n año más os invito a conocer nuestro Club a través de esta revista. En ella podéis encontrar mucha información sobre las actividades que organizamos durante el año, así como un calendario de regatas y otro de competiciones de natación.

Me gustaría agradecer a los socios de este humilde Club que sigan creyendo en él y aportando su granito de arena a los deportes náuticos.

Tampoco quiero olvidarme de dar las gracias a nuestros colaboradores, ya que son en gran parte responsables de que continuemos con la misma ilusión del primer día, entre ellos Endesa, Wolkswagen-Eivimotor, Asesoría Unidad, Sa Nostra … Y, por supuesto, a instituciones como el Exmo. I’d like to thank the members of our Club for their ongoing dedication and for doing their bit towards the promotion of water-based sports.

Thanks also to our sponsors such as Endesa, Wolkswagen-Eivimotor, Asesoría Unidad, Sa Nostra etc., who help keep alive the dream we’ve had since day one. A la primera reuni n para fundar el Club s lo asistieron cinco personas > La escasez de espacio es nuestro único problema en la actualidad > Marcos Ferrer fue el auténtico impulsor y creador del Club Habladnos de los principios.

JM.- El club se creó a finales del año 1991, aunque se habló de la creación del mismo mucho antes.

JR.- En la primera reunión que se organizó para fundar el Club sólo asistieron cinco personas, poco después se celebró una segunda en la para nuestra sorpresa se llenó la sala del hogar del jubilado, estaba a tope, no sabíamos si seguir mardeIbiza8

con la reunión o salir corriendo, fue todo un éxito. ¿Con qué empezasteis la escuela de vela?

JR.- Según recuerdo, la escuela de vela empezó con seis optimist y seis tablas de windsurf.

JM.- Efectivamente es así, pero empezamos navegando en la playa, los barcos se guardaban en las rocas (donde actualmente se encuentra ubicada la escuela de esquí de la playa de Sta Eulalia), cada vez que entraba un temporal había

que coger los barcos y subirlos playa arriba para que no se los llevase el temporal. ¿Qué diferencias hay entre los primeros tiempos y ahora?

JM.- En algunas cosas hay una gran diferencia, hay muchísimo mas material, hay más personal (monitores), se organizan muchas mas regatas, etc. en lo que espacio se refiere seguimos igual que antes, no tenemos sitio, aunque parece que eso podría cambiar de sitio.

JR.- No hay sitio, ese es el único problema en la actualidad, aunque hay que ser justos y decir que el puerto deportivo colabora activamente con nosotros (desde aquí quiero darles las gracias) y nos ha cedido un espacio en la punta del espigón, eso es un sitio, pero necesitamos infraestructura, necesitamos baños, aula, pañol, etc.

Habladnos de la sección de natación.

JR.- La sección de natación se puso en marcha a finales del año 99 y en la actualidad en natación tenemos un gran equipo de nadadores. Cada día mejoran un poco, tenemos muy buenos monitores. A nivel de instalaciones estamos muy bien, en la actualidad llevamos las piscinas de Sta Gertrudis y de Sta Eulalia.

JM.- Si, en natación tienen unas grandes instalaciones y estamos ahora luchando para conseguir lo mismo para la vela.

Alguna anécdota de los primeros tiempos.

JR.- Recuerdo perfectamente la primera paella que organizamos para una entrega de trofeos, la hicimos debajo de unos pinos debajo de la punta de Es Faralló, con todo el material prestado porque no teníamos nada, por no tener nada, no teníamos una triste espumadera para mover el arroz, así que tuvimos que adaptar unos remos para que hiciesen de espumadera, pesaban tanto que casi me caigo dentro.

JM.- Esta fue la primera entrega de premios que organizábamos como Club Náutico, imagina como era, que ni siquiera había ningún regatista de nuestro Club, aun no teníamos ni barcos.

JM.- Al crear el Club se nos indicó que teníamos que tener una sede, una dirección y como no teníamos ninguna, al final dimos el apartado de correos 350, durante años esa era la sede del Club “el apartado de correos 350”. ¿Quereis indicar algo más?

JR y JM.- Sí. Queremos destacar la labor realizada por Marcos Ferrer, que fue el auténtico impulso, quien verdaderamente creó el Club.

Por desgracia ya no está entre nosotros. Pero él fue quien viajó a Palma en busca de la documentación para crear el Club, fue quien verda-

deramente hizo todo y por ello se le concedió el nº de socio 001, desde aquí queremos mandarle un abrazo.

Tell us about the beginning.

JM.- The club was founded at the end of 1991, although there had been talk of starting one long before that.

JR.- Only five people attended the first meeting that was organized to found the Club.

Shortly after, a second meeting was held, which, to our surprise, filled the living room of the home of a retiree. It was chock full and we didn’t know whether to continue with the meeting or run away, but it was a real success.

What did you have when you started the sailing school?

JR.- As far as I remember, the sailing school started with six Optimists and six windsurfing boards.

JM.- Exactly so, but we started by sailing from the beach. The boats were kept on the rocks (where the Sta Eulalia beach water ski school is now), and every time there was a storm we had to get the boats and move them up the beach so that the storm wouldn’t take them away.

What differences are there between the early days and now?

JM.- In some cases there is a great difference: there is much more material, there is more personnel (instructors), many more

regattas are organized, etc. but, as far as space is concerned, we are the same as we were before, we don’t have enough space, although it seems that that could change.

JR.- There isn’t enough space, that’s the only problem currently, although to be fair, we must say that the sports port actively cooperates with us (I’d like to thank them from here) and they have given us an area at the end of the breakwater. That’s a space, but we need infrastructure; we need toilets, a classroom, a storeroom, etc.

Tell us about the swimming section.

JR.- The swimming section started at the end of ‘99 and in swimming we currently have a great team of swimmers. They get a little better each day; we have very good instructors.

We’re doing very well for facilities; currently, we have the Sta. Gertrudis and Sta. Eulalia swimming pools.

JM.- Yes, they have some great facilities for swimming and we are now struggling to get the same thing for sailing.

Any anecdotes about the early days.

JR.- I remember perfectly the first paella that we organized for a trophy presentation. We held it under some pine trees under the end of Es Faralló, with all the materials on loan because we didn’t have anything. We didn’t have anything: we didn’t have even a simple slotted spoon to stir the rice with, so we had to adapt some oars so that they could be used for stirring it. They weighed so much that I almost fell in.

JM.- That was the first prize giving that we organized as a yacht club. Imagine how it was then: there wasn’t even a single regatta sailor from our club as we didn’t have any boats yet.

JM.- When the Club was founded, we were told that we had to have a headquarters and an address. and as we didn’t have one, in the end we used post office box 350. So, for years, that was the club’s headquarters, “PO box 350”.

Would you like to say anything else?

JR and JM.- Yes. We’d like to emphasize the work that was done by Marcos Ferrer. He was the real promoter, the one who really created the Club. Unfortunately, he isn’t with us anymore. But he was the one who travelled to Palma looking for the documentation for founding the club. He was the one who really did everything and because of this he was given member number 001. We’d like to send him our best wishes from these pages.

Cursos para la obtención del Patrón de Embarcaciones de Recreo P.E.R.

MÆs de 300 PERSONAS en cinco aæos > Este año se han ampliado Comunicaciones y Propulsión Mecánica El Club Náutico de Santa Eulalia cumplirá próximamente cinco años en esta actividad. En colaboración con la Academia Stella Maris se imparten, en los locales del club, cursos para la

obtención del titulo de Patrón de Embarcaciones de Recreo (PER).

Se realizan tres cada año, con una duración de dos meses y medio cada uno; son 35 clases de

90 minutos distribuidas en tres semanales.

Esta labor ha provisto a cerca de 300 personas del titulo necesario para manejar embarcaciones de recreo con una eslora máxima de

12 metros en una zona de navegación que abarca todo el Archipiélago Balear y la línea paralela a la costa española hasta una distancia de 12 millas.

El gran desarrollo que ha adquirido la navegación de recreo en España y la gran cantidad de embarcaciones que surcan sus aguas, todo más acentuado en una isla turística y de una mar inigualable como la de Ibiza, hace necesario que los patrones tengan un conocimiento más extenso de los temas que afectan a la seguridad, tanto de las embarcaciones como de sus tripulantes, así como la del medio en que navegamos.

A finales del año pasado entraron en vigor algunos cambios en el programa que se estudia para obtener el PER, ya que se amplían las secciones de Comunicaciones y Propulsión Mecánica. También se introduce un apartado sobre ecología marina y algunos conceptos y maniobras de la navegación a vela. Además de las prácticas de navegación que hay que realizar después de aprobar el examen teórico, habrá que realizar también unas practicas de procedimientos radiotelefónicos que nos permitirán manejar en buenas condiciones, una estación de radio.

La navegación de recreo, como su propio nombre indica, es para disfrutar de la mar; es por eso que tener un conocimiento lo más extenso posible del medio en que navegamos y las herramientas que la tecnología pone a nuestro alcance, nos permitirá que ese disfrute sea confortable y seguro.

Three courses are held per year, each lasting two and a half months, with a total of 35 ninetyminute classes divided into three-week blocks.

Over 300 aficionados have been awarded the certificate which enables them to sail yachts up to 12 metres in length in Balearic waters and within a distance of 12 miles from the mainland coast.

The boom in the Spanish recreational boating sector and the sheer number of boats sailing around the coast, even more so in a tourist haven with an unrivalled sea such as Ibiza, call for skippers to have a more in-depth knowledge of safety matters concerning boats and crew

alike, as well as environmental safety.

Late last year saw a revamp in the course syllabus. The sections on Communications and Mechanical Propulsion were lengthened, and two new sections on Marine Ecology and Sailing Concepts and Manoeuvres were added. Besides the obligatory sailing practice on passing the theory exam, practicals in radio communication are now also mandatory to help would-be skippers handle a radio station correctly.

Recreational boating, as its very name suggests, is to enjoy the sea to the full. That's why knowing the environment we sail in and the latest technological advances inside out means that enjoyment will be both comfortable and safe.

Pepa Marí, consellera de Turismo en el Consell Insular de Ibiza

Visto desde el mar,

Ibiza es otro mundo Asumir que Ibiza es una isla, y que por lo tanto está rodeada por el mar, obliga a las instituciones a no dar la espalda a su medio más destacable y a trabajar por una correcta promoción y gestión del turismo náutico.

Pepa Marí, consellera de esta cartera en el Consell Insular de Ibiza, considera que la asignatura pendiente de su ejecutivo es potenciar las actividades deportivas que “en un momento dado naufragaron por la falta de apoyo de los turoperadores y por una caída en las contrataciones”. Recoger el mensaje vigente en una botella donde se aborda, precisamente este recurso “como uno de los más importantes del sector”, es el testigo de Marí para quien el turismo náutico es “mucho más que un valor añadido en Ibiza”.

La consellera avanza, además, estar trabajando en un un nuevo proyecto de creación de productos turísticos en esta línea “en perfecta armonía con el sector”. Trabajar con todas las administraciones implicadas, velar por un entorno privilegiado, y una perfecta armonía entre el Consell y las Estaciones Naúticas son

para la consellera los ingredientes de una receta perfeccionada y que augura agradará a todos los paladares. ¿Cómo definiría al sector náutico en la isla?

Lo definiría como un sector en auge con varias partes diferenciadas y distintos desarrollos.

En cuanto al alquiler de barcos en los puertos

deportivos, y a pesar de la actual coyuntura económica mundial, se trata de un sector que va bien, en una época muy determinada. Otro sector específico que tiene que potenciarse es el de los deportes náuticos, tales como el sky, la vela o el Kayak, que impulsan empresas muy pequeñas con otros problemas específi17mardeIbiza

Tenemos que velar por la calidad de este producto e intentar crear estructuras para la promoción del deporte náutico.

