace muchos años. Entre ellos destaca Julio Cardona, más conocido como Julio “Frit”, que puede contar las mil y una batallas acerca de sus propias experiencias y la de sus familiares a bordo del “Bohemio”, o Paul Devaux el “Rubio” que vino del norte, apasionado del mar y la vela clásica que además de participar con el “Montse” coordina e informa las actividades junto a la dirección técnica del CNSA. Vicent Curt, mestre d’aixa, es uno de los pocos artesanos del sector que continua restaurando y construyendo embarcaciones como antaño. Su obra maestra el San Jaume,
buque insignia de la sección, es todo un referente de cómo se debe mantener una embarcación de estas características. “Mi Querida lolita” de Santi García recién restaurado, el “Brillante” de José Mª Cardona, el “Pitango” de José Ignacio Ureta o el “Eos” de Alejandro Ramos completan una sección que destaca entre las otras cuando despliega sus velas en la Badía de Portmany.
Classics never die out > Seven boats take part in activities The Club Nàutic Sant Antoni keeps the tradition of classical sailing afloat with the “Classics” project. A total of seven boats are regulars at the activities organised by this distinctive group. Get-togethers, exhibitions,
outings, regattas and ‘good ol’ fun’ are some highlights of the activities the CNSA has organised throughout the last decade with a view to keeping the tradition alive. Most members of the group are seasoned sailors: Julio Cardona, better known as Julio ‘Frit’, who can reel off the amazing experiences he and his family have lived onboard ‘Bohemio’; Paul Devaux, the ‘blondie’ who came from the north, a true sealover who, besides sailing on ‘Montse’, coordinates and publicises activities along with the CNSA management. Vicent Curt, yacht carpenter, is one of the few remaining craftsmen in the sector who still constructs and restores boats just like yesteryear. His masterpiece ‘San Jaume’, flagship of the group, is a tribute to how a boat of these characteristics should be kept in shape. The recently-restored ‘Mi Querida Lolita’ belonging to Santi García, José Mª Cardona’s ‘Brillante’, ‘Pitango’ sailed by José Ignacio Ureta and ‘Eos’ belonging to Alejandro Ramos complete the group that certainly catch the eye when they hoist their sails in Portmany Bay. 41mardeIbiza

Learning is fun > Learn to sail on state-of the-art J/92 S cruisers
Divertir y enseæar > Aprender a navegar en los J92 S de última generación La Escuela de Navegación Café del Mar Sailing es un proyecto de iniciación a la navegación en crucero por etapas. Estableciendo continuidad a través de la participación en regatas, entrenamientos o excursiones programadas. El proyecto se inició en el año 2002 con la cesión del Selection 37 CARONTE, propiedad de Esteban Hontoria, gestando lo que hoy en día es un proyecto consolidado que inicia a adultos en el mundo de la vela y la náutica. En el año 2005 el proyecto se impulsó y consolidó mediante la compra del nuevo Café del Mar, J 92 S de última generación con el que el CNSA ha logrado mantener el proyecto de seguir iniciando navegantes, principal cometido del proyecto. Por otro lado y gracias a la gentileza del patrocinador el proyecto ha cosechado sus triunfos en numerosas regatas de altura y de circuito disputadas en la Isla. Este proyecto ha supuesto para el Club Nàutico la satisfacción de ver que muchos de los alumnos que se iniciaron en la escuela de vela del club continúan navegando, poseen barco en propiedad e incluso algunos siguen siendo socios del área deportiva del CNSA. Esta actividad comparte la filosofía que se aplica en todos los proyectos educativos del club: “Divertir y enseñar”, así estos cursos de iniciación terminan, cada día, con un baño viendo mardeIbiza42
la increíble puesta de sol de la bahía. El Proyecto se divide en tres fases: 1. ETAPA CURSO DE INICIACIÓN
En el curso de iniciación el alumno aprende la nomenclatura y partes de la embarcación. Navegación en todos los rumbos y direcciones. Arrancar y parar, Orzar y arribar, Virar y Trasluchar, Con Vela mayor y vela de proa (foque y Génova). 2. ETAPA CURSO
The Café del Mar Sailing School offers cruiser sailing courses at three levels, backed up by participation in races, training sessions or organised outings. The project was launched in 2002 when Esteban Hontoria donated his Selection 37 “Caronte”, giving birth to what today is a thriving project introducing adults to sailing and the nautical world. The project received a boost in 2005 with the purchase of the state-of-the-art J/92 S ‘Café del Mar’, enabling the CNSA to fulfil its mission to teach novice sailors. On another note, thanks to the kind support of our sponsor, the project has notched up victories in countless ocean sailing and competition races around Ibiza. The CNSA is proud to see many students who started out in the school continuing to sail, becoming boat-owners or even signing up to the sports division of the Club. This activity shares the philosophy of all the Club’s educational projects: “Learning is fun”, that’s why the introduction course students round off each day with a swim whilst admiring the stunning sunset of San Antonio bay. The project is divided into three levels: 1ST LEVEL: INTRODUCTION COURSE
In this course, students learn nautical terminology. Navigation in all courses and directions. Manoeuvres covered: setting sail, stopping course, luffing, reaching port, heaving, gybing, mainsail and headsail (jib and Genoa).
