GORI REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP GEORGIA - INFORMATION BOOKLET
WELCOME LETTER Dear participants, It’s our honour to invite you to the Gori Regional Selection Conference of European Youth Parliament Georgia. The session will gather round eighty participants from Tbilisi and Gori to discuss current European affairs under the theme of “Upholding European Standards”. The organising team is putting all the effort in making the session as interesting and memorable as possible. We do our best so that Gori Regional Selection Conference is imprinted on your minds and hearts for a long time. We promise the Session will stand out with its uniqueness and high academic quality. Make sure that you won’t miss the opportunity to participate in one of the most promising events of EYP Georgia. Even if we do everything for the session to be perfect, it won’t exist without officials and delegates. Being interested in the GRSC means a lot to us and all we do is for creating the atmosphere where participants will freely discuss current issues that are acute in the EU and its partner states. EYP is the place where you can share your knowledge and ideas about controversial problems that we and our country face with the peers. It’s the place where you can form long-lasting friendships. For most of you this session may be the first in EYP and we hope that after Gori Regional Selection Conference you’ll have a great desire to stay in the organisation as long as you can. This is the official Information Booklet of the upcoming Session, where you can find all the detailed information. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Gori Regional Selection Conference. Best Regards, Toma Adamia and Nako Edisherashvili The Head-Organisers of the session

GORI REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP GEORGIA - INFORMATION BOOKLET
PRESIDENTS GREETING Dear Participants, Less then a month left till we meet each other at Gori Regional Selection Conference and start writing another memorable chapter of European Youth Parliament Georgia. As a session president, I would like to warmly welcome you all and wish you a very fruitful pre-session preparation and later, fascinating session days. I do hope you are reading this booklet at least half as excited as I am and look forward to this very promising event. Dear delegates, I know that many of you have never participated in our activities before and you are expecting the experience to be daunting. After having attended eighteen sessions, I define EYP success formula as a compilation of inspiration and perspiration. Most importantly, be open to new ideas, push yourself out of your comfort zone and express yourselves. During the session you will be challenged a lot, engaged in hot debates and delivering constructive speeches. To ensure your performance is successful, I highly encourage you not to underestimate the pre-session academic preparation, read the overview your respective chairpersons prepared for you and research on your topic further. EYP is a place where hard work always gets paid off and if you give something away, it will eventually come back to you. The organisers of the session are doing their best to make things work perfect for you and all they expect in return is to see you enjoy the process. I can not wait to meet each and all of you and if there is anything I can do for you, do not hesitate to contact me. See you in a bit, Mariam Chaduneli Session President

GORI REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP GEORGIA - INFORMATION BOOKLET
GORI REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE Gori Regional Selection Conference is the first out of four upcoming Regional Selection Conferences which EYP Georgia is holding this year. The Session will take place in Gori, from 4th to 6th April. During the first two days of the session, participants will have committee works, where they will have the chance to discuss their topics with the other members of the committee. This is one of the significant parts of the session where the aim of the committees is to find solutions to the problems that their topics include and as a result, create Resolutions. The third day of the GRSC is the day of General Assembly aka GA where all the delegates of the session try to defend, attack and debate after each others’ committees. The official host of the GRSC is Gori State Teaching University which means that all the participants of the session will work there for three days. The upcoming session is even more unique because delegates have a great opportunity to show themselves and be selected for the National Selection Conference. It’s a huge achievement for everyone because every delegate on the NSC has the chance to become member of the Georgian Delegation to the International Sessions of EYP.
SESSION THEME The whole session is based on its Session Theme which is generally, selected by presidents of sessions. The theme of Gori Regional Selection Conference will be “Upholding European Values” which means that the topics which will be discussed during the three days will serve as guidance in discovering European Union. As it is the first regional session in Gori, all the topics will touch the most acute problems which the European Union and its partner states face today. Gori Regional Selection Conference will help the participants of the session to get to know to the values of Europe and the Union better. During the three days, delegates will discuss topics related to human rights, gender equality and home affairs. Experience and knowledge gained at the Gori Regional Selection Conference will help participants not only in the next events of EYP but also in the everyday life

ABOUT GEORGIA Georgia with its favourable geographic location has a unique and ancient cultural heritage. From outrageously beautiful towns of Svaneti and Kazbegi in the Caucasus Mountains to Batumi, a fun-loving semitropical town on the Black Sea coastline, Georgia abounds in natural variety. Tbilisi, the capital and by far the biggest city, has the atmosphere of an age-old Eurasian crossroads, yet it’s also a 21st-century city with European-style nightclubs and eye-catching new architecture. Georgia’s deeply complicated history has given it a fascinating cocktail of influences from Turkey, Russia, Persia, Central Asia and beyond, with a wonderful heritage of architecture and art. But today Georgia looks to Europe for its future and is the most Western in atmosphere of the three Caucasus countries. Perhaps its greatest treasure is the Georgians themselves: warm, proud, high-spirited, cultured, obsessively hospitable and expert at enjoying life. This is a country where guests are considered a blessing. The abundant local wine flows freely, tables are laden with fine food and you’ll never cease to be delighted by the warmth of your welcome. According to the folk legend, when God shared lands among people, where they were supposed to live, Georgians were late because they had banquet. When they appeared in front of Him they were told that no free lands were left. And Georgians replied that they were late while they were drinking for His health and invited Him to banquet. Got spend a great time and decided to give them the land he left for Himself. Indeed Georgia is a divine country!
GORI - THE HOST CITY Gori is one of the ancient cities of Georgia. It is mentioned in history since 7th century because of being located on very important strategic and economic road intersections. Owning this city meant political domination on Shida Kartli that is why it was constantly invaded by foreign occupants. Gori was officially announced as a city in 1801, later in 1950 city has fallen under authority of republic. Origin of the title Gori is coming from the rocky hill, on top of which big castle is built up. There are lots of historic and cultural statues, as well as museums located in the city, which are attracting more and more tourists every year. You can find here Museum of Josef Stalin, who ruled the Soviet Empire from 1925 to 1953, Gori Fortress which is built on a cliffy hill overlooking the central part of the modern city, historic-ethnographic museum of S. Makalatia, magnificent hidden cave town Uplistsikhe, the Great Patriotic War museum and a lot more. Gori is famous as a hometown of Apples, which later became symbol of the city.