En este marco es muy importante que no haya problemas para la sosteniblidad de la costa, por lo que en el mismo contexto debemos velar por una correcta gestión del litoral y de su riqueza medioambiental para que, precisamente continúe exhibiendo sus atractivos turísticos. ¿En qué ha avanzado la isla en este ámbito?

Hemos trabajado con el sector náutico para darlo a conocer en todo el ámbito nacional e internacional mediante su promoción y desarrollo aunque hay graves problemas económicos que nos impiden, en ocasiones, sacarle más jugo. En el ámbito medioambiental hemos avanzado mucho para estudiar y regular las normativas de las zonas costeras e intentar ponernos todos de acuerdo en la implantación de unos correctos criterios de sostenibilidad acordes a la explotación y comercialización de toda esta estructura. ¿Cómo se están promocionando los deportes náuticos en Ibiza?

La Fundación para la Promoción Turística y los responsables de las estructuras náuticas de la isla estamos haciendo un espectacular esfuerzo en promoción para dar a conocer la celebración de distintos eventos deportivos de manera conjunta para aprovechar todos los recursos que hay. En este línea se ha convocado otras citas tales como concursos de fotografía submarina o de apnea. mardeIbiza18

¿Qué posibilidades hay en este sector? !Infinitas! Tenemos una estructura muy grande por nuestra propia condición de isla y estar rodeados de mar.

Tenemos la poseidonia, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad, y que es la responsable de ese color tan especial de nuestras aguas, sumado a que es la de mayor espacio del mundo. Además tenemos el mayor número de días aptos para el buceo que cualquier otro rincón del mundo. Otro hecho diferenciador es el tamaño del canal que une Eivissa y Formentera ideal para la navegación y que es uno de los más concurridos. Las calas ofrecen por su parte un importante abrigo a los navegantes y nuestra costa en sí vista desde el mar exhibe una isla distinta que se convierte en otro mundo. Ibiza, es por lo tanto, un lujo para cualquier turista, por eso es un atractivo muy fuerte que se ha de poder utilizar para la promoción y atraer así a un mayor número de turistas.

Además no podemos vivir de espadas al mar. ¿Cuáles son los principales reclamos náuticos de cara al turismo?

Trabajamos con ahínco y con fotografías y vídeos, ya que una imagen más de mil palabras, y, en nuestro caso, éstas son impresionantes. Pero no sólo exhibimos esta realidad cuando salimos fuera de la isla, para dar a conocer nuestros atractivos en las ferias internacionales o de otra índole, sino que también organizamos viajes e invitamos a los principales turoperadores y agentes de viajes a conocer in situ esos atractivos y que sean ellos quienes juzguen por sí mismos. Por ello, en connivencia con las estaciones náuticas, intentamos fidelizar a nuestros visitantes mediante el disfrute de todas las posibilidades de la isla.

Además apoyamos en todo lo que está en nuestra mano aquellos eventos deportivos que se celebran en la isla como “La Ruta de la Sal”. ¿Cuál es su oferta actual?

Múltiple, tal y como lo hemos descrito antes.

Eso sí esta oferta ha de enmarcarse en una etapa de transición en la que estamos viviendo grandes cambios con el incremento de amarres en puertos como el de Sant Antoni, los cambios de gestores como los de Ibiza

Nueva, o las obras de mejora y acceso a otras estaciones. A estos hechos se suma la reforma del puerto de Ibiza. Por lo que podríamos decir que, para estar atravesando un momento de transición en el sector en el que las instalaciones están sobreutilizadas, tenemos que buscar optimizar nuestros recursos para no atentar contra nuestro entorno al ser este un valor natural que tenemos que garantizar. La línea en la que trabajamos nos obliga a impulsar la construcción de nuevas rampas, o adecuar el acceso a los atraques y salidas, como se está haciendo en Cala de Bou. ¿Qué significará el nuevo puerto?

Un cambio radical. El puerto de Ibiza en estos momentos no es el más adecuado ya que contempla muchos problemas, causa por la que esperamos que, con las nuevas obras, se organice de una forma más sensata y ordenada. La finalidad de este proyecto es que estas instalaciones sean más atractivas y estén a mayor disposición de la gente para su disfrute. Que esté, en esencia, en mejores condiciones. Además esperamos que se mejoren sus instalaciones para el atraque de cruceros y buques de línea, un hecho que servirá para cubrir demandas históricas por parte de las empresas consignatarias y turísticas.

How would you define the nautical sector on the island?

I would define it as a booming sector with various distinct parts and different developments. As far as boat rentals in the sports ports are concerned, in spite of the current world economic situation, this is a sector

that is going well, at a very special time.

Another specific sector that must be given support is water sports, such as skiing, sailing and kayaking, because they are promoted by very small companies that have other specific problems and need greater support.

What remains to be done to support them?

We must take care of the quality of this product and try to create structures for promoting water sports. Within this framework, it is very important not to have any problems with the sustainability of the coast, so that in this same context we must make sure that we correctly manage the coast and its environmental riches so that it continues to show off its attractions for tourists.

How has the island improved in this area?

We have worked with the nautical sector to make it known at the national and international level by promoting and developing it, although there are serious economic problems that prevent us from taking full advantage of it at times. In the environmental field, we have advanced a great deal in studying and standardizing the regulations for the coastal areas and trying to all be in agreement on implementing the correct criteria for sustainability that fit the utilization and commercialization of this whole structure.

How are water sports being promoted in Ibiza?

The Foundation for the Promotion of Tourism and the managers of the nautical organizations on the island are making a spectacular promotional effort to get together and tell people about the different sporting events that are being held in order to take advantage of all the resources that exist. In this way, various events have been organized, such as underwater photography and free diving competitions.

What possibilities does the island have in this sector?

Infinite possibilities! We have a very large structure because we are an island and we are surrounded by the sea.

We have Poseidonia, which has been declared a Heritage of Humanity and is responsible for the very special colour of our water, added to which, it is the greatest area in the world. We also have the greatest number of days that are suitable for diving of any place in the world. Another differentiating factor is 19mardeIbiza

the size of the channel that links Eivissa and Formentera. It is ideal for yachting and is already one of the most popular. For their part, the bays offer valuable shelter to sailors and our coast itself, when viewed from the sea, shows a different island that becomes another world. Ibiza is therefore a luxury for any tourist. That's why it has a very strong attraction that must be used for promoting it and for attracting a greater number of tourists. Also, we cannot live with our backs to the sea.

What are the main nautical inducements used for tourism?

What do you currently offer?

A radical change. At the moment, the port of Ibiza is not the most suitable as it has many problems, which is the reason for our hoping that, with the new work, it can be organized in a more sensible and orderly fashion.

The aim of this project is for these facilities to be more attractive and to be more available for people to enjoy. Essentially, there will be better conditions. We also hope that the facilities for mooring cruise ships and liners will be improved, a fact that will serve to deal with the longstanding demands from shipping and tourist companies.

Nuestro objetivo en los puertos es mejorar la gesti n y ofrecer buenos servicios a los usuarios El conseller de Medi Ambient, Miquel Àngel Grimalt, como presidente de la empresa pública Ports de les Illes Balears, ha hecho una apuesta decidida y firme en la mejora de las instalaciones de los puertos que son competencia de la Comunitat Autònoma. En esta entrevista, explica sus líneas de actuación con respecto a la gestión de los puertos autonómicos. ¿Que importancia tienen los puertos para la vida económica y social de Baleares?

“Su importancia, a lo largo de Historia, ha sido fundamental para la población de las Islas. En primer lugar, como única vía que tenían las persones para salir al exterior y después para atender las crecientes necesidades comerciales. Ya en la Edad Media, el comercio de nues-

tros puertos era muy destacado y significativo. Tampoco podemos olvidar la importancia de la actividad pesquera que continua teniendo la práctica totalidad de sus bases en los puertos de la comunidad autónoma y la trascendencia actual del turismo náutico en nuestra Comunidad”. ¿Qué función desempeña la empresa

gestión portuaria mediante la aplicación de criterios empresariales y ofrecer buenos servicios a los usuarios. Todo ello con criterios conservacionistas y de respeto al entorno natural, en este caso marino, no sólo por parte de la Administración, sino también de los mismos usuarios. De esta manera, todos contribuiremos a mejorar el patrimonio marino. No podemos olvidar que los puertos de gestión directa de la Conselleria de Medi Ambient registraron el año pasado casi un millón de pasajeros, de los cuales un 38 por ciento corresponden a pasaje de cabotaje i el resto a usuarios de golondrinas. Así mismo a los puertos de gestión directa de la Conselleria llegaron, en 2008, un total de 1,6 toneladas de pescado con un valor de primera venta superior a los 11 millones de euros”. ¿Qué política seguirá Ports de les Illes Balears con el número actual de amarres?

“La Conselleria de Medi Ambient, a través de la empresa pública Ports de les Illes Balears, ha podido atender las necesidades de una mayor oferta de plazas de amarre en los puertos de gestión autonómica con la creación de nuevas y mejores instalaciones portuarias, de calidad, modernas, sostenibles e integradas en el entorno. Esta mayor oferta de plazas se ha conseguido a través de dos vías principales: la creación directa de nuevos mardeIbiza22

puntos de amarre y la reordenación de las ya existentes con la regulación adecuada de las listas de espera, una asignatura pendiente que ya hemos empezado a resolver en numerosos puertos. Todo ello sin proyectos impactantes ni grandes obras de infraestructura”. ¿Cómo se pueden conseguir más amarres sin obras impactantes?

“El sistema adoptado para mejorar la oferta de amarres ha estado marcado por la voluntad de protección del entorno natural, no permitiendo la creación de nuevos puertos ni grandes ampliaciones. En definitiva, lo que se ha hecho es favorecer la mejora y optimización del espejo de agua ya existente en nuestros puertos, apostando por un crecimiento sostenible. Paralelamente al incremento de la oferta de amarres, se ha trabajado en la mejora de las dotaciones de servicios, principalmente en lo que respecta a medidas de seguridad, equipamientos antiincendios y remodelaciones de instalaciones obsoletas.

Se han instalado nuevos pantalanes flotantes para los usuarios de temporada”. ¿De cuántos amarres estamos hablando?

“Desde el inicio de la actual legislatura, el crecimiento de la oferta de amarres ha sido de un total de 942 nuevas plazas, de las cuales 574 corresponden a puertos de gestión directa de la Conselleria -362 en Mallorca,

146 en Menorca y 66 en Eivissa- y 368 en los puertos de gestión indirecta -53 en Mallorca, 105 en Menorca y 210 en Eivissa-. El 90 por ciento de todos estos amarres son flotantes y desmontables”. ¿Qué objetivo se consigue con los pantalanes flotantes y desmontables?

“El objetivo de estas actuaciones es atender y dar una respuesta eficaz a las mayores demandas de amarres durante la temporada alta y reducir la practica de fondeos ilegales de embarcaciones en nuestras costas. De esta manera, además, se protege la Posidonia oceánica de nuestro fondos marinos y se ofrece más seguridad a los usuarios”. ¿Qué pasará con las concesiones actuales?

“Continuaremos las revisiones de las concesiones con el doble objetivo de incrementar los ingresos por canon y conseguir unas inversiones importantes destinadas a la mejora de las instalaciones por parte de los clubes náuticos”. ¿La Conselleria de Medi Ambient creó la Direcció General de la Mar. Por qué?