DE PERFECCIONAMIENTO
El curso de perfeccionamiento, con noche a bordo, prepara a los alumnos para participar en regatas. Se perfeccionan los rumbos y maniobras, manejo de velas portantes, Spi o Asimétricos e ilustraciones sobre la navegación de altura.
2ND LEVEL: ADVANCED COURSE
The advanced course, with one night aboard, prepares students to participate in races. Advanced manoeuvres and courses; handling of staysails, Spis and spinnakers; illustration of ocean sailing.
3. ETAPA PARTICIPACIÓN EN REGATAS

Sanch s, a punto para la Transat 2009 > Zarpará de la Rochelle el 12 de Septiembre con 4300 millas por delante La Transat es una de las regatas transoceánicas de más prestigio internacional en larga distancia. El hecho de cruzar en solitario el Océano Atlántico a bordo de una embarcación “transat” de 6,5 m de eslora, hace que la rega-
ta sea toda una prueba de supervivencia. La preparación, experiencia y puesta a punto de la embarcación son claves a la hora de asumir la responsabilidad de este gran reto. El CNSA ha asumido el compromiso, por segun-
do año, de apoyar a Juan Carlos Sanchis a conseguir terminar esta singladura. La edición del 2009 que zarpará de puerto Francés de la Rochelle el 12 de Septiembre con 4300 millas por delante, se afronta con mucho

Los Mini Transat son unos barcos de 6,5 metros muy marineros y capaces de aguantar el duro Atlántico.
entusiasmo e ilusión. En primer lugar se ha conseguido realizar reformas muy importantes en la embarcación gracias a las aportaciones económicas de los patrocinadores. Se ha sustituido el palo de aluminio por uno de carbono con jarcia de pbo, se han confeccionado velas nuevas y se han realizado ajustes importantes de maniobra y reformas en la cubierta de prototipo. Juan Carlos está listo para cruzar y realizar un buen papel en el Atlántico. La Fundación Gaes Solidaria a través de la Fundación Oceánica de Barcelona, ha sido uno de los últimos patrocinadores que se ha añadido al proyecto de Sanchís. Su aportación ha sido definitiva para que Sanchís pueda estar en la línea de salida de la transat. La prueba se disputa cada dos años con salida en el puerto de la Rochelle y llegada a Salvador de Bahía en dos etapas. La primera entre la mardeIbiza44
Rochelle y Puerto Funchal (Madeira) la segunda Funchal Salvador, pasando por cabo verde. Los antecedentes de Juan Carlos en la prueba se remontan al año 2003 en categoría serie, consiguiendo terminar en mitad de la flota. En el año 2005 con el nuevo prototipo tuvo que abandonar por rotura de la botavara cerca de las islas cabo verde. En el año 2007 no se participó por problemas técnicos y de presupuesto. El año 2009 se afronta con buenas expectativas confirmada y asegurada la participación. Un proyecto como este requiere mucha dedicación, organización, preparación y presupuesto, pero ante todo necesita una persona, un navegante, un lobo de mar dispuesto a aceptar el reto. Juan Carlos, todo el club te desea mucha suerte y estamos seguros que tu esfuerzo terminará con recompensa. Que los vientos te acompañen.
The Transat is one of the most internationallyrevered transatlantic races. The sheer fact of crossing the Atlantic Ocean single-handedly on board a 6.5 metre transat boat makes this race a true survival of the fittest. Pre-race preparation, experience and the boat’s technical specifications are key factors when it comes to taking on this huge challenge. The CNSA, for the second time, is supporting Juan Carlos Sanchís in his quest to complete this mammoth crossing. The 2009 edition will set sail from the French port of La Rochelle on 12th September with 4,300 miles ahead, and Juan Carlos is facing the challenge with heaps of enthusiasm and excitement. Thanks to financial contributions from the sponsors, the boat has been totally revamped: the aluminium mast has been replaced with a carbonfibre one with PBO rigging, brand new sails have been fitted, important manoeuvring adjustments have been made and the prototype deck has been refitted. Juan Carlos is now ready to let her rip and take the Atlantic by storm. The Fundación GAES Solidaria was one of the latest sponsors to sign up to Juan Carlos’ project. Their contribution has been paramount in ensuring Juan Carlos is raring to go at the Transat starting line. The race, held every two years, is between La Rochelle and Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) and consists of two legs. The first between La Rochelle and Funchal (Madeira), and the second from Funchal to Salvador via Cape Verde. Juan Carlos’ first Transat experience was in the 2003 series class, when he finished mid-placed amongst the contestants. With his new prototype in 2005 was forced to abandon the race after the boom broke near the Cape Verde Islands. He wasn’t able to compete in the 2007 edition due to technical problems and lack of funds. So, with this year’s participation fully confirmed, his hopes are high. Such a project requires a lot of dedication, organisation, preparation and funds, but above all a person, a sailor, a ‘sea dog’ willing to rise to the challenge. Juan Carlos, the entire club wishes you all the best and we’re sure your every effort will be rewarded. May the wind be always at your back...

