❧ School Year 2021
Letter from Rolinda To my Girl Scout family, Thank you so much for the warm welcome since I joined the council on July 15th. My career has been filled with leading nonprofit organizations focused on the mission of helping others, most recently leading the Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne, Wyoming for the past twelve years. The Girl Scouts’ mission of building girls with courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place is so inspiring to me. My goal is to ensure that our mission is inspiring to Girl Scouts of all ages from Daisies to Alumni and from volunteers to staff. I encourage you to invite others to join Girl Scouts and share the amazing experiences. As our founder, Juliette Gordon Low said, “It [Girl Scouts] is where careers are born. For instance, a girl tries bandaging. She finds she likes Red Cross work and she decides to study seriously and become a Hospital Nurse. Or, she is expert in signaling and the Morse code leads to her becoming-a Telegraph Operator.” I am excited to see how you will grow with Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland through the programs and activities that have been developed in areas of Financial Literacy, STEM, Healthy Living, Environmental Stewardship, and Global Citizenship. Just imagine the possibilities, the world is yours! Rolinda Sample Chief Executive Officer Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland

Virtual is Here to Stay
This past year and a half has been hard. We’ve had to adapt to so many changes, upsets, and things being put on hold. Luckily, Girl Scouts are resilient and we use our resources wisely! COVID couldn’t stop us from meeting virtually, earning badgework, safely engaging with our community, and maintaining the precious sisterhood that is a cornerstone of our movement. One thing has become clear, virtual programming allows everyone in our council access to great opportunities no matter where they are across the heartland. The overwhelmingly positive feedback has convinced us that these programs are here to stay! So, warm up your computers and smart devices, snuggle into a comfy chair, and enjoy the fellowship of virtual programming with us.

Council programming is now available in Outside the Guide!
We are piloting an option for Service Units to book council programming directly, much like working with an Outside the Guide partner. Collaborate with a council staff member to determine the best date, topic, and venue for your community, then we bring all the materials and lead the activities! To schedule, email info@gskh.org.
What do you need? • Be a member of one of the Service Units eligible for the pilot, which includes SU70 through SU86. • Know 18 or more girls interested in participating; age range can be K-12, K-8, or just a specific program level. • Help to secure a venue in your community.
What do we provide? • A 6-hour event with a suggested time frame of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. • Lesson plans facilitated by council staff with the assistance of event chaperones. • Materials for all activities • Badge or fun patch (depending on exact details of event topic).
• You and enough chaperones commit to attend to meet girl-to-adult ratio. • Sack lunches for each girl; SU can choose to provide or ask each girl to bring her own.

Highest Awards
Gold Issues of the world, meet your match! Open only to girls in high school, the Gold Award is the most prestigious award in the world for girls—the most difficult to earn—and it’s only available to Girl Scouts. Once achieved, it shows colleges, employers, and your community that you’re out there making the world a better place. One Girl Scout will lead this project and build a team of supporters around her, including a mentor and advisor. Submissions to the Gold Award Committee are due on the 1st of each month so that we can schedule you for a committee meeting on the 2nd Thursday of the month. You can pursue your Girl Scout Gold Award if: You're in high school, you're registered as a Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador, & you have completed two Senior or Ambassador Journeys OR earned the Girl Scout Silver Award and completed a Journey

The Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards (a.k.a. “Highest Awards”) are the highest honors you can earn in Girl Scouts. All three awards give you the chance to do big things while working on an issue you care about. To earn these awards, you’ll design and implement a Highest Award Take Action project. Once completed, you’ll have made a bold, sustainable impact on the world. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d be honored to pin this prestigious award to your Girl Scout uniform! To learn more, check out the video and printable trainings at Kansasgirlscouts.org or email info@gskh.org.
Silver
Bronze
When Cadettes focus on an issue they care about, learn the facts, and take action to make a difference, they gain the confidence and skills that will catapult them to lifelong success. Teams of 1-3 can work on this project. Projects will receive prior approval from the Silver Award Committee before beginning and will also present their final project. Committee meets virtually 1-3 times a month on Monday or Thursday evenings.
When Juniors team up to make a difference in their community, they learn important leadership skills, discover new passions, and watch how seemingly small actions make a big difference. A solo Girl Scout, a small group, or a whole troop can participate. No prior approval needed to begin, only submit the Final Report once finished.
You can pursue your Girl Scout Silver Award if: You're in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade, you're a registered Girl Scout Cadette, & you have completed a Cadette Journey
You can pursue your Girl Scout Bronze Award if: You're in fourth or fifth grade, you're a registered Girl Scout Junior, & you have completed a Junior Journey