“Porque no podemos olvidar que somos unas islas y el hecho de estar rodeadas de mar ha condicionado y condiciona totalmente nuestra vida, sobretodo por lo que respecta al transporte y, especialmente durante las últimas décadas, a la economía turística que hemos desarrollado. Precisamente por el turismo, hemos de mantener el mar en buenas condiciones. Paralelamente, la misma actividad turística ha generado una intensa actividad relacionada con el mar, como es el caso del buceo. Hay que regular todo esto desde la propia Comunitat Autònoma”. ¿Además de la regulación, que otras actuaciones están previstas en relación al mar?

“También hemos de dar a conocer nuestro patrimonio marítimo y hacer llegar a residentes y visitantes la importancia y riqueza de nuestra historia marítima y los fuertes vínculos que siempre hemos mantenido con el mar. De aquí surgen la potenciación del Aula de la Mar y la idea de crear el Museu de la Mar, una asignatura pendiente de nuestra tierra desde hace demasiado tiempo. Otra actuación prevista, en línea con lo dicho anteriormente, es la creación y dotación de una Oficina de Buceo para ordenar, controlar y potenciar la práctica del buceo deportivo y el conocimiento de los fondos marinos”.

How can there be more moorings without work that causes a great impact?

“The system that we have adopted for improving the moorings available has been characterized by a desire to protect the natural environment and not to permit the creation of new ports or great expansion. In fact, what has been done is to encourage the improvement and optimization of the surface area of water already available in the ports and making a commitment to sustainable development. In parallel with increasing the number of moorings available, we have worked on improving the services provided, mainly safety measures, fire fighting equipment and remodelling mardeIbiza24

obsolete facilities. New floating pontoons have been installed for seasonal users.”

How many moorings are we talking about?

“Since the start of this legislature, the number of moorings available has increased by a total of 942 new places, of which 574 correspond to ports directly managed by the council - 362 on Majorca, 146 on Menorca and 66 on Ibiza - and 368 in ports that are indirectly managed - 53 in Majorca, 105 in Menorca and 210 on Ibiza. 90% of all these moorings are floating and can be disassembled.”

What is the aim of the floating, removable pontoons?

“The aim of these actions is to meet and provide an effective response to the increased demand for moorings during the high season and to reduce the practice of boats mooring illegally on our coasts. This also protects the Poseidonia on our sea beds and offers users more safety.”

What will happen to the current concessions?

“We will continue to review the concessions, with the twin objectives of increasing income from fees and making significant investments in improving yacht club facilities.”

The Council for the Environment created

Why? “Because we cannot forget that we are islands and the fact that we are surrounded by the sea has determined and continues to determine our lives completely, above all with regard to transport and, especially during the last few decades, the tourist economy that we have developed. “We must also publicize our maritime heritage and inform residents and visitors of the importance and the wealth of our maritime history and the strong links that we have always had with the sea. Out of this came the development of the Aula de la Mar (Sea Classroom) and the idea of creating the Museum of the Sea, a topic that has been pending in our area for too long. Another intended action, in line with what has been said before, is to create and equip a Diving Office to organize, control and foster the practice of sports diving and the knowledge of the seabed.”

“Nuestro gran proyecto es la futura escuela municipal de vela del Club Náutico Santa Eulalia”.

Todos los j venes de Ibiza deber an saber navegar > “Nuestro mayor logro sería que todas las playas cumpliesen con el sistema de gestión medioambiental ISO 14001” Antonia Picó Pérez es la coordinadora del departamento de litoral del Ayuntamiento de Santa Eulalia del Río, demás de ser la delegada de Protección civil del municipio. ¿En qué consiste el departamento de litoral y playas?

Este departamento se creó a raíz de esta última mardeIbiza26

legislatura para poder coordinar todo el litoral del municipio. Tenemos un litoral muy extenso, cerca de 74 km con 22 playas, por lo tanto la gestión es muy compleja. Sobretodo porque hay distintas competencias administrativas, interactúan muchas administraciones. Por un lado tenemos al Govern Balear “Medioambiente”, por otro lado tenemos a la demarcación de costas, y también está Capitanía. Con el

Ayuntamiento anterior se tramitaba todo mediante varios departamentos: obras, medioambiente… Era todo muy complejo.

Entonces, desde el Ayuntamiento se decidió montar este departamento para coordinar, organizar y gestionar todos los temas relacionados con litoral y playas. Pero no es sólo una oficina meramente administrativa, sino que está también para impulsar y fomentar proyectos (banderas azules, banderas verdes) y muchas actividades fuera de la gestión administrativa.

Las banderas ¿qué representan?

Primero de todo habría que diferenciar entre la clásica bandera azul y la menos conocida bandera verde.

Históricamente se empezó por las banderas azules. La bandera azul es un galardón que se entrega a nivel europeo. En estos momentos tenemos 5 banderas azules (Cala Llonga, Santa Eulalia, Es Canar, Cala Llenya y Es Figueral).

La bandera azul reconoce una calidad de las aguas “excelente”. El Govern Balear realiza, todos los años, unas analíticas de las aguas de las distintas playas con esta distinción y hay tres posibilidades: no apto, apto y excelente. Para obtener una bandera azul es imprescindible que el resultado sea excelente. Después de esto hay que tener un equipamiento y una infraestructura como puede ser duchas, baños, acceso para discapacitados, socorristas, etc… Esto garantiza al usuario que las aguas son excelentes y que, además hay un equipamiento adecuado como anteriormente he indicado.

Por otro lado tenemos la bandera verde, primero de todo quiero indicar que el pasado verano conseguimos la primera bandera verde que se ha concedido en las Islas Baleares, y se adjudicó a la playa de Sta. Eulalia.

Pues bien, esta bandera representa que se somete la playa a una gestión medioambiental (ahorro de agua en las duchas, ahorro energético de las luces, recogida selectiva). Hay que tener un plan de emergencia en caso de vertidos (como pasó hace dos años con el Don Pedro), la calidad de las aguas debe ser excelente, en resumen, gestionamos la playa medioambientalmente y para ello nosotros cumplimos con el sistema de gestión medioambiental ISO 14001 certificado por AENOR. Proyectos.

Como proyectos a corto y medio plazo pretendemos conseguir algunas banderas azules más y

banderas verdes para las playas más importantes del municipio. Aunque nuestro mayor logro sería que todas las playas cumpliesen con el sistema de gestión medioambiental UNE ISO 14001, pero es bastante complejo y hay que ir paso a paso.

Por otro lado tenemos un proyecto que nos acaban de aprobar y está en fase de adjudicación, que se llama “remodelación y tratamiento del borde litoral de la zona de Cas Capità”, este es un proyecto muy ambicioso con un coste de casi un millón de euros.

Por supuesto nuestro gran proyecto no es otro que la plataforma para la futura escuela municipal de vela del Club Náutico Santa Eulalia, que ya está muy avanzado y que esperamos poder adjudicar las obras este verano para que se inicien una vez finalizada la temporada estival.

Por último ¿quieres añadir algo?

Sí, quiero recordar a todos que vivimos en una isla. Si viviésemos en la montaña, no se me pasaría por la cabeza que un joven no supiese esquiar, pues aquí debería ser lo mismo con la vela. Todos los jóvenes deberían saber navegar o al menos haberlo probado. Creo que tenemos unas aguas envidiables y unas condiciones para la práctica de la vela inmejorables, muy pronto además, tendremos unas instalaciones acordes con este gran municipio, así que animo a todos y todas los/as jóvenes a practicar este bello deporte.

What is the coast and beach department?

This department was created because of the last legislature to be able to coordinate all the coastline in the municipality. We have a very extensive coastline, around 74 km with 22 beaches, so that managing them is very complicated. Above all, this is because there are different administrative competencies and many departments interact. On the one hand, we have the Balearic government’s “Environment” and, on the other hand, we have the Coastal Commission, and also the port authority. With the previous town council, everything was handled by various departments: public works, environment... It was all very complicated. So, the town council decided to start this department to coordinate, organize and manage all the issues related to the coast and the beaches. But it’s not just a purely administrative office; it also has to promote and develop projects (blue flags, green flags) and many activities outside the administrative management.

What do the flags represent?

First of all, we’d have to differentiate between the classic blue flag and the less well known green flag.

Historically, it began with the blue flags. The blue flag is an award that is granted at the European level. At the moment, we have five blue flags (Cala Llonga, Santa Eulalia, Es Canar, Cala Llenya and Es Figueral).

The blue flag recognizes the quality of the water as being “excellent”. Every year, the Balearic government analyzes the water from the different beaches that have this flag and there are three possibilities: Not fit, fit and excellent. To obtain a blue flag, it is indispensable for the result to be excellent. After this, there has to be the correct equipment and infrastructure, such as showers, toilets, access for the disabled, lifeguards, etc. This

guarantees users that the water is excellent and that there is also suitable equipment, as I noted above.

On the other hand, we have the green flag.

First of all, I would like to note that last summer we got the first green flag that has been granted to the Balearic Islands and it was given to the beach of Sta. Eulalia.

Now, this flag means that the beach has environmental management (water saving in the showers, energy saving in the lighting and selective waste disposal). There must be an emergency plan for spills (as happened two years ago with the Don Pedro), the quality of the water must be excellent and, in short, we manage the beach environmentally and, to do this, we comply with the ISO 14001 environmental management system certified by AENOR. Projects.

As short and medium term projects, we intend to get some more blue flags and green flags for the most important beaches in the municipality. Although our greatest success would be in having all the beaches comply with the UNE ISO 14001 environmental management system, but this is quite complicated and we have to go one step at a time.

On the other hand, we have a project that has just been approved and is in the adjudication phase. It’s called “remodelling and treatment of the coastal strip of the Cas Capità area”.

This is a very ambitious project with a cost of almost 1 million euros.

Of course, our big project is none other than the platform for the future municipal sailing school at the Santa Eulalia Yacht Club, which is very advanced. We hope to be able to award the tender for the construction work this summer so that it can be started after the summer season has ended.

Finally, would you like to add anything?

Yes, I’d like to remind everyone that we live on an island. If we lived in the mountains, it wouldn’t enter my head that a young person could not know how to ski. Well, here, it should be the same with sailing. All young people should be able to sail or at least have tried it. I think that we have some enviable water and some incomparable conditions for sailing and also very soon we will have some facilities that match this great municipality.

Cosechamos buenos resultados > Fieles a la Clase un metro internacional Una temporada más, la flotilla de veleros radio control prepara sus participaciones en competiciones de todos los niveles, entrenando en la playa de Talamanca, siempre que las condiciones del tiempo lo haya permitido.

Nuestros veleros siguen siendo de la clase Un Metro Internacional, la más difundida en todo el mundo. Como su nombre indica, tienen un metro de eslora. Esto los hace de un tamaño que nos permite navegar en el mar (siempre preferiblemente lugares que estén un poco protegidos) y, a la vez, fáciles de manejar en tierra y económicos. No son barcos a imitación de los de escala real, si no que están diseñados exclusivamente para regatear.

También, como desde varios años atrás, alguno de nuestros patrones se ha desplazado a mardeIbiza30

las competiciones que se vienen desarrollando ya de forma habitual, dentro del calendario anual de regatas de vela en general. El más destacable es el Campeonato de Baleares de Vela RC, celebrado en las aguas del CN S´Arenal de Mallorca, durante los días 21 y 22 de febrero y, consiguiendo el patrón Ángel Sanz un tercer puesto, tras perder el segundo puesto debido a que las condiciones de viento no le favorecieron durante el segundo día y, por supuesto del buen nivel del resto de participantes. Este puesto lo incluye dentro del equipo balear, el cual representara a nuestra comunidad en los eventos que se disputan a nivel nacional.

Esperamos por tanto, también, tener buena representación este año en la Copa de

España en mayo en la Manga del Mar Menor.

Hay que destacar que en ella participa el actual flamante campeón de Europa, el español Guillermo Beltrí, lo cual nos da una idea del gran nivel que se está alcanzando en España.