Campeones de Baleares de Optimist, por Equipos > Se está gestando otra nueva generación de grandes regatistas El 7 de Junio el equipo de Optimist del nàutic Sant Antoni se proclamaba campeón de Baleares por segunda vez en su historia. Esta es una regata muy considerada y bonita donde los clubes se miden una vez al año para demostrar cual es el conjunto de Baleares mas equilibrado. Hasta la fecha el C.N. El Arenal era el claro dominador de esta competición, ganando en 6 de las 9 anteriores ediciones. El CNSA estará en Calpe el próximo mes de Septiembre para intentar subir a lo más alto en el Cpto.de España de Equipos de Clubes donde representaremos a nuestra Comunidad. El primer título lo se consiguió en el año 2003 en casa del anfitrión y anterior ganador el C.N.Arenal, en aquel entonces Toni Tur y Adolfo Berrocal lideraban el equipo junto a un Joven Oriol Valdés, Miquel Costa y Hortensio Mas. La
victoria fue clara y contundente. En otras ediciones se ha conseguido llegar a la final y estar siempre entre los mejores. Pero saborear la victoria en este tipo de competición es muy especial para todos. Éste resultado brillante, junto con la obtención de título de Balear por parte de Mitchel Ribas, y la excelente actuación de Medín Rodríguez a lo largo del año, están a punto de culminar una gran temporada por parte de los regatistas del CNSA. Ambos disputarán el próximo Cpto. de España del 25 al 29 del presente en Salou. El equipo campeón de Baleares está formado por Medín Rodríguez, Mitchel Ribas, Marc Torres, Raquel Alandete y Cesar Roselló junto a su técnico Enrique Mas (Kike), Todos ellos han sido los artífices de un triunfo que llena de entusiasmo e ilusión la vitrina y el cuadro de
On 7th June, the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni Optimist team was crowned Champion of the Balearic Islands for the second time in its history. This is a truly top-level regatta which sees clubs compete once a year to decide the best all-round team. Until recently, the C.N. El Arenal clearly had the upper hand in this competition, notching up 6 victories in the previous nine years. In September, the CNSA will be vying for the podium again when it represents the Balearic Islands at the Spanish Club Team Championships to be held in Calpe. Our first title was secured in 2003 at the host club and then reigning champion C.N. El Arenal, when Toni Tur and Adolfo Berrocal led a team formed by a young Oriol Valdes, Miquel Costa and Hortensio Mas, and claimed a runaway victory. In other years, we have always reached the final just to be pipped at the post. But to taste victory in this type of competition is something incredibly special for all of us. This outstanding result, along with the Balearic title won by Mitchel Ribas and the excellent performance of Medin Rodriguez throughout the year, brings a great season for all CNSA racers to a close. Both Mitchel and Medin will be competing at the Spanish Championships in Salou between 25th and 29th September. The Balearic champion team is made up by Medin Rodriguez, Mitchel Ribas, Marc Torres, Raquel Alandete and Cesar Rosselló together with coach Enrique Mas (Kike). El Clem y el Aivis , vencedores absolutos de la Ruta de la Sal 2009 > Todos coinciden: la Sal 2009 una regata difícil y con muchos alicientes deportivos El Swan 56 “CLEM” de Jaime Olazábal en la Versión Norte y el Fortuna 9 “Aivis” del Ibicenco Manuel Guasch en la Versión Este se proclamaron vencedores absolutos de la 22 Regata de Altura de La Ruta de La Sal, celebrada entre el 9 y el 11 del pasado mes de Abril con una participación que reunió a cerca de 300 embarcaciones de nueve nacionalidades. “CLEM” un diseño del argentino German Frers con puerto base en Mallorca , cruzó la línea de llegada en Sant Antoni de Portmany en tercera posición en tiempo real, invirtiendo en las 147 millas de la derrota, 1 día, 5 horas y 32 minutos de navegación. Un registro suficiente para imponerse, una vez compensados los tiempos, al GS 45 de Daniel Turro “Solete” del RCN de Barcelona que fue segundo en la general de esta Versión Norte y al Wally 88,7 “Tiketitoo” de Jesús Turro, mardeIbiza46
vencedor en tiempo real de la regata desde Barcelona y tercero en la general absoluta. El B&C 52 de Jaume Serra “Atlant del Vent”, que fue segundo en tiempo real en la Versión Norte y primer barco Ibicenco en llegar a Sant Antoni de Portmany, logro clasificarse en la cuarta plaza de la general. El armador Ibicenco Manuel Guasch, vencedor en la Versión Este, acumuló un tiempo de 1 día, 4 horas, 11 minutos y 37 segundos en recorrer las 117 millas de la singladura desde Denia, lo que permitió imponerse al Fortuna 12 “Milocha” de Francisco Martínez del RCN de Torrevieja que fue segundo en la general. Ocupando la tercera plaza del podium de esta Versión Este, el también Fortuna 9 del CN de Ibiza “Posidonia Uno” de Ramón Balanzat. El “Plis Play” de RCR de Alicante, ganador en tiempo real de la
