Protecting Your Eyes and Skin from UV Rays
Welcome to UV Safety Month! With summer in full swing, it's crucial to remember the importance of safeguarding our eyes and skin from the harmful effects of UV (Ultraviolet) rays. Let's dive in and explore some key tips for protection.
UV radiation from the sun can have adverse effects on our eyes and skin. Prolonged exposure can lead to conditions such as photokeratitis (eye sunburn), cataracts, and macular degeneration. Additionally, unprotected skin is vulnerable to sunburn and increases the risk of skin cancer.
Here are some simple measures to protect yourself:
1. Cover up: Wear lightweight, long-sleeved clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses with UV protection.
2. Apply sunscreen: Use broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on exposed skin. Reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
3. Seek shade: Limit direct exposure to the sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and utilize shadeproviding structures or accessories.
4. Choose UV-blocking sunglasses: Opt for sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays to safeguard your eyes.