Finalmente, cualquier aficionado a la vela que quiera probar uno de estos barcos, no dude en ponerse en contacto para poder disfrutar de una nueva manera de participar en esta actividad náutica en la cual siempre uno se lo pasa bien, ya sea regateando amistosamente con otros barcos o, por el simple placer de ver navegar a estos veleros únicamente con el impulso del viento a semejanza de sus hermanos mayores. También es de destacar que es una actividad completamente respetuosa con el

medio ambiente, ya que estos barcos, sólo utilizan el viento para su propulsión, sin ningún tipo de motor que produzca residuos y sin causar ningún tipo de molestias por ruidos.

Reaping success > Racing in international One metre Class At the launch of another season, the fleet of radio-controlled boats can be seen in competition training off Talamanca beach, weather permitting of course.

Our sailboats still race in the International One Metre class, the fastest-growing in the world.

As the name suggests, boats measure a maximum one metre in length. This means they are both seaworthy (preferably always in sheltered waters) and manageable on land, whilst also being economical to run. Replicas of fullsize boats they are not, these are sailboats exclusively-designed for racing.

Following the trend started some years back, some of our skippers also take part in the increasingly-regular competitions staged throughout the year to coincide with general sailing regattas. The most respected is the Balearic RC Sailboat Championship, which was held on 21st and 22nd February at CN S'Arenal in Mallorca. Skipper Ángel Sanz came in third after narrowly missing out as runner-up follo-

wing a particularly choppy second day of racing and, of course, some very stiff competition. He will now form part of the Balearic team representing our region in national-level events.

Our fingers are crossed then for this year's Spanish Championship taking place in Manga del Mar Menor in May. Also competing is fellow Spaniard Guillermo Beltrí, recently-crowned European champion and proof of the level this sport is reaching in Spain.

Last but not least, any sailing fan interested in trying out one of these boats shouldn't hesitate get in touch with us. Enjoy a new perspective of sailing, be it racing against other boats or simply observing the grace of these sailboats powered by the wind just like their large-scale relatives.

Consejos sobre la seguridad en el mar

movilidad además de las personas que no saben nadar, deberían llevarlos puestos en todo momento.

Se deben llevar todos los pertrechos perfectamente trincados. Hay que tener las bengalas guardadas en un lugar seguro y estanco pero de fácil acceso en caso de emergencia. Todos tenemos la manía de ir acumulando “cosas” en el barco, no es ninguna tontería hacer limpieza de esas “cosas” de vez en cuando.

EN EL MAR

MÆs vale prevenir La mayoría de los que tenemos barcos creemos que somos mejores o peores marineros, pero la realidad es que hay pequeños detalles que no debemos olvidar o en caso de desconocer debemos aprender.

Estos son algunos consejos útiles: ANTES DE SALIR AL MAR

Es muy importante comprobar el parte meteorológico, en caso de realizar varias salidas a lo largo de un tiempo, es muy interesante comprobar el parte meteo a diario y aunque ese día no se navegue, vale la pena acercarse al mar para comprobar que hay una cierta similitud con el parte que hemos visto anteriormente.

Dan partes meteorológicos en TV y en las radios “aunque estos son bastante generalistas y no son muy de fiar”. Dan partes meteo a través de VHF a las 09:10h, a las 14:10h y a las 21:10h en las frecuencias 16-03, también a través de Internet se pueden conseguir partes meteo, a través del INM “Instituto Nacional de Meteorología” en http://www.inm.es o el http://www.windguru.cz/es/ entre otros muchos.

Si se va salir al mar con bastante viento y éste es de tierra, es mejor navegar cerca de la costa, en caso de que el viento es de mar, hay que navegar alejados de la costa.

En caso de que haya un cambio brusco de presión “5 milibares en una hora” o cambio brusco de temperatura o hay nubes del tipo “cúmulos” y crecen rápidamente, y además mardeIbiza32

ese crecimiento es muy vertical, no se debería salir al mar y en caso de estar en el mar, se debe regresar con prontitud a puerto.

Por muy buen tiempo que haga, se debe llevar a bordo, trajes de agua y ropa de abrigo adecuada para la época del año.

Es interesante saber si entre los marineros que se lleva a bordo, alguno se marea, es friolero o alérgico. Eso puede evitar situaciones muy incomodas. Antes de arrancar motores interiores de gasolina, hay que encender al menos un minuto los extractores y aún así se debería abrir las tapas de motor para estar seguros de que no hay vapores.

Cuando se sueltan amarres, se deben soltar en primer lugar los de sotavento y a continuación los de barlovento, al igual que cuando se vuelve al atraque primero se cogen los cabos de barlovento y luego los de sotavento. Esto es con independencia de que sean cabos de amarre o sea una guía del muerto.

Antes de meter la marcha, comprobar que la guía del muerto está en el fondo y que toda la tripulación esté firme.

Nunca, repito ¡nunca! Se sacan las piernas por fuera del pasamanos para ayudar a maniobrar. Para dicha operación existen los bicheros y las defensas.

España es el único país donde nadie o casi nadie se pone un chaleco salvavidas. Si no son todos a bordo los que se lo pongan, al menos los niños y las personas con poca

La barbaridad mas grande que se ve y se ve casi a diario, es cuando los tripulantes que van a bordo de un barco, no tienen buenas vistas y deciden sentarse en la proa, donde normalmente hay un pasamanos y sacar las piernas para sentirse libres o frescos o ¡dios sabe que!

Eso jamás se debería permitir. si uno lo piensa fríamente esa situación es muy peligrosa, si da la casualidad que cogen una ola grande o una ola cruzada, que la persona que esta en proa “suelen ser niño/as” patina, que se duerme, que le dan un empujoncito, cualquier cosa, si esa persona cae, esa persona está muerta ¡mentira! Ni si quiera muerta, esa persona esta despedazada, troceada.

En resumen, patrones/as por favor no permitáis que nadie se siente en la proa del barco cuando estáis en movimiento.

Hay que conocer las reglas de abordaje y es preferible parar, a llegar a una situación extrema solo porque crees que tienes la razón absoluta ¡recordad que no todos tienen claro si tienen derecho de paso o no.

Tips for safe sailing

Better safe than...

Most of us boat owners believe we are competent sailors, but the truth is that some minor things shouldn’t be forgotten or even should be noted down before we set sail.

Here we offer some helpful tips: BEFORE SETTING SAIL

It is extremely important to consult weather forecasts. If you are planning to set sail regularly over a period of time, still check

the daily weather forecast even though one day you don’t decide to sail. It’s also a good idea to make sure the sea reflects the forecast or not.

Weather forecasts are broadcast on TV and radio, although they can be quite general and not totally reliable. VHF forecasts are transmitted at 9.10am, 2.10pm and 9.10pm on 16-03 frequency, and on Internet sites including the Spanish Met Office www.inm.es or www.windguru.cz/es/ .

When there are strong land breezes, it’s better to sail close to the coast. Otherwise, in the case of strong sea breezes, it’s recommended to sail far from the coastline. Should there be a sudden change in air pressure (5 millibars in one hour), temperature or cloud formation (very tall and quickly-forming cumulus clouds), you shouldn’t set sail. If already out at sea, you should head back to port as soon as possible.

However clement the weather may seem, wetsuits and seasonal clothing should always be carried onboard.

Amongst your guests onboard, make sure that if someone becomes seasick you know if they have allergies or are sensitive to the

swimmers, do wear a lifejacket onboard at all times. All sailing gear must be firmly fastened down.

Keep warning flares in a safe watertight place that is easily accessible in the event of an emergency.

We all tend to accumulate “stuff” on our boats, so a little “spring clean” wouldn’t go amiss from time to time. cold. This way, you’ll avoid any awkward situations. Before starting up inboard petrol engines, turn on fans for at least a minute and open the engine covers to ensure there is no steam present.

When moorings are to be released, first untie the leeward ropes and then the windward ones, and vice versa when entering the berth. This is regardless of whether heaving lines or mooring lines are used. Before setting sail, make sure the mooring line is onshore and that everybody is safely onboard.

A moment of madness seen pretty much day in day out is when passengers onboard decide to sit at the bow and dangle their legs through the guardrail to cool down, feel at one with the ocean or God knows what!

This should never be allowed. Think objectively, this is a really dangerous situation.

Imagine you suddenly sail into a rogue wave or swell, imagine the person at the bow (often a child) slips and falls, or dozes off, or someone bumps into them, anything. If that person falls off, then death is certain. And not just by drowning, they’ll be shredded into pieces. All in all, skippers, please don’t let anybody sit at the bow of the boat when you are sailing.

En 2008 pasaron por el Club más de 450 cursillistas

Humildes, pero con grandes aspiraciones > La falta de espacio es el principal problema Este pasado año ha sido otro año de cambios, donde nos ha dejado Adolfo para ir a entrenar a Palma con la clase 470. Adolfo se marcha pero se ha unido al cuerpo técnico Dani Serra, que hasta ahora ha estado trabajando en el CNI, y como él ha dicho “este Club tiene mucho potencial”, esperamos que dicho potencial se refuerce con su llegada.

Hemos participado a lo largo de la temporada 08/09 en mas de 40 competiciones, desde Cpto de España de Laser, pasando por pruebas muy importantes de crucero como las Jornadas Náuticas Pitiusas, o por pruebas organizadas mardeIbiza34

por nuestro Club, como los Cptos de Ibiza y Formentera de vela ligera o de crucero con una alta participación en los dos casos. No quisiera dejar de mencionar la organización del Trofeo la amistad en conjunción con el Club Náutico Moraira además del Trofeo Endesa con más de 100 barcos inscritos.

La sección de vela del Club Náutico Sta Eulalia es humilde pero con grandes aspiraciones, en la actualidad tenemos un total de 43 chicos/as pertenecientes al equipo de regatas, que navega todo el año con nosotros, la parte técnico/deportiva está más o menos cubierta,

pero en la parte de infraestructura es donde cojeamos, en la actualidad tenemos una gran falta de espacio.

Espacio, ése es el problema. Según información de que disponemos, antes de este verano deberían llegar los permisos para iniciar la construcción de la nueva explanada de vela, dicha explanada se ubicará donde actualmente atracan los ferrys turísticos (frente al Restaurante Sa Punta).

Ya se hizo una mención sobre esta posibilidad, en la edición anterior de la revista, por temas burocráticos no se pudo llevar a cabo, pero esta

vez parece que podríamos empezar a ver la luz al final del túnel. Obviamente, si dichos permisos llegasen, no sería factible el inicio de las obras hasta bien entrado el próximo invierno 2009/10.

CURSOS 2008/2009

Este pasado verano pasaron por el Club más de 450 cursillistas entre la Escola de Estiu, los Campus del Ajuntament, los cursos de adultos y los de vela adaptada.

Para este verano 2009 además de los cursos matinales, incorporaremos una novedad, cursos de iniciación y perfeccionamiento de vela ligera y windsurf en edad escolar por la tarde.

Con esto pretendemos no dejar a nadie “fuera” por incompatibilidad horaria o porque los cursos de mañana estén completos. ¿CÓMO PUEDO INSCRIBIRME EN UN CURSO DE VERANO?

En cualquiera de los casos os atenderá Patri, que encantada os explicará como se desarrollan todos los tipos de cursos, aunque desde aquí os haremos un pequeño resumen.

Todos los cursos serán de lunes a viernes de 9:30h a 13:30h (los matinales) y de 16:00h a 20:00h (los de la tarde).

Hay tres tipos de cursos: ESCOLA D’ESTIU: son cursos para residentes en la isla, subvencionados en un 25% por el Consell Insular. Tienen una duración de dos semanas.

