124 years of leading the way in everything milling To us, keeping up-to-date and ahead of the game in all aspects of milling comes naturally after 124 years of leading the way in everything milling. With an illustrious history such as ours, it has been the task of myself, and CEO’s that have gone before me, to maintain our position as the global magazine of choice for our industry - Roger Gilbert.
Changing to meet the challenges of the future
“We will need to feed 9 billion people by 2050”
Roger Gilbert is the driving force behind the rebranding of GFMT as ‘Milling and Grain’ magazine. As founder and former Secretary-General of the International Feed Industry Federation, he has dedicated his working life to milling processes that provide safe and affordable food for all. Travelling the globe for over 30 years, his efforts have been instrumental in bringing our industry together whilst simultaneously opening doors for investment across borders.
- Roger Gilbert speaking at the United Nations, Rome, Italy, 1998
Stepping down from his IFIF role in 2010 has allowed Roger to put his efforts into focussing upon the magazine. During these years, Roger has orchestrated the building of global offices, digital circulation and foreign language editions culminating in his drive to rebrand the magazine to ‘Milling and Grain’ in 2015.
“Occasionally, the publisher has to step back and take stock. “Connected to all aspects of milling, from flour, to rice, to feed and grain storage and handling and as honoured patrons of the Mills Archive Trust in the UK, it is with determination that we go forward, whilst remaining soundly connected to our heritage. Hence our timely decision to rebrand ourselves as ‘Milling and Grain’ that reflects our original name that stood for almost 100 years and shows our commitment to the important area of grain storage and handling. “Furthermore, going forward into 2015 with the same continuity and conviction, we will be increasing our circulation to 12 editions – making us an international publication that reaches its readers on a monthly basis.” Rebranding is not new in a changing industry. Since 1891, Milling, through the passage of time has been known to our readers as ‘The journal of Flour and Animal Feed Milling’, then ‘Grain and Feed Milling Technology’ - and as from January 2015 – ‘Milling and Grain’. It has led the way, covering stories and issues that matter in the food and feed milling industries, as well as the grain industry, across three centuries.