Versión Este de La Sal 2009, logro, una vez compensados los tiempos un 13aba. Posición en la clasificación general absoluta. Importante éxito deportivo del Farr 520, “Plis Play” de Vicente García Torres que, con la victoria en tiempo real registrada en la pasada Ruta de La Sal se convierte, con cinco victorias absolutas acumuladas en los últimos años, en el equipo que en mas ocasiones ha ganado la Versión Este de esta regata en tiempo real. Un verdadero record, muy difícil de superar, potenciado por el hecho de que en la edición del 2008, “Plis Play” logro acreditar tanto el premio en tiempo real como el de tiempo compensado. Algo que ha ocurrido en muy contadas ocasiones. Jaime Olazábal armador del Swan 56 “CLEM”, vencedor absoluto de la Versión Norte de La Sal que se mostró particularmente satisfecho con el ren-
dimiento de su barco, con el ya ha participado en cinco ediciones de esta clásica de la navegación de altura, habló de las dificultades de una navegación en condiciones sorprendentemente inestables a partir de las 24:00 del día 9 de abril. “Las últimas millas fueron las peores a causa de las encalamadas.” En general, una La Ruta de La Sal, que tal y como expresó Pepe Ferrés, Presidente de ANAM y Director de la regata, ha permitido confirmar, una vez más, que nunca ha sido una regata fácil. “Este año, aunque se ha navegando con buen tiempo, la prueba ha sido muy compleja bajo aspectos técnicos y tácticos. Navegar en una zona afectada por la salida de un frente y la entrada de otro, tiene su riesgo e induce a que los pronósticos sean poco exactos. Vientos muy inestables y variables en intensidad y dirección. Encalmadas largas y costosas de cara a las clasificaciones. Para las flotas de embarcaciones de menor eslora, en los últimos tramos de la regata, chubascos y golpes de viento que llegaron a alcanzar, muy puntualmente, hasta los 35 nudos. En general unos panoramas que hablan de mucho trabajo y de lecturas tácticas poco sólidas. Lo que, al final, hace que sean las decisiones estratégicas a tiempo real las que marquen
las pautas mas efectivas.” En definitiva una Ruta de La Sal que ha convencido aportando grandes valores deportivos a un palmares cada vez mas ambicioso. El Club Náutico de Sant Antoni de Portmany, que se estrenaba como puerto final de recala de La Sal a partir de esta recién terminada edición, ha resultado ser todo un acierto. La calidad de sus instalaciones, sus servicios y la operatividad y entusiasmo de sus equipos humanos han aportado, a la base de la regata, una eficacia fuera de toda duda. Para Pep Tur, Presidente del CN de Sant Antoni, el esfuerzo ha merecido la pena y augura un gran futuro a esta relación entre Sant Antoni de Portmany y la Regata de Altura de La Ruta de

“Clem” and “Aivis”, outright winners of 2009 Ruta de la Sal > General consensus that 2009 sal was tough race but with incredible lure Jaime Olazábal’s Swan 56 “Clem” in the North Version and the Ibizan Manuel Guasch’s “Aivis” in the East Version were proclaimed the outright winners of the 22nd La Ruta de la Sal Ocean Race, held between 9th and 11th April with over 300 cruisers from nine countries racing. “Clem”, designed by the Argentinian German Frers with home port in Mallorca, crossed the finishing line in Sant Antoni de Portmany in third place in real time, crossing the 147 miles in 1 day, 5 hours and 32 minutes. A good enough time to beat off, once times were offset, Daniel Turro’s GS 45 “Solete” from RCN Barcelona into second place in the North Version and the Wally 88.7 “Tiketitoo” skippered by Jesús Turro, winner in real time in the race from Barcelona and third overall. The B&C 52 “Atlant del Vent” skippered by Jaume Serra, second in real time in the North Version and the first Ibizan boat to reach Sant Antoni de Portmany, came in fourth in the overall rankings. The Ibizan boatowner Manuel Guasch, winner of the East Version, notched up a time of 1 day, 4 hours, 11 minutes and 37 seconds to cover the 117-mile crossing from Denia, ahead of the mardeIbiza48