CAMPUS D’ESTIU: consiste en un curso de dos semanas, subvencionado en parte por el Ajuntament de Santa Eulària des Riu. CURSOS DEL CNSE: cursos de una semana organizados por el propio Club.

DISCAPACITADOS

A nivel de vela adaptada, este año hemos conseguido para el Equipo de regatas, a través de Javier Rabelo y su mujer Ruth, un crucero prácticamente nuevo (un Malbec 240) que han cedido para que los discapacitados del CNSE puedan competir (muchísimas gracias a los dos).

También se ha conseguido un barco de regatas puntero para poder participar en La Ruta de La Sal. Éste barco es el Bay Lubi (un IMX 45), perteneciente al Presidente del Club de vela de

Castellón Don Miguel Sánchez.

También pretenden asistir a la Copa del Rey este próximo mes de agosto. A otro nivel de competiciones, nuestro equipo, el Magna Pytiusa CNSE participará en el Palma Vela y el Cpto de España de vela discapacitada, entre otras. También participará en una liguilla de Match RACE con la clase J-80 en Castellón.

Además pretendemos adquirir unas tablas especiales con dos velas donde puedan navegar dos personas a la vez. Con esto queremos conseguir que prácticamente cualquier discapacitado pueda lanzarse a la aventura del windsurf.

También estamos intentando realizar una compra para la clase Optimist de varios juegos de mástiles de regatas, timones y orzas de regata y velas de competición. Y para windsurf estamos negociando la compra de algunas tablas de competición (tipo Formula Experience) además de algunas de velas de windsurf completas de regatas. Todo este material unido al adquirido el año pasado, nos permite decir con toda seguridad, que organizamos cursos de vela con el material mas moderno del que se puede disponer en la actualidad.

MATERIAL PARA 2009

Estamos negociando a través de Endesa, la adquisición de varias tablas en tándem (con dos velas); la compra de dos barcos que sustituyan a las anticuadas gambas, este modelo será el Topper Omega, un modernísimo barco fabricado en polietileno, con unas líneas muy modernas, de fácil planeo con una maniobra

ASPIRACIONES PARA LOS PRÓXIMOS AÑOS

En los próximos años tenemos unos objetivos muy claros. · Promoción de la vela a nivel local, conseguir que el máximo numero posible de jóvenes y no tan jóvenes puedan disfrutar de este bello 35mardeIbiza

pondremos de baños, vestuarios, duchas, aula, de un sitio decente para guardar el material, de un lugar donde dejar las embarcaciones de salvamento “en tierra” y de la posibilidad de salir navegando sin tener que ser remolcados (en la actualidad todos los barcos deben ser remolcados hasta salir del puerto debido al gran movimiento de embarcaciones que tienen su base en dicho puerto). · Queremos que la gente deje de vivir de espaldas al mar, queremos que disfruten de ella, que la respeten, que entiendan cómo funciona una tormenta, cómo funciona una ola, ¿por qué la mar sube o baja?, ¿por qué el mar tiene tantos colores y qué representan?, que conozcan la fauna marina... En resumen, que aprendan a disfrutar de este entorno tan bonito pero a la vez tan fràgil.

AGRADECIMIENTOS

El municipio de Santa Eulária des riu dispone de uno de los litorales mas bellos del Mediterráneo, con unas aguas de una calidad envidiable y es fundamental protegerlo. · Fomentar las competiciones de vela, para crear un espíritu sano y leal entre competidores, este es uno de los pocos deportes donde no se discute con los jueces, donde, lo que un juez de regata dictamina, se acepta y además se le da la mano y se saluda a los oponentes. · Organizar eventos de nivel provincial y nacional, para que así se pueda dar a conocer esta fabulosa tierra y de paso fomentar el turismo náutico y deportivo lejos de la temporada estival. · Promoción de la vela discapacitada, porque nos llena de orgullo poder demostrar a la gente mardeIbiza36

de a pie, que todos somos iguales, que no nos cansaremos de decir “todos somos iguales” y “todos tenemos derecho a practicar cualquier deporte sin importar el tipo de minusvalía”. · Construcción y puesta en marcha de la futura explanada de vela, nuestro objetivo más importante. La no consecución de este objetivo impediría en cierto modo lograr los otros objetivos, porque no debemos olvidar que en estos momentos disponemos de un sitio donde dejar los barcos y el material gracias a que el Puerto Deportivo Santa Eulalia nos cede una zona en la punta del espigón sin ninguna contraprestación (os damos mil gracias por vuestra paciencia).

Pero es una lástima que en dicha zona no dispongamos ni de baños ni de vestuarios, con lo cual nuestros chicos/as tienen que desnudarse para ponerse el traje de neopreno, y lo que es peor, después de varias horas entrenando en un mar movido y muy frío, quitarse el neopreno y volver a vestirse, todo esto en la calle. · Cuando logremos por fin esta explanada dis-

Unassuming, but with dreams and aspirations > Lack of space is main problem This year has also been one of change, with Adolfo bidding farewell to go and train in Palma with the 470 class. Adolfo may have gone but we’re extremely happy to welcome aboard Dani Serra, who until recently was working at the CNI. As Dani himself said, “this Club has got amazing potential”. Fingers crossed that potential is further strengthened with his arrival.

Throughout the 08/09 season, we’ve taken part in over 40 competitions, from the Spanish Laser Championship to important cruiser trials such as the Ibiza and Formentera Nautical Trials, and trials organised by our Club such as the Ibiza and Formentera Championships for dinghies and cruisers, both with fantastic numbers of participants. Not forgetting, of course, the organisation of the Friendship Trophy in association with the Club Náutico Moraira and the Endesa Trophy, which saw over 100 boats race.

The Club Náutico Santa Eulalia sailing school is unassuming but has dreams and aspirations.

Right now, we have forty-three regatta teammembers sailing throughout the year with us, the technical/sports side is well-covered, but our stumbling block lies in infrastructure: at the moment, there’s a major lack of space.

Space, that is the problem. According to the information we have our hands on, before the summer we should expect to receive the licences to launch the construction of the new wharf, located where the tourist ferries currently dock (opposite Restaurante Sa Punta).

We already mentioned this possibility in last year’s magazine, but bureaucratic matters got in the way. This time it seems we can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, if the licences arrive, the works won’t feasibly start until well into winter 2009/10.

Last summer, the Club welcomed over 450 cour-

se participants divided between the Summer School, the Municipal Summer Campus, adult courses and disabled sailing courses.

This summer, besides the morning courses, we are launching beginners and proficiency afternoon courses in dinghy-racing and windsurfing for school-age children. This way, nobody will ‘miss out’ due to incompatible timetables or because the morning courses are full.

There are three types of courses: SUMMER SCHOOL: two-week courses for Ibiza residents, with 25% subsidised by the Consell Insular.

SUMMER CAMPUS: a two-week course, partly subsidised by the Santa Eulària des Riu Town Council.

CNSE COURSES: one-week courses organised by the Club.

FOR A SUMMER COURSE?

As for disabled sailing, this year we’ve been given a almost-new cruiser (a Malbec 240) so that people with disabilities from the CNSE can race (thank you very much to Javier Rabelo and his wife Ruth for this!).

We’ve also been given access to a state-of-theart racer (an IMX 45), belonging to the President of the Club de Vela de Castellón, Miguel Sánchez, so we can take part in La Ruta de la Sal regatta.

On competition level, our team ( Magna Pytiusa CNSE) will race in the Palma Vela and the Spanish Disabled Sailing Championship, amongst others. They will also be present in the knock-out rounds for the J-80 Match Race in Castellón. We also aim to secure some speciallyadapted two-sail boards so two people can windsurf at the same time, meaning any disabled person can enjoy the thrill of windsurfing.

Through Endesa we’re negotiating the acquisition of several tandem boards (with two sails), the purchase of two super-modern Topper Omega, an ultra-modern model made from polyethylene, a smooth cruiser and easy to manoeuvre, with the added bonus of a gennaker and a trapeze. We’re also looking into buying several sets of Optimist racing masts, rudders, luffs and competition sails. As for windsurfing, we are about to purchase several competition boards mardeIbiza38

(Formula Experience) as well as regatta sailboards. All this equipment, in addition to last year’s purchases, means we can undoubtedly claim to organise sailing courses using the most upto-date equipment on the market.

SHORT-TERM GOALS

Our goals for the coming years are as clear as the Ibizan sea: · Promote sailing within the local community, opening up this beautiful sport to the young and young-at-heart alike whilst interacting with our natural environment. Sailing is the perfect opportunity to make new-comers to this sport aware of the importance of preserving and protecting our stunning seascape. The town of Santa Eulària des Riu is blessed with one of the Mediterranean’s most stunning coastlines and lapped by unbelievably crystalline waters. We must do our all to protect this. · Promote sailing competitions, to create a

healthy and sportsmanlike spirit between competitors. This is one of the few sports free from bickering with officials. Whatever the regatta judge says is final. The decision is accepted, hands are shaken and opponents are congratulated or commiserated. · Organise events on a local and regional level in order to bring to light the charm of our fabulous island and, in passing, to promote nautical and recreational tourism outside the summer season. · Promote disabled sailing, because we are proud to show able-bodied people that we are no different. We’ll never tire of saying “we’re all the same” and “we all have the right to enjoy any sport regardless of the type of disability”. · Construct and launch the future wharf, our prime goal. Were this to be unsuccessful, it would set back other goals because remember that now we can moor boats and store equipment only thanks to the space at the end of the breakwater so kindly provided by Puerto

Deportivo Santa Eulalia (thank you so much for your patience). It’s a shame, though, we don’t have bathrooms or changing rooms there. Our boys and girls have to get changed into their wetsuits in full public view and, what’s worse, after hours sailing in an often chilly and choppy sea, have to strip off their wetsuits to get dressed again. · Once we finally get this wharf, we’ll have bathrooms, changing rooms, showers, a meeting room, a decent area to store equipment, a place to leave rescue boats ashore, and the possibility to set sail without being towed out (at the moment, all boats must be towed to the port exit due to the continuous movement of yachts berthed at the marina). · We want people to enjoy and respect the sea, to understand the ins-and-outs of a storm, to know how a wave breaks, to know why the tide comes in or goes out, to know why the sea has such an array of colours and what exactly they mean, to discover marine fauna. In short, for people to learn how to appreciate this oh-sobeautiful yet fragile environment.

países cruzaron el atlántico para intentar arrebatar a los Americanos el trofeo. No fue hasta 1983 que el “Australia II” tras ganar en la regata de challengers, renombrada en esa misma edición como “Louis Vuitton Cup”. Que pudo enfrentarse a el Defender “Liberty”, en un principio el “Liberty” patroneado por “Dennis Conner” consiguió un 3 a 1 a su favor, pero contra pronostico el barco australiano consiguió meterle un 3-4, con lo que después de 132 años de supremacía mundial se marchaba la copa de las 100 guineas al otro lado del globo, a Australia. En relación a este hecho histórico, el Presidente Norteamericano Ronald Reagan dijo “Hasta hoy hemos considerado que los australianos vivian cabeza abajo, a partir de ahora debemos pensar que son ellos los que están cabeza arriba”.

Decir también que ese año 1983, La persona mas odiada de Estados Unidos fue el patron del barco americano “Dennis Conner” y que según decia la leyenda, “aquel que pierda la copa debera sustituir la misma por su cabeza” por suerte para el, eso no ocurrio y consiguió recuperar el trofeo 4 años después yendo como “challenger” a las antípodas. ¿COMO FUNCIONA LA COPA AMERICA?

Copa América

Un poco de historia A mediados del siglo XIX el gobierno Británico organiza una exposición internacional para poder mostrar su supremacía económica e industrial a nivel mundial A esta exposición se le denominó “The Great Exhibition” de 1851.

