new handicapaccessible entrance to the Welcome Inn Senior Center in Larned was installed in the summer of 2021, eliminating a step up to enter the building. They’ve also added a hand-sanitizing station and a temperature check machine at the entrance. Marilyn Bell at the Welcome Inn said part of 2020 and 2021 forced the senior center to only offer carry-out meals, so everyone was happy when most of the in-person activities resumed. The building also has a new roof, new carpeting and some new artwork, and two new cooks joined the staff in 2021. Sonia Carson is the head cook and Sara Wood is her assistant. The Welcome Inn Leisure Center in Larned and the Burdett Senior Center both serve as community centers where Pawnee County’s older residents can come together for coffees, meetings and other activities for senior citizens. The building can also be rented. Friendship Meals Director Marilyn Bell said lunch is served Monday through Friday at noon, followed by cards and dominoes. Lunch is $3.50 for those 60 years or older and $5.75 for those younger than 60. Take-out meals and frozen meals are available. Homedelivered meals are also available Monday through Friday for eligible persons.