Fortuna 12 “Milocha” skippered by Francisco Martínez from RCN de Torrevieja, who came in as runner-up overall. Third place in the East Version went to Ramón Balanzat, on another CN de Ibiza Fortuna 9 “Posidonia Uno”. RCR Alicante-based “Plis Play”, winner in real time of the East Version of La Sal 2009, achieved an overall 3rd position once times were offset. An important sporting success for the Farr 520 “Plis Play” skippered by Vicente García Torres, which - with the real-time victory registered in La Ruta de La Sal and five overall victories in recent years - becomes the team to win the real-time East Version of this race on the most occasions. An enviable record difficult to beat and boosted by the fact that in 2008 “Plis Play” came first both in real time and offset time, a feat seldom matched. Jaime Olazábal, owner of the Swan 56 “Clem” and overall winner of the North Version of La Sal, was especially happy with his boat’s performance. The fifth time he has taken part in this classic ocean race, he won’t forget the surprisingly unstable sailing conditions after midnight on 9th April. “The last few miles were the worst due to the calm breezes”. On the whole, a Ruta de La Sal that once again confirms that this race has never been plain sailing. As Pepe Ferres, President of ANAM and Race Director, explained, “This year, though blessed with clement weather conditions, the race has been incredibly complicated due to technical and tactical aspects. Sailing in a region prone to the exit of one weather front and the arrival of another carries its risks and means that weather forecasts can be unreliable. Winds that are unpredictable and variable in strength and direction. Long calm periods end up costing valuable classifications. For the smaller boats, squalls and gusts that at times hit 35 knots. All
in all, a panorama of hard work and little reliance on tactics, which in the end makes on-thespot strategic decisions the way to fight on ahead”. In all, a challenging Ruta de la Sal that delivered major sporting values to an increasingly ambitious event. The Club Náutico de Sant Antoni de Portmany, in its début as the final port of call for La Sal race, was the perfect choice. The quality of its facilities, services and operations alongside the enthusiasm of its human team brought an undoubted efficiency to the regatta. For Pep Tur, Chairman of CN de Sant Antoni, the effort was well rewarded and he predicts a more-than-bright future for the relationship between Sant Antoni de Portmany and the La Ruta de la Sal Ocean Race. By next year, he explained, “the refurbishment works of our marina will be completed, and we’ll even have a new club HQ, so the race will benefit from a magnificent base. For our Club, La Ruta de la Sal has become a pivotal sporting goal”. La Ruta de La Sal is staged in collaboration with the Consell d’Eivissa, the Department of Tourism and Trade and the Department of Industry and Energy of the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Sant Antoni de Portmany Town Council, the Estació Náutica de Sant Antoni i Sant Josep and the Barcelona and Denia City Councils. Pesca de altura en nuestro Club El Club Pesca de Altura Ibiza - Formentera fue el organizador de la primera competición de Pesca d Altura que se disputa en San Antonio. Durante el primer fin de semana de junio del 2007 la quinta edición del Open Isla de Ibiza que siempre se había disputado en Santa Eulalia vino a nuestras aguas. La prueba contó con la participación de 23 embarcaciones de las que doce fueron de nuestra isla y el resto de Cataluña, Valencia y Mallorca, se disputó en dos jornadas, el sábado y domingo con muchas y muy buenas capturas. Esta es la primera prueba en Baleares y una de las primeras del Mediterráneo que se disputa sin la muerte de ningún pez porque las capturas en el barco después de ser medidas y fotografiadas por el juez que cada embarcación embarca son devueltas vivas al mar. A las 84 capturas logradas durante el fin de semana se les puede considerar un peso total aproximado de 2000 kg. que hoy con la competición finalizada siguen vivas en el mar, lo que pretende esta modalidad de “Captura y Suelta” que promueve la Federación Mediterránea para una Pesca Responsable que organiza el V Desafío Mediterráneo. La clasificación la encabezó el Dan-Kay con 3 puntos, seguido por los socios de nuestro club,
el Mavida I de Daniel Juan Noguera con 4 y el Favela de Juan Ribas Prats con 9 puntos. Hay que destacar la captura del Palmira I de Valencia, un atún rojo de 135 cm. (aprox. 45 kg.) que le dio el trofeo a la pieza mayor. Los tres primeros clasificados de esta prueba lograron aquí su clasificación para la Final del V Desafío Mediterráneo que se disputó el último fin de semana de septiembre en el RCN Port de Pollença con la participación de los clasificados en las 8 pruebas integradas en esta competición nacional en Murcia, Valencia, Cataluña y nuestras islas.