Con motivo de la exposición se organizó una regata para demostrar su hegemonía marítima.

Para dicha regata se fabricó una jarra de plata valorada en 100 guineas que se entregaría como primer y único premio. Un barco del nuevo mundo, la goleta “América” perteneciente al New York Yacht Club cruzó el atlántico para enfrentarse a la armada invencible. La regata comenzó con 15 de los barcos más rápidos de la corona británica. Tras una lenta salida el “América” fue adelantando a todos sus contrincantes consiguiendo un claro y rotundo triunfo.

En un momento de la prueba, la Reina Victoria preguntó “¿Quién va primero?”.”El América, mardeIbiza40

Majestad”, le respondieron “¿Y el segundo?”, insistió la reina “Majestad ¡no hay segundo!” .

Eso fue el comienzo de la competición deportiva más antigua de la era moderna. Cuando se celebraron los primeros Juegos Olímpicos (Atenas 1896) ya se llevaban cumplidas 9 ediciones de la Copa América.

6 años después de la primera regata, John Stevens, propietario de la goleta “América” legó la jarra de las 100 guineas al New York Yacht Club, junto al “Deed of gift” texto que rige la competición actual y que establece que la copa se disputará como “una competición amistosa entre naciones”, como un Trofeo de Desafío a perpetuidad que poseerá el que gane hasta la siguiente edición y donde las embarcaciones de cualquier país podrán retar al defender. Así es como nace la America´s Cup. Durante más de 100 años barcos de distintos

La Copa pertenece al “Defender”, en castellano “defensor”, él y solo él dictamina donde, cuando y con que tipo de barco se va a llevar a cabo la competición. En el lado opuesto se encuentran los “Challengers” o desafiantes. los Desafiantes tendrán que competir entre si. A esa regata se le denomina la “Louis Vuitton Cup”.

Para que acabe habiendo un solo “Challenger”, se emplea un sistema de eliminación, el que ha conseguido derrotar al resto de barcos, es el que tendrá el derecho de enfrentarse a el “Defensor” y en caso de que consiga derrotarle tendrá el honor de poseer la Copa de las 100 guineas en las vitrinas de su Club, hasta que ponga fecha a la nueva competición, “que suele ser cada cuatro años”.

El formato de competición es algo complejo de entender. La “Louis Vuitton Cup se regatea en formato de “Match race” o barco contra barco, la competición se divide en “Round robins”, en castellano se puede traducir como “series”, en cada serie todos los “challengers” deben enfrentarse entre si. Una victoria son dos puntos, una derrota cero puntos. Una vez finalizadas dos series, todos los barcos se habrán

enfrentado entre si dos veces y tendran una puntuación determinada, los cuatro primeros clasificados son los que pasan a semifinales, el que mayor puntuación tiene, es el que elige a su contrincante y por el otro lado se enfrentan los otros dos barcos.

La semifinal es al mejor de 9 regatas, con lo que el primero que consigue derrotar 5 veces a su contrincante pasa a la final de la “Louis Vuitton Cup”.

La final tiene el mismo sistema, el primero en alcanzar 5 victorias se convierte en el ganador. Lo logico es pensar que si un barco consigue ganar la regata de challengers, a logrado algo importante, pero la realidad es un poco mas cruda, como le dijeron a la Reina Victoria “Majestad ¡no hay segundo!”, y la verdad es que no hay segundo, ¡solo vale ganar la jarra de las 100 guineas! En todos los deportes, incluyendo la vela la gente se acuerda de quien fue segundo o tercero o incluso quinto, pero en la America´s Cup no, ¡solo vale ganar! ¿POR QUE VALENCIA?

Dicho sitio fue elegido, porque el actual poseedor de la Copa America “Alinghi”, pertenece al club nautico Société Nautique de Genève, dicho club se encuentra en Ginebra “Suiza” y puesto que la Copa America no se puede disputar en un pais sin mar “según las reglas de la propia Copa America”, se eligió Valencia como sede por sus excelentes condiciones meteorologicas y su gran infraestructura.

MATCH RACE

Como hemos explicado anteriormente, el “match race” es una regata de barco contra barco, a diferencia de la mayoría de regatas que son de flota, donde muchos barcos toman la salida a la vez, este formato de regata es especial pues no es suficiente con ser un barco rápido, hay que conocer muy bien el reglamento de regatas, hay que tener cierta agresividad a la hora de navegar, hay que dominar las presalidas, hay que dominar la meteorología, hay que dominar muchos aspectos de la vela y el tiempo de reacción es mínimo.

Un ejemplo de match race: vamos a llamar a los barcos “A” y “B”, el primero sale por la izquierda del campo, el segundo por la derecha. Una vez han pitado la señal de preparación, los dos barcos entran por la línea de salida en dirección inversa al de salida normal, los dos barcos van a rumbo de colisión hasta que A tiene que orzar para evitar a B pues no tiene derecho de paso, B responde orzando, los dos barcos quedan proa al viento y completamente parados, ¡quedan 3 minutos para la salida! A debe tener cuidado de no caer sobre B, a su vez B debe tener cuidado pues si cae sobre A tendria derecho de paso pero a su vez debe dar espacio para que A pueda virar, A cae a babor, B también y le empieza perseguir por detrás intentando mantener su proa por debajo de su popa, A orza y vira, B hace lo mismo, ahora B tiene el control y debe decidir por que lado de la línea desea salir, B ha elegido salir por la izquierda, B empuja a A a la derecha pero A quiere también la izquierda, ¡queda 1 minuto!, A intenta trasluchar, B no se lo permite, A orza bruscamente, B hace lo mismo, A vira para tener derecho de paso, B responde virando, el juego a cambiado, los dos barcos navegan en la misma amura con lo que B sigue teniendo el derecho de paso, B orza, A también pero mas bruscamente intentando tocar su popa con la de B, no lo consigue y se queda parado, B arranca y pitan salida, A aun tiene que arrancar y además sale por el lado teóricamente malo, B tiene media regata ganada. Así es como funciona una presalida de match race, hay que conocer el reglamento al dedillo y antecederte a las maniobras de tus oponentes.

¿Qué ocurre si infringes una regla? La primera vez que infringes una regla debes penalizarte con una vuelta de 360 grados y en caso de hacerlo en popas con el spinnaker arriba, deberás bajarlo por debajo de la botavara y luego penalizarte, esa primera penalización puedes cumplirla cuando desees, en la segunda infracción debes penalizarte inmediatamente y si antes de penalizarte infringes una tercera vez las reglas, te sacan bandera negra y estas descalificado. En la primera penalización el barco infractor busca penalizar a su contrincante pues cuando tienen las mismas penalizaciones se anulan todas y vuelta a empezar.

En resumen, para ser un challenger hay que gastar muchísimo dinero para conseguir lo ultimo en tecnología y una tripulación profesionalizada, después hay que pasar por un sistema de eliminación y conseguir sobrevivir después de todo ello aun hay derrotar al defender para conseguir la jarra de las 100 guineas, ¡muy complicado, realmente, muy complicado!

America's Cup

A little bit of history In 1851, the British government staged ‘The Great Exhibition’ to display its economical and industrial prowess to the world.

As part of this exhibition, a regatta was held to bear witness to Britain’s rule of the waves. A

sterling silver cup worth 100 guineas was to be awarded as the one and only first prize. A schooner from the New World christened ‘America’, from the fledgling New York Yacht Club, crossed the Atlantic to challenge the invincible Armada.

The race began with fifteen of the British Crown’s fastest yachts setting sail. Despite a slow start, ‘America’ outsailed its cross-Atlantic rivals to secure a resounding victory. Queen Victoria, watching at the finishing line, asked, “Who’s first?”. “America, Your Majesty”, was the response. “And who’s second?”, insisted the queen. “Ah, Your Majesty, there is no second!” is the now famous reply. Thus, the oldest sports competition of modern times was heralded.

When the first modern-day Olympic Games (Athens 1896) were held, the America’s Cup had already been challenged nine times.

Six years after the first race, John Stevens, commodore of the ‘America’ schooner, donated the cup via a deed of gift to the New York Yacht Club.

This text specified that the cup be held in trust as a perpetual challenge trophy to promote friendly competition between nations. And so the America’s Cup was born.

For over a century, yachts from different countries crossed the Atlantic in the attempt to regain the cup from the Americans. Not until 1983 did this happen, when ‘Australia II’ won the Challengers’ Cup, by then known as the Louis Vuitton Cup. Defender ‘Liberty’, skippered by Dennis Conner, was leading 3-1 until, against all odds, the Australian yacht recovered to win by 4-3, and so ended the 132-year American winning streak, and the original 100-guinea cup landed in the Antipodes. Shortly after the histo-

ric victory, then US President Ronald Reagan said, “Up to now we thought the Aussies lived down under, now we should think they are the ones who live up above”. Back then in 1983, the most-hated person in the US was skipper Dennis Conner. Legend has it that “he who loses the cup must replace it with his head”, but luckily for him this wasn’t true and four years later he regained the cup as a challenger in Australia.

HOW EXACTLY DOES THE AMERICA’S CUP WORK?

The cup is in the hands of the Defender, and only the defender can decide when and where the next cup shall be held and with which type of boat. Then there are the Challengers. They compete against each other in the Louis Vuitton Cup in a selection series, and the eventual winner gets to sail against the defender and stands the chance of proudly displaying the 100-guinea cup in their trophy cabinet until the next competition is called - usually four years later. The competition format is somewhat difficult to understand. The Louis Vuitton Cup consists of head-to-head match races and the series is divided into round robins, in which each challenger must compete against the others. A victory gains two points and a defeat zero. Once both series are completed, all yachts will have raced against each other twice and the four top-scorers pass to the semifinals. The highest-ranked team chooses its opponent and the other two boats compete against each other. The semi is the best of nine races, so the first yacht to beat its opponent five times goes through to the final of the Louis

Vuitton Cup. The final has the same system the first yacht to notch up five victories is declared the winner. You would think that if a yacht manages to win a challengers regatta, that would be some mean feat, but the reality is a little harsher. Echoing the famous words uttered to Queen Victoria, “Your Majesty, there is no second!”. Only winning the 100-guinea cup matters. In all sports, including sailing, people remember the runner-up or who was in third or even fourth place. Not in the America’s Cup, though, only winning is important!

WHY VALENCIA?

As is common knowledge, the America’s Cup was held in Valencia in 2007. The city was chosen because the defender ‘Alinghi’ belongs to the Société Nautique de Genève and as Switzerland is landlocked, a coastal location was required. Valencia was the prefect choice for its unbeatable meteorological conditions and excellent infrastructure.

MATCH RACE

As we explained above, the match race is a

head-to-head yacht race, unlike the majority of races where yachts compete in a fleet. This race format is special because speed is not the sole requirement. You have to know the race rules very well, you have to sail somewhat aggressively, execution of the pre-start is crucial, the weather plays a key role, you need to have an excellent command of sailing and reaction time is minimum. An example of a match race: Let’s say yachts A and B are competing. A is on starboard tack and B on port. The five-minute gun goes and both boats will enter their respective ends of the start box. Both are on course for collision but A must luff to avoid B and B responds by luffing too. Now, only three minutes from the start, both boats are head to wind and stationary. A must not hunt B too aggressively and neither must B, or else it would have right of way but is burdened to keep clear for A to tack.

A drifts downwind, B also and begins to chase A. A luffs and tacks, as does B. B now takes control and decides on which side of the line to set off. B chooses to set off on starboard tack, B forces A to the right but A also wants starboard.