Deep-sea fishing at our Club The Ibiza & Formentera Deep-sea Fishing Club organised the first deep-sea fishing competition ever to be staged in San Antonio. The first weekend of June 2007 saw the fifth edition of the Ibiza Open come to our waters, a break from its previous location of Santa Eulalia. Twenty-three boats, twelve from Ibiza and the
rest from Catalunya, Valencia and Mallorca, took part in the two-day trial. Catches were abound and of an excellent standard. This is the first trial in the Balearics and one of the first in the Mediterranean without the death of any fish. Catches were measured and photographed and then thrown back into the sea alive. The 84 catches achieved throughout the weekend weighed an approximate 2,000 kg in total, all of which were still happily swimming around once the competition was over. This is in line with the “Catch and Throw” philosophy promoted by the Mediterranean Federation for Responsible Fishing, organisers of the 5th Mediterranean Challenge. First place went to Dan-Kay with 3 points, followed by CNSA members Daniel Juan Noguera on Mavida I with four points and Juan Ribas Prats on Favela with 9 points. Trophy for the largest catch went to Palmira I from Valencia with a 135-cm bluefin tuna (weighing some 45 kilos). The top three qualified for the final of the 5th Mediterranean Challenge held at the end of September at RCN Port de Pollença, which featured the qualifiers from the 8 trials of this national competition in Murcia, Catalunya, Valencia and the Balearic Islands. 49mardeIbiza

La tradici n pesquera de nuestra isla merece este esfuerzo > La Sección tramitará las licencias y permisos de pesca de sus asociados La pesca que es la actividad de ocio con más practicantes contará desde ahora con una sección organizada como tienen la vela o el piragüismo. Estos últimos años se ha despertado la necesidad de organizar esta actividad y el encargado es Rafael Costa. Su conocimiento de esta actividad, por su profesión y por su afición y su participación como vocal en la Federació Balear de Pesca i Casting lo hacen la persona idónea para coordinar la sección de pesca del Club Nàutic de Sant Antoni. ¿Qué es la pesca para el socio del Club? “La pesca es la actividad preferida de los mardeIbiza50
socios del Club y sin embargo se ha practicado de manera individual sin apoyo organizado por parte del Club, por otra parte la pesca se está reglamentando, sobre todo en lo que respecta a la conservación del entorno marino y el Club quiere participar en su promoción y aquí estoy, desde mi posición de socio y con la ayuda de todos intentaré coordinar esta sección y que muchos socios se integren en ella”. ¿Cuál es el objetivo? “Nuestro objetivo es promover la pesca desde embarcación en todas sus modalidades. La pesca de altura cuenta ya con competiciones organizadas en nuestra isla y practicantes en
nuestro Club y a partir de ahora la pesca de fondo, la del curricán, la del calamar… van a tener sus salidas sociales en las que la actividad de la pesca, que tanto nos gusta, se combinará con reuniones de compañerismo, meriendas y cenas que sirvan para “hacer club” entre los aficionados a la pesca”. ¿Qué más tienen planteado hacer? “Nuestra actividad desde la dirección del Club no va a centrarse exclusivamente en la práctica de nuestra afición. La Sección de Pesca tramitará las licencias y permisos de pesca de sus asociados, informará de la normativa, organizará conferencias y coloquios de espe-
cialistas y sobre todo velará por que sus miembros practiquen su afición de manera responsable de acuerdo con la finalidad de preservar el entorno marino”. ¿Queda ilusión? “Estoy ilusionado en la función que el Club me ha asignado porque pienso que la tradición pesquera de nuestra isla merece este esfuerzo, pero sólo será posible con la colaboración de todos, espero contar con amantes de la pesca que colaboren en llevar adelante este bonito proyecto. También quiero hacer un llamamiento al sector náutico para que contribuya económicamente a esta iniciativa. Su colaboración es muy importante, como lo es para su actividad comercial que un Club como el nuestro promueva la pesca con una sección”

“Ibiza’s fishing tradition deserves this endeavour” > Section will arrange fishing licences and permits for members Fishing, the most popular leisure activity in sheer numbers, will now have its own section just like sailing and canoeing do. The need to organise this activity has become apparent in recent years, and charge has been given to Rafael Costa. Rafael’s in-depth knowledge of the sport, gained through his love of fishing, his profession and his capacity as member of the Balearic Fishing and Casting Federation, makes him the ideal person to coordinate the fishing section of Club Nàutic de Sant Antoni. What does fishing mean to Club members? “Fishing is the number one activity amongst Club members, yet has always been done on an individual basis without organised support from the Club. What’s more, fishing is being controlled more strictly with regard to marine conservation and the Club is eager to back this. So, as a member and with the Club’s wholehearted support, I’m here to coordinate the

section and attract as many members as possible to join in”. What’s the target? “Our target is to promote boat fishing in all its means and forms. Deep-sea fishing already has competitions held in Ibiza and many aficionados in our Club. From now on, bottom fishing, trolling, jigging, etc. are going to see social events take place, combining our love of fishing with lunches and dinners to bring fishing fans together”. What else is on the cards? “We’re not going to focus only on the practice of our beloved hobby. The fishing division will arrange fishing licences and permits
for members, make current regulations known, organise talks given by experts and, above all, ensure that members fish responsibly in keeping with the goal to protect the marine environment”. Are you excited? “I’m excited about the responsibility the Club has given me because I believe Ibiza’s fishing tradition deserves this endeavour, but that’s only possible if everybody works together to lead this beautiful project forward. I’d also like to call on the nautical sector to contribute to this initiative financially. Patrimonio de la humanidad Ibiza es la capital de la isla. Se encuentra ubicada en la zona Este. Su actividad económica es de servicios, con la industria turística y el pequeño comercio, como ejes fundamentales. Acoge la sede del Consell Insular. Su puerto, ubicado en una bahía natural, es el principal acceso por mar a la ciudad y a su vez es el acceso principal, junto al aeropuerto, para toda la isla. Aiboshim, la ciudad de Bes, fue fundada por los fenicios, el año 654 antes JC. Se calcula que en el siglo V antes JC la ciudad tenía entre 4000 y 5000 habitantes. Vespasiano la convirtió en municipio romano (Municipius Flavius Ebusus) el año 70. Comenzó entonces un periodo de decadencia que se mantuvo, casi, toda la fase imperial romana hasta la llegada de los Vándalos, el año 424, y su posterior ocupación por los bizantinos y árabes. La ciudad fue conquistada el 8 de agosto de 1235 por el arzobispo de Tarragona Guillem de Montgri, el infante Pere de Portugal y el noble Nuno Sanç bajo el encargo del Rey Jaime I el Conquistador. La parte antigua de la ciudad es conocida como Dalt Vila. Fue fortificada por Felipe II. Es uno de los recintos abaluartados mejor conservados, junto con el de Cartagena de Indias y forma parte del Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde 1999.
Heritage of humanity Ibiza is the capital of the island and is in the east of the island of the same name. Its eco-
nomic activity is the service industry, with tourism and small commerce as its main pillars. Here, the Consell Insular or Island Council sits. Its port, which is in a natural bay, is the main access to the city by sea and, in turn, the city is the main access to the whole island, together with the airport. Aiboshim, the city of Bes, was founded by the Phoenicians in 654 B.C. It is estimated that in the 5th century B.C. the city had between 4,000 and 5,000 inhabitants. Vespasian made it a Roman city (Municipius Flavius Ebusus) in 70 A.D. Then came a period
of decadence that continued almost to the end of the Roman Empire until the arrival of the Vandals in 424 A.D. and later its occupation by the Byzantines and Arabs.The city was reconquered on 8th August, 1235 by the Archbishop of Tarragona, Guillem de Montgri, the Infante Pere of Portugal and the noble Nuno Sanç on the orders of King Jaime I the Conqueror. The old section of the city, which is known as Dalt Vila, was fortified by King Felipe II. Santa Eul ria des Riu Playas y rutas naturales El municipio de Santa Eulària des Riu, ofrece una gran variedad de playas, pueblos y campos encantadores, además de los mercadillos que visitan cada año miles de turistas. Beaches and Nature Routes The municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu offers a great variety of enchanting beaches, villages and countryside, as well as markets that are visited each year by thousands of tourists. We should not forget that the municipality is made up of five parishes in which modernity is balanced with tradition. In the village of Santa Eulària, there is the largest sports port on Ibiza, a water sports resort offering a wide variety of water sports and complementary activities and the Ibiza Conference Centre. At the entrance to the village is the Puig de Missa, where on top of a hill is a fortified church and a defence tower. In the village is the bed of the only river on the Balearic Islands, which, although it is almost dry, has wet areas that create a fantastic landscape. VISITS OF INTEREST

2009, it was a finalist in the biennial architecture contest. Puig de Missa: This is a walled fortress church built in the sixteenth century. Church of Sant Carles de Peralta: This church was constructed in the 18th century. Church of Jesus: A 15th century church in whose interior is an interesting, recently restored altarpiece. Santa Gertrudis: The church is in the pedestrianized centre of the village and is very typical, which has made it into a picturesque meeting place in the centre of the island. Las Dalias, on the Sant Carlos road, is famous for the street market that is held every Saturday. The Punta Arabí street market in Es Canar is held every Wednesday. It is the oldest market. NATURE ROUTES
Pou des Lleó: It seems to have received its name from the Roman legion that camped here, the Leo or lion legion. Nearby is the Campanixt tower, which is very well preserved. From here, you can see a lovely panorama of the beautiful countryside of the parish of Sant Carles. The interior of Sant Carles is an area that has distanced itself from encroaching tourism and when going along the country roads.

Suaves playas y bellos acantilados Beaches and cliffs The municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia occupies the entire southwestern corner of the island of Eivissa. Its long coastline includes many areas where spectacular cliffs drop down into magnificent coves. The landscape is one of the great attractions of the municipality, both in the interior and on the coast, as there are natural areas of great value: the natural parks of ses Salines and Cala d’Hort, the little islands in the west and many areas that are classed as natural areas of special interest. El municipio de Sant Josep de sa Talaia ocupa todo el Sur-Oeste de la isla de Eivissa. Su larguísima línea de costa incluye amplias y también muchas zonas donde se combinan espectaculares acantilados con fabulosas calas. Among the highlights are the six churches (one for each village, except for Sant Francesc de s’Estany, which has two), archaeological sites of great importance such as sa Caleta (one of the places on Eivissa that has been declared a Heritage of Humanity) and ses Païsses in Cala d’Hort, chapels, ancient wells, traditional houses, etc. There is a great deal to see and a great deal to discover.