One minute to go! A tries to gybe, B doesn’t

allow this, A luffs sharply, B does too, A tacks to achieve right of way, B responds by tacking. Now the tide has turned. Both boats are sailing at the same tack so B still has right of way. B luffs, A too, but more sharply attempting to touch sterns with B, but doesn’t manage to and comes to a stop. B sets off and the whistle goes, A must set off too but from the worse side in theory. B has half the race won. This is how a match race pre-start works. You must know the rules off by heart and anticipate your opponent’s manoeuvres. What happens if a rule is broken? The first time you break a rule, a single buoy must be rounded. If done to starboard with the spinnaker hoisted, you must lower it to below the boom and then round the buoy.

The first penalty can be taken whenever you like, but the second one is immediate. If before taking this penalty, you flout the rules a third time, the black flag is hoisted and you are disqualified.

In the first penalty, the penalised boat tries to make its opponent break the rules too, because having the same penalties cancels out all of them and it’s back to square one.

BUENA ACOGIDA A La mejor FERIA N`UTICA > Un tercio más de visitantes para la edición número XVII de esta cita anual con la náutica

La Feria Náutica de este año celebrada en Santa Eulalia ha estado mejor montada que nunca, en opinión de la mayoría de visitantes y expositores. La acogida de público de esta edición número XVII ha sido mejor que el año pasado. La fecha en esta ocasión fueron los días 1, 2 y 3 de mayo justo encima de las fiestas de la Villa del Río. El evento ya está consolidado dentro del programa de fiestas de Santa Eulalia (1er. Domingo de Mayo).

La Feria ha sido organizada por la Asociación de Náutica de Ibiza y Formentera integrada por PIMEEF y ha contado con la colaboración de la Conselleria de Comerç del Govern de les Illes Balears, el Ajuntament de Santa Eulària des Riu, el Puerto Deportivo de Santa Eulalia, la Cambra de Comerç de Eivissa i Fomentera y Fires i Congresos.

En esta edición hubo un total de catorce expositores, siendo la práctica totalidad empresas de las marcas de embarcaciones más representativas de la isla de Ibiza y Formentera.

Desde la Asociación se calcula que unas 6.500 mil personas visitaron la feria durante los tres días en que ésta permaneció abierta.

Un tercio más que al año anterior.

además del traslado gratuito en el Minitren (colaboración Ayuntamiento), también podían trasladarse a la feria en barco, gracias a la colaboración de Cruceros Santa Eulalia, con salida desde las golondrinas (paseo marítimo) al espigón puerto (ubicación feria).

El último día se sortearon, entre todos los asistentes a la feria, distintos cursos para actividades varias, bonos descuento para distintos comercios y material náutico y deportivo, gracias a las empresas asociadas a la Estación Náutica Sta. Eulalia.

Visitors flock to best-ever boat show > Numbers up a third at this year’s 17th annual nautical event This year’s Santa Eulalia Boat Show has been the biggest and best ever, according to

the vast majority of visitors and exhibitors.

What’s more, the 17th annual show welcomed more visitors than last year. The event was held between 1st and 3rd May this year and is now an undoubted highlight of the Santa Eulalia local fiestas. The Show was organised by the Ibiza and Formentera Nautical Association in collaboration with the Balearic Islands Ministry of Commerce, the Santa Eulària des Riu town council, the Ibiza and Formentera Chamber of Commerce and the Fires de Balears business centre.

This year saw a total of fourteen exhibitors, practically all made up by the most prestigious nautical companies of Ibiza and Formentera.

The Association calculates that some 6,500 people flocked to the Show this year, up a third from last year.

Besides the free Mini-Train service provided by the town council to the Show, visitors could also arrive by boat, thanks to Cruceros Santa

Eulalia, sailing from the Paseo Marítimo and arriving at the port jetty (location of Show).

On the closing day, all the visitors took part in a draw for various sailing courses and discount vouchers for nautical and sports equipment, donated by the companies associated to the Estación Náutica Santa Eulalia.

Las Dalias: Leyenda viva de Ibiza El día de San Carlos, 4 de Noviembre de 1954, el agricultor y carpintero, Joan Mari, abrió un local que se convertiría en leyenda en Ibiza... a la fiesta de apertura de su bar de carretera con salón de baile en la trastienda, vinieron todos los payeses de la zona y se facturó 6,600 pesetas... a peseta la copa y a dos las de marca, fue un enorme evento de gran impacto social...

Durante los 50, Las Dalias fue por excelencia, la sala de baile de la población local para bodas, bautizos, comuniones y fiestas de guardar... tanto fue el éxito que el cura de San Carlos comenzó a proyectar cine en las noches de fiesta para intentar arrastrar a sus feligreses de vuelta a la parroquia y distanciarlos del alcohol, el baile y los pecados de la carne que tanto divertían a su rebaño descarriado.

Las Dalias conformaba, en principio, solamente un bar de carretera y una sala de baile. Al final de los 60, con el comienzo de turismo en la isla, se añadió un restaurante-celler, en el sótano y se configuró un jardín donde se celebraban barbacoas y actuaciones. Muchos mardeIbiza46

artistas internacionales empezaron a aparecer entre el público de los conciertos de Las Dalias como Brian May (Queen), Ron Wood (Rolling Stones), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelín), Mike Oldfield, Bob Geldof, etc.

Con los años, se ha ido ampliando las zonas exteriores para acomodar el crecimiento del mercadillo. Hoy en día, las partes que componen el complejo de Las Dalias, son las siguientes: El Bar - El original bar de carretera que sirve tapas, menús del día y bebidas, además de ofrecer una exposición permanente a modo de museo, de fotografías de artistas consagrados actuando en Las Dalias. El horario es de 7:00 a 00:00 y hasta las 2AM en verano.

La Sala - Sala de conciertos/discoteca con aforo para unos 450 pax, con un gran escenario, camerinos, iluminación profesional para conciertos, P.A. y equipo para DJs. El Jardín - Un espacio de especial encanto con vegetación, escenario volante, una barra y zona para restaurante exterior. Aforo de unas 700 pax.

Restaurante - Un "celler" con techos de

savina al estilo rústico Ibicenco y numerosos artilugios históricos decorando las paredes.

Encantador y con sentada máxima de unos 125 comensales.

Sky Lounge - Terraza "VIP" con barra en zona exterior con vistas al jardín. Cuenta también con una sección en interior que cuenta con visibilidad perfecta del escenario.

La Explanada - Zona trasera contigua a la entrada en que se encuentran el "Soul Bar", la Jaima, la Barraca y un espacio abierto en el que se han celebrado ocasionalmente conciertos de formato grande. Hay un espacio abierto con capacidad para unas 1200 personas.

El Soul Bar - Pintoresco kiosco multicolor abierto solamente los Sábados y lunes para los mercadillos de verano (Mayo a Octubre).

La Jaima - Auténtica Jaima Marroquí en la que está nuestra tetería con oferta de Tés de diversa clase y pastelitos de cocina Árabe Barra de Zumos - Barra que sirve solamente zumos naturales y cócteles.

Las Dalias: living Ibizan legend Way back on 4th November 1954, the farmer-come-carpenter Joan Mari opened the doors of a venue that would soon turn into an Ibizan legend. The opening night of his roadside bar with backroom dancehall attracted all the locals from the area. The tills raked in a grand total of 6,000 pesetas, drinks cost one peseta each or two pesetas for brandname spirits. A momentous event that was to have a massive social impact.

Throughout the 1950s, Las Dalias was dancehall par excellence for local weddings, christenings, first communions and religious holidays...such was the overwhelming success that the local priest even began to project films in the parish house to try to drag his wayward flock back from the excesses of alcohol, partying and ‘sins of the flesh’.

At the end of the 1960s, coinciding with the tourism boom on the island, a restaurant-cellar was added to the original bar and the gardens were opened up to stage barbeques and concerts.

International stars were soon to be spotted in the audience of the Las Dalias concerts: Brian May (Queen), Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Mike Oldfield, Bob Geldof, to name just a few. With the years, the outdoor areas have been extended to house the ever-growing hippy market.

Today, the Las Dalias complex features: Bar - The original roadside bar serving tapas, lunches and drinks, with a permanent photo exhibition of acclaimed artists performing at Las Dalias.

Open from 7am to midnight and until 2am in summer.

Dancehall - Concert venue/club with a capacity for more or less 450 people, with an ample stage, dressing rooms, professional concert lighting, PA system and decks for DJs. Garden - A charming space with lush vegetation, mobile stage, bar and restaurant. Capacity for 700 people.

Restaurant - A “cellar” with Ibizan-style juniper ceilings and historical artefacts lining the walls. Enchanting restaurant with seating for some 125 guests.

Sky Lounge - VIP rooftop terrace and bar with views of the garden. Also with indoor area overlooking the stage.

Park - Back area housing the Soul Bar, the Haima, the Cabin and a space where large-scale concerts are sometimes held. Capacity for around 1,200 people in total.

Soul Bar - Curious multi-coloured pavilion only open on Saturdays and Mondays for the summer hippy markets (May to October). On Saturday afternoons it turns into the meeting point for the market-goers.

Haima - Authentic Moroccan haima tent serving a wide range of teas and traditional Arabic pastries.

Juice Bar - Bar serving only fresh juices and non-alcoholic cocktails.

> Sesenta nadadores son los que actualmente forman las filas del CNNSE No son pequeños los pasos que nuestro club está dando en este deporte. Si hace bien poco sólo contábamos con dos nadadoras que acudían a los campeonatos de España, en estas últimas temporadas han competido seis de nuestros chicos; incluso uno de ellos medallista en los campeonatos de España de la Juventud (Mérida, 2008) donde se convirtió en el primer nadador masculino del club en conseguir una medalla (Campeón de España en 1500 metros libres y segundo en 400 metros libres). Hablamos, como no, de Melchor García.

éstos corresponde a categoría iniciación, benjamín y alevín lo que indicia que club tiene una buena salud y promete un futuro esperanzador en cuanto a la continuidad de nadadores en categorías mayores.

Una nueva sección ha empezado en la piscina de Santa Gertrudis con los inconvenientes de cualquier inició de sección se esta empezando con la ilusión que la Piscina de Santa Gertrudis se convierta en una nueva fuente de cantera para el CNNSE. Son cuatro los nadadores que forman parte del centro de tecnificación de natación: Melchor García, Alejandro Grande en categoría

masculina y Laura Abellán y Anabel Torres en categoría femenina todos ellos a excepción de Anabel que se está recuperando de una operación de menisco tienen mínimas para acudir a sus respectivos campeonatos de España.

Estos nadadores por el hecho de estar en el centro se benefician de los siguientes servicios gratuitos: Servicio de Medicina: un médico a su disposición para resolver en la mayor brevedad posible las posibles enfermedades y lesiones.

Servicio de Fisioterapia: dos fisioterapeutas a su disposición para descargas y recuperación de lesiones.

Servicio de Psicología: para solventar cualquier problema relacionado con la psicología deportiva.

Test fisiológicos (lactato) para evaluar el rendimiento deportivo en diferentes puntos de la temporada. Entrenamientos personalizados los sábados por la tarde en unas condiciones optimas de espacio.

Dos concentraciones por temporada (Semana Santa y verano) en piscina de 50 metros para adaptarse a los campeonatos nacionales donde se diputan en una piscina de estas características. Salidas competitivas fuera de la isla, cuatro o cinco por temporada, para que estos nadadores compitan con gente de primer nivel y puedan prepararse los nacionales en las mejores condiciones posibles.

Javier es el

encargado de coordinar y supervisar todos los grupos en entrenamiento de la sección.

Segundo entrenador: Oscar Podadera, Monitor de Natación, el esta al cargo de los grupos más jóvenes de la sección de santa Eulalia (iniciación y alevín A) y ejerce de entrenador ayudante en el resto de las categorías.