The dining area, a terrace with chaises longues and low tables... A calm and relaxing place to enjoy to the full. During dinner, a live jazz trio serenades both diners and guests enjoying a chilled cocktail. The kitchen serves Mediterranean cuisine, vegetarian dishes and organic Ibizan specialities until 1am every night of the week. The chillout area is open from June between 9pm and 4am. LLuis LLunas, el Chef del restaurante del Club
La nuestra es una cocina de producto LLuis Gómez LLunas nacido en Barcelona el 3 de Novembre del 1969,hijo de Dyango y Lydia, segundo de cuatro hermanos, y único que no se dedica a la música. En 2004 decidió, junto con su hermano Marc y su mujer, cambiar su vida en Barcelona para tener su propio restaurante en el puerto de Ibiza “El Brasero”. Tras cuatro años dirigiendo su propio restaurante, decidió emprender en 2009 un nuevo reto: dirigir el Restaurante del Club Nautic de Sant Antoni. Empezó muy joven en esto de la cocina, ¿siempre tuvo claro que lo suyo eran los fogones? “Sí, desde pequeño disfrutaba viendo a mi madre cocinando, me encantaba sentarme a su lado mientras preparaba sus platos en el restaurante “La casa de Ibiza” en Barcelona, que regentó durante 8 años. A mi madre no le hacia mucha gracia que me dedicara a la hostelería, ya que es una profesión muy dura, para disuadirme a los 14 años me puso a trabajar en la cocina de un Hotel de Cala LLonga, pero lo único que consiguió fue demostrarme a mi mismo que yo estaba hecho para la cocina”. ¿Qué encuentra un cliente que visita por primera vez el restaurante del Club? “Bueno ante todo un entorno precioso, en lo que se refiere a las instalaciones. Cuando entran en el restaurante, lo primero que se van a encontrar es a mi mujer Sandra, que les reci-
birá con un trato exquisito. En cuanto se la ve, se nota que es una gran profesional, y que disfruta del trato con la gente. Como cocinero te diría que nuestra cocina es mediterránea elaborada y creativa, pero en realidad, a mi me gusta pensar que es una cocina de producto. Me explico, lo que realmente me encanta es encontrar la mejor materia prima, y a partir de eso, sacarle el mejor partido con la mayor sencillez posible”. ¿La última creación de Adrià o el puchero de la abuela? “El puchero de la abuela”. ¿Dulce o salado? “Salado”. ¿Un restaurante donde le gusta comer? “Racó de Can Fabes”. ¿Un cocinero con el que te hubiera gustado trabajar? “Santi Santamaría”. ¿Una receta que nunca pasará de moda? “Rabo de Toro al vino tinto”. ¿Una debilidad en su carro de la compra? “La Coca-Cola”. ¿Un ingrediente que deteste? “Ninguno”. ¿Una virtud? “Paciencia”. ¿Un defecto? “Metomentodo”.
“We serve market cuisine” Lluis Gómez Llunas was born in Barcelona on 3rd November 1969 to Dyango and Lydia, the second oldest of four siblings and the only one not a musician. Together with his brother Marc and wife Sandra, he upped and left Barcelona in 2004 to open their own restaurant in Ibiza Town, “El Brasero”. Four years later, he decided to take on a new challenge: to manage the Club Nàutic de Sant Antoni restaurant. Did you always dream of being a chef? “Yes. As a kid I used to love watching my mum cook, I’d sit next to her as she prepared the meals at the “Casa de Ibiza” restaurant in Barcelona, which she ran for eight years. My mum wasn’t that keen on me entering the restaurant trade as it’s a tough profession, so to dissuade me she got me a job in the kitchen of a hotel in Cala Llonga when I was 14. Much to her dismay, that only went to prove that I was made out to become a chef”. What does a guest find when they step into the Club restaurant for the first time? “First of all, the restaurant’s in a stunning location as we all know. When a guest goes through the doors, they are warmly welcomed by my wife Sandra. As soon as you see her at work, you notice that she’s a true professional and enjoys the rapport with guests. I say we serve creative Mediterranean cuisine, but I prefer to call it market cuisine. Let me explain, what I really love is finding only the best raw materials and then working with them”. The latest creation by Ferran Adrià or your grandmother’s stew? “My grandmother’s stew”. Sweet or savoury? “Savoury”. A restaurant where you like dining? “Racó de Can Fabes”. A chef you’d have liked to work with? “Santi Santamaría”. A recipe that will never go out of fashion? “Oxtail in a red wine sauce”. Your shopping trolley is never without...? “Coca-Cola”. A water sports resort (in Spanish, estación náutica) is an association of companies whose aim is to manage, plan, promote and market their nautical product, in order to provide a satisfactory experience for tourists. The Spanish Association of Water Sports Resorts groups together 26 destinations in Spain with a long tradition of nautical and family tourism. It is also an association that can count on public support from the ministries through TURESPAÑA and from the autonomous.