Rocío antigua nadadora del CNSE esta ejerciendo la difícil labor de empezar la sección de natación en santa Gertrudis, ella se hará cargo de los chicos hasta la categoría alevín donde los nadadores deberán pasar a la sección de natación de Santa Eulalia.

Making a splash > Sixty swimmers now make up the ranks of the CNNSE Our Club is certainly making a splash in the swimming world. Not so long ago only two of our swimmers were regulars at the Spanish Championships. In recent seasons, six of our members have competed and one even walked away with two medals from the 2008 Spanish Junior Swimming Championship held in Mérida. We're talking of course about Melchor García, the Club's first male swimmer to climb the podium, being proclaimed Spanish Champion in 1500 metres freestyle and Runner-up in 400 metres freestyle.

Sixty swimmers now make up the ranks of the CNNSE, most belonging to the beginners, mardeIbiza50

novice and junior categories, a sure sign of the Club's healthy current standing and even more promising future, as these swimmers pass to the more senior categories.

New training sessions started, admittedly with a couple of the teething problems common at the start of a season, at the Santa Gertrudis swimming pool, which is hoped to become a new source of talented swimmers for the CNNSE. Four swimmers form part of the Swimming: Melchor García and Alejandro Grande in the male category, and Laura Abellán and Anabel

Torres in the female category. All of them except Anabel, who's recovering from a cartilage operation, must reach national minimums to compete in their respective Spanish championships.

Part and parcel of membership of the centre are the following free-of-charge services: Health Service: a doctor on call to treat any possible injuries or illnesses.

Physiotherapy Service: two physiotherapists available to treat strains and speed up recovery from injuries.

Competitions outside Ibiza - four or five per season - so these swimmers can compete with top-level peers and prepare for the national championships in the best conditions possible.

COACHING TEAM

Head Coach: Javier Bonet Salvá, Graduate in Sports Sciences, Senior Coach in swimming, cycling, triathlon and athletics. Finalising a Master in Sports Performance from the Autonomous University of Madrid in association with the Spanish Olympic Committee. Javier has also amassed a wealth of practical experience from his eight-year scholarship as a triathlete at the Madrid Sports Performance Centre (Blume). Over twenty times an international with the Spanish triathlon team, Javier transmits his experience to our up-and-coming swimmers. He is in charge of coordinating and supervising all the Club's training groups.

Deputy Coach: Oscar Podadera, swimming instructor in charge of the youngest Santa Eulalia groups (beginners and pre-junior A) and deputy coach for the remaining categories. Oscar has taken part in the Spanish Swimming Championships on many occasions.

Lo mÆs duro es levantarme pronto para ir a entrenar > “En el Club empecé a nadar con 8 años” ¿Cuándo y cómo empezaste a nadar en el CNSE? “En el Club empecé a nadar con 8 años, empecé porque los monitores de la municipal me dijeron que ellos ya no podían enseñarme nada más y entonces es cuando decidí irme al Club para meterme más a fondo en el mundo de la natación”. ¿Cuáles han sido tus resultados más destacados?

“Pues mis mejores resultados fueron el primer y mardeIbiza52

el segundo puesto en el campeonato de España en los 1500 libres y en los 400 libres”. ¿Cuántos días y horas de entrenamiento dedicas a la semana?

“Entreno de lunes a sábados y cuando hay campeonatos, un mes antes, también entrenamos los domingos, entre 2 y 3 horas”.

Explica brevemente la evolución deportiva en natación en cuanto a resultados.

“Pues ha mejorado, creo, que ahora va más gente a los campeonatos de España, se entre-

na más a fondo. Va entrando más gente a probar este deporte y a interesarse por él”. ¿Cómo compaginas estudios y entrenamientos?

“Los compagino aprovechando cada momento que puedo y con mucho esfuerzo”.

Objetivos para la temporada 2009 “Repetir los resultados que conseguí en los campeonatos de España de Mérida en 2008”. ¿Como es un día tuyo desde que te levantas hasta que te acuestas?

“Me levanto a las 7, desayuno, me preparo, voy al instituto desde las 8 hasta las 2, llego a mi casa, como, hago los deberes, a las 6 voy a natación y hasta las 20:30 no llego, después estudio, ceno y sobre las 22:00 me voy a dormir”. ¿Qué apoyo recibes para realizar tu deporte?

“Mis padres en su tiempo libre se encargan de llevarme a todos los sitios, cuando me tienen que comprar material de natación me lo compran. También los padres de los nadadores del club recaudan fondos económicos venciendo pasteles para ayudarnos y el Club paga los viajes cuando vamos a los nacionales. Y mi entrenador también me apoya mucho”. ¿Qué haces cuando no entrenas?

“Lo que hace cualquier niño de mi edad, salir con los amigos, jugar…” ¿Qué es lo que te parece más duro de la natación?

“El tener que levantarme pronto para ir a entrenar”. ¿Y lo más divertido?

“Los viajes y cuando has ganado algo”.

Explica el entrenamiento más duro que hayas hecho.

“El día 31 de diciembre tuve que hacer 100 de 100 que en total son 10.000 en una mañana y fue muy duro”.

“Getting up early to train is the hardest thing” > “I started swimming at the Club when I was eight” When and why did you start swimming at the CNSE?

“I started swimming at the Club when I was eight because the monitors at the local pool said they couldn’t teach me any more strokes.

So, I came to the Club to really get into the world of swimming”.

What have your best results been?

“First and second place in 1500 freestyle and 400 freestyle in the Spanish championships”.

How many hours and days do you train a week?

“I train from Mondays to Saturdays between 2 and 3 hours and when there’s a championship a month away also on Sundays”.

Tell us a bit about how swimming has evolved in Spain.

“It’s got better, I’d say. Now more people go to the championships in Spain and people train harder. More and more people are giving the sport a try and taking it up”.

How do you combine your studies with training?

“By taking advantage of every bit of time I have and putting in a lot of effort”.

Your goals for the 2009 season?

“Repeat the results I achieved in the 2008

Spanish championships in Mérida”.

What’s your typical daily routine?

“I get up at 7, have breakfast, get ready, then I start school at 8 and come home for lunch at 2. I do my homework and at six I go to the

pool until about 8.30pm. Then, back at home, I study a bit, have dinner and go to bed around ten o’clock”.

What support are you given?

“In their free time, my parents take me everywhere, and they buy me swimming material when necessary. Also, the parents of the swimmers at the Club raise money by selling cakes and the Club pays our trips when we go to the nationals. And my coach supports me a lot”.

What do you do when you’re not training?

“What any boy of my age does, hanging out with friends, playing games...”.

What’s the hardest thing for you about swimming?

“Having to get up early to go training”.

And the most enjoyable thing?

“Travelling and when you win something”.

Tell us about the toughest training session you’ve ever done.

“On 31st December I had to do 100 by 100, which is 10,000 metres in one morning. That was really tough!”.

Patrimonio de la humanidad Ibiza es la capital de la isla. Se encuentra ubicada en la zona Este. Su actividad económica es de servicios, con la industria turística y el pequeño comercio, como ejes fundamentales. Acoge la sede del Consell Insular.

Su puerto, ubicado en una bahía natural, es el principal acceso por mar a la ciudad y a su vez es el acceso principal, junto al aeropuerto, para toda la isla.

Aiboshim, la ciudad de Bes, fue fundada por los fenicios, el año 654 antes JC. Se calcula que en el siglo V antes JC la ciudad tenía entre 4000 y 5000 habitantes. Vespasiano la convirtió en municipio romano (Municipius Flavius Ebusus) el año 70. Comenzó entonces un periodo de decadencia que se mantuvo, casi, toda la fase imperial romana hasta la llegada de los Vándalos, el año 424, y su posterior ocupación por los bizantinos y árabes.

La ciudad fue conquistada el 8 de agosto de 1235 por el arzobispo de Tarragona Guillem de Montgri, el infante Pere de Portugal y el noble Nuno Sanç bajo el encargo del Rey Jaime I el Conquistador.

La parte antigua de la ciudad es conocida como Dalt Vila. Fue fortificada por Felipe II. Es uno de los recintos abaluartados mejor conservados, junto con el de Cartagena de Indias y forma parte del Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde 1999.

Its port, which is in a natural bay, is the main access to the city by sea and, in turn, the city is the main access to the whole island, together with the airport.

Aiboshim, the city of Bes, was founded by the Phoenicians in 654 B.C. It is estimated that in the 5th century B.C. the city had between 4,000 and 5,000 inhabitants.

Vespasian made it a Roman city (Municipius Flavius Ebusus) in 70 A.D. Then came a period

of decadence that continued almost to the end of the Roman Empire until the arrival of the Vandals in 424 A.D. and later its occupation by the Byzantines and Arabs.The city was reconquered on 8th August, 1235 by the Archbishop of Tarragona, Guillem de Montgri, the Infante Pere of Portugal and the noble Nuno Sanç on the orders of King Jaime I the Conqueror.

The old section of the city, which is known as Dalt Vila, was fortified by King Felipe II. Together with Cartagena de Indias, it is one of the best preserved fortified bastions and has been a Heritage of Humanity since 1999.

En la entrada del pueblo de Santa Eulària se eleva el Puig de Missa, que corona la cima de la colina con una iglesia fortificada y una torre de defensa.

Dentro de la población destaca el lecho del único río de les Illes Balears, aunque permanece prácticamente seco, sus áreas húmedas realizan un fantástico paisaje.

Beaches and Nature Routes The municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu offers a great variety of enchanting beaches, villages and countryside, as well as markets that are visited each year by thousands of tourists. We should not forget that the municipality is made up of five parishes in which modernity is balanced with tradition.

In the village of Santa Eulària, there is the largest sports port on Ibiza, a water sports resort offering a wide variety of water sports and complementary activities and the Ibiza Conference Centre.

At the entrance to the village is the Puig de Missa, where on top of a hill is a fortified church and a defence tower. In the village is the bed of the only river on the Balearic Islands, which, although it is almost dry, has wet areas that create a fantastic landscape.

Las Dalias, on the Sant Carlos road, is famous for the street market that is held every Saturday.

The Punta Arabí street market in Es Canar is held every Wednesday. It is the oldest market.

NATURE ROUTES

Pou des Lleó: It seems to have received its name from the Roman legion that camped here, the Leo or lion legion.

Nearby is the Campanixt tower, which is very well preserved. From here, you can see a lovely panorama of the beautiful countryside of the parish of Sant Carles.

The interior of Sant Carles is an area that has distanced itself from encroaching tourism and when going along the country roads.

Una Estación Náutica es una asociación de empresas, cuyo objetivo es la gestión, planificación, promoción y comercialización del producto náutico, con el objetivo de conseguir una experiencia turística satisfactoria. La Asociación Española de Estaciones Náuticas aglutina a 26 destinos españoles y cuenta con el apoyo público por parte ministerial a través de TURESPAÑA y de las Comunidades Autónomas.

La Estación Náutica de Santa Eulalia es una asociación sin ánimo de lucro, que pretende a potenciar actividades alternativas a la ya tradicional oferta de nuestra isla; crear para nuestro municipio una marca propia de identidad como destino náutico.

cionado con la oferta de ocio nocturno, aportar nuevos aspectos a la oferta ya existente y lo que es más necesario, trabajar para dar a conocer esta diferenciación.

De la mano de nuestra Estación Náutica el visitante de Santa Eulalia puede vivir unos días muy especiales practicando sus deportes preferidos. A water sports resort (in Spanish, estación náutica) is an association of companies whose aim is to manage, plan, promote and market their nautical product, in order to provide a satisfactory experience for tourists. The Spanish Association of Water Sports Resorts groups together 26 destinations in Spain with a long tradition of nautical and family tourism.

It is also an association that can count on public support from the ministries through TURESPAÑA and from the autonomous.
